Called to see if propane tech was on duty (They often are late for appointments). Very rude on the phone. I asked if the tech was on duty, she said, "I'm here 'till Two". I asked two more times if that ment she was on duty now. I have called before and the on duty person went to lunch for over an hour! Miss Rude then says, " I told you three times I'm here 'till 2! This is NOT where you want to rent or return a UHaul from, you would be better off to use a "neighborhood dealer". Everyone that works there acts as if you are doing them a favor by going there and do not have a customer service attitude. On May 31st 2023 I rented a trailer (Reservation # 87799288) from a neighborhood dealer in Dewey/Humbolt AZ and I returned it to the Columbia Missouri UHaul store at 10:30 AM on June 1st. When I returned it, I was told by a mechanic to just "drop it with the other trailers and the Manager would be out to talk to me". After I parked the trailer and disconnected it (and WHY should the customer have to do UHaul's job of disconnecting the trailer?) I waited for 10 minutes and the manager NEVER SHOWED UP. After tracking the manager down inside the store, I told him I was returning a trailer, told him the issues I had with the trailer (loss of brake lights and turn signals) and he REFUSED to provide a receipt when asked to show I returned the trailer. NO ONE told me that I could use the UHaul app to return the trailer. I called UHaul customer support as soon as I got home and received a call back from a field manager Sunday night. He told me that I should not have had to disconnect the trailer myself, that UHaul corporate policy says the manager should have provided a receipt when I asked for it and he would talk to the Traffic Department and straighten out the issue. And this is not an isolated incident, this is the THIRD time in seven years when returning a trailer to UHaul Columbia I was not given a receipt upon request and it is the first time I had to disconnect the trailer myself. read more

Absolutely terrible experience - reserved a Uhaul truck & auto transport for a move across country & the Uhaul employee encouraged us to come back later for the auto transport after we had loaded the moving truck (after we had already confirmed reservation and paid). When we came back to pick up the auto transport, they had rented it out to someone else and no longer had ANY available for us. We were on a strict timeline for our move (across country) and had to drive all the way to Wichita to rent another auto transport as this was the closest location with one available. Ended up delaying our move and costing additional time & money we had not anticipated due to this error. Then, we had to spend over 2 WEEKS talking to the managers at this location/region AND corporate office before the auto transport (which we never received) was refunded to us. Absolute trash customer service & was promised calls & messages back from managers for weeks with no call back or communication. Take your business literally anywhere else. read more

I had to get wiring replaced for my trailer hitch. It was originally installed by U-Haul in Escondido CA and was covered by warranty. Originally scheduled for March 31 but had to reschedule after being onsite an hour after my appointment and told it wouldn't be less than 3 hours before my car would even get into the bay. Dropped off this morning and was told it would be 60-90 minutes tops. Im standing here keys in hand 3 hours after dropping it off. And all that was done is that a new wiring module was installed for the trailer hitch. That's it. Very disappointed it took this much time just for wiring. Another troubling trend is that they continually raise the rates on the storage units. Rent has been increased twice in $5 increments in less than 12 months. Quality is low but the cost is getting higher. read more

The two people working here today were not in the office instead they were smoking weed in what I can only assume was a friend of there's car, taking turns getting in and out. The car smells heavily like weed for 5-10 feet away. I also tried to return some lost U-Hual equipment and one of thes weed smoking guys TOI (pronounced TOY) was very disrespectful and knew nothing about the reward for the return of the equipment, told me to come back tomorrow to maybe get my reward. So I called corporate and was informed that they at the U-Haul center is supposed to Dole out the reward. And they asked me who told me to come back tomorrow for maybe a reward and then I asked the gentleman what his name was and he got really short and disrespectful with me asking me why the hell I keep asking for his information! So I walked into the store with a few questions and left very quickly. Not only is the store located in a very shady part of Columbia (the person working behind the counter was very busy and the only gentleman working) there was two or three ladies in office style rolling chairs in the middle of the room (customers or friends I haven't a clue) and a couple buying boxes, I was not greeted or given any direction of what to do. I had no idea if I was in line or did the couple pay are they waiting on someone else who knows? Are the women in the chairs next or have they been helped ? I haven't a clue. So after ten minutes of walking around with no help I left and called the customer care number and had my questions answered that way. I knew when I pulled in that the area was really bad (shootings all the time) and I should of turned around, well lesson learned. read more

Overall reserving the truck and pick up and drop off of the truck went great however I'm giving the Uhaul located in Columbia, MO off Business Loop 2 Stars. The reason for the 2 stars is because when reserving the Uhaul I asked two employees Tasha and Tammy if they had "MOVERS" to help me move. I was doing the move by myself, both ladies suggested another male uhual employee by the name of CJ (Clarence). CJ agreed to help me move. 3 days before the move he texted my personal cellphone asking "wassup" and "what was i doing", wanting to "get to know me". 2 days before the move he texted my personal phone again wanting to negotiate a price for helping me move a 1bd, 1ba apartment, he was asking for $200. I stated I could pay him $100. 1 day before the move he denies my $100 offer and says that he can not help me move for only $100. Leaving me stuck, scrambling and desperate to find someone to help me move. I end up finding 2 guys (NOT associated with uhaul) to help me move, they charged $25/per hour and it took 2 hours to help me move. DO NOT ASK U-HAUL FOR A MOVER TO HELP YOU MOVE THEY DON'T HAVE ONE AND THE EMPLOYEE THEY OFFER WILL CONTACT YOU ON YOUR PERSONAL PHONE & TRY TO SCAM YOU. read more

We rented a a cargo van last night around 4pm. It says to return the van by 7pm to avoid being charged another day's fee. We returned the van at 7:03pm and the guy that was still there told he wouldn't charge us. Then, boom! this morning, I check my account and you better believe they went ahead and charged us another day. Extremely BAD customer relations when they can't forgo charging another day for just 3 minutes. Businesses should also not lie to their customers. I guarantee I will never use this company again. Good job, U-Haul. I hope the $23 you charged me is worth losing customers over. I am also going to encourage others to use other businesses as well. read more

This place is a rip off. I brought back never used, brand new U-Haul boxes to get refunded but was told that without the receipt, they could not give me money back. The boxes were bought about 3 months earlier and I was never told you had to have the actual receipt to get refunded. No doubt, they can put them back on the shelf and sell them full price. No doubt, they could look up the transaction on their cash register. However, they said they could not. Anyways, beware of buying boxes from U-Haul. Better to get them from Home Depot or elsewhere where they can refund even if you do not have the original receipt. read more

Purchased boxes, tape, and mattress covers for my move. Staff was friendly and helped me load my SUV with supplies. No upsale tactics. Just gave me what I asked for. There were a variety of sizes. Prices were comparable to other retailers. Warning: full size mattress cover was too small. I'd recommend getting the queen size. It fit both my full and queen sized mattresses. King and twin sizes fit fine. Colored tape they sell with room labeling was not effective and did not stick. I'd suggest purchasing standard packing tape they offer. read more

The associate tells me that all of the parts are on back order...they could have called me a week ago to let me. Now I have to find somewhere else to go before my trip on Friday. I had a horrible experience with this particular Uhaul moving experience. I reserved well in advance a 26 foot truck, tow dolly, utility dolly, furniture dolly, blankets, and several wardrobe boxes. When I arrived to pick up my truck and supplies I was told that they did not have the furniture dolly. I stated to the employee that I reserved the dolly so it should be there. What is the point of the reservation? They said they were out and could not guarantee even with a reservation that they would have one. They stated all other businesses in the area were already closed and I could not get a rental dolly from them. They offered to call another store 45 minutes away to see if they had one but by the time I would have driven there to get one I would have spent a great deal on gas for a problem that was not my doing. I was then unfortunately told that if I needed a furniture dolly that bad that they sold them there and I could buy one. I had reserved the dolly so that I could use it to move a piano, organ and other very large and heavy furniture so unfortunately I was pushed into a corner and had to purchase a dolly. I got what I needed and was on my way. My husband drove the truck home while i drove my car. As I was pulling on the street of my home I received a call from Uhaul telling me that they had forgotten to put my boxes that I had purchsed in the truck and that I would need to come back to get them if I wanted them. I turned around and drove the 20 minutes back to get my wardrobe boxes. I then went back home. I then proceeded to put the boxes together so I could begin packing the wardrobe boxes and realized immediately that the uhaul employees did not give me the metal bars that are a part of the wardrobe boxes and are absolutely necessary to hang the clothes. I called uhaul and they then said they would check to see if they had any bars and call me back. I then waited over an hour for a return call and there never was a call. So I went back to uhaul to inquire into the bars. I walked in and asked for the bars and they said they were out. I then asked why they would sell me boxes that didn't have all the parts needed to actually utilize them. Then then said they would check in the back to see if anyone had returned any. Luckily someone had and I was off again with my bars. I got home for the third time and went to finish putting the wardrobe boxes together and learned that the bars provided were to short and not the appropriate size. Mind you I did tell the employees at uhaul before leaving exactly what boxes I purchase and showed them my receipt to ensure I finally had exactly what I needed so I wouldn't have to make a fourth trip. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. They gave me the wrong size bars. So back in my car I went and back to Uhaul where I finally got the correct size bars. After several hours and four trips to uhaul I finally had all of the supplies I needed to pack and move. And during none of the fiasco did any of the staff at uhaul offer even a verbal apology for the inconvenience or repeated mistakes on their part. I never made a scene, I didn't scream and yell. I wasn't mean and hateful like so many people in this type of a situation might be so a simply apology would have been nice but I didn't even get that. I don't usually say I won't use a place every again, but after this experience I am pretty sure I am done with Uhaul. read more

The employees at this U-Haul were great (I believe the two guys that helped us were Samuel and Anthony). My boyfriend and I required assistance locating the storage locker that had been shipped there from Monterey, CA, and maneuvering the truck they rented to us with the trailer attached. Samuel and Anthony were great about advising us and even jumping in to drive the truck when we were having a hard time with it. I arranged for friends to help me and went to get the small UHaul trailer I had reserved 2 months prior. They didn't have one . Tried to give me a big trailer for the same price. Had to drive to Jeff City to get the right trailer. . Friends couldn't wait around that long so I had to develop a backup plan. The folks in Jeff City were awesome but the extra 30 miles, gas, and time were not in my plans. Worse yet, the folks at this Columbia location were flippant and rude. read more

Just awful. This is gonna be long....as it is a review on this site and UHaul customer service. Called to book a storage unit since they offered a free month when you rent a trailer/truck and we currently had another unit at this site. They took our reservation, acknowledged the free month & we headed that way. Then got a call from a non-UHaul facility confirming our reservation with them. Confused we called UHaul again....they had no idea about the other facility & now said they had no open units. Since we were in the middle of a move, we went ahead with this new reservation. Not being connected to UHaul, they don't offer the free month. Went to UHaul for an explanation & reimbursement, and they said they don't reimburse & still had no clue why we got sent to another site, despite the fact that they sent us a UHaul confirmation email with the other site name listed! GM said he had no ability to do anything, including offer that free month rent to the separate unit we had at UHaul. Just gave me a traffic number to call...got passed around on that call until a guy told me he'd have to look into it & would call me back. 1 week passed, no callback....so I called again. Went through the same story again, got passed around, until a lady said it was very unusual and that she'd have to look into it, but promised a callback. 1 week passed, no callback. Went back to the UHaul site with my free month certificate to simply ask that we apply it our our next month's rent on our first unit. GM said he couldn't do that because it only applies to 1st month (nowhere on the certificate does it say this), so then he said they don't accept these certificates (we just used one on our previous unit, received by renting a truck). He said all he could do was give me a different number to call. Called and explained my story all over again, because no one had taken notes to this point. The service rep seemed really stumped on why this had happened and said that her manager would call me back. I asked if she could promise a callback....her response: "I can't promise that". Several days passed....no callback. Went to the UHaul website as the phone had failed me multiple times & chatted with a service rep. Explained story over again, because of course, still no notes have been taken. She helped file a complaint & said if no one calls you in 3 days, call this number...one that I've already called before. Now my bill is do on the first unit that I was hoping to apply my free month to....the GM told me to wait until I get a resolution, so I called him to tell him the status & ask if I should pay now. On hold for 10 minutes, then a guy tells me that the GM will call me back. Not gonna hold my breath on this one. read more
