I came to her for a quick drink before heading to the train station. Upon entering the bar, I had a feeling of deja vu and realized that I had visited this bar a few years back. U Bar seems like one of those bars where the locals come to hang out. It's the perfect setting to meet up with friends, grab a few drinks, and head out to enjoy the nightlife of Philly. From my impression, almost everyone at the bar knew each other. That said, the clientele was pretty friendly toward me as a "Johnny come lately." As the name would suggest, the bar is more or less in the shape of a U so you can see pretty much everyone at the bar without making much effort. Unlike many LGBTQ bars, U Bar has a decent enough beer selection. For me next Philly visit, I'll definitely make a point to visit U bar again.

While on a small trip to Philly I decided to try this bar with a friend. Our mistake is believing that bar food will actually be good. Not going to lie the menu sounded interesting but seeing and tasting the actual choices did not do it no justice. We started off with Sriracha Deviled Eggs. We get the eggs and it was a deviled egg with a drop of sriracha. The potato skins had so much sour cream and cheddar cheese on top that we couldn't taste the potato. The salads were a bit boring. I had a tuna melt and tomato soup. Both were fair not the best I had. Then last came out spinach and artichoke dip which turned out to be just melted cream cheese. It was quite the disappointment. The one star is really because of the host and serves who were nice.

I get it, things change...the scene in Philly is much different than I remember from the last century when I lived here...I just would have hoped that it would have been change for the better. Got a drink, was short changed, not much but not the point...tell me what I owe. After I/we did the math, it was a difference of 2 bucks. Wouldn't care so much if there hadn't been lipstick on my glass and attitude from the bartender... At the end of the day, business is business...where are you going to spend your hard earned dollars??? At a place that appreciates your patronage or one who doesn't? I think this may be my first 2-star review as I am usually at one of the extremes. This place has potential, but for a first impression...not so much. I write this to help the business better itself, and better serve its clientele...love!!!

Absolutely miserable, when he starts his shift he will remove my beverages even if the half full, throws them away all the time and gets away with it, knows it's mine, OR will absolutely ignore me and friends at the end of the bar because he does not like us. He has been known to tell people he does not like them and refuses to serve them on that basis alone. Too many people have brought this up before to continue to endure this piss poor bartender ruining an otherwise enjoyable-as-always time at the Bike Stop.

First let me address this: The Bike Stop is what you make of it. Go in, relax, be friendly to…read moreothers, and overall be a nice person, and everyone else is going to reflect that back to you. It started off with the bouncers. They asked for my ID! I haven't been asked for ID in well over 20 years, so I was quite pleased to be asked for it. I produced my ID, and bopped on in there with my date. The place wasn't packed for a Friday night. A few folks at the pool table, some folks wandering about, and lots of people at the bar. We wandered downstairs where the light was red, and the bar had fewer people at the bar. We took our seats, ordered some drinks, and paid. Nice, strong drinks, and the bartender was super friendly. When we asked for glasses of water, they literally had a stack of pre-poured water for anyone who wanted it, and handed it over no questions asked. Some places try to charge you for water. Not this place! That's awesome that they're encouraging safer drinking. We had a lovely time. A troupe of ladies came in and were chatting with the bartender, while this shirtless guy was making out with some other guy on the other side of the bar. After a while, I wanted to maybe dance a little bit, and see if I couldn't find seats at the bar, as well as explore the rest of the space. Also, there was some kind of smell going on in the basement that I couldn't quite put my finger on, but it was getting in the way of my good time, so my date and I wandered up. There were a couple of seats empty at the bar! Nice. We asked politely from the guy sitting next to it if those seats were taken, and he gave us a big smile, saying "Nobody's sitting there, but thank you for asking anyway!" What an absolute sweetheart. We ordered a couple more drinks, until my date overheard the guys who welcomed us to grab those chairs talking about some horror movie they'd all just seen and were obsessed with. My guy chimed right in, and the lot of them got into a spirited enjoyable discussion about horror, music, and the various implications of those in our various POC communities, and it was such a good time. I was curious about the other two floors, as we'd now experienced the basement area and the main floor. Apparently those other floors are only open for special events, and they have a total of 4 of them. Some day I'd like to come back when the whole place is open, and have a nice wander around the space. The crowd on the night we went was on the bear-y side, but we also saw that group of queer ladies in the basement, and people of all different races and body types in the space. It was lovely to see a place where diversity is celebrated, and we felt welcome even as out of towners coming for a short visit. The people were lovely, the drinks were strong, and the staff was friendly too. Literally on the way out, as we passed the folks outside having cigarettes, we got them waving goodbye to us and asking us to come back again soon.

BrianB July 18, 2026…read more RUN don't walk to TOC Restaurant... They have updated the interior but more importantly have a new CHEF (from the one they opened with when they 1st re-opened) who has proven over & over again to be an extremely talented & creative chef who produces sumptuous meals to order. Both my partner & I have an allergy to garlic (it's a curse...Lol) and have some experiences where when the chef is told of our allergy (for instance @ Knock) & the response has been "the dish is made with garlic and I am not willing to change that." Not only has the chef @ TOC worked with us around this issue but on 2 occasions came to our table to suggest alternative seasonings so we could order that dish. We cannot say enough great things re: our 6 to 7 dinner we've had @ TOC in the past 2-3 months nor can the guests who have accompanied us. I would be hard-pressed to name a restaurant that offers the quality of their meals @ a reasonable price as TOC offers in the City !!! Haven't had the pleasure of recommending a restaurant in some time with the passion & energy I feel re: TOC & its' marvelous CHEF !!!!

It was more of a playful nostalgic environment rather than a place where I would eat, but for a quick strong cocktail or beer it was a fantastic hang out. There were several of us and the bar was slammed. Loved the Ms Pac-Man arcade game and the Godzilla pinball machine next to the dart board. The gender neutral bathroom was a disaster and loved it. The door had a posted sign as a warning, "One Urinal, One Toilet, One Lock". The walls and ceiling (yes ceiling) was plagued with colorful marker ink and stickers, basically graffiti. Was not sure if I was permitted to add to the decor, but I wanted too so badly. Surprisingly, the sink, urinal, and toilet was so clean that the white porcelain shined against the graffiti. The retro-inspired geometric pattern of white and black hexagons created an inviting tile floor. If you are visiting Philly, you gotta take a peek. Guaranteed this is a stop you wont soon forget.
