Chelsea is my favorite place to audition for several reasons. It feels like the big leagues: the facilities are nicer, there's wi-fi, and for the most part it's where Tara Rubin and Jay Binder cast most of their Broadway stuff (Mr. Telsey has his own little studio at his office). I imagine it's a little pricier than RG or Nola, but it's definitely a step up. Also, I had a wonderful experience here a while back while waiting to go in for some Pirates thing at Paper Mill Playhouse. They were auditioning for Young Frankenstein, and while I waited in the hall, I saw Raul Esparza (http://www.ibdb.com/person.php?id=75718), Sean Hays, Mel Brooks, and Marin Mazzie (http://www.ibdb.com/person.php?id=68268). All of them major stars, and all of them waiting to go in, holding their audition books and headshots just like me. It was inspiring. That's Chelsea Studios for ya, the great equalizer. read more

Chelsea Studios is a good audition and rehearsal place. It's simple, clean and serves its purpose well. It is leagues above NOLA, less...uh...pink than RG and a little less cramped than Shetler. They offer a table for stapling, cutting and doing whatever you need to your headshot/resume. They have some refreshments but don't have the selection of Ripley Grier (who does, really?). This a such a great studio and rehearsal space. Almost all of the studios are clean and offer track lighting with dimmer options. There is also a full bathroom AND a decent sized dressing room, allowing for men and women to change in a space other than the bathroom. Tony, the manager was so warm and professional, that he allowed my class into the studio even before I arrived! This atmosphere made my class so happy and appreciative, that they have been giving over 200% in every class! Hangers & hooks in the studios also make the studios much bigger, as clients do not have to keep their belongings on the floor. The security people downstairs are always pleasant, and there is no exceedingly long and stressful elevator line like at Pearl Studios. I am so grateful to have changed locations from Pearl Studios - Pearl Studios was not organized. The wait for the elevators was a nightmare! I highly recommend renting from Chelsea. They appreciate their clients and THEIR clients' clients as well. read more

A pretty nice space for a gym space in the city. It's clean and simple. I wouldn't expect much help -- only because there might not be someone manning the front desk -- but the space is pretty self explanatory. Vending machines, too! read more

Huge rooms (especially compared to Simple Studios) but the best values are for groups of less than 6 people. If you have more it just about doubles. Good option when Simple is sold out for improv practice. read more

GREAT studio space! Even the smallest studio in this facility is quite a good size. The rooms are clean and well-maintained. I especially appreciated that there was both a bathroom AND a nice-sized dressing room. The studio manager was nice and polite. He even allowed the class in the room a couple minutes before the instructor arrived so we could get ready for class. There are hangers/coat hooks in the studios and lots of space to work/work out. I was taking Hip Hop with Koko at Chelsea Studios and was looking into other dance classes here also since I really liked the space. Imagine my disappointment when I learned that classes with Koko will no longer be held here since the Chelsea Studios management team gave preferential treatment to big-name brands and engaged in unprofessional behavior essentially to make more money. I no longer want to attend any other classes at this studio, and refuse to support an "arts" business that will prioritize profit over supporting their community. read more

I highly suggest this place if you are interested in supporting them remodeling or repairing the rest of space. (They just remodeled the lobby which is less than a quarter of whole space) One thing you have to understand is that they would cancel your booking even at the last minute if there are someone else who can pay more than you. I miss the days when they had 2 floors, and the front desk people there were very friendly. read more

I've taken several classes here by different groups, including one of which had a terrible experience with management (scrolling down it doesn't look like it was alone), that rent the space. If ever there was a facility that was dingy and gross, this is it. The bathroom, lobby, changing room, and floors are in less than great shape. I'm not sure what groups are paying for the rooms, but it would be nice to have some truly upgraded, usable facilities. read more

Rates have gone up presumably to pay for the 'remodel' that seems to have been limited to the lobby area. It looks like they rearranged the same old stained chairs and thats about it. The bathrooms are always in disrepair and out of order, the water fountain has duct tape on it and the studios themselves continue to be in bad shape. The floors are way behind in upkeep and do not compare to the nice springy floors at other studios in Manhattan. Floors are chipping and warped, I hope you don't want to dance barefoot or in half shoes! There is also very little ventilation as they are stingy with the AC and won't allow you to open windows. Speaking of windows I've seen some of them broken and have cardboard etc in place :\ If prices are going to go up, make sure repairs are in places where they are actually needed! read more

Chelsea Studios hosts White Heat, which is one of the better Lindy Hop events in NYC. This is where they play the fastest tunes of all events around herey. Chelsea is a bit further away from the other big audition spots which gets a bit of an eyeroll from me, but there's plenty of seating, a snack bar and the bathrooms are relatively clean, so no other complaints. I also like the giant board right when you walk in telling what's auditioning where. read more

If you actually need to use the studio, don't rent here, because they can and will cancel your reservation on short notice. I reserved a large studio, six months in advance, for 4 full days in April, 2016 for an educational event for 35 people coming from all over the States, Canada, and Europe. I had a written Rental Agreement, but Chelsea Studios informed me by email 5 weeks before the event that they preferred to give the space to someone else and therefore were cancelling my reservation. From their email: "Theatreworks has come into an opportunity to work [with someone else and]...I am forced to preempt [you]...Obviously, your invoices are void." When they make a reservation, what they mean is: I'll rent the space to you unless I get a better offer. I have spoken to others whose reservations were cancelled, so my experience is not an isolated incident. So if you don't really need the space, go to Chelsea Studios. But if you actually want to use the space on the day of your reservation, consider booking elsewhere: their reservation is worthless, as is their word. I would give 0 stars if I could. read more

We booked a lock out on a space at Chelsea Studios for a 29hr reading we were working on. This was a very large musical with a lot of last minute requests. Firstly, the staff was very accommodating for our initial one studio rental. They were able to provide lots of tables and chairs (above and beyond what was required by contract). They were hands on and very timely in helping with everything big and small, including a flickering light. Chelsea studios was also very accommodating with last minute space needs. There were a few times when we needed a second space for step out sessions, and they were happy to work with us. Our eventual presentation went smoothly and was a great success! We would gladly book with Chelsea Studios again in in the future. Thank you to the staff that made being in your space a stress free environment. read more

This studio is great! I love how clean it is and the staff is helpful. The location is desirable and easy to get to. This studio is much better than Pearl Studios. I'm glad that my instructor has changed locations from Pearl Studios - Pearl Studios was not organized. The wait for the elevators was a nightmare. read more
