I visited on a Friday night as part of a bridal party rehearsal dinner - the wedding was very close by the following day. We booked well in advance for a table of 15 and we really need not have bothered, the rest of the dining room had maybe 3 other occupied tables. Food was as you'd expect after taking a look around the empty dining room. My steak was over cooked and drowned in an overly sweet smoky bbq sauce even though sauce was requested on the side. This gets a 3 because the cover band playing in the front bar were actually pretty awesome and entertaining. Our group was by far the youngest clientele this local had seen in a long time, we had an oldie come up and ask us to pose in a photo with him that's how novel we were. Can't say I'll be back in a hurry.

In fact, I was wondering if the entire town had suddenly, all at once, decided to come down here for a meal. Maybe that I was case, I guess that is one of those mysteries that I will never solve. However, despite having to weave my way through countless people to get the the bar, I still really liked this place, especially the rural setting just ten minutes drive out from Salisbury. The beer garden is especially nice, as is the view over the vineyards out the back.

Maybe it was the fake turf out the front, appealing to my inner hipster. Or maybe it was the promise of a house blend coffee to cater for my depleting energy levels. I'm really not sure what it was, but I'm glad I ventured inside for a Sunday afternoon bite to eat. Mrs F's Eatery boasts an affordable menu, classic pub meals with a twist, sourcing ingredients from within a 100k radius.... And you really can't fault a place that supports the locals! The service was top quality; I was given a selection of local beers to taste, speedy service, and the overriding feeling that I was important; always a nice feeling for a customer! I'm not sure what this place was like 18 months ago, prior to what is either a refurbishment or new management, but both the interior and exterior is inviting, and I felt more than comfortable sitting in a corner with my book, watching the world go by. My sandwich special was good. It wasn't "out-of-this-world-holy-crap-best-sandwich-ever-good", but it was good! Overall : I enjoyed my experience, and would come back if ever find myself in Gawler again!

Even though, seeing through the windows. people that came up to an hour earlier were getting their food well before us.

We ordered steak _well done, no blood_ and had to send it back 3 times. Each time it came out raw with blood running across the plate. Staff shrugged and said "steak is cooked with blood coming out, it's natural". Hygiene is non-existent - 0/10. The waitress had her fingers all over the food when she brought the plate out. After all the back-and-forth to the kitchen, we both got sick. It genuinely felt like something was done to the food. The staff stand around gossiping about customers loud enough for everyone to hear. When we raised the issues politely, we were treated like rubbish. To top it off, I received an aggressive, insulting email from the manager/owner saying we are no longer welcome, just for complaining about raw food and poor hygiene. *Food*: Undercooked, unsafe *Service*: Rude, unprofessional, gossipy *Hygiene*: Disgusting - staff touching food *Management*: Hostile and unaccountable Avoid at all costs. Made us sick and then banned us for speaking up.

They also have quite a decent sized beer garden, but we ended up spending most of our time in the front bar, which was quiet, and really nice as well.

It's only a stones throw from where I live and it killed me almost when I moved interstate a couple times as I couldn't find anything close that compared. Such a huge range of seafood!! From whole fish, that if you wanted gutted or filleted they'll do it for you and also will hand you the scrappy offcuts so you can make stock or whatever. No mess in your own kitchen, you beauty!! They also have a huge range of crustaceans and shellfish and all the iddy biddy bits like oysters, mussels and scallops. Not to mention all the different sized octopus and squids. One part I wish I could throw myself over and allow my skin to take over the aroma is the smoked fish!!! I freaking love smoked fish!!! I grew up on it as my Popsie always got some for Easter and Christmas. My parents also smoked our catches (usually Tommies) when we were kids. It was from then that stemmed my smoked fish addiction. All of their fish (apart from the smoked sliced salmon, I think!) is smoked on premises. You know this place is fresh when you see the workers out the back doing the sorting/filleting etc. However, there are a few fish that obviously gets imported but they label that to let consumers know. I'm off now to make a delicious seafood chowder and oysters Kilpatrick using what I bought today for my hubby's valentine's day meal. Yep I'm a good wifey!
