The Player's Palace is a step above the sort of tournament room you'd expect to find in a…read morenon-casino environment. To be honest, they're an even better place to play than the casinos in the area. Their tournaments have better structures, generally more players, and lower rakes than the under $150 buy-in tournaments at any of the casinos I've visited in Oregon and Washington. As a tournament fan I've visited almost all of them over the years, so I was pretty surprised to find the best overall deal right here in Portland. They compare easily with Reno or smaller Vegas casinos. Their ambitious schedule and variety of buy-ins (From $30 up) means that you should be able to find something to your liking pretty easily, so long as you're looking to play Hold-em. They have yet to offer any PLO tournaments, although they do offer some PLO8. The staff keeps the place running smooth and generally conflict-free. While there are the occasional blow-ups and arguments, it's nothing out of the ordinary and the floor employees will quickly calm things down when needed. The snack and beverage prices are very reasonable, with a waitress who walks around the room so you don't have to get up and miss a hand. While you're not going to get a Venetian-style experience (My biggest complaint is their lack of antes) I've found the best overall poker in town at the Player's Palace.

We got a bedroom with a city view. I used my AMEX rewards for this and got a breakfast credit and food/beverage credit. The beds were comfortable. I was so happy to see they had sensible showers for a boutique hotel. It was also nice and quiet. The rooms had everything we needed. I enjoyed the breakfasts we got here. I especially liked the coffees. The servers were very kind and accommodating. The final day I asked if I could use my beverage credit to get a bottle of wine to go and I thankfully was. I would definitely stay in this hotel again I had such a great experience.

We booked with them for a belated 1 year anniversary celebration and it's part of the Amex FHR. There was great communication beforehand, they messaged a few times before our stay communicating their excitement for us. Location is amazing, walking distance from a lot of shopping. I like their garage, it's 35 dollars a day and you get in and out with your room key. The hotel itself is really pretty, lots of woods and warm decor throughout. What I didn't like was the lack of customer service. We checked in around midnight on a Tuesday and front desk seemed almost annoyed at us being there. For a more upscale hotel I'd expect more pleasant interaction. My friend who checked in the next day also had a similar experience. She handed us the paper explaining the Amex benefits but did not review with us. Also, when we checked we were told we'd have a city view, however the keypad to our door wasn't working to we had to go back to the front desk with our luggage, get a new room, bring the luggage to the new without a new room without much apology. The rooms our pretty but our room had paint chipping and the headboards were damaged. Again, not something I'd expect from an upscale hotel. Went down for coffee the next day and again, the service was appropriate but not pleasant. The employee just kind of stood there and waited for me to order without a greeting or a good morning. I enjoyed pool, it's simple and indoors, there are no recliners by the pool. The patio area is right outside with lots of places to hangout and a giant chest set. The fitness center is open 24 hours and has a peloton that I wanted to use. Be mindful if you're ok the 11th floor you're gonna be smelling chlorine anytime you walk out the elevator. The only good interaction i had with a staff member was with Victoria one morning at the front desk. I had some questions about the Amex and gold member credits and she was so helpful and patient. Shout out to Victoria. It's not a bad hotel but I wanted more for the price we paid, honestly next time we may just stay at the Hilton across the street for a cheaper price and maybe enjoy the lobby happy hour at Duniway if we choose to.

We got both the night life experience and the day time experience. I think I preferred the day time because it wasn't as busy. Night means cover charge ($4) and bag check. And no kids. You might see some kids during the day. What a cool place, with yummy drinks (no food), and all my favorite arcade games, and then some! They operate on a card system, so no coins needed when you visit. My pinball wizard friend had been traveling arcade ready with coins in her bag, but it turns out they weren't needed. Ground Kontrol supplies free lockers to store your stuff; just follow the instructions and don't forget your code. I learned a lot about pinball during my visits here, and played more pinball than I usually do because of that. I mean, why not? I played one of the newest pinball games, released within weeks of my visit, which was Pokemon themed, and I played one of the more vintage pinball machines, Xenon. And everything in between! It was awesome. $20 loaded onto a card will get you 15ish games, but there is a different cost depending on which game you're playing. It was generally quiet in the room, though you could hear the light rail go by. Wasn't a huge fan of the fact that the mini fridge was full of things that if I touched it would charged my room. So when you come in, pass the valet riveters to the left, and take the elevator up. The check-in process was fast, but the elevators took longer than they did. To access the elevators to the room floors, you need a key unless you're going down to the 1st floor or lobby. There's a restaurant on the 15th floor that had a line at the elevator because they wanted to access it without a key, and I think that's what kept the elevator area busy. The rooms are pretty big and spacious, with your usual amenities and mini-bar items. The couch was a good size. However, the TV does not move, so if you are on the couch and watching TV, the angle is sideways. The in-room dining menu is limited, with little selection, and even the restaurant/bar behind the lobby has a limited food menu. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were very flat when you lay on them. The housekeeping staff was very friendly and nice
