I have used GPS navigation apps since they were first available. The Lyft navigation app is the most dangerous I have ever used. Instructions are vague "Take the Exit", but not which exit, you need to study the app not the road to see which exit. Instructed to do a "U" turn at the busiest crossroad in rush hour. The app will not re-calculate when you pick up a passenger, I had the map going round in circles because it didn't know where I was. Long road trips take many more hours than needed, had a trip take 2.45 hrs longer than it should because it sent me through a different state to come back to the final destination, most long trips have the same problem, passengers get very upset for the time taken for even local trips. The app will always have you pick up a ride or drop off on the left, even on a busy road facing traffic. You need to have the phone connected to power all the time you use Lyft, without it will go from 100% to 0% in 2 hours. Get insults like "Keep your phone out of Airplane mode", "Connection issues" when there are many other drivers waiting for rides in the same area. read more

I used Uber for the first time and it is a delightful experience! Since my appointment was really early in the morning, I pre-scheduled my ride, which showed up in front of my house right on time! That driver was courteous and witty, making it a fun ride no matter the hour! Coming back, I ordered another ride, and that took about 7 minutes to appear, even though the area was slightly congested. That driver was also courteous, chatty and witty, so the ride back was just as pleasantly enjoyable! I have an Uber account with all the safety bells and whistles, so I don't have to worry about any last minute hassles! The good: when it works, it works. I have had a lot of reliable drivers, both in Uber and UberEats. And it is often a good (if expensive) alternative to public transportation. In the Cleveland area, where public transportation is limited and not so reliable, that's important. I have had some drivers who weren't friendly, but they weren't unfriendly, either, just quiet. And I've had some great discussions with some Uber drivers. The bad: Two words---The. App. It is confusing, their help section is vague, the ability to add family members sounds great, but in practice, doesn't seem to work. And the "help desk" is not in a chat format; it is email exchange. Which means that a service rep can respond to you, and then disappear for hours! It is ineffective if you need to solve a problem that is happening right now. The second thing is that when a driver does cancel, you might not learn of it unless you are repeatedly monitoring the app and your messages. This happened to me, and by the time I discovered the cancellation, it was too late and I ended up walking. read more

I sure hope you don't leave your phone in your uber because the only way you can recover it if you cannot access your account online is to repeatedly call your phone until the uber driver finally realizes it's in there and picks up the phone. I do not understand why I am having problems getting a uber. The first time I ordered a uber three weeks ago I could not get a uber it was 12:30 in the afternoon. There were several Ubers in my area at the time. I missed my doctor's appoint I had to reschedle. Today 8-12-2024 I ordered my uber 5 days in advance. I received a text at 11:56 saying your driver will arrive early, That was great my doctor's appointment was at 1:30. The next text came at 12:13 saying Eric (driver) is arriving soon, still good. I'm new and tried because I had emergency. I got app, loaded info requested a ride to a destination and thought price I saw for the ride I picked was the price. Ride showed up fast, the guy was friendly and drove me to my destination. I added 25% Tip because was emergency and the guy showed up fast got me safely to my destination and I was just so happy I was able to get there fast and safe in an emergency. I was Shocked to see final price I was charged. When I set it up I clearly did not see any fees or taxes added. I Assumed price was final price and maybe a tax. Plus Tip. Yeah Airport Fee? WTF?? I was an Uber driver for about 9 months. I'm officially quitting as of today. My biggest complaint is that my account was hacked and the hacker pretended to be an official Uber representative. He used this information to scam me out of 201 dollars and also the contents of my bank account. He stole the money from my Uber Pro card and then made a fraudulent purchase on my bank account. Fortunately the bank reimbursed me. I filed a complaint with Uber eats and was just told the fraudulent money transfer was legitimate and I had no recourse. Because I lost this money, I was forced to take a loan from my retirement account just so I could keep my house. This is also the second time they refused to reimburse me for a fraudulent purchase. In addition, they have randomly cancelled trips I accepted, then refused to reimburse me for my lost time and wages. I drove my car into the ground for them and there isn't even reimbursement for gas or maintenance. I was treated way better at Pizza Hut, being paid an hourly wage, a standard delivery fee, in addition to tips. The only positive I have is the customers who often went above and beyond on tips, recognizing I was just an average Joe trying desperately to pay my bills. I would strongly recommend against doing any business with Uber at all, as this review is not alone in its complaints of unfair treatment and scams. I will not be driving even one more minute or mile with this scumbag company. I would also strongly recommend against working for them. There are way better ways to make money and better uses of time. Even burning your dollars would be preferable to working for this kind of place. If I need a ride or food delivery you can be sure I will find a way to do it myself, get help from family or friends, or use any other service possible other than Uber. If I had money I would sue them for all the time I lost with my wife and kids which was not fairly reimbursed ever. I rode five or so Ubers this weekend in Cleveland, including one from the airport to downtown and another from the hotel to the brew pubs when it was bucketing down with rain. It was all perfect and the same Uber that I've ridden in Charlotte, in Fort Lauderdale, in San Francisco and in Wilkes-Barre. What an amazing technology and it all worked well in Cleveland. Only one bump, where I rated my driver four stars instead of five. He gave me a pretty solid attempt to get me to call him to talk about his multi-level financial business. We're from the nati' but while livin' in up in downtown Cle for a few days, we had our first uber experience. I gotta tell ya, we're hooked. If you're drinking and/or hitting sporting events, you can't go wrong with Uber. In a matter of two days, we used Uber 4-5 times.The cars were clean, the drivers were friendly and I felt safe. Uber in Cleveland and Akron has been an interesting experience. In Boston and New York, nothing but rave reviews. Here in northern Ohio, it's been hit and miss. Maybe more miss. In downtown Cleveland my black car experiences have been lackluster. Beat up cars, gruff drivers, not the level of professional service you expect when paying for a black car. In the Akron area it's only UberX, and it can be admittedly hard to come by available drivers. Northern Summit county can be extremely difficult to find a driver, as most tend to work in downtown Akron. I've tried it anyway as my own very unscientific experiment. The first driver was tough to communicate with as English wasn't his first language. He was very eager to help, and through the app we were able to get critical things like destination past the language barrier. The second driver was very friendly and clean cut and professional...only their car had a cracked windshield. Something that overzealous area cops could hassle you with when you're on a ride. The third driver was pleasant, but his car was beat up. I get it, it's UberX, it's not going to be a limo, but it also shouldn't be a car with every warning indicator lit up like a Christmas tree. Get a code reader from an auto parts store and at least clear the codes from view of the customer even if you're not going to fix them. Now my last experience. I requested the car with a 34-minute initial ETA on the app. I noticed about 20 minutes into waiting that the GPS on the map didn't appear to move. Then it moved to what appeared on Google maps to be a self-storage unit. Then it moved to what appeared to be a gas station. Then it finally made it's way to my pickup point. 1hr2m later the car turned the corner and picked me up. Neither the driver photo (female) matched the driver (male), nor did the car. Domestic in the profile (Ohio temporary license plate), import showed up (Ohio Pride permanent plate). The driver also had a passenger in the front seat. I alerted Uber to this, and they promised credit for the ride...but seriously, after this, I'm about to swear off Uber for the second time. Just a shame that the Cleveland and Akron areas don't have their act together. One little thing that no UberX driver in Cleveland or Akron appears to get, is the concept of keeping their trunk clean for luggage, and moving the front passenger seat forward for leg room. In talking to their driver's it's almost as if they're given the app and a little sign and no further training. For a company that Wall Street values at over $18B, you'd think they'd have the smarts to give the drivers a few pointers on how to present a good product. Instead, all they do is complain about Uber cutting their rates, and being super stingy and greedy. That will be a major problem for them going forward--they need to be more responsive to their drivers. Also of note...don't expect a black car to ever be available at Cleveland Airport, each time I've opened the app they've been downtown, or in Lakewood. At Akron-Canton airport, don't expect an Uber at all. It's as if you're asking for a ride from the moon. read more

I am not sure how to rate uber regarding stars. I would give uber 5 stars because it is fast easy and very reliable. It is way more convenient then using any cab company in Cleveland, because the uber drivers show up within 15 minutes of request, and you can check where the drivers are on the map, which is way better then calling a cab company waiting 45 minutes and most cabs do not show up when there is anything going on in town like the NBA finals. HOWEVER, most people do not realize their charges. Charges are fair for the most part, but when there is a higher demand for a small amount of drivers the charges become OUTRAGES. A 20$ fare becomes a $60 fare. People do not know this because there is no meter like in a taxi cab. It is difficult to keep track of such outrages fares. Also, leaving the county line is another fee that people need to read up on. Transporting people across the county can have huge charges, and again people are not aware of this. I know uber drivers that made $270 driving from Cleveland to Akron. Uber overall, is better, faster, and easier then the sub par taxi cab companies in the Cleveland area. People need to pay close attention and ask about what charges are going on during those times. Maybe uber needs to have a virtual meter on their app, to help and show people their fare charges. read more

I love using uber! I've always had great experiences with the drivers, they always arrive when the app says they will, they're usually as talkative and friendly and you want them to be, and I've always paid a reasonable amount of money. Taking these cars to and from the airport is cheaper, more fun, and more reliable than taking a cab in my opinion. I once got stood up by a cab I called for a trip to the airport, and an uber arrived literally 5 minutes after I call it. I'm not sure what the wait times are for people who live outside of the city, but the longest I've ever waited for one downtown is 6 minutes- and that's any time of the day or night- which is AMAZING!! I've used their promo a lot where my friends have used my code on their first ride, making theirs free and giving me 20 dollars towards my next ride! Also, they say you don't have to tip and for some reason when I first started taking uber I thought it was some policy like aveda where you're not SUPPOSED To tip- but that's not true. You just can't add it to your card! You can tip your little heart out in cash if you wish to do so! So far, uber has not wronged me and I will continue to use them until they do read more

I needed a ride home from a hospital (about a 20 minute drive) late on a Friday evening. Multiple drivers accepted the fare, did not move for a period of time, and then cancelled my trip. After 4 driver cancellations and half an hour, I cancelled the trip and called someone to (very inconveniently) pick me up. At that point I was charged a cancellation fee for wasting the last driver's time. Really? What about the other drivers wasting my time? None of the drivers were moving towards me and the last driver was 25 minutes away. That last driver would probably have cancelled the trip eventually. Will never count on Uber again. Ever. A couple of years ago, I tried to get an Uber from the airport but multiple drivers accepted the fare and then drove away before cancelling. I understand that drivers need to make money, but Uber will lose a lot of customers because of the freedom of drivers to cancel rides after apparently accepting them. read more

Find one near the overpriced, den of cheese-dickery hotspot your at or the one to the closest rub-and-tug you may have found yourself in at 4am. Depends on how you wyle out. You can link a credit card, Paypal or Google Wallet to it. You can add a tip and pay all on app. No cash involved. Pretty sweet. Prices are overall cheaper than the traditional meter running. Flat rate, upfront. Only thing that would make it better would be if David Johansen was driving and we were all Bill Murray. Try it out. Dont worry Buffy, it will take you back to "River"! I'm from sf and just got back from a trip to cleveland. Before using uber, turned to yelp to see whether I could rely on it while in Cleveland since I hadn't rented a car for my 3 day trip. Because the reviews were not great (2.5 star average when I checked) I relief on taxis the first couple of rides. What a mistake. My experience- taxis in Cleveland are a major ripoff with sketchy drivers who will rip you off at every possible turn. $35 charge to go from cleveland Hopkins airport to downtown on a taxi; $14 plus change on uber for same. $20 one way on taxi to go 4 miles from downtown to Cleveland clinic; $13 plus change to go ROUNDTRIP and have driver wait about 5 minutes for me to retrieve something from hotel room for same distance. With the exception of one snafu, all the drivers we had were exceptionally courteous and professional.2 thumbs up for uber in cleveland. Great prices, great drivers. read more

I took a trip from Oberlin to Elyria and got charged twice for the trip. There is no direct way to contact Uber by phone, and the Uber app has limited options for disputing charges. Uber is a total waste of time. I tried to apply through uber and got denied. I'm a partially disabled veteran struggling to pay my bills. I drive a relatively brand new car and my driving record is clean. What kept them from hiring me was a small $100 fine / misdemeanor for domestic violence against my now ex-wife for a light push because she was blocking my path and keeping me from exiting the house to avoid a serious physical confrontation. I also am an active community member and go to church and seek on going proper therapy for my condition. I served over seas in South Korea, Germany, bosnia and the Middle East. When she attempted to use it, they refused, claiming that she was not eligible because there was some other account that may have been associated with her phone number.
