I only needed to mail a small package and I had no idea what first class postage would cost. The counter person was personable and asked perfunctory questions. I was in and out. Maybe because of COVID and a pending snowstorm, people had other places to be. I like the old brick building. There is ample ( more than necessary) unlike the new Silver Spring post office near me, which has no parking lot.

But today, I won't leave the parking lot until I do. I've been coming to this location for a couple years now and NINO is the best postal worker I've ever encountered. I made it a point to look at his name tag today so I could address him properly from now on. I'm sorry that it took this long. Nino is super pleasant, great attitude, and willing to assist to get your items shipped the best and most efficient way possible!! I appreciate that as other post offices I've visited don't give you options unless you ask. Thank you Nino for your excellent customer service. I need you to stay here forever!

Rainier and the NICEST man told me he'd be happy to help out. I rented a car to go and headed across state lines. The same man was at the desk and was helping a young lady with the paperwork for her first passport. He was so patient and kind with her, even though there was a line of folks waiting. It's rare to see someone help someone else out not just because they have to but because they care--this gentleman definitely went above and beyond in making her comfortable with what she needed to do to get her paperwork in order and to set her at ease. Honestly, this also made waiting in line so much more bearable; she was worth his time. Once he got to me, he not only remembered my call from the day before but was excited to hand cancel my envelopes. This just made my day. I love getting snail mail, and I reaaaally love wax seals, so it was important to me that the invitations to my wedding have wax seals. Was anyone going to die if these were ruined? No. Was it important to me? Yes. This man treated my seals like they were important to him, too. And, even though we handed them over to him Saturday, folks in New York already had their invites the next Monday, which is crazy fast. Letters aren't dead, folks, and the caring folks at your local post office like this guy are what is keeping hand-written notes and heartfelt letters (and wax seals!) going.

They lie about attempting to make package deliveries and also about you, the receiver of the package requesting it to be held at the facility. A bold and dumb lie. Some of these young low seniority employees at this place are pitiful. One day, if they don't get fired first, they will have the seniority, maturity and seriously care about the level of service they provide. They would then have the ability to choose a better work location. I'd have an attitude and scheme to avoid my work as well if I worked in a warm raisin box 5-6 days a week. You must crawl before you walk. Some folks really know the reason they're working for the USPS and the fill ins are struggling to get it. I appreciate my regular carrier to the fullest. When I returned 25 minutes later exactly as instructed, she abruptly claimed she was unable to ship the package and responded with an unnecessarily rude, dismissive attitude instead of taking accountability for the misinformation she gave me. The lack of communication and unnecessary attitude completely changed what had otherwise been a positive experience. Customer service should not make people feel like an inconvenience for following the exact instructions they were given.

I've had less than friendly encounters there before, but today took the cake. I walked into a dark room 15 minutes after they opened. I stood there for a few minutes while a woman was on her phone talking to her friend, dropping f-words like commas. An alarm went off, she walked by me, completely ignored me, shut it off, and slammed a door. Finally she took a break to tell me they were closed. I asked "Didn't you open at 11?" She snapped, "Yeah, well, I got here late." They're only open 5 hours a day. If you can't put on a fake customer service smile for 5 hours in a mostly empty location, maybe you're not ready for a job in customer service.
