    Beef goulash and dumplings
    June G.

I loved the goulash and dumplings and the service was fast!! I've been to places where "dumplings" are just bread slices. These were soft and wonderful dumpling slices. I will admit I haven't had a ton of Czech food as I have only spent 10 days in the country, so I'm not a man expert, but I think this place is the real deal.

U Provaznice's service is probably consider rude in US standard, but their food is spectacular. And their price is fair. The Pork Knckle is 479CZK at a tourist place near by and U offered around 279 CZK I came here 3 times during my stay and every time their food is beyond wonderful. If I'm in Prague again, this is the place I would eat again.

A rather plain looking pub from the outside, you'd be surprised to find rustic gold walls with a wood and brick interior inside. I loved the warm atmosphere right off the bat. We stumbled upon this pub hidden in one of the alleyways near Wenceslas Square. All the outside benches were taken by what look like to be thirsty locals on a hot day in May and understandably so: reasonable beer prices and they offer Pilsner Urquell, Gambrinus and dark Kozel. Good beers! We filled our tummies with delicious garlic soup, sirloin steak and potatoes and traditional Czech specialties like tenderloin in cream sauce and cranberries as well as pork fillets with spinach. All the meat bingeing got me craving for a healthy salad with pan seared trout and it was just what I needed. A great pick for Czech food in a very touristy part of town.

We actually made an effort to find this place on the recommendation of someone who had actually lived in Prague and painted a picture of a cozy tavern that locals frequented. We were not disappointed, and this place is family friendly for lunch! A win in my book. What really got me excited about this place was its utter lack of pretension, the wait staff were efficient and somewhat accommodating to special requests, but what was impressive was their professionalism in getting you in, serving you a really good value meal, making sure you were comfortable and then getting you out on time without actually resorting to the usual ham-handedness or being surly. Ok, more about that good value meal...when I say good value, I mean that the food was of excellent quality, served very promptly and portioned to provide excellent value. This was top notch bar grub and I loved every quotidian morsel of it!! I would personally recommend the pork and the duck, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Of course, wash everything down with a good sized mug of Pilsner Urquell, the very reason we call beer pilsners in the first place! I have to say, U P, you got your hooks in me good and the next time I'm in Praha, I'm making the trek to you even if it kills me!

I've been here 4 times total. Twice during my first visit to Prague and twice on my latest, which should tell you something. Good food, good service, good prices. Be aware that there is a nice non-smoking room in the back. Delicious pork knee!

Amazing atmosphere and great food. Even though it is in the perfect centre and probably tourists orientated, it offers great value and stellar performance - no surprises here. I got the ribs, but wasn't overly impressed by them. Maybe its the recipe, but I have eaten far better ones.

Not an easy place to find when you have my fabulous sense of direction! Located part way up an alley. Not inviting on the outside. A few picnic tables on the street. Don't let that stop you. We had a beer and shared the dinner for two. It's a dinner for three easily. Sadly we had to leave the chicken and most of the ham. OMG. The food is great. Sausage, roast chicken, pork and ham are the protein. Sauerkraut, red cabbage and three kind of dumplings. That and a bowl of gravy. It was sooo good. Service was quick and efficient. Sit outside and people watch. Reasonable prices.

To begin with, the service was largely indifferent. The waitress barely spoke to us, we found our own way to our table and the follow up service was lackluster. Skip the bacon dumplings, they are basically old bread with tiny pieces of ham. The goulash was mediocre however the baked cheese in potato shell was quite tasty. Prague is crawling with places that have excellent goulash so no worries. The place is large and has outdoor seating so that's a plus on hot days.

    Meal for 2- very good

Good food. Large menu. Large portions. Quick. Prices decent. We shared the combo that feeds 2. Meat was a bit dry but everything tasted good. We definitely would return. Great location also!

The non-smoking room in the back with a wonderful character.

A beautiful, surprising find in the old town. Serving good filling traditional Czech food and by staff who are happy and multilingual. We had the pork with bread and potato dumplings which was lovely and remarkably good value. Along with a half litre of dark Kozel, it made for a great inexpensive first meal in Prague.

Good pub with good food. The sausages were great. The service was a little brusque but after all it is a pub.

How can you not try a place with a name like that? Saw the bras hanging as we walked in, made me chuckle. We were seated right away, in a small room with a fair amount going on. I picked the Jim Morrison along with the fries and lovely K had the Janis Joplin, also with fries. Both choices were a very good sized portion with a good amount of fries. The JM stated it's spicy, and it was indeed so. The JJ is also a good sized portion, but it had too much going on for K. What really let the meal down was the fries. They were not hot, and had been cooked too long. The outside was crispy with a good crunch, but the interior was not what we were looking for. Could have been epic with nice fries, but they missed the mark by just a bit.
