Nothing special to be found here, ordered the number 3, figured it was kind of a smoker for 16 bucks, very disappointed. Their burnt ends ends weren't burnt or seemingly ends, tots were well fried, sauces were awesome, limited seating. Most likely won't be back, although I will probably try again at some point just to be sure. I'd reccomend slow's any day over this place cheaper and better. We are pretty picky about BBQ but 2 Scotts is off to a good start. Tried the pulled pork and the sausage (they were out of brisket and ribs but we'll be back to try them) the pork was very good nice and tender, the sausage was juicy. Also tried out the coleslaw and pimento mac-n-cheese. The mac-n-cheese I think would be best enjoyed there as it had congealed a bit by the time we made it home and the slaw is definitely more tart and vinegary vs sweet and creamy. Sad I forgot the cornbread will have to grab it next time. Tried all the sauces, but I didn't mark them. Could not tell between the house and the hot. Neither seemed "hot" but they were both good, my husband loved the mustard sauce. read more

I can't recommend Two Scotts highly enough! Their barbecue is probably the best I've ever had, and I tend to be a snob about such things. Their St. Louis ribs and brisket are absolutely to die for. My then-fiance and I first tried Two Scotts while looking for a wedding caterer. They were the last stop we made, because we knew instantly that we wanted their food on our special day. We tried a few other barbecue places in the area, and were completely unimpressed. These guys are the real deal. There are actual smoke rings in the meat, and everything is tender and delicious. Even their sides are outstanding (especially the corn bread muffins). Our wedding was last weekend, and I have to give an extra shout-out to their catering service. They arrived promptly a little before the time we'd agreed on to allow set-up time. They brought plenty of food, and were ON TOP of the whole service situation. As soon as a pan was getting low, they would put a new one out. We were completely impressed by their service and professionalism. Oh, and they brought a ton of food. Most of our guests went back for seconds or thirds, and we still ended up with a TON of leftovers, a fact I most certainly won't complain about. We received countless compliments, with people saying it was by far the best food they'd ever had at a wedding. Had the 3 meat combo and it was a good amount of food for $16. The brisket and pulled pork was very good. Pulled chicken was good but better with the horseradish sauce. Being from central Texas, BBQ is a way of life and one of the best things about Texas. Two Scotts Barbeque is well within the central Texas standards of barbeque with its amazing brisket and great sides. The brisket is fall apart texture and flavorful. They don't usually do moist and lean cuts but they were willing to fulfill my request. The mac & cheese was great, cheesy with pimentos thrown in. The baked beans were sweet and filling. The customer service was great and the workers were hospitable. The prices were reasonable but customers not familiar with bbq need to be aware that "meat ain't cheap" bbq will cost you. I stopped in for lunch during a week day. This place gets very busy and have quite a bit of takeout orders. The chicken was probably the best thing I tried. Ribs were average. My review of Two Scotts is long overdue! Maybe this is because my spouse typically picks up Two Scotts and delivers it to me, so I'm not sure if I've ever actually been inside despite having food from here numerous times. Two Scotts opened shortly after I moved back to Grand Rapids from Detroit. While in the Motor City, I lived mere blocks from the to-go location of a famous Detroit barbecue shop. Addiction naturally ensued and I became very loyal (barbecue seems to be like war--you need to pick a side and fight to the death for your preferred purveyor). All that to say, I viewed Two Scotts with a skeptical eye. That ended and my allegiance changed forever at the first bite of their heavenly burnt ends and brisket! The pork is good, too. I appreciate that Two Scotts majors on the majors. The sides are fine, which is kind of cool because it gives the meat the starring role it deserves. Two Scotts is confident, delicious, and delivers world class barbecue without any distractions. Food was average and I had a real issue with the "burnt ends".... which consisted of cubes of tender, fatty meat with little if any charred parts! Four West Michigan barbecue joints in 1.5hrs for lunch. That was my goal, and mission accomplished! First off, there's only 2 things I cared about: brisket and sausage; both the most difficult thing and easiest thing to cook, respectively. Two Scotts was first on the agenda and came in last place. The brisket was somewhat juicy but completely lacking in flavor on both the rub and smoke fronts. The meat faired pretty well in the pull test, but could have been more tender. A significant problem was the lack of any serious bark on my slices. In fact, 3/4 of my portion had no bark at all - just the exposed fat cap layer that, quite frankly, wasn't rendered down nearly enough. The lack of bark is indicative of three things: 1. Not enough rub, 2. not enough evenly distributed rub and, 3. pulled too soon. I'll get to that in a minute. The brisket that the slicer had on the slab certainly had some bark, but for large sections the fat cap was plainly visible. Smoke flavor was practically non-existant which left the overall flavor somewhere around pot roast. Bark on every single slice of brisket, whether from the lean or moist end, is par for the course and criminal behavior when missing. The lack of all-over bark, bark that is a bit of a wet mess, and meat that is just shy of really tender usually point to one thing: It's being pulled too soon and/or isn't being rested long enough. I'd say maybe both. The key to that elusive sugar cookie bark is low and slow. That bark has got to be nearly black when you pull it. If not, you're just fartin around. Whether it's pulled and then wrapped, then placed back on for more hours, then pulled and rested - is neither here nor there for great bark. The sausage, however, was delicious but did taste more grilled than smoked. Everyone in this place was cool and are clearly busting their butts. I wish them success but can't urge them enough to leave that brisket in the smoker for a longer period of time until the bark is black, pull and wrap with butcher paper, and stick it back on until you get that precious jello wiggle. Then rest for hours, lol. Since coming to Grand Rapids from Oahu, island of Hawaii, I've missed the BBQ I would always enjoy back home. Once I discovered Two Scotts BBQ I was instantly brought back to the islands. The time and dedication that goes into making your food goes beyond expectations. TSB has a variety of meats to choose from and a whole lotta sauce that you can get lost in. Hands down the best BBQ in town. Smoky and juicy from meat to meat. We'll see if Slows can give it a run for its money when they open but it's going to be tough. If you've never tried burnt ends or haven't liked them in the past, don't make the mistake of not trying them here. I can't emphasize how important it is to try the burnt ends. Just do it. A good selection of sauces but of course you'll definitely want to try all of the meats with no sauces first to really evaluate and notice the things they are doing so right here. The only thing I wish they had, and this is extremely minor, is a good Memphis style molassesy and brown sugar sauce. Seating is somewhat limited but I'd rather stand outside eating this BBQ out of a take out container then have a nice comfy seat eating infinitely inferior BBQ someplace else. A little pricey too, FYI. But once you taste the food, I think you'll feel the investment was well worth it read more

I went to Two Scotts today for a late lunch, and if I'm being perfectly honest, it wasn't love at first bite. I love supporting local spots and see potential here, which is why I went with 3 stars, but there is room for improvement. I got there about 2:15, and wanted to try a variety so went with the 3 meat/2 side combo. Unfortunately, of the 7 meat choices, they only had 4 left. I understand because of the time it takes to make BBQ joints tend to run out of menu items, but it was still dissapointing especially since they had run out of my top 2 choices. I could have called an audible and gone with a just meat 1/2lbs pulled pork instead of the 3 meat treat, but I hadn't eaten all day and I panicked, and had been looking forward to a food-coma inducing had case of the meat sweats all day!! Now to the main course of the review, pun absolutely intended, sorry not sorry. I ended up with pulled pork, burnt ends and sausage, with smoked beans and mac n cheese for the sides. Both sides were satisfactory, I've had better but they did an adequate job of playing the supporting role to the BBQ. For $16 portion size could have been more generous, I wasnt still hungery but not stuffed either and would have been nice to have left overs. That being said I get that meat can be expensive and my dad bod is a testament to my healthy appetite, others may find the portions more than plenty. The pulled pork was excellent, top 3 I've ever eaten. The suausage was good but not great, and the fatty parts of the burnt ends was good, but the non fatty parts were a bit dry and tough, overall wasn't impressed with the burnt ends. Now for the accompaniment: the sauces. The house sauce didn't knock my socks off. It's not that it was bad, just somewhat unremarkable. That's just my opinion, I'm no pit master. The dog sauce and SC style were both interesting. The dog sauce was the thinest and light pink in color. the SC at least to my pallet seemed to have prominent tones of horse radish and either honey or Dijon mustard, which gave the sauce the most bite, but not in a way that was overwhelming. I definitely recommend BBQ lovers give it a try, and may go back to try the stuff i missed out on, but probably not super soon. read more

We got a platter with a little bit of everything. It was all delicious, especially for being BBQ in Grand Rapids, MI. Not a city known for its amazing BBQ. The owner was really friendly and the place is a great little shop. Most of the seating is at a counter against the outer windows. There's only seating for maybe a dozen people. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the burnt ends. I'm used to Kansas City burnt ends and Two Scotts' were very fatty by comparison. The flavor was good, but the fatty texture was not. read more

We LOVE this place! Awesome food, great service. We had 2 Scotts cater our wedding and they went above and beyond. They helped provide a meal for a guest who is vegetarian and gluten free, they provided a free tasting of everything on the menu, they responded quickly to emails, had storage containers for leftover food, and were great with our guests! I think they are only open for lunch and I finally stopped in here while I was in the area and really liked it. It was right during lunch time and it was quite busy, which I took as a good sign of people really liking their food. There was a good mix of what I'd guess were locals and business folks out for lunch. I got their brisket and loved it! Next time there I will add in some sides and try the brisket in a sandwich but on its own the brisket with their house bbq sauce was delicious. I give 1 star for each Scott. I'm a huge fan of barbecue and have tried nearly every establishment in Grand Rapids. Two Scott's is decent, but certainly nothing special. I have been in three times now, and have yet to be truly be impressed by their offerings. The brisket was exceptionally dry, I expected much better seeing as I showed up right when they open at 11am to get the fresh cuts of meat. Seeing the brisket under a massive heat-lamp almost brought me to tears, and not the kind of tears you cry when eating delicious, mouth watering barbecue. Burnt Ends were decent, better than the brisket but still nothing to write home about. I did really enjoy the homemade tater tots, but when spending $20 on lunch from a BBQ joint, you expect the meat to be the highlight of the meal, not to be overshadowed by a school lunch side dish. My biggest problem with Two Scott's is their lack of sauces, they could definitely stand to add a few more varieties, as to me both of their BBQ sauces seem to contain horseradish; a flavor I personally cannot stand, the spicy variety is especially unpalatable. Ultimately Two Scott's is just another mediocre barbecue joint masquerading as something more, don't buy in to the hype (if there even is any). Stick to Horseshoe Smokehouse, or even Slow's if you have to, at least at Slow's the sauces don't taste like Arby's Horsey. read more

This place seriously has the most amazing barbecue in Grand Rapids. The meat is perfectly cooked and seasoned and is super flavorful. The sauces are a great compliment but honestly you don't even need it. I was really impressed with the burnt ends and pulled pork sandwich! The pulled pork is moist, tender pulled pork that allows you to really appreciate the flavor of the meat (not some soggy gritty mess that is drowning in sauce in an attempt to make it taste good like at so many other places). They have a great selection of different meats, the smoke flavor is on point and the sides are delicious too. Some reviews say it's too expensive but I don't think so, especially for this quality and the amount of time that goes in to making it the right way! read more
