Since the Little Gay Pub decided to kick everyone out at 12:15 am while they were still busy, we ended up here. EXPERIENCE: A totally different level of friendliness was had here! The bouncer and bartenders had much more pleasant attitudes. Inside, it's a simple space with a big central bar and tables scattered around. Music wasn't overly loud so conversing was good. U Bar is perfectly located between Here and There. Plus it opens every day Before (1100), During, and After (0200) . We dropped in at 1330 on a Saturday afternoon. We were given an opportunity to partake a brunch or lunch. We chose the later. It was ridiculously inexpensive: tomato soup and gooey grilled cheese sandwich for 9USD and Chicken Shawarma for 11USD. Hung out here at the last minute to catch up with a newish friend. We had a gracious female bartender. Even though I didn't feel I vibed with most of the crowd nor the parade outfitted looking members outside, it was real nice to catch up with this newish friend. U Bar is a fabulous Bar, it gives a friendly neighborhood vibe in the middle of center city Philadelphia. The owner, bartenders are amazing. We had brunch at Darling Jack's Sunday 4.27.25 and needed to kill some time before Philadanco at 2pm. I looked on maps for nearby cocktail bars and found U Bar. We were here briefly. Bartender was welcoming. He made a delicious cosmo. He was clearly working hard to make sure everyone had what they needed. Chill crowd of mostly men enjoying their drinks. This is the bar on the area to hit up for a casual happy hour or night during the weekend if you're looking for a diverse mix crowd that's actually pretty full. This might be the only bar that is consistently packed. The downside is def that there is not as much seating when the back room has special events occurring. The back patio is also very cute and opens up the space more. It's def sports bar vibes but also not. It has a front and back door so that makes exiting the bar very easy and you do not have to squeeze back through the front. They have food but I've never tried it. The bathroom is very standard generic. They def do decent drinks here on top of the usual beer and well drinks. read more

A fun down-to-earth bar in the neighborhood. Drinks are much cheaper than Woodys and the clientele much more friendlier and down to earth. Still holds true to its roots as being a predominantly gay bar unlike Woodys and Voyeur. read more

I kid you not this was the worst bar experience I've ever had in my life. Mind you I'm not from Philly, so maybe this is how yall act and are okay with people talking to you and handling you like that-- but my friend was just looking for his other card to pay because he had lost it, and the bar tender took the drinks from us and started yelling at us that it had been 15 minutes and if we weren't paying then no drinks. I have NEVER had a bartender do that to me, and again maybe yall are just like that up here I don't know, but one thing about it you do not talk to customers that way-- we were in the middle of finding a solution, and he treated us so unkindly. He wore glasses and had white hair and a white beard. I don't know who owns the bar, but maybe check your waiters to see if they have some manners. I was literally about to take my card out and everything. And ALSO my mouth was already on the straw, what was the point of taking the drink away, were you gonna give it to somebody else??? I came to her for a quick drink before heading to the train station. Upon entering the bar, I had a feeling of deja vu and realized that I had visited this bar a few years back. U Bar seems like one of those bars where the locals come to hang out. It's the perfect setting to meet up with friends, grab a few drinks, and head out to enjoy the nightlife of Philly. From my impression, almost everyone at the bar knew each other. That said, the clientele was pretty friendly toward me as a "Johnny come lately." As the name would suggest, the bar is more or less in the shape of a U so you can see pretty much everyone at the bar without making much effort. Unlike many LGBTQ bars, U Bar has a decent enough beer selection. For me next Philly visit, I'll definitely make a point to visit U bar again. read more

Even before moving to Philly and just visiting, I loved coming to U Bar and last night was no different. While not a huge amount of space, it leans into being a nice neighborhood bar style place. This is a cool place! Yesterday, Memorial Day 2019, was my first encounter with U Bar. I actually am not even sure that I've heard of it but it was open at the awkward hour of around 2pm on a holiday and close to 13th street. This place is on the smaller side but the bar is very centrally located. It was super busy on the holiday we visited. The bartender was also really nice and friendly. Our drinks (vodka diet, obv) were served in the smaller glasses rather than a tall class. Not to say they skimped out on the alcohol because there was probably at least a 1:1 ratio with the vodka and soda. I'm so glad I discovered this place! We will definitely be back. read more

While on a small trip to Philly I decided to try this bar with a friend. Our mistake is believing that bar food will actually be good. Not going to lie the menu sounded interesting but seeing and tasting the actual choices did not do it no justice. We started off with Sriracha Deviled Eggs. We get the eggs and it was a deviled egg with a drop of sriracha. The potato skins had so much sour cream and cheddar cheese on top that we couldn't taste the potato. The salads were a bit boring. I had a tuna melt and tomato soup. Both were fair not the best I had. Then last came out spinach and artichoke dip which turned out to be just melted cream cheese. It was quite the disappointment. Pleasant and cozy little pub. Main bar is too wide so there's not much space on either side. Big windows look out onto Locust and Camac Streets. Beer selection is maybe a touch above ordinary. Service is friendly, crowd seems laid back. When I was there with friends they were playing a lot of depressing old pop ballads and R&B songs so it made me more want to go home and cry myself to sleep rather than have a lively time. read more

Although it appears to always be crowded, we were able to score spots towards the back of the bar with ease. The crowd was attractive, mixed, friendly, and a lot of fun. There was no attitude or pretentiousness and everyone seemed to have the same focus...to have a great time. The bartenders each night (yes we made multiple stops to U Bar throughout the weekend ) were always professional, efficient, accommodating, and friendly. Bravo U Bar! With the demise of Uncles, there came a top to bottom renovation, fresh pain, removing the years of filthy smoke stench from the walls, new bathrooms, an airy appearance, and a new atmosphere that can only be described as Ultra bright Mehhh... With all the money that they spent on renovations, they forgot to put sound absorbing panels on the wall or something that would attenuate sound. Instead, the bare walls actually reflect and accentuate noise, creating an ultra loud, almost uncomfortable ambiance. Still, it's a wonderful improvement over what it used to be. read more

While walking around the gayborhood, we decided to try U Bar. It's a non pretentious bar. We just went for one drink. The clientele was friendly, as was the bar tender. It's basically just one big bar. There were a couple of tables. I had a Chainbreaker white IPA. It was also really good. It was my first white IPA. I would definitely visit this place again for a chill place for a drink. They have some build your own sandwiches, but we didn't try them, but it concept sounded cool. read more
