    Fast, Safe Airboats. EXHILARATING!
    Michael S.

This is STILL LOTS OF FUN! Took the 1/2-hour quick trip again. No reservations required for the 1/2-hour excursion. Just walk in. Print out the $2 off per adult coupon online. Normal price is $29 per adult. I paid cash ($2 discount per adult) so with the coupon it was just $25 for each adult. WE ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE! Earmuffs provided and recommended. Be sure to tip the captain.

What a cool experience! I highly recommend it. Having always wanted to experience an airboat ride, I decided to try this one right off State Road 520 (a.k.a. West King Street) between State Road 528 and Interstate 95. It is on the south side of the road. There is a gravel parking lot for about 30 cars. The airboat company is located at the Lone Cabbage fish camp. There is a coupon that you print out a bring with you for $2/person off. No reservation is required for the larger airboats. The cost is about $30/per person for 30 minutes. You enter, pay, fill out a waiver, grab a pair of ear protectors and wait for the boat. I would recommend bringing a jacket as it can get a little chilly with the wind as you are moving across the water. If you wear a ballcap you will be told to turn it back due to the strong winds as you fly across the water. Our guide drove us farther up to the north of the St Johns River to get us some views of alligators. When we got to our destination he stopped the motor and let us drift so we could ask questions and get pictures The alligators have been very hard to find due to all the current boat activity at the time of our visit. The experience was a lot of fun. It is not like a normal boat in that it is moving across the top of the water so turns are very different and fun and there are a good amount of turns. There is plenty of animal life to see from birds to cattle to alligators. This was a great experience that I would recommend if you are in the area and want a fascinating experience.

OMGosh! I've always wanted to go for a ride on an airboat! As a relatively-recent Floridian, "seeing" an alligator doesn't really "trip my trigger" - but it did our family (and 7-yo grandson's) - so as we were together and visiting the Space Coast, our son found this gem of an airboat location - Twister Airboat Rides! 30 minutes was the perfect length of time - and our capitan was terrific in pointing out what we were seeing. Yes, we saw alligators! WHO knew they had hider-holes along the banks! But my most favorite part was seeing all sorts of cattle almost blocking the boat channel! WHO knew birds would sit on the backs of the black cattle??! And what could be more beautiful than the clear blue skies, the tall green grasses waving, the head-waters of the St. John's River near Melbourne and Lake Okeechobee with black-backed cattle and the whitest of egrets! We slip-slides across the channel and it was as close to flying as could be! MANY thanks to our captain for introducing and showing us a part of Florida I'd never dreamed was there!

Was in the mood for some gator so decided to give this spot a try. Airboat rides are available but we stuck to the food today. We were seated promptly and our drink order taken right away. I ordered the combo which included gator, frog legs, catfish, coleslaw, fries, and hush puppies. Our meals were delivered in a reasonable amount of time. The gator was delicious on its own and strangely went well with cocktail sauce. The catfish was very tasty and went well with tartar sauce. The frog legs were the best tasting and expertly prepared. I dont order them often but these were exceptional. Cole slaw and fries were very good. The hush puppies might be the best I have ever eaten. They were moist on the inside with the perfect crisp on the outside. It also had a sweetness to it but just the perfect amount. I will definately be back for more.

This was awesome! Fun, educational, and so exciting! Definitely something for everyone including kids.

Lone Cabbage Fish Camp is a no frills, laid back restaurant right off of Stage Road 520. Stop by to drink a cold one and watch NASCAR or buy a few pounds of gator meat. The food isn't the greatest, but this is where all the locals come to hang out. For my lunch, I had a sampler of fried catfish, gator, and frog legs. I had never tasted gator before and the pieces of catfish looked just like the pieces of gator, so I never knew what I was eating. Whatever I was eating, it was a bit on the dry side. The frog legs, on the other hand, were quite moist and the palest meat I had ever seen. The veins were a blackish purple, contrasting with the pale meat and grossing me out. But, I have to admit, frog legs are tastier than chicken. Long Cabbage also offers airboat rides http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_boat at $20 for a 1/2 hr ride. Airboats are quite fun to ride in. This is a bird lover's paradise, as there are several types of birds in this area of the St. John's River. Our captain stopped our boat near two alligator nesting sites. We didn't stick around for long once the momma alligator hid under the water. Alligators are capable of jumping 5 feet out of the water, so we hightailed it out of there after a few minutes.

We have been on a few different air boat rides over the last 5 years but this was by far the best, the captain was rough but authentic. He was very entertaining and informative. He answered all our dumb questions and dispelled many myths about gators. We went with a group of 8 without an appointment and it was about 15 min wait is all. We went late morning and about 73 degrees and clear. We were lucky to see about 30 gators.... all the largest we have seen in the wild. Our captain chuck was able to maneuver the boat to drift directly towards he gators without disturbing them. We got CLOSE!!!

No Frills is right! From the outside, it looks like a place you don't stop...even if you run out of gas. It is always packed with locals from the "back woods" if you know what I mean. This was the first place I ate gator. It was neat to try I guess, but was a little dry and salty. The menu features tons of fish and basic bar food. The weekend is filled with people fishing and dropping their boats in the water. They also have air boat rides you can take. In the hot sun, it feels great. There is also a park close by for kids to play. If you haven't seen Florida swamps, this is great stop!

If you happen to find yourself in Central Florida looking for something different and fun to do, I suggest taking a visit to the Lone Cabbage Fish Camp. The Lone Cabbage offers a great way to experience Florida's wetlands via airboat. It offers a variety of tour packages starting with a 30 minute tour of the St. John River -- if you are lucky you will see a gator or , in addition to amazing plant life and birds. And I can't forget the cows wading in the marsh (not what you expect to see on gator tour, lol) After your boat ride, you can enjoy lunch at the cafe. I had the buffalo chicken and hush puppies -- the best puppies I have ever eaten. I also sampled the frog legs, gator bites, and homemade fries -- All were absolutely wonderful. This is old school Central Florida at its best.

Stopped for lunch and an airboat tour, loved the captain, the atmosphere was totally casual - good food I had the catfish, huch puppies and swai. The airboat ride was the highlight of the trip, saw lots of gators, great scenery and learned about the trees, wildlife and gators from the captain. I'd go back for sure!

Wow just wow....... am so glad I choose to do this. At first your skeptical because you want to see alligators. It's not guaranteed you'll see any but our boat driver Kenny knows where to go... this guy is very informational about the surroundings and has great stories of his own which made the trip even better. I will be returning when I visit Florida again. Thanks so much Lone Cabbage for a great adventure. Our kids really enjoyed this. Family of 5 and it's well worth the $$$$ DONT FORGET TO ASK FOR KENNY ON YOUR NEXT BOAT RIDE!!!!

This is a Sunday so there is live music (every Sunday starting at 1:00) with a very good band playing a mix of country & rock. The crowd is a mix of tourists in for the airboat rides, families with small children in search of gators, and motorcycle enthusiasts ( mostly couples ) on day trips from Orlando vicinity. We are here by invitation for a birthday gathering. So I am stepping outside of my box to a new experience. Upon arrival I think how cute this place is to be in the middle of swampland. It is actually a hot June summer day, 97 degrees, as I write this. But there is a breeze/cross wind coming through this open air restaurant. There are also ceiling fans, but yes it is still very hot. A Full bar is available as is table service. The menu offers burgers, fried food, and basic salads. This place delivers exactly what one would expect from a fish camp / airboat dock. We had very nice helpful service. The food is decent and the buckets of beer are reasonable. The birthday boy (77 years old) went for an airboat ride and had a blast. For all this it gets 3 stars, which to me means it met all expectations.

As Merritt Island residents, it's amazing to think that the historic St. Johns River is right in our backyard, yet we had never experienced it from an airboat until now. After reading A Land Remembered and learning about the Florida cattle drives and "Cracker" way of life--the people who lived off the land, traveled these rivers, and helped shape the Florida we know today--this experience felt like a glimpse back into that era. The St. Johns River is truly part of the story of Florida, and seeing this unspoiled landscape preserved from development was something special. It's a reminder of what makes this state unique, and I'm grateful that places like this have been protected for future generations. When our family came to visit and wanted to experience an airboat ride, we finally made it happen with Instagator Airboat Rides, and we couldn't have picked a better experience. Captain Mike was like family from the moment we arrived. He was courteous, friendly, punctual, and shared so much knowledge about the river, wildlife, and history of the area. His boat was extremely comfortable, we always felt safe, and it was clear that Captain Mike is a careful and experienced captain who truly loves what he does. The entire trip felt less like a tour and more like spending the day on the water with an old friend who was sharing a special place with us. Such a beautiful and diverse selection of plants and wildlife was abundant including gators, birds, turtles, wild hogs, cattle... we even had a calf race along the riverbank pacing our boat playfully chasing. Such a beautiful experience and a lifelong memory. We had an incredible time, learned so much, and gained an even deeper appreciation for the natural beauty and history that surrounds us. We're already talking about going back out again soon. If you want a genuine Florida experience that connects you with the history and wild beauty of this incredible state, Instagator Airboat Rides is a must!
