I've been working in Carrollton, Texas for about six months now and have slowly been trying out places to eat around here. So far, most have been good but not worth writing about until today. Today I ate at Babes Chicken and it was just so good! I went for lunch with some coworkers. We were seated immediately and served quickly. The chicken was so good! Full of flavor and cooked perfectly. They had sides family style at our table. Even the sides are worth writing about! The corn tasted like it came right off the cob. The ambience was awesome! Visiting Dallas so wanted to give some fried chicken southern style a try. We got the fried chicken combo that comes with all these various sides. First time here in January 2026 and I absolutely loved it. I read how they recently got awarded best Chicken Fried Steak in Dallas and I've gotta say this was the best I've ever had. The steak was tender and fried with the crispiest lightest batter. $20 gets you a protein and the sides are unlimited including delicious golden biscuits. And while the food quality is not Michelin star farm to table, they've got a good thing going and it's all made daily. Plus, it's so nice being in a restaurant with families, friends, and dates all bustling about with a good value huge meal. I'm in town from Philly. My hosts catered an entire meal from here. This was my first real meal in Texas. Ok, now I see why everything is bigger in Texas. I took a two hour nap before this meal just to get my strength. After eating this meal, I want to go back to bed. This is a good thing. Seriously. This meal is the ultimate comfort food. We were in Dallas for the weekend for our grandson playing in the little league DFW World Series, to see my sister and my soon to be bonus daughter in law's bridal shower and to meet her parents/family. My bonus son invited us for dinner at Babe's so that we could all meet and talk over dinner. We arrived it was pouring down rain. Her parents were outside and escorted us to the overflow side of the restaurant. It is a cute little side with long tables that have lazy Susan's on them. We had a table that seated ten with two lazy Susan's. Our waiter came and explained the experience as we didn't get menus. You pick your protein and have bottomless sides that consist of smoked chicken, fried chicken and fried catfish. My husband got the smoked chicken and my sister and I had the fried catfish. They start you with salad, which is lettuce and dressing, then homemade biscuits and your bottomless sides are creamed corn, green beans, mashed potatoes and sawmill peppered gravy. The catfish and smoked chicken were wonderful! My sister said the fried chicken was good. Not a bad thing ofc, but I confess I find most of the signs either too esoteric or inconclusive to be amused by. Must be just me. The service here is kind, but nothing special. Your typical young folk staff who are polite but also seem a bit over being there. But we have never had bad service here. Now for the comfort food. I don't really taste anything signature in their fried chicken. It's standard, straightforward, and safe. There isn't some iconic seasoning that makes you nod your head at the person sitting next to you like "THIS is fried chicken." Humble ol' Chick Fil-A blows Babe's chicken outta the water. While watching the movie, One of Them Days, it made me start craving fried chicken. My friend suggested Babe's Chicken and I haven't been there since 2019, so why not? I went with my friend and his mom who would go there occasionally for family functions. We ordered chicken tenders and fried chicken. After getting the food, it did not meet up to our standards. The quality and quantity have downgraded. None of us remember the food being this bland nor being so little volume. I personally just had the fried chicken and it was not seasoned, but very salty. The crisp was nice, but the saltiness very much overpowered the crispiness which I don't think it was enough to be up to par with the price. The green beans were also more on the salty side as well. As for the sides, the creamed corn was not creamed at all. It just simply tasted like sweet corn. The gravy and mashed potatoes were fine. We went on a Saturday evening, we were told that the wait for 3 was 15 minutes, but we got seated within 5 minutes. Service was fine, she had met all of our needs and requests. Very casual and country vibe ambiance. I don't think it's horrible, but the quality definitely has declined within the past few years. We all agreed that we wouldn't mind going back especially since it's a huge staple within downtown Carrollton, but we would no longer be the ones suggesting it first anymore. read more

We chose this place to celebrate my wife's retirement with her family on January 30th. I've been here several times before and have never had a good experience. The food was greasy and yucky and the service was terrible. Our server was Julissa G. I was really thirsty that day because I left my water at home so I ordered iced tea and water. I promptly drank them as soon as she brought them to the table. My glasses were empty when our food arrived and were still empty when I was finished with my meal. As for the food, it just wasn't to my liking. I didn't finish my meal and that says a lot because I was really looking forward to fried chicken that day. I'm so over this place. If one good thing came out of our trip here it's that I'll be tipping based on good service moving forward. I'm so tired of servers that think they're owed it based on the fact that they work in hospitality. I am writing to formally express my disappointment regarding my recent catering experience for a business event. On October 27, I placed a very large catering order and received email confirmation, leading me to believe everything was confirmed and in order. The event was scheduled for mid December. As requested, I emailed my final guest count one week prior to the event. At that point, I was informed that the original catering contact was no longer with the company and that my order was not "on the books." I was told the order was not confirmed because a signed invoice had not been returned--an invoice that was never sent to me by the previous catering manager. As a result, Babes was unable to fulfill the original order as promised. While I appreciate that the new catering contact offered alternate options, these last-minute changes required me to significantly rearrange a business event. This event was planned with the expectation of Babes Chicken, and the situation reflected poorly on me professionally, despite the issue being entirely outside of my control. What was most disappointing was the lack of acknowledgment of the inconvenience caused. I never received an apology or any offer to discount the order, despite the disruption and stress this situation created. This was especially surprising given Babes' reputation for excellent service. I would also like to note that some of the last-minute changes actually increased the total cost of the order, yet there was no consideration given for the service failure. I wanted to share this feedback because my experience was far from the level of service I had heard so much about. At this time, I am uncertain whether I would choose Babes for future catering needs. I came to Babe's with some friends on recommendation that this is a must try experience for Texas. In terms of chicken it is juicy and the breading is lighter. It's not thick or heavy which I liked but that's pretty much all there is to it. The seasoning was pretty much nonexistent, and I was pretty disappointed in the flavor and lack of spice in the breading. I think the real value is in the unlimited sides but that's all. Sides include salad, biscuits, mashed potatoes, corn, and green beans. All chose the chicken tenders and my friend chose the fried chicken. Salad came first with a vinaigrette dressing (sweet-coleslaw) taste, next came the fried chicken. Crust is thick, breaded, and crunchy. Sides are from a can and instant potatoes. But, the biscuits are fluffy, light, and delicious-best part of meal. The chicken was average with no season or spice-this isn't Popeyes. Just breading served southern style, dipped in buttermilk. I had to have the hot sauce to flavor it and wish I had some Cajun seasoning. Chicken was moist and you get a lot of food for $20/person. My friend from Washington doesn't have a flavor pallet so, this place is safe for people that don't like a lot of spices in their food. It's down home cooking served up in a fun environment. The staff is young, cute, and fun. Dancing the Hokey Pokey and having lots of fun interacting with the kiddos. This is a great place for kids as nothing is too spicy or hot for their taste buds. FINALLYYYY! I got around to going to babes for a coworkers birthday. If I had a dollar for every time somebody told me to go try this place, I'd probably have like $10, but nonetheless, I finally made it. So everything was family style and I didn't know it was byob until I got there but I know for next time. They do not have to go boxes or cups. Everything to go you put in a bag, so just be aware if you wanna bring your own Tupperware ANYWAYS, the food was DELICIOUS! I have nothing bad to say about the food truly. The fried chicken was perfectly crisp and seasoned just right. Not too salty but not bland either. The fried catfish was also perfect. Cooked good and crispy. Seasoning was great. As part of the illustrious Babe's franchise, rustic country charm permeates every square inch of this place both inside and out. So before you even start eating you can feast your eyes on the decor, composed of an interesting and unique mishmash of southern themed odds and ends. To accommodate the high volume of customers (and there's pretty much ALWAYS a crowd) they have an overflow dining area that's completely separate from the main dining room, which is where we sat on our most recent visit. I actually found the annex be more comfortable because it holds fewer people thereby making it quieter. No menus are provided here since everyone gets the same sides - buttermilk biscuits, salad, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy- plus one of 5 meats - fried chicken, chicken tenders, chicken fried steak, smoked chicken or catfish. With the chicken tenders they have honey mustard, barbecue sauce and ketchup for dipping. I've tried everything and can honestly say that there are no bad choices. It's all delicious! If you are extra committed to blowing your diet and/or want to satisfy your sweet tooth they have desserts as well (that are also not listed on their non-existent menus). We got the banana pudding on our last visit and, although I'm not normally a fan of banana flavored desserts, I have to say was very tasty. Now comes the justification for the 4 star rating. There are a couple aspects of the experience that I wish were different. One is that taking home leftovers of anything besides meat and biscuits is implicitly discouraged by the fact that they only provide plastic bags. It's a shame to see all those sides that you've paid for and could enjoy later go to waste. Next, is that parking can be a bit of a nightmare especially during peak times. The dedicated lot is small and you can't park in many of the nearby spots beyond it because they are reserved for other businesses. Needless to say, driving around trying to find a parking space while avoiding those tow away zones can be time consuming and frustrating. read more

Babe's Chicken is not to miss in Texas when visiting the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The original is in Roanoke, Tx in Denton County. We go to the one in Carrollton sometimes when visiting the city, as well at the Frisco and Arlington locations. We have never had a bad meal and the atmosphere at everyone is different and the same! They are the same in that they are interesting and quirky in the decor and layout - and the same in that they are all cool and fun! The food and service are outstanding. The speciality is Texas hospitality serving up fried chicken or chicken fried steak with all the side dishes served family style. We attended an event tonight at Babe's Chicken Carrollton location, and the event space was quiet and we had attentive staff helping us. The food was all about quantity not quality. We had low grade food with absolutely no option for anything healthy. Other than the chicken, the sides seem like something that is taken directly out of a can from Sysco foods. Babe's does not serve alcohol, and all of the drinks are sugary drinks except for water. I was not interested in taking the excess food home but if I did, I was provided plastic bags for everything. This meant cream corn in a plastic bag, mashed potatoes in a plastic bag, burned green beans in a plastic bag, etc. I would have liked food that was made with fresh ingredients but that was not the experience. read more

From their starting salad and biscuits to their chicken and sides and finishing with dessert, this was an incredibly satisfying meal with no frills. You order your choice of protein here (fried chicken, smoked chicken, fried catfish, etc.) and eat the unlimited sides family style - a weird ice berg lettuce salad that was strangely sweet, biscuits (tasty with the butter!), beans and corn (the best side). The chicken was perfectly cooked, each piece delicious from thigh to breast. Service was warm and friendly. If you have any leftovers, you're welcome to dump the proteins into the clear plastic bags they have hanging on a post. The server came by to explain how the restaurant works. Each person orders an entree and it's all served family style. The sides are unlimited. One thing I HATE is being served disrespect. And tonight I got 3 heaping helpings of it. i requested a fresh bowl of green beans because the beans were burnt BLACK. I wasn't upset at 1st, i thought it was a fluke. stuff happens.
