This place is a bad joke. Signs on the locked gate said call this number for service. After calling the number and there was no answer and we heard nothing but crickets. There were other customers standing in the pouring rain waiting to get service to no avail. This place is obviously ran by ass-clowns. Stick with a real business ran by professionals. read more

I really want to support my local mom 'n pop businesses, but I'll not be going back to U&D. The tomato starts I bought last spring all ended up with leaf wilt and it set the plants' production back severely. I had a good experience ordering 5 yards of compost delivered, but when I later ordered a yard of gravel, it was a small nightmare. I don't expect to have to direct the truck driver beyond showing him where I want the product placed. I expect the driver to know the truck and how to maneuver it, or bring another employee if he needs help. I ended up with 3 foot deep trenches in my front yard and upon calling U&D, was assured that they would take care of it. I told them that I'd like the yard restored to it's previous condition and they agreed, along with replacement of the product I had purchased. Instead, I got replacement product dumped and no assistance with putting my yard back together. In the end, I'm OK with the outcome, but I won't shop there again based on this experience. I've got better things to do with my time and energy than fixing a retailer's mistake. I think I'm being generous with three stars given their 50% follow through on the agreed upon rectification. read more

Paid for 4 yards of compost to be delivered, it was delivered and the amount was questionable. (Previously we ordered compost that we picked up, 2 yards that fit on the bed of a standard truck.). We asked them to come look at it, called three times and spoke with two different people, no one came out and no adjustments were made. The amount delivered definitely did not seem like 4 yards and the fact that they would not come out makes them appear guilty. Will not be a returning customer as we were definitely shorted. read more

Called to see about getting 10 yards of Compost Mix for our raised beds. The lady who unenthusiastically answered the phone acted as if it was a big pain answering my question about the cost and delivery, she then cut me off and told me that she would call me back shortly to get delivery information. After waiting 4 hours I decided to call Bark Place. They answered the phone quickly, and sounded as if they were there to serve and help me! (imagine that) They had a 3-in-1 Compost just like U&D, it was $25 a Yard vs. U&D $33 a yard, and they delivered later in the day! About an hour later U&D finally called back, the first thing she said when I answered the phone was, "that will be $330, how would you like to pay?" I then informed her that I had already purchased it from Bark Place for $80 less, "wow, thats a steal, it must not be as good as our compost, I guess you get what you pay for." This last weekend, my wife and I purchased five yards of material (three bark and two soil) from U&D Nursery. We chose U&D because we have purchased many plants and products, as well as smaller amounts of soil, from U&D in the past, and we have always been very happy with the quality, cost, and customer service we have received. We are customers both of the nursery and of the stand at the Albany Farmers Market. Unfortunately, in this instance, we did not receive the good customer service we had come to expect from U&D. The driver, who dumped our load, dumped the bark out first, using our rake (which he broke). He separated it into two different piles. Then he dumped out the dirt ON TOP of the second pile of bark! We had been told that, since we were buying two products, there might be some 'minimal mixing in the truck during delivery' (these are the exact words used to describe what might happen). However, what actually DID happen was NOT a bi-product of two products or of the delivery. It was caused by the driver's laziness and incompetence in dumping one product one on top of the other. Now, we have a pile bark, covered with dirt, a broken rake, and a huge mess with two unusable products. Needless to say, we are extremely upset and disappointed. What upsets us most is the lack of customer service we received when we called to discuss options for remedying the situation. The woman who answered implied this mess is our fault for ordering two products. The next day the owner sent an email and offered $15 to replace my $40 rake. If U&D does not have the capability of delivering two products without dumping one on top of the other, they should not even agree to deliver a mixed load. We feel the two products could have been delivered, without so very much mixing, if the driver had simply used a little more time and care when he dumped them. He didn't--and now we have about one yard of an unusable mixed mess of bark and dirt. We are very disappointed and upset. read more

The amount of knowledge these ladies have is amazing. And they offer a CRAZY amount of options. Unlike going to a chain store they have vegetables for any type of soil - and the advice you need to put in a great garden. Highly recommend! read more

We wanted to support our local nursery, but learned not to trust U & D Nursery! (We now live in Millersburg.) We paid for 6 yards of crushed rock. Online it states 6 yards of rock would be 5' high x 17' x17' and when we measured the rock they delivered it was 3' high x 12' x 9'. On the delivery receipt it states the rock was delivered by a 5 yard truck! When I talked to them they said they delivered more than 6 yards of rock. How do you get more than 6 yards of rock into a 5 yard truck?? On top of that the truck was only about 1/2 full! So we paid for 6 yards of rock and got 3 to 4 yards. So much for trying to support your local Nursery!! Never again!! read more

I have ordered from U&D Nursery before and I had not had issues with them until now. I ordered fill dirt, and when I got had it delivered it had pieces of pvc piping, plastic, garbage wrappers and sod plastic netting. When I went in to talk to them about the fill dirt and looked at the prices on products information, no where on there does it say that plastic could be expected. There is no information anywhere regarding the type of junk that could be on the fill dirt. When I talked to the Owner, Walt, he was very grumpy and did not want to hear what I had to say. Instead tells me to either take half of a refund and to "hell with me". I have worked in customer service before, and to tell a customer to "Hell with you" is not a way to run a business. I did not want to go to a place of business and be verbally insulted by the Owner and be treated that way. I am no LONGER GOING TO BE DOING BUSINESS WITH A PLACE THAT DISRESPECTS ITS CUSTOMERS. I did not deserve to be mistreated like that when all I wanted to know why there was plastic on my fill dirt and how they could rectify the issue. I RECOMMEND NOT BUYING FROM THIS PLACE!!! I would rather go to the Bark Place instead. I called them while I was at U&D and talked to the owner of Bark Place and he was very respectful and straight forward and told me what was in their fill dirt. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE INSULTED AND MISTREATED BY THE OWNER, DO NOT GO TO U&D!!!! They have lost my business and any respect I had for them. read more

They carry quality products but I really find their staff to be entirely un-enthusiastic and rude about customer service. I always come away feeling like it was an inconvenience to help me or deliver products. I don't think they realize that it is their customers that keep them in business. I would give them a two stars for customer service. And four stars for their products. Never like the way they treat customers. But keep going back because of the quality. If there was another quality company with good service I would use them instead. read more
