The owner is always available, she makes an effort to know the students and parents. The teachers are world class and give 100% to training and developing the students. I've seen a lot of changes and growth over the years but of course there is always room for improvement. This is not a big glitzy studio that you see on tv. They are real people who truly want the best for the students. And while winning isn't everything, the number of trophies and championships that the studio has earned is a great indication of the level of training provided. From the youngest team at 4 years old to high school seniors and beyond, these students showcase the epitome of excellence in dance. If you're looking for a family oriented, comfortable and caring dance studio for your child that provides an excellent dance education then I encourage you to stop into one of the open houses this summer and see for yourself.

There is a small waiting area for the parents to wait on the kids, and I only saw two bigger rooms where the kids practice. There was no organization at all, especially for a first time grandparent doing the drop off. Thank God my 5 year old knew the drill. There is no staff greeting, that I experienced. The biggest issue is the parking situation. It's awful. You have classes getting out within minutes of the new classes starting. It is true chaos. For that reason alone, I personally would have never picked this dance studio. Could be the old lady in me don't know. But on the positive side, my grand daughter loves it here, loves her teachers and truly enjoys it. So in the end guess that's all that matters.

We've belonged to three ballet studios (we've moved a few times) and have been here the longest. This school impresses me with the level of quality instruction starting with the youngest kids. At a previous dance studio, the "Pre-ballet" or "Ballet I" classes were taught by young college students (and even one high school senior) who were trying to get teaching experience. Here, every teacher we have had has been a professional and has instructed the kids as such. The atmosphere is caring and loving but also fairly serious. You are following in the footsteps of many dancers who have attended the school over 52 years and have gone on to dance careers. The Nutcracker performance sells out at UB every year, and the end of the year recital (also at UB) is an enormous production. This is not the YMCA's music and movement class. They offer ballet, pointe, acro, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, Broadway dance, jazz and tap, as well as adult ballet classes. The cost seems comparable to other dance studios in the area, and there is a discount for families. The school also offers camps in the summer, including a "Princess camp" for girls 8 and younger that seems very popular.

I was looking to take up a dance class and was recommended to try a hip hop dance class at this…read morefacility in Hamburg . I called to get more information and was told it was quite beginner friendly and offered a 4 week session for $15 a class . That was definitely affordable, so I signed up . My friend Nunki decided to join me in this adventure . It was a smaller class size, only about 7 of us , and even though no one was a hip hop expert , you could tell there was some students with dance experience there. (which is not me) The instructor was young , perky, energetic and flexible (also things I'm not , but I can fake it!) The first class was very fast paced for this beginner , but the third week I felt a bit more confident in my moves . I will say it is a great workout and fun without being overly strenuous for this plus sized gal. The instructor was very engaging and helpful , she did lose track once in awhile with her thoughts and the next moves , but with a beginner class, it was no big deal. If you are looking to challenge yourself (or get your kids interested ) in a dance program ,look into Future Dance!

Fast forward to now, my eldest has found her passion for hiphop and is taking 3 hiphop classes; and my now kindergartener is loving the combo and hiphop classes as well. Im sure once my youngest is old enough she too will join the sherry martin crew. Overall, not a competition studio, but thats not what im looking for, just want my girls to have fun, move their bodies and learn something. Honestly, they have favorites. And they don't base those favorites on skill or talent. This is…read moreessentially a recreational studio and not a competition studio. There is nothing wrong with that if that is what you want. BUT... they have so many problems that you'd think they were a mean competition studio. But even competition studios are more transparent than the mystery BS you put up with here. It is a mystery. I fought with them for years over the proper placement for mine. The lack of compassion. The cavalier way they treat their business relationships. The hurtful things the owners say in front of the kids when explaining themselves. The excuses for their poor decisions. Their solution to problems is ... you can go to another studio. They passively kick you out by making it an unhappy place for your child if they don't like you. I can't tell you how many times I have had a mom tell me that after they've paid all fees, lessons, and costumes charges, that suddenly their child has missed too many lessons and can't do a recital. But guess what? They have no stated attendance policy. Which is also ironic since they had several classes that didn't have completed choreography until the week before the recital. When you ask them to justify their placements... they say "trust our professional judgment". (i.e. don't question us.) . When you ask...what does my child need to work on to advance... they give you an answer, and then when your child achieves the goal, the reason they aren't moving up is a new and different reason. And those reasons are often refuted by other students who are in those upper classes with those very issues. One mom told me that they talk in circles saying that X is a reason why a child cannot take a certain level and yet X is great because it really supports successful dance. In the past year, I have seen several families cut back their classes or leave the studio altogether for either another studio or quit dance, because they destroy the love for dance. They are sinking their own ship over there.
