I need a trailer hitch installed on my Highlander. I have a u-Haul hitch, I need it installed and the electrical harness installed so we can tow our utility trailer. It took effort to get this scheduled. Note that when I made the appointment, it began online. There were 2 harnesses to choose from. I have no idea which one to pick? Also, I had to pick I needed the hitch when I didn't. I already had a U-Haul hitch. So it wasn't actually possible to schedule exactly what I needed online do I called and talked to the national call center then the store. This was unusual since I had a U-Haul hitch, so I only needed the installation and wiring harness. They installed the hitch but no wiring harness. Ugh. So frustrating. So now I am stuck here another hour. They apparently had to remove a splash guard in order to attach the hitch. They threw it in the back of the Highlander with no explanation what it was and why it wasn't put back on the vehicle. So I had to bring it inside and ask.... Frustrating. I told the person behind the counter that their communication to the customer needed work. When completed, I tested the wiring harness in one of their trailers before I left. Yesterday, my husband and I rented a van from this U-Haul location. Our Kiwanis club had a toy drive and we needed it to help with the toy collection. Anyhow, I set up the rental online, which was easy. I also went ahead and uploaded our driver's license information and that drastically helped when we went to pick up the van. Everything went smoothly in regards to picking up and dropping off the van. Here's where they lose a star. There was a sign that said masks were required to enter the store, but NONE of the employees were wearing a mask. This was concerning to my husband and me. We wiped the van down on the inside to make sure it was clean. I'm not sure if I'd rent from this location again. I'd prefer one of the locations closed to my home if they vehicle I need. read more

The truck was not ready for rental. I have rented numerous times from Uhaul and until yesterday had absolute trust in their equipment. Not any more. The console was falling off the the truck. You could not put a cup in the holder without it falling all over the place. Believe me, I found out the hard way. The ramp would not hook to the back of the truck. This made the advantage of renting from Uhaul null and void. I had to work much harder to get the stuff in and out of the truck. The instrument panel did not have lights on the oil gauge or the gas gauge. I had to use a cell phone to view them. I followed the strict instructions on refilling the truck only to be charged $8.50. I was at 5/8 of a tank as required. This process sucks as it is a judgement call that would be indisputable if the tank was refilled to full. Not easy when the lights do not work. No lock for the back lift door. Not sure who would be responsible if the dolly or blankets were stolen. I called the local Uhaul Pelham, AL location to voice these concerns. The young lady asked me what did she want me to do about it. I told her that if she did not know, I was talking with the wrong person. With employees like that, you are not going to go very far. She was not concerned about the situation or the fact that Uhaul did not live up to their part of the agreement. read more

Wish I could leave ZERO stars!!! My husband tried calling this business for three consecutive days. Multiple times each day. They would never answer the phone so he was forced to book a reservation online. He made the online arrangements a week before we needed the trailer. He chose Pelham as the pick up location and received an email confirmation stating the same. When he arrived for pick up he was told he had to pick up in Bessemer. When my husband tried to show him the email confirmation on his phone the employee refused to even look at the phone. I don't know if this is a company problem or an employee problem but we advise you to use Chico's in Alabaster instead of this Uhaul rental location. read more

I rented a U-Haul truck and I was moving out of Montevallo,Al. The U-Haul door was jammed and I was trying to fix it myself but couldn't so I called uhaul's roadside assistance for help. They told me they can't help me and they only offer assistance for jump starters, out of gas, etc. I told the roadside guy I can't ride down the road with the door up but he didn't care. I called Pelham U-Haul over 3 times and nobody answered the phone, only phone recordings were talking and I was on hold for over 15 mins. Eventually a friend came over and helped with the U-Haul door but at the end of the day nobody assisted me. read more

What a disaster. Our delivery was delayed due to a payment problem at Corporate -- no fault of ours, but our delivery was auto-rescheduled. Four phone calls were required to reschedule delivery back to the original time. For most calls, the local staff did nothing but transfer us to other offices or to managers -- sometimes to the wrong people! Ultimately had to visit store in person just to verify delivery. AVOID UHAUL! The price difference is not worth the hassle. read more

We rented a van last night and my daughter left her earbuds in it. We returned it last night and didn't realized we had left them. I called this morning and got an outside agent which stinks. Then I finally went to the place and the girl was really rude behind the counter. Didn't really listen to me and just said how busy they had been all day. And said that the van had been rented out already. I asked if it had been cleaned or anything after us and she says "oh yeah we clean them all when they come back" I don't see how, when we returned it at 9pm, and it was gone that morning and you didn't even see the ear poss in the cup holder. We have never gotten good service from them. The "kids" running the office have no idea what customer service is. Ugh! read more

The general manager wouldn't rent the U-Haul truck to me because I didn't have my driver's license printed out. Alabama's DOT now issues an Apple wallet drivers license and a pdf of your temporary DL when you renew online, but that wasn't sufficient. Although, both are GOVERNMENT ISSUED IDENTIFICATION, I didn't argue and walked outside. If that's the policy, then that's fine. I understand they're are policies and procedures that must be abided by in business. Therefore, I had my sister rent the U-Haul for me under her name. The general manager had a very nasty and rude tone accompanied by accusative statements toward us, such as "I need to an alternative name and phone number of someone I can call to make sure you'll BRING MY TRUCK BACK." His actions weren't the issue, yet, his statement as to why he needed an alt. name and number was unnecessary and uncalled for. His customer service was disgraceful for this company's standards and values. This U-Haul location has my LOWEST recommendation of the Birmingham metro area because of the way my family and I were treated. read more

Would give 0 stars if an option. Used this company for five years for a storage unit. Moved out on the 8th of the month and they refused to prorate the month of November and refund the difference.
