The staff was nice but we will NEVER use U-Haul again. Renting from them has turned our lives upside down!!! Rented a faulty trailer and it caught on fire. And burned our car to a total loss. We even took out the extra insurance and all they paid us was $500 for a total loss vehicle and all of our belongings in it. We only got 63 miles down the road when this happened. They wouldn't even reimburse us for the rental! read more

This location was able to check me in after driving all day, unloading stuff in storage and finding the original drop off location didn't have after hours drop off, so thanks to the Uhaul team that got me set up to drop it off at another location. Easy and quick return. Lesson. Always ask to have your drop off location be an actual U-Haul moving in storage location. You will have way less problems. read more

Buckle up for this story! Imagine this. You rented out your first home. You've packed up a 26 foot U-Haul truck of everything you own, and head states away with your newborn and wife. On the way, you call and verify your reservation for your 20x11 storage unit. Yay, Chloe confirms, the U-Haul storage unit is ready and waiting for you. You arrive to find out that Chloe lied to you on the phone. They gave away our unit. Chloe's reasoning was that other people arrived before us earlier in the day and they gave it to those people. That it's not actually a reservation, and she can put us in a few closets that are up a flight of stairs and across a warehouse. We explained this would absolutely not work to fit our four bedroom house in. When those didn't work- PREPARE YOURSELF - she actually, (and no, this is not a joke) had us wait 30 mins and said she found something - omg yay! She took us the ten minute walk to a 10 x 15 unit, (which would fit about half of our 26 foot truck), but we were open to considering it- but ouch, "the only issue was that the door doesn't shut fully it stays like a foot off the ground so you can't lock it. The last person broke the door. But you can use zip ties to shut it! But somebody could walk by and cut them. Do you want it?" We just blank stared at her. She was dead serious. We said "you DO realize the product you are selling here, to every person, is a secure place to keep your belongings. THAT is the product you sell here. Hunny you should not work here." We called every U-Haul storage in the area looking for storage units. Every U-Haul in the one hour radius had nothing and they were doing NOTHING for us. Chloe offered an extra day to keep our things on the U-Haul truck. We told her we had already paid for tomorrow, but "of course you're going to give an extra day, Where are we going to offload our belongings? Your house? You QUITE LITERALLY have NOWHERE for us to put our things." Thank God for your competitors. WE PAID $600 for a storage unit. U-Haul made a lifetime impression on us. Just picture your wife and baby both crying in a U-Haul lobby with everything you own in a truck, and a 20-year-old girl telling you she's really sorry that you didn't come in for your "reservation" (that's not really a reservation) earlier. We had to keep all of our belongings on a truck overnight, and Pray no one stole our truck, or our desk or bikes strapped to the back. We were planning on using a U-Haul truck when we empty out our storage unit next month. Instead we have told 10 people today including all of our family members, to literally never use U-Haul if their life depended on it. There are ten more people from my job moving out over the next month. We told them all our story. U-Haul will literally screw you and leave you high and dry and tell you anything to get you to use their trucks. The whole promo for a free storage unit for a month is criminal. You're affecting peoples livelihoods and families with your business practices. It awful and unethical. Y'all should be ashamed of what you did to our family. read more

Have rented here three times in the past few months. It's very easy to do: you reserve on line, quick Covid safe pick up, and easy drop off including an after hours drop box. This most recent rental was a little less than desired for the simple reason that we got the van without it being cleaned from the last customer; the steering wheel was sticky & there was trash all over the back. This is not what you want to deal with especially during a highly contagious & deadly pandemic.We can clean & we did clean & disinfect the van before we drove it, no worries there. When we returned it we mentioned this to the female manager, simply as an FYI, and she was beside herself. You could tell she really cared that we had received a van in less than perfect condition. She said they strive for cleanliness and this was not acceptable at all. Her customer service was top notch and I had no doubt this would be swiftly addressed with her staff. Nobody or no company is perfect and what a breath of fresh air to have an issue resolved as wonderfully as they handled ours. Had an accident with locking my keys in the U-Haul truck at the center that night in Springfield, when returning it 10 hrs early. After 30+ minutes of waiting over the phone at the 1-800 # and not sure if I should call AAA to come out I thought surely they will call me to let me know if I need to have AAA come out or if the "Safe Move" insurance doesn't cover this particular accident. Fast forward, I didn't get a call --only an 82 dollar charge listed as a "cleaning fee". This charge could have been avoided had I been able to communicate with a U-Haul rep. After speaking with Craig, he apologized for the way the situation was handled from the start and said they will do better next time! I am beyond happy with the fact that he was humble and wanted to do right by us. Will be giving this center another chance, and next time will just send AAA out when needed. read more

If I could give U-Haul a zero, I would. After another price increase (so many over a 1.5 year period), I finally take my things out of the unit. There are rodent feces in the back of the unit. I'm expected to use my broom to sweep up that crap! Disgusting! To top it off, another price increase had taken effect. I was about 1.5 weeks into the month. I asked if I would get reimbursed for the rest of the month and the answer is a stern no. However, they get to rent out the unit immediately. Criminal. I hope this business goes under, but it probably won't because they're always suckering people in with a supposed deal, and then they proceed to suck you financially dry with their many rent increases. First, I wanted to say the staff who cheked me in was friendly, fast, and effecient. Second, I was impressed that the Ford Cargo Van provided to me was brand new and very clean! The Ford Cargo van had all of the space I needed and drove very well! Lastly, I would like to take the time to say that the Staff at the Springfield U-Haul location went above and beyond to be helpful and accomidating to me. Admitly I was a little bit late returning the van and they were easy going about it. More importantly, however, I had left a small bag of house keys in the van when I turned it in, and the staff worked very hard to find the missing bag of house keys, and called me as soon as they found them, and returned them to me promptly! read more

I had a wonderful experience at this U-Haul location and I highly recommend! I placed an online order for almost $400 worth of moving supplies for pickup (lots and lots of boxes). They truly have everything you could possibly need for your move. When I arrived to the location to pick up my order, I quickly realized that everything would not fit into my Camry. The employees were super kind and helpful. They even figured out a way to get everything to fit - trust me, it wasn't easy! I highly recommend this location. read more

Been here twice now and both times I was completely satisfied. The last time I did have an issue with my reservation because the truck I wanted didn't show up. Not really their fault since the guy who rented it before me didn't show up on time. But they gave me a discounted rate for a smaller truck but as I was walking out to get the truck a bigger one ended up coming back. So I took that one and still got discounts so that was nice. Since this was in the pandemic, they really cleaned the cabins and disinfected everything. Just do the ordering stuff online and pick it up, it's faster. read more

I recently had a hitch installed on my Toyota Highlander and also purchased a hitch-style bike rack. The workmanship for the hitch installation was fantastic and the customer service for the bike rack purchase was outstanding. Unfortunately, I discovered a week later when I tried to use the bike rack for the first time that I didn't like the style I had chosen. Ryan was fantastic in working with me during the return process. He also matched the price of a bike rack offered by a different vendor. Awful service. Called four days ago to to schedule install of wire kit for trailer. They were out of stock and could not get the kit for 10 day. They suggested I order it online and they would install for $90. I got the kit in two days and called to schedule install. They said it would be $251 to install a, "Third party part." I talked to GM, Delanie, and got price reduced as a, "One time exception." Brought vehicle in when told to and let them know I was waiting for it, as I had no other vehicle. I was told I was next and it would be an hour or a little more. I called after 1.5 hours and they hadn't even started the install. It was going to be another 1.5 hours. RODENT FECES FOUND!!! Future or Current Customers of U-Haul Moving & Storage in Springfield, VA location, you should consider leaving. Inside our storage unit, we found rodent feces. This indicates the facility has a rodent problem. Furthermore, a U-Haul employee broke our glass shelves while investigating our unit. So far, they have been non-responsive with the claim. We provided the U-Haul facility managers with various quotes for the glass shelves and they have been non-responsive for over a week. After cleaning our storage unit out, there is a large crack between the back wall and concrete floor (this probably explains how a rodent got inside our storage unit). After this discovery, we booked a U-Haul truck to move out of the storage unit. Turns out, the U-Haul representative on the phone double booked our moving truck, which left us without a U-Haul moving truck that day. Luckily, our movers had a moving truck which solved the truck issue. Overall, our experience with the U-Haul encompassed rodent feces, double-booking and cancellation of our moving truck, and non-responsive emails regarding the claim has been a perfect example of horrible, irresponsible, and negligent customer service. The only positive aspect was that U-Haul provided us replacement boxes and paper filler at the facility. U-Haul also allowed us to use their on-site dumpster due to the rodent issues. Conclusion: We will no longer be U-Haul customers. There are plenty of other storage and moving options out there. Rating: U-Haul storage and moving facility at Springfield, VA deserves a low score on Yelp. read more

I drove three hours just to find out that they gave my storage unit to another person earlier in the day. I had my reservation and credit card with them and was appalled to find out I had no place for my deceased husbands treasures. I had to go to another company. I not sure if the young adults inside needs more training or the people on the phone. This should not have happened and no I will not refer them to anyone. I reserved a cargo van for sunday at 7 am with plans to visit several places and pick up furniture. The key code I was given via the uhaul phone web app was incorrect, it didn't unlock the van, and I had to wait until the place opened at 8 to get the problem fix. But when it did open, they did everything they could to make it right. Ryan did a phemomenal job of fixing the situation and making sure I was able to do all the moving I had to do. Before he helped me out I was planning to give a 1 star review; after, I'm giving a 4 star review. read more

I made a 10am reservation for a 2" hitch installation plus wiring. I paid ahead of time and when I showed up it was a very smooth transaction and they immediately took my car into the garage to start working. They told me it'd be done no later than 3pm. I make it home and realize I forgot my house keys attached to my car key fob! I make it back at noon to pick up my house keys and they were already done. They did an awesome job and the hitch couldn't have been more perfect. I'll be coming back for sure. read more

the first time I called to pick up my box, I was put on hold for over 15 minutes and had to hang up. A couple of days later, I got through and arranged to pick up my box. When I arrived, it took over an hour in the store - they had charged me last week, and were trying to charge me again. After straightening that out, I waited at my vehicle for over 15 minutes for someone to come tell me which box was mine. they then tried to give me the wrong box (this was one was white and metal, mine was orange and canvas sides). I had to wait again for the guy to go retrieve my box. the owner came out for my ID while waiting and I explained everything to him. he was rude and abrasive. it's now been an hour and I hope I get my box soon. will not be coming back. read more

When a business does an outstanding job, I believe they should be acknowledged. Today I had a trailer hitch installed on my car and U-haul did everything right. They were expecting me when I got there, they had the right parts, and they got me in and out of there in 45 minutes. The staff there was courteous and professional as well. Have no clear idea of this business. Spent 2 hours attempting to get through to them on Monday during work hours 703 962 1241- no luck. Corporation has now set up a voicemail / answering service, that leaves customers waiting - until they give up and look for competition. Does no good to try other U-Haul locations in the area 571 - 635 - 8013 - all telephones go to the same unresponsive system. The Corporate HQ MBA type who thought up great way to save money - lowering personnel costs, but incidentally driving away customers - should be held personally responsible for damage to customer base. As next cost cutting idea, he/she should be thanked and excused. read more

So color me a little bit surprised, but I actually had an absolutely fantastic experience working with these guys! They're tucked back in an industrial park area right off of Braddock Rd near the beltway ramp, and the guys who run this office are really great -- friendly, helpful, and patient. The rental reservation process online was very smooth, and when I called to confirm the pick-up there was really no need for me to have done so, they already had everything squared away. Picking up the truck was equally easy -- I just hopped in, signed a few things, and drove away happily. Well, okay, maybe not so much "happy" as "terrified", FYI, as driving a giant truck is NOT the same as driving a Ford Focus. Speaking of my Ford Focus, since I was picking up the truck by myself, I was very concerned about what to do with my car. Ultimately I figured that after I had loaded all the stuff into the truck that I needed to for my event, I would call a friend to take me back to the U-Haul office to retrieve it. Well, the managers who work here were also very nicely concerned about my car as well! They told me that they were absolutely fine with my leaving it in the lot as long as I was comfortable, but that they close at 8 PM and, while they have cameras, they are new to this location and thus not too sure about what would happen overnight. Well, as it happens, I was too tired and too rushed to end up picking my car up before my event anyway, but when I got back there the next morning, there were no issues. And the nicest part is that the U-Haul guys honestly didn't seem to mind that I left it there overnight. They even said they checked it when they got in that morning to make sure nothing had happened to it. My only negative is that I rented the truck for 20 hours (the maximum allowed on their website), and so I technically had it until 9:45 AM the next morning. However, I guess they had another person reserve it at 10 AM, so they said I needed to return it by the latest at 7 or 8 AM. Which was fine, it's kind of whatever, but since 9:45 was printed on my receipt, I just wish I hadn't felt so rushed to get the truck back (since I still had to use it to transport some things that morning.) Still, overall, I had a really positive experience with U-Haul and I'll definitely be renting from this location again in the future if I ever need to! read more

I called the one on Bruns Lane. They scheduled a truck for me. Moving help cancelled so I called back to cancel order. They put me on hold and did not return as well. read more

Rented a small truck from them over the weekend. The truck looked new and was in very good condition on the inside (somewhat banged-up on the outside). The truck was ready for me when I got there since I reserved it using their website. I only had to wait for one person ahead of me. After I returned it, I realized I left something in the truck and they were able to find it and give it back to me. read more

I've rented trucks and trailers from this location for quite sometime now. A good friend of mine needed a small tough trailer to pick up a motorcycle out of town. Trailer had a tough shell and was great, wish they'd sell them! Staff wasn't very assertive or friendly, but while we were inside we learned that U-Haul actually installs factory correct trailer hitches and does hitch wiring as well. They were cheaper then the dealer and has us in and out within an hour for the install. If you have a mechanical or technical question, ask to speak to a mechanic from the back. Front of house is a little less then informed, and the yard staff barely speaks English, and were a little odd. All and all. good job! read more

Last year I gave a very good review of this U-Haul center based on a good experience. They consistently have good vehicles and last year the customer service was top notch. Today I rented a van. They have a massive building and would not bring the van to me, I had to walk several hundred feet to get it. They were too busy to do a review of van conditions, even though I saw a large chip out of the windshield. They said not to worry about it. A larger concern arose when I returned the van. I used the guide shown in the contract to add the correct amount of fuel. This wouldn't have been necessary but they rent out vehicles with 7/8 tank full, 13/16, etc. Why not fill your tanks? FAVIO checked me in. He studied the fuel gauge for a long time. They have you park facing uphill and it drops the gauge down. It was a fuzz under 7/8 and he says it's 13/16, I need to pay $12 for that. WHAT?? I return to the gas station and fill to well over what I owe. MY GREATEST CONCERN - when I came back I was being checked in by someone else. There was a van in front of me and a truck to the right so I had to pull into the line at a slight angle. While I'm standing outside the van talking to a NICE employee, FAVIO pulls a 24 foot truck a foot next to me at high speed, which almost killed me and physically blocked me in. I confront FAVIO about it, asking if he wants to kill customers. He says "You parked your van wrong and I had to do that". HE HAD 15 FEET AVAILABLE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF HIS TRUCK. this is in regard to the UHaul Box process: Not a huge fan, and thankful I no longer need these services. This is a large facility, and from the countless phone calls I've made to this location, every call and I mean every call, was routed to the UHaul general call center with either "short staffed," or "busy personnel," or "time of day" which made relaying information directly to the location frustrating. Email communication is returned within a day, but waiting a day is too long when you need answers. What I've learned through this UHaul box process is: 1. You must call one day in advance when you need access to your UHaul box, 2. Monthly fees from one state to another continue, which wasn't communicated at the time I reserved my box, 3. Nag, and I mean nag, for your closing bill in writing. Like I said, communication directly to this location via telephone is extremely difficult. When sending an email, mark your email Urgent for a response. Good luck. read more

Don't do business with a company that doesn't live up to its promises. I reserved a truck with a utility dolly, furniture dolly and pads. I also bought a furniture dolly- all to move a piano. Then when we arrived, there was not a furniture dolly to be had (even though I had already paid for the furniture dolly we purchased two days prior and it said it was ready for in store pickup.). We had had such a good experience before, but never again will we use this U-haul. read more

Made a reservation on Oct 2nd for a 10 foot truck and a towing dolly for Nov 13th. On Nov 12th they called and said we don't have what you need. They sent me 40 min out to get what i need. What's the point of making a reservation at the location that i need it at if they are not going to hold it and have what i need. It reminds me of a Seinfeld episode. Terrible U-haul office. Great service. Haven't really had a bad experience at a uhaul, but this was above average. I was turning in one rental of a trailer and picking up another one. There was an error in the paperwork that I didn't notice and I was supposed to return it 2 days ago. He didn't actually have to accept it however he didn't make me pay extra. And then when I got the new trailer he did the paperwork very quickly and actually went out there too hook up the trailer and make sure I did it correctly. Then he I asked me if I needed assistance hooking my motorcycle up. He also gave me a few tips for my travels and was just a nice person to talk to in general. No other trailers that I have picked up from U Haul I just told here it is and I go get it myself which isn't an issue because I know how to but beside the point. It just felt like he went the extra step to make sure I was good to go. read more

Rented out a pickup truck for 1 hour and my estimated driven miles was 30 miles. When I returned the vehicle they were busy and could not check the truck out right away and said will email the final receipt when they were complete. I received a email about the bill after 3 hours later with additional charge for $10 saying I went and drove over 10 miles more. Ridiculous! because I started a trip odometer when I left the parking lot of U-hall and total mileage was just under 29 miles. I don't see a mistake but a ripoff, BEWARE of this place. People, double check your mileage and gas tank before you leave the parking lot!!! read more

I had to return a truck to this location after a one way rental. The man who checked it in refused to acknowledge the customer service note that the gas tank was half full at pick up, as well as acknowledgement from the center where I rented the truck that it should be set at half. He charged me for the half tank and told me it was my responsibility to get a refund from the origin center. Terrible customer service means no future business. read more

After spending 20 minutes unsuccessfully attempting to secure a truck rental through the Uhaul website (as the website kept crashing), I made a last-ditch call on a Friday to find a truck rental for a Saturday. Yes, I was fully aware that for a last-minute attempt, it would not be easy or likely to find a truck for the next day, let alone a Saturday. However, the move has to happen. I inquired over the phone whether the gentleman who answered could help me find any 10' tuck or larger. Not surprisingly, he said "No," there was nothing available. Since the website was still not running properly, I further inquired if he could point me to somewhere that might have one, even if it was not from the the Springfield location. He declined, simply stating: "No, there is nothing available." Without even taking the second to look in his system, (which probably would have been much quicker on his end then mine) he continued on to say in a patronizing tone: "There won't be any other trucks available anywhere else in the area tomorrow either." Little did I know it would be such a strain for him to do his job. My response was of course: "Thank you for your help, good night." Within five minutes of ending this call, my truck rental was secured (20' truck at that) from the Chantilly location, pick-up the next MORNING at 10:30am. Now, I'll give this gentleman at the Springfield location the benefit of the doubt; it's a Friday, odds are low of finding a truck, and maybe it's been a long week. I've worked my fair share in retail, and it can be a drag I know, but for goodness sake...take the 2 SECONDS to look in the system instead of immediately brushing off a potential customer. Even if the search were to yield no results, I would have held them in higher regard if they had taken the time to TRY. Perhaps this was an isolated experience that not many people have encountered at this location. Regardless, you won't be getting my business, nor will I recommend anyone to your location in the future. read more

Came here for my move even though it was out of the way because they're one of the best reviewed truck rentals shops on the area. Definitely worth it. Everything was perfect. If you're moving, I think it's worth your while to use this place even if it's a bit far from you. You don't need the added stress of your truck not being ready. read more

Honestly I cant speak highly enough of these guys. After a previously horrid U-Haul experience with another location I figured I'd try this one instead. From the reservation to the check out to the return everything was flawless. The manager assisted me with the rental and he was as nice as he could be. No hidden charges and in and out in 5 minutes. Then, upon return, I arrived almost 30 minutes before they opened. As I pulled in an employee was walking up and assisted me with the return without complaining they weren't open yet. U-Haul- this is the model location of what your business should be. The one in Falls Church should be ashamed of themselves when compared to this location. Nice work!
