My parents liked the manager, and the packing team was very good, which was heartening because according to Indeed, the job pays at or near minimum wage. The local moving company they work with did a good job too, picking up items from the house and from a warehouse to bring to the apartment. After speaking with a few friends who were customers under Gentle Transitions ownership, I see the fees have gone up since the company was sold to a national business, and is owned by a private equity firm. If you're not price sensitive, this is a great service. But if you do want to be thoughtful, it pays to get a few bids and ask each company where money can be saved. And even before you ask for a bid, be aggressive about donating or giving away possessions!! There are so many options in the Twin Cities. Also, if you want to supply some boxes, it is cheaper to provide you own, as we paid for every box they supplied (even though we didn't keep them) and for everyones time, and it adds up quickly. But remind them on the day since between the bid and packing day, staffing changed and some of our boxes were missed. Side bar: is you're starting a pile of things to donate, place them together in the same room so they're mentally out of the way. Few things to look at means less brain energy going toward constant mental sorting. Moving is nothing but decisions decisions decisions. Start now and you'll feel better in the long run.

We hired College HUNKS for a labor-only move and trusted them to professionally load our…read morebelongings. That trust was clearly misplaced. Before loading began, the crew was provided with more than 20 moving straps and over 30 moving blankets. They were also given clear instructions not to load our carbon fiber bicycles into the truck because those bikes were intended to be transported separately in a trailer. The crew ignored those instructions. When we arrived at our destination and opened the truck, it looked like a disaster scene. One bicycle handlebar had been driven into a television box, puncturing it. One bike's carbon fiber frame was cracked across the top tube. Another had all the protective coating on the front fork scrapped down to bare metal. Our dining room table arrived with a massive gouge in the edge. Bed head and foot boards are rubbed and scratched so they all need to be refinished. Multiple items showed signs of being poorly secured and improperly loaded. Nothing was protected by the 30 moving blankets or 20 ratchet straps!! What makes the situation even more frustrating is that there was no shortage of proper equipment. We purchased and provided 20 ratchet straps and 30 moving blankets specifically to protect our belongings. Several times throughout the move I reminded them of the straps and the moving blankets. One employee said to me "we haven't had to use the straps yet," but they were still in boxes. I was sure they would use straps on the furniture! Yet the crew chose not to use appropriate securing methods. Instead of using one of the many supplied ratchet straps, they secured a bed frame headboard to the side of the truck using an elastic lacrosse rebound training tool. After documenting the damage with photos and video, we contacted the company expecting them to stand behind the work performed by their employees. Instead, management acknowledged that blankets and straps had been available but denied responsibility, citing the fact that the service was classified as "labor only" and referencing a liability waiver. Apparently, according to College HUNKS, "labor only" means their employees can ignore explicit instructions, disregard readily available moving equipment, use improvised tie-down methods, damage customer property, and then the company assumes no responsibility for the outcome. We hired professionals because we expected professional loading practices. What we received was damaged property, a cracked bicycle frame, ruined furniture, and a company more interested in finding contractual excuses than taking accountability for the actions of its crew. I would strongly recommend that anyone considering this company think very carefully before trusting them with valuable possessions.

I called to reschedule and was told by Chloe that there would be a $25.00 fee for rescheduling. Management would absolutely not budge on this EVEN knowing i was only rescheduling because cleaning cannot be completed without running water AND this change was required outside of my control. So happy this happened before I wasted hundreds of dollars on a cleaning with a company that is absolutely inflexible. Doesn't make sense to lose current and potential long-term business over $25.00.

After being showed the materials to be moved, he didn't make any notes about the items to be moved, yet he gave me a quote. and I agreed on the price. When I talked with the owner Nick about the method of payment, he absolutely refused to accept a cashier's check. He was concerned about the check bouncing. I had to explain to him how cashier's checks worked. On the day of the move, they showed up in a Uhaul, one guy was late, and two of the 3 guys showed up smelling of alcohol. I walked them through the items that we had agreed that were to be moved. They told me that they were on a two hour schedule and some of my things would not be moved. Explained that I was simply paying to have my things moved, I didn't have control over how smart they worked. They called their owner Nick who was extremely unprofessional, apparently the young man who gave me the quote had mistakenly failed to list many of my items. (remember he didn't write anything down during the walk through and had just made up an incomplete list. Even though he had not been present during the walk through, and have not seen for himself what the items to be moved, he swore his employee had not made a mistake,. I tried to reason with him,but he would not relent. I was only going to get 2 hours of work regardless of how fast his crew worked. Well, what kind of work do you think you might get from workers who are inebriated? These guys worked like zombies for two hours and of course didn't get the job completely done, and I was left with a house full of furniture. Nick showed up to view the proceedings, and only made matters worse. Zero people skills. Unwilling to take responsibility for his mistakes. No concern for customer satisfaction. All he was concerned about was getting his money. Because I needed to move right away, I was forced to hire them again to come back the the next day to complete the job. Two guys showed up. One of them screamed like a little girl when he saw a spider in the basement. He immediately got on the phone to ask Nick to cancel the job. Nick wanted the money, so he told the guy over the phone to go back to work. I had to get a broom to scare away the spider (which by the way, I never saw) before he would go back to work. Later, he called Nick again because he thought he saw a mouse turd on the coffee table. I had to use my finger to show him it was just ash. This would have been funny if it wasn't happening to me. Save yourself from this comedy-drama train wreck. Find a more reputable company.

I chose Blue Dolly over two competitors based on their written estimate: $453 (stated range…read more$400-$575), 2 movers, arrival 12-2 PM. The reality: the crew arrived at 1:30 PM -- 90 minutes late -- and finished at 6:30 PM. The final bill was ~$1,000, more than double the estimate. This was a light load: ~1,000 lbs, ~35 boxes, no beds or appliances. The crew told me their previous job that morning had also been scoped at 2 hours and ran to 4 -- they arrived exhausted, and it showed. Two movers were sent to what was realistically a 3-man job. Along the way they gouged a wall at my old house and scratched a door and chipped the frame at the new one (see photos). I called their office multiple times during business hours -- no answer. The aftermath has been worse. I disputed in writing with photos. First they told me a damage claim was submitted with a 4-6 week window; two days later the same manager wrote there was "no claim number associated with this one." No adjustment offered. The estimate isn't a plan -- it's a sales tool. If you book them anyway, document everything.
