But what if, instead of those pleas echoing from the vocal chords of an island castaway, they were delivered matter-of-factly from one of the many soon-to-be-satisfied patrons of the U.S. Post Office located at 10901 Rhode Island Ave. in Beltsville, Maryland? First, we would lose all manner of suspense in the lyrics credited to Sting; and, second, the narrator's devastating visual discovery of "a hundred billion bottles washed up on the shore," signifying that he's "not alone in being alone," would never have happened, because the bottle, carefully sent via USPS, would have reached its intended destination within the relayed projected time.

I spoke with a staff member who was Asian, I'm sorry I didn't get his name but he was so helpful in answering my questions and explaining the process. I was impressed and appreciative. I went back today with my documents and a young lady named Shawnte assisted me. OMG, she was so pleasant and helpful, she patiently took care of my documents and gave clear instructions, at the same time assisted other customers just as efficiently and friendly as she did me. It is refreshing to receive this type of service AGAIN! I have gone to several USPS locations in Rockville, Bethesda, Kensington, College Park and now Beltsville. I have to say the service and tone of this Beltsville location is superior than the others. I say it's refreshing because in today's world the type of service we receive is horrible. It's absolutely horrible to call any business for assistance and receive appropriate service. We're lucky to get a person on the phone and one who can actually resolve the issue. Thank You Beltsville USPS!! You're doing something right !!

The one place I really hate to go is the post office. If I have my mail delivered to my apartment I…read morereally do not want to go to the post office unless it is a dire emergency. That's how I ended up here. My work decided that they were going to send me my first paycheck via snail mail instead of direct depositing it. Odd. I go to my mailbox and there is no paycheck, instead there was a slip left stating that they "attempted" to deliver it to me. OK, how did you go about this? See, I work from home a few days a week, especially on Fridays when, say, a paycheck would arrive. My work area is not far from my door and not a single knock occurred the whole eight hours I was working from home. Who did you attempt to deliver this to? Were you in the right building, right floor, right door? I get my slip and now have to figure out where the post office even is. Pull in here and it's one of those older non-descript buildings that look more like an old storage building than a post office. Parking is wonky. Inside is very dimly lit, almost feels like you are in an abandoned building. Despite all this, the employees were actually helpful and pleasant for me. Walked up to the counter, handed over my signed slip and finally had my paycheck in hand. Walking out of here I feel as if you were being welcomed back out into the land of the living.

Look, I hate giving a bad review to the post office but this location is my very last resort. I go…read moreout of my way to avoid here. First, there are only maybe 5 parking spots and if it's full, there isn't really street parking right in front so you have to drive around. But usually I just give up and leave if that happens. If you are lucky to grab a spot, you walk in and it's dark like a cave. There's no self service kiosks so you have to wait in line. The layout is awkward and narrow so sometimes you have to squeeze in front of the people waiting in line in order to get the forms or materials you need, while fellow customers give you dirty looks because they think you're cutting. Other times there's been no line but then no one at the window which is also weird. Then the workers just bark at you as if you're bothering them.

The attitude of the person (short Asian woman) who waited on me today. Never in my 76 years on…read morethis earth have I encountered this type of treatment at a post office. I went in with a box containing a pair of boots I ordered from a vendor through Amazon. I had printed out the label I received from the vendor and the paper from Amazon reflecting the return approval statement and bar code. I asked the person behind the counter what I needed to do. She admonished me for not being prepared as if I were a child. I Told her that I wasn't sure what I needed to do, and if she told me what I needed to do, I would do it. All the while, she was preparing the box to be mailed. She went on to say that she didn't believe I didn't know what to do because everyone knows how to mail packages. I assured her I would not lie to her. By this time, she finished preparing the package and handed me a receipt. I told her I was sorry that she was so angry. She said too much. She could have told me what to do and had me step to the side so I would not hold up the line. The worse thing was how she spoke to me. She was rude, condescending and seemed intent on trying to humiliate and embarrass me. Instead, she just made a fool of herself. Worse, her behavior made public servants look bad. Her statement opining on what everyone knew was surprising. How would she know what everyone knows. Her conduct as a public servant was uncalled for and most inappropriate. I know it is a tough time for federal government workers, but it is not the public's fault. I noticed several similar comments on yelp about the rude behavior of employees at this post office. Perhaps the employees need sensitivity or anger management training.

Would give zero stars if possible. An older woman with straight brown hair and glasses wasted my…read moretime by instructing me to leave and return with my package after assuring me she would print my shipping label. When I returned 25 minutes later exactly as instructed, she abruptly claimed she was unable to ship the package and responded with an unnecessarily rude, dismissive attitude instead of taking accountability for the misinformation she gave me. The lack of communication and unnecessary attitude completely changed what had otherwise been a positive experience. Customer service should not make people feel like an inconvenience for following the exact instructions they were given.

I've had less than friendly encounters there before, but today took the cake. I walked into a dark room 15 minutes after they opened. I stood there for a few minutes while a woman was on her phone talking to her friend, dropping f-words like commas. An alarm went off, she walked by me, completely ignored me, shut it off, and slammed a door. Finally she took a break to tell me they were closed. I asked "Didn't you open at 11?" She snapped, "Yeah, well, I got here late." They're only open 5 hours a day. If you can't put on a fake customer service smile for 5 hours in a mostly empty location, maybe you're not ready for a job in customer service.
