I'm in town from Philly. My hosts catered an entire meal from here. This was my first real meal in Texas. Ok, now I see why everything is bigger in Texas. I took a two hour nap before this meal just to get my strength. After eating this meal, I want to go back to bed. This is a good thing. Seriously. This meal is the ultimate comfort food. I loved everything. But I have to say that smoked chicken is special. You can tell it spent hours in the smoke. Well done, Dallas. You won me over.

After being feed the word at church we needed to be feed some good ole chicken from Babe's Chicken Dinner House. We got there a little early before they opened at 11:00am but were still greeted with a happy howdy and smile. Our server Lupe was top notch polite and friendly. The ambiance is old comfy cabin with the vibe of grandma cooking Sunday dinner in the kitchen.

Definitely a 3.5 less than 4. Solid to good fried chicken. Flavorful and juicy. The sides are run of the mill country sides. The biscuits are pretty darn good too. Price is fine for the amount of food you get. About $20 for half a chicken and all you can eat sides. It's no frills, simple menu. Service was attentive. Decor is a little tacky. It's a staple as I know a ton of people go here. Just go hungry to make it worth it.

My guess is this spot is popular and loved because of the decor that keeps you distracted while waiting for your food. Not a bad thing ofc, but I confess I find most of the signs either too esoteric or inconclusive to be amused by. Must be just me. The service here is kind, but nothing special. Your typical young folk staff who are polite but also seem a bit over being there. But we have never had bad service here. Now for the comfort food. I don't really taste anything signature in their fried chicken. It's standard, straightforward, and safe. There isn't some iconic seasoning that makes you nod your head at the person sitting next to you like "THIS is fried chicken." Humble ol' Chick Fil-A blows Babe's chicken outta the water. The potatoes, corn, and greens... yeah, it's just potatoes, corn, and greens. A little slushy in texture and not spruced up one iota. I will say I do like the hickory smoked chicken. It's the only food I've tried that has character.

Fun, atmosphere with all you can eat sides and some of the best fried chicken crust. Went to this spot for the first time based on a friend's recommendation from Washington state. She said it was some of the best fried chicken of her life. Off we went to try it. Seated right away in a cowboy-chicken themed restaurant with country decor. There's a chicken coup and an old timer cowboy mannequin inside. Ready to serve you family style. There's no menus-servers will tell you the meat choices-fried or smoked half chicken, fried catfish, chicken fried chicken, or chicken fried steak. Sides include salad, biscuits, mashed potatoes, corn, and green beans. All chose the chicken tenders and my friend chose the fried chicken. Salad came first with a vinaigrette dressing (sweet-coleslaw) taste, next came the fried chicken. Crust is thick, breaded, and crunchy. Sides are from a can and instant potatoes. But, the biscuits are fluffy, light, and delicious-best part of meal. The chicken was average with no season or spice-this isn't Popeyes. Just breading served southern style, dipped in buttermilk. I had to have the hot sauce to flavor it and wish I had some Cajun seasoning. Chicken was moist and you get a lot of food for $20/person. My friend from Washington doesn't have a flavor pallet so, this place is safe for people that don't like a lot of spices in their food. It's down home cooking served up in a fun environment. The staff is young, cute, and fun. Dancing the Hokey Pokey and having lots of fun interacting with the kiddos. This is a great place for kids as nothing is too spicy or hot for their taste buds. It was a lot of food and no to go boxes- just bags to save on supplies. Took home our fried chicken and tenders to enjoy some leftover fried chicken with my waffles. This is a one time experience and highly recommend for kids.

FINALLYYYY! I got around to going to babes for a coworkers birthday. If I had a dollar for every time somebody told me to go try this place, I'd probably have like $10, but nonetheless, I finally made it. So everything was family style and I didn't know it was byob until I got there but I know for next time. They do not have to go boxes or cups. Everything to go you put in a bag, so just be aware if you wanna bring your own Tupperware ANYWAYS, the food was DELICIOUS! I have nothing bad to say about the food truly. The fried chicken was perfectly crisp and seasoned just right. Not too salty but not bland either. The fried catfish was also perfect. Cooked good and crispy. Seasoning was great. Honestly was impressed by the catfish I had. Chicken tenders were basic but still good tenders. Nice crispy coating, almost reminded me of chicken express tenders but better. The mashed potatoes looked pretty bland upon looking but honestly were very good with the gravy on top. They were smooth and buttery. Green beans basic but good flavor, wasn't mad at them. The biscuits were delicious and slather some butter and honey on that bad boy and you got a good bite! Idk what took me so long to get here but I'm glad I finally did and I will be back a lot!!

You can't ever go wrong with Babe's. The food is always consistently so good and fresh. Literally steam coming from my food every time. The servers are attentive and nice. The management always checks in too. Haven't been in a while to this location but glad they renovated the bathrooms. So nice and more spacious.

While the restaurant is not modern, it does makes you feel like you are eating at grandma's. Fried chicken is good, but the side of corn is hard to put down. The server was friendly and ensured our sides where topped off.

As part of the illustrious Babe's franchise, rustic country charm permeates every square inch of this place both inside and out. So before you even start eating you can feast your eyes on the decor, composed of an interesting and unique mishmash of southern themed odds and ends. To accommodate the high volume of customers (and there's pretty much ALWAYS a crowd) they have an overflow dining area that's completely separate from the main dining room, which is where we sat on our most recent visit. I actually found the annex be more comfortable because it holds fewer people thereby making it quieter. No menus are provided here since everyone gets the same sides - buttermilk biscuits, salad, green beans, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy- plus one of 5 meats - fried chicken, chicken tenders, chicken fried steak, smoked chicken or catfish. With the chicken tenders they have honey mustard, barbecue sauce and ketchup for dipping. I've tried everything and can honestly say that there are no bad choices. It's all delicious! If you are extra committed to blowing your diet and/or want to satisfy your sweet tooth they have desserts as well (that are also not listed on their non-existent menus). We got the banana pudding on our last visit and, although I'm not normally a fan of banana flavored desserts, I have to say was very tasty. Now comes the justification for the 4 star rating. There are a couple aspects of the experience that I wish were different. One is that taking home leftovers of anything besides meat and biscuits is implicitly discouraged by the fact that they only provide plastic bags. It's a shame to see all those sides that you've paid for and could enjoy later go to waste. Next, is that parking can be a bit of a nightmare especially during peak times. The dedicated lot is small and you can't park in many of the nearby spots beyond it because they are reserved for other businesses. Needless to say, driving around trying to find a parking space while avoiding those tow away zones can be time consuming and frustrating.

You'd think that would be a basic training lesson and menu knowledge you'd have to grasp before being given a section. Don't put vague descriptions in print if your staff can't break them down when the guest asks questions. On a side note, I know for a fact that this company requires all their managers to be clean shaven. Yet, I saw a cook/chef with a fairly thick, quasi-biker beard working the line in an open kitchen in clear view of guests. Kind of ironic. I'd rather the dude making my food be clean shaven for obvious reasons. Unlikely that I return.

The bathrooms weren't the nicest but also not the worst--one of the stall doors didn't lock, though they had added something to help with that. The inside is pretty nice, and our waiter came over shortly after we were seated. We ordered appetizers and drinks, and the appetizers arrived in about 15 minutes. Unfortunately, the service wasn't the best. Our server would leave for long periods and didn't check on us, even though she passed by our table multiple times and we clearly needed assistance. She also addressed us with very casual language like "yeah," which didn't feel very professional. That said, the food was excellent. Everything starting with the chips and salsa was great--the salsa was one of the best fresh salsas I've ever had. We also ordered the cheese quesadillas, and they were perfect in every way. My entrée was delicious as well; the cheese and meat were cooked perfectly, and the rice and beans were great. (I got the fajita Monterrey) Overall, the food was very tasty, but the service could definitely be more professional. Also, the menu is not very flexible--you can't substitute ingredients (like removing onions from the guacamole) or order off-menu items such as egg tacos, even though they have the ingredients. The food was good, but I'm not sure I loved the service.
