Tavola was recommended to me while staying overnight in Mexicali. From the moment I walked in to the very moment I left the experience was perfect. I was seated at the perfect table on the patio and after receiving bread and butter, was greeted almost immediately by my server Gerado. He suggested a wonderful white wine and walked me through a few items on the menu. I was unfamiliar with the Carpaccio Di Polpo but he was right - I loved it. The Petto Alla Parmigian was one of the best I've ever had, seriously, and the portion was way more than I could eat. There was also a lovely blonde server who assisted me with learning how to say "esta muy bien". I don't even know if I spelled that right, but thanks to her, now I can say it! Would love to give the staff 10 stars if I could. I loved my entire night at Tavola and will go back the next time I'm in the area. read more

Food: Italian food in Mexicali? Believe it or not, it's pretty friggin' good too! The MEZZALUNA VERDI is incredibly good, spinach ravioli-like pasta in an Alfredo sauce... I was just sad there wasn't more of it! Awesome appetizers, calamari was solid, prosciutto and cheese platter was very European-esque and the deserts were all good. Watch out for the cheesecake - the slice they bring seems like a meal in itself! The only thing I would comment on, the restaurant is very fancy and upscale inside, then when they serve the bread, it comes in a metal cone with paper wrapping. Get rid of that and go for a nice basket with a warm cloth or napkin to hold the bread in. Step that presentation up a notch... Atmosphere: It is very nice inside the restaurant, but it can get a little loud with all of the people that they cram inside. Still, it seems easy to have conversations even when it is busy. Service: No complaints, even with the rush of dinner we were still able to be seated and our server was very nice. It is great they can usually speak English and Spanish, so communicating with everyone appears to be pretty easy. Price: It's Mexico, so it's cheaper than the states. For just an elaborate meal, it is a little more inexpensive than it would be in the states, but for Mexico, it seems to be one of the more expensive places that we ate at during the week. Still, 30$ will get you an awesome meal! Overall: This place rocks. Everything was delicious, people were friendly, menus in English/Spanish/Italian... such a unique experience and I will definitely be back to try more food! read more

Ordered multiple drinks alcoholic and non and I've never been so disappointed in a mojito. most definitely never coming back I left my meal untouched. Nice looking place. It has an upscale ambiance. The service was good. They were busy but overall the waiter was attentive. We ordered the calamari with squash appetizer. It was good except it could've used more seasoning, maybe garlic and salt. We ordered a Margarita pizza which was very good. We also ordered a neopolitan pizza. This one was ok but not nearly as good as the margarita. I wouldn't order the neopolitan pizza again. The pizzas here are of a size to feed two people. The crust is very nice. The cappuccino was pretty good. The tiramisu was good too. Not too sweet but it had a good espresso flavor. Prices were reasonable for an upscale place. read more

Went here for dinner with my boyfriend and his family to celebrate his step mom's birthday! I was excited to try out their food since I was so hungry by the time we got there. We had a reservation and we were seated without any problems. Since we were a big party we ordered a bunch of food to share among everyone. While we're waiting for our food we were given a small assortment of bread with some olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The bread tasted good and I was already starting to get full after eating some... Overall the favorite thing we ordered was the Filetto di Manzo con Pepe. It was so good, I loved everything about it! I also liked the Crostini di Mozzarella y Prosciutto that we got as an appetizer. Those were my favorites out of everything we ordered. I felt I didn't enjoy the rest of the food we ordered as much due to the lack of flavor. I was mostly excited to try their pastas, but their Spaguettoni al Aglio e Ollio felt so dry and flavorless... And I didn't enjoy the Fettuccini Alfredo a la Ruota due to the alcohol that was added, but that is a personal preference of mine. Their desserts tasted ok, but at this point of the dinner I was so full that it was difficult for me to enjoy any of the sweets we ordered. As for their drinks, I ordered a Piña Colada and a Paloma. Their Piña Colada was SO strong I couldn't bring myself to finish it, the alcohol flavor was just too much. On the other hand, their Paloma was SO good! Paloma's are probably my favorite alcoholic drink hands down. It was made perfectly and even came with a full can of soda. Still glad I tried this place out! If I ever do come back I would be interested in trying out different items off of their menu. read more

Excellent Italian food. My favorite in Mexicali. It's a new place with some cool design elements. This place has the style and flair to be anywhere... which is great when it's Mexicali ;-) Also, a big open patio for those summer nights (which start early February here). The pastas and lasagna are solid with lots of flavor. They have a wood fire oven for pizzas, which are good. Big fan of the crust... toppings could use some excitement. And, prices are amazing for those with dollars. Beer in a hip restaurant for $1.25? Sign me up! This place is outrageously good. Service impeccable with a staff ready to wait hand and foot on making sure everything was satisfactory. Food very good, from appetizer to dessert. Had a beer and wine with dinner, but the cocktail was the real kicker, and they have many to choose from. Located a stones throw from one of the nicest Holiday Inns I have ever stayed at. My soup and pizza was delicious. They even made a special pizza for my son that doesn't eat cheese. He was so happy, he ate the whole pizza. You could tell that the vegetables were fresh. I'm sorry to leave this review but this was my experience. fyi-I put myself through college as a waiter (twice working high end Italian restaurants) Easter lunch -good ambience, staff was very friendly & attentive. However, my wife and I did not enjoy our food at all and they didn't have the air conditioner on! As a matter of fact I got diarrhea about an hour after lunch. The chicken was extremely salty and tasted like it was microwaved to thaw then grilled (rubbery) The calamari tasted like it was deep fried in a strange cheap oil that had an aftertaste on the roof of your mouth and was under fried too. Fettuccine was very bland Salmon was cooked well but zero seasoning- no flavor not even butter. Pizza was good I'm sure others have had a better experience but I could've spent $80 elsewhere--we'll be going back to Santini's. read more

I have always loved this place for the great food and service and will continue to bring all my visiting friends and family. The only slightly annoying thing is that sometimes they don't serve the main course to all diners at your table at the same time -- sometimes one person will get their food and have time to eat and finish their entire meal long before the other person ever sees their food. A request to the waiter usually helped remedie it in future visits, but sometimes they slip back into the semi-annoying practice. Still it's such a great restaurant that I'll keep going a lot! read more
