Good Czech food (I think- from what little we Americans know about Czech food...) and fun pub atmosphere (complete with a pub tale about the rope maker's wife). The smoke was pretty bad sometimes- we heard there was a nonsmoking room in the back, but it was full. The male server was nice. read more

Flew in from Paris, took a cab to my hotel, checked in, dropped off my luggage, and hit the streets to find something to eat. Decided to go to a highly rated place on yelp even though it was a decent little walk. After a 15 minute walk and a couple propositions from prostitutes, I made it there. Unfortunately, they were booked for a while and recommended making reservations next time. So it's 7 in the evening and I haven't eating since my small hotel breakfast in Paris earlier that morning. It's safe to say I'm starving and need a big man meal and multiple beers to shake me back. So I start venturing around and come across this place. I walk in grab a table and in the bar area despite the cigarette smoke. What do I order, a roast pig leg, that's right, a caveman meal for a hungry man. You might think I'm lying but I ate the whole thing, except the bone. The meat was so tender and juicy, the cartilage was soft as butter and as flavorful as fat. I think I blacked out while eating this meal and my more primal instincts took over while I devoured this magically meaty masterpiece. Something about meat and beer that can make a man truly happy. After having a wonderful experience at U Parlimentu we read the reviews and someone remarked that this place was better. It's not. (At least not in my humble opinion). The food, service and prices were nothing to write home about. Our waitress displayed the usual Eastern European disdain and neglected to tell us that the meal we were ordering contained most of the side dishes we were ordering as extras. It wasn't mentioned on the menu that these sides were included and it was obvious we were over ordering, but she said nothing. The meat was ok,( the duck was very dry) and the white sauerkraut so sour it was unpalatable. The red sauerkraut was very good, which somewhat made up for it as did the dumplings which were good, the ones with onion and bacon excellent, as were the boiled potatoes. The snitzel (and I am becoming a connoisseur of snitzel as my kids love it) was very thin, dry and average. The one at U Parlimentu was much better. The best I've tasted (so far!). This place is ok. Not great, not bad but the best thing going for it is its central location, not the food or service. read more

Nice food and a fun atmosphere. I ended up there thanks to other Yelp reviews - thank you Yelp Community. We were seated in the rear nonsmoking area, which was populated with a mix of locals and tourists. It's a communal table arrangement if you're a small party, and we shared a table with a nice German couple. The starter special, a cheese spread served with toasted rye bread, was very good. I enjoyed my pork main course, which was served with potato dumplings (yummy) and sauerkraut (too sweet for my taste). My other half had the sirloin, which was average. We were looking for a place to eat lunch. The reviews of this place were all positive so we decided to try it. This was a big mistake! When entering the restaurant the servers looked at us dismissively and started whispering behind our back. We had to wait 10 minutes until we finally got a menu (even tough they obviously saw us coming in). Other guests (probably czechs), who entered after us were served before us. We wanted to order 4 portions of french fries (for 2people). The server told us that it was not possible to only order side dishes (which is okey for us but was nowhere stated on the menu (additionally we have been to several restaurants in prague where it was no problem to order only french fries)). The thing that threw us off was the way she told us. "You can go to McDonalds instead!" was her impolite response with a complacent grin. So we decided to leave! This restaurant may be good if you speak czech but as a tourist I would 10/10 NOT recommend!! read more

Good pub with good food. The sausages were great. The service was a little brusque but after all it is a pub.

The traditional Goulash and the Chicken Skewers were both delicious. We also added the roast potatoes with bacon and onions and, together, it was plenty of food to fill two hungry men after a several hour walk around the city. With a bottle of water and a refreshing Pilsner, and tax and service charges, the total was about 500kc (at the time, 25USD). I definitely recommend it. read more

Right inside the tourist ghetto you will find this hidden restaurant. Its at the bottom fo V. square and it is worth a visit. In the summer there is a garden in front, or a big non smoking room in the back :) read more

Based on the Yelp reviews I tried this place. Food was good and prices were very reasonable for the portion size. The service was lackluster. Waiter seem like he would rather be somewhere else. I tried the svickova and it was good. Portion of meat is small, but as I said it matched the price. If you find yourself near try it out, but I wouldn't make a special effort. read more

4.5 star- Food was delicious. Hubby had pork with mustards and horseradish. It was a big meal, but very good! I had beef goulash with dumplings and it was tasty! We both had the dark Kostel beer and we both liked it. Ok service, not rude and efficient. We enjoyed laughing at the decorative drawings on the wall. Picked it because Rick Steves recommended in the Prague guide and glad we tried it. We would go back! read more

Thanks for treating me like shit! A very nice welcome in the city of Prague. I wanted to have dinner outside around 9pm, but all tables were full (there was no AC on the inside so it was hot like hell). So I entered to ask if there was a beer garden or something. First waiter: replied to my "hello!" and my smile with a sort of grunt and left me standing there like an idiot. No question asked. No "may I help you?". Nothing. Second waitress: I had to go to her by myself because no one was giving a s**t about me standing there. I smiled, I greeted her, and I asked if there were any other seats outside. She replied in a very annoyed fashion, with a mocking sing-song voice: "I don't have special eyes to see outside from here. Why don't YOU tell me if there are seats left outside, since you came from the outside?". I shook my arms and I left. Very few times I've felt so mortified and offended. Thanks a lot. read more

Worst meal we've had in Prague! My husband had roast pork with potato dumplings and sauerkraut. I had smoked pork and potato pancakes. Both were inedible. There are so many better Czech restaurants with better beer in Prague. Best I can say for it is that we had room for an ice cream cone at Svetozor in Lucerna Gallery because we didn't eat our lunch. read more

A classic Czech pub with pretty good food (including seasonal specials, like goose on St. Martin's Day) and efficient service. And, perhaps most surprising, reasonable prices just a stone's throw from Vaclavak. Plus, there's the story of the ropemaker who used to run the place, and whose wife took it over when he went away for work, and made a success of it by offering a little something extra to patrons - herself. When he returned and heard about her carryings-on, he strangled her in the basement with rope he made himself. They say her ghost walks the rooms at night, after the place is closed. Thus the very odd decor (and why my friends and I called it "The Slut".) A great place for tourists and locals to mix, and a GREAT pint of Gambrinus. The only real drawback are that some of the tables are stupidly tall and have the really high chairs that many people fall off of when drunk. Which can be amusing, if it isn't you. Nice tip: they do a meat and cheese platter that is the perfect thing for feeding jet-lagged visitors. That, plus a few beers. read more

Great pub atmosphere , very inexpensive to eat and drink quality beer . More locals then tourists and in a good location . We had a party of 8 and we're seated quickly in the back , we sampled all the different soups and dishes and they were all excellent, big portions at reasonable prices . Highly recommend if you want hearty local food and beer, expect some noise but we were never rushed read more

Great find. Delicious food and fresh beer, all for a really really decent price. Vegetarian choices available, alongside full variety of pork& beef dishes. The tavern is just a few steps off the main street but is more popular with locals than with tourists. Ask for the daily specials for an even better bargain. read more
