I stayed at Moxy Portland just for a short 2 night weekend trip to visit a friend. It was a little strange at first, checking in at the bar. I didn't know if I had walked into the right place until I saw the big arrow stating to "check in here". I checked in on a Friday night, so the bar was lively with lots of people mingling, and loud music playing. I luckily didn't hear any of that when I got to my room on the 7th floor, but I can imagine being on the 2nd or 3rd floor, that might be an issue if you value the quiet. My room was very clean, but quite small. I think it's the perfect amount of space for a person traveling solo, or maybe for a couple who are used to sharing a small space. Each room has a sound machine as well, so that was nice to block out any noise. The rooms are not carpeted, making them very echoey, so I definitely utilized the sound machine! The bathroom only had a sliding barn door, which was fine for me being by myself, but I don't think I would have been comfortable with that if I shared the room with a friend or something. The toilet was also oddly close to the main entry door to the hotel room, and that was a little strange for me. The view from the room was looking right into the building in front of us, and I could see directly into their rooms. I imagine they could see into mine too, so just be aware of that. The hallways are very dark when traveling down them when the sun goes down, and I had to use my flashlight at times. This wasn't too big of an issue for me, just a little eerie at night! I wanted to order room service the second night for dinner, but options were super limited. If you have dietary restrictions, you might run into the same issue. However, the hotel is right in the heart of downtown and a walkable distance to restaurants and convenience stores. I was also able to doordash a meal without an issue. Moxy is definitely a new and modern style hotel, and meant to be a social hub. I guess I didn't really understand that when booking, and only booked here for the affordable rate. I'd maybe stay here again when traveling solo, but probably not if I traveled with my partner. The staff was very friendly! read more

I'm giving this boutique hotel a definite "maybe". We had an issue from the moment we checked in. We had won a free night there but the phone number on the gift certificate ended up to be the wrong number & the same story with the email printed on it. I had even called the hotel to book directly and explain about the certificate. But they couldn't help. It seemed like I had to book on my own, pay and then I hoped to get a refund at the hotel. I don't know how but I ended up booking through Expedia. The woman at the desk at Moxy helped me sort it out and thankfully Expedia refunded me on the spot. But it was a stressful way to start our mini getaway for our anniversary. She also upgraded our room, which was very nice of her. The room had an en-suite with a couch, tv, workspace and second bathroom. The toilet off the main bedroom part kept running and it was noisy. My husband ended up turning the water off at the wall and we used the other one. I informed them at the desk when we checked out. We hadn't wanted to bother with someone coming up late at night to fix it. I agree with another yelper about the building across the street. Our shades were so thin we could see into the building across the street. We could only cringe and hope nobody could see us. The other problem was how light it was because some of those lights were on all night. So our room was dim at best, not dark. That's a pet peeve of mine with hotels. I need darkness to sleep well. And quiet. They provide a device on the wall for white noise but that in itself was too noisy for my husband. The next morning as we were walking out of the room and to the little elevator hallway we could hear a woman...well sounding like she was in a porn movie. She sounded just like an actress. It was kind of comical but not what I wanted to hear. Another woman waiting with us for the elevator rolled her eyes and remarked about the paper-thin walls. We had a coffee maker in our room but no coffee cups. Just 2 drinking glasses. I decided not to bother with calling downstairs to have some sent up. Coffee pods and powdered creamer wasn't worth the bother. I might have made some if we had had cups though. Ok so now for some good things. It was fun to stay downtown as locals to the area. It's right within walking distance of lots of restaurants (we had our anniversary dinner at Dolly Olive-see my 5-star review). Dolly is only 2 blocks away. After dinner we walked to Powell's for a nice browse. We also discovered some other little shops we didn't know about, which was fun. So we enjoyed our stay, but improvements could be made. And it was free for us so we really shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. We appreciated that! If you do stay at the Moxy, bring an eye shade & earplugs, and check the toilet & mugs before you settle in for the night! read more

I love the Moxy brand and this location did not disappoint. The front desk staff was super friendly when I arrived and got me in my room immediately. Even if you check in online, they don't get notifications of requested late checkout so make sure you notify the front desk. The bartender was super friendly and talkative. Very engaging. They also made a great couple of drinks for me. The next morning the front desk suggested I go to Cheryl's for breakfast. Outstanding recommendation. Rooms are clean and well maintained. Upon arrival I was greeted by Isabel who was so kind from the time I arrived to the time I left. Later that first day I met Duncan & he was such a ray of sunshine throughout my whole stay. We stayed at this hotel which is in great location of Portland downtown. It was close to a nice food court Biergarten called the Midtown Biergarten and a ton of other restaurants and cool venues as well. While the rooms are compact, they're very efficient with how the space is laid out. For example clothing hanger slots along the the wall. The staff are also friendly. Some issues we did experience though: - Walls are super thin so we were able to hear the couple in the other room if you catch my drift - The water pressure on the shower is super low and it felt like water trickling rather than a shower - The view is blocked by the building in front of us who could probably see into our room too. - Our first day, the housekeeping missed our room - First room has several flies Something good though is we love the lobby decor with fun hangout areas that has board games, Jenga, foosball, Cornhole, and working areas. Really fun and hip vibe. Also the staff was super friendly and helpful during check in and whenever we had any requests. For example, during the issues with the flies they were able to move us to another room and when housekeeping didn't come they quickly got us towels. read more

Aside from the ruckus of a delayed check-in and initial room card issues, this hotel didn't disappoint. It made up for its imperfections. The free drink. The noise canceling machine included in the room. The free Nespresso. The comfy bed. The bathroom. The City view. I felt like I was back in my apartment in Redmond. That's how really good it was. I think the Moxy in downtown Portland is one of the best values in the city! As long as you know what to expect, you can usually find fantastic nightly rates that make this a great option for the price. As with all Moxy hotels, this brand focuses on smaller rooms with modern, space-saving furniture. You'll get clean, comfortable accommodations, but don't expect extravagance. The hotel lobby is always abuzz with communal seating, a fireplace, a bar, and food options at the far end. Moxy leans into the communal aspect at their properties. The location here has its pros and cons -- you're a stone's throw away from Powell's, Deschutes, and many good restaurants. But as some have noted, downtown Portland can be a bit sketchy, especially on weekend evenings. Overall I definitely recommend the Moxy, especially since their rates can drop to almost half what some other hotels charge. Well worth a look if you are prioritizing convenience and value over luxury and extravagance. read more

Great location. Booked a corner king room December '25 and enjoyed my stay. Plenty of food and things to do within walking distance. 3 onsite "restaurants" which is rare for Moxy as usually it's just a Turbo Chef behind the bar cranking out average bar food. I was there right around Xmas so the restaurants were all closed for the holiday. Clean very spacious lobby and bar. White noise generator on the wall but I didn't need to use it. Heading back to Portland next month and plan to stay here again. Like most Moxy locations super nice and helpful staff! read more

Reviews not accurate. No way is this a 4 star rating. They gave free drink coupons to have patrons leave 5 star reviews for the bar to up the yelp reviews. The 5 star reviews for the bar give the false impression the hotel is 4 stars. None of them stayed in the hotel. A few reviews mention this. i was fooled by this. Dishonest. Tricky SOBs. Price gouged. Learned my lesson. In downtown in seedy area with rampant homeless. No garage parking; only option is valet offered by hotel. NO sign or warning of charge. Hotel stay for 1 night100$ parking for one night 62$. Outrageous. Would be better off paying $170 at a better hotel in the burbs. This is a converted office building. The windows and walls separating the rooms arent designed to hotel standards leading to very high noise level when trying to sleep. Most common complaint is when someone is using the TV in an adjacent room the low frequency sounds are amplified because of the hard surface they used to separate walls. Good for office buildings lousy for rooms where you need quiet to sleep. Rooms not built correctly. There isnt a 2x6 drywall insulated wall between walls. You can hear everything in other rooms when they use the tv and turn on the sound. They add a white noise device on the wall to try to compensate. Ridiculous Rooms not carpeted maybe to deal with past bed bug infestations. Difficult to adjust heat. Individual rooms don't seem to have separate hvac systems. They are all lined to a central unit. Can adjust the venting and fan speed but the temp doesn't seem to move noticeably. Tried to warm up at night. Never worked. Hard to sleep because of noise. Cheap windows not insulated well from street noise. Lots of crazy people yelling at random times at night or pounding sounds on metal. Very little sleep. Leave early and find a quiet place to nap in car. Avoid at all costs. Not safe area. This hotel popular with alternate lifestyle community. If you dont have a car a 100$ room is a good deal . Drug user foaming at mouth on sidewalk is not rabies. Needed a narcan shot. Didn't stick around to verify who narcaned him. Rampant Drug use from homeless outside. My husband and I decided to visit Portland for our wedding anniversary and we chose the Moxy for its convenient location. It's a centrally located hotel with great amenities - really fun for adults. The staff were super friendly and great to provide recommendations of things to do in the area. Overall, great value for the price. That's what drew us in most. If you are planning you're stay here, here are some cautions: - the walls are THIN. You can hear everything and even with a complimentary white noise machine and ear plus you still hear everything at all hours of the day. I've never seen a hotel room be equipped with a white noise machine until this trip. - their housekeeping comes every OTHER day. So if you are used to having your room cleaned every day during a stay, do not expect that here. While they said housekeepers come every other day we had to repeatedly ask for housekeeping to come to our room. It wasn't until our last full day that housekeeping finally came. The staff said if you're 'do not disturb' sign is on while the housekeepers are doing their rounds then they won't do your room...we found this to be true even when removing the door sign after leaving at around 10am every day during our stay. When they finally did come on the last day it wasn't cleaned until around 2pm. There was also a contact on the floor so I question how well they cleaned it (we don't wear contacts lol). While housekeeping isn't a big part of the experience, it helps ensure your room is at least being attended too so you can come back to a refreshed space. Even after asking management multiple times and not seeing any follow through until the last day - it depleted my confidence in the team's ability to effectively do their job in my opinion. read more

We are a band on the road and had an incredible stay at the Moxy Hotel in Portland. The customer service was excellent, friendly and helpful from start to finish. We had NO WIFI OR TV FOR 4 DAYS despite notifying the front desk every single day. "Food trucks" n/a on weekends.

Came down for the weekend. Moxy is an interesting place. The bar is super cool but don't expect it to be packed like the pics on the website. Staff are extremely nice and helpful. We got a corner King room. We were on the 10th floor and the view was awesome. Bed was a little firm, walls were thin but it didn't bother us... although our neighbors probably heard more than intended room had floor to ceiling windows which was very cool Parking is a bit difficult but we were able to find street parking both nights. I would stay again, great value for the area and great customer service read more

The good: location was convenient, and the lobby was cute The rest: the room i stayed in was a concrete box, so it was *loud*. I could hear outside (hi the Max!). I could hear drunk people in the hallways, who woke me up at both midnight and 2 AM . The hotel clearly knows this, because there was a noise machine on the wall, which i used. It was insufficient. Despite all this, i was going to stay there again on another work trip, but there was a problem with the booking, and they basically told me ha ha, that sucks. Ok then! We had a pleasant stay here this past weekend. Staff provided helpful information at our arrival. The lobby set up with colorful and quirky decor and furnishings giving off a chic vibe. Free drink ticket for their bar given at check-in, the bar and check-in counter one and the same (bar closes at midnight). The room was clean, modern, and simple, with wooden flooring, comfy bedding, temperature control, a powerful hairdryer, and a really nice shower head. They also provided earplugs, possibly for thin walls, but it was quiet and peaceful enough while we were there so we were able to get a good night's rest. Great location. First time at a Moxy. Staff was friendly. Very comfortable bed. Rooms are very minimalistic. Stash closet was empty most of the time. No breakfast served that we could find and the restaurant was closed Monday and Tuesday. We got one ticket for a drink upon check in. Would have been nice to get two. I was hoping to try the Moxy signature welcome drink that people have posted about, but we we're told the coupon was for beer, wine or well. Overall, a good stay. read more

May 2024 - I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. The location is great and lots of walkable spots nearby for shopping, dining, socializing. My room was comfortable and clean. I was concerned because a white noise machine and earplugs were supplied but I didn't think it was noisy but I also live in a city. My room also came with a mini fridge and Nespresso machine which isn't great for a tea drinker but I could also just get hot water down near the front desk. This is my 2nd Moxy location stay and the decor was similar to the last one with supplies being available without bothering a staff person. Bathroom was serviceable but I didn't love a shower curtain, rather than glass and it seemed a bit short. Would recommend again. read more

They acknowledged me every time I came by the front desk and either mentioned me by name and/or wished me a happy birthday all weekend long. The rooms ARE small. The reviews are lying about that. But everything else about the Moxy makes up for it. You're immediately greeted by a friendly face, bright lights, and jammin music when you walk through the door. When you check in you're presented with a ticket for a free drink and that's how you know you're in for a fun stay. I chose the "Get Moxy" which was delightfully fruity with a cute little pink flair. As stated above, the rooms are tiny. The bed's softness, the blackout shades, and the noise machine are a dangerous combination. I had some of the best sleep I've ever had in that room. They provided us with a few pairs of earplugs but the noise machine drowned out any noises I may have found undesirable. When I was out I was OUT. The room is beautifully decorated and almost minimalist in a way that's needed for the tiny space. I loved the shower and its attachments and the teeny tiny desk made a great place to keep food and charging items. The staff at the bar were fantastic! They were able to help provide me with ice, getting change for bills, and directing me to supplies (all the extra supplies are kept in the "Stash Closet" on your floor and made for super easy access when needed). They were all warm, helpful, and seemed genuinely happy to help out, which was so nice. If you're someone who doesn't plan to be in your room much this is beyond a great choice. It made for a cozy little spot to end the day and a comfortable setting to wake up in. I would stay in this space again and again. read more

Great overall stay except for the freaking toilets!! I had to hold myself up so my legs would stop hurting g trying to hold myself up! The toilets are oddly shaped and made it so uncomfortable to sit! Other than that, nice view, not terribly loud despite thin walls, and excellent front desk service. They did supply ear plugs and a white noise machine. Our order: got moxy What a cute and fun drink! It echoed the neon pink theme of the hotel. The bartender and his process was theatrical and entertaining. The drink was balanced between chaser and alcohol. It was tart and fruity. For a lightweight like myself, it was more than I could handle, especially after we got cozy by the fireplace. As many other reviews stated, the walls are so thin. Our first night we overheard another couple and after an hour called the front desk (I'd already requested they stop or be quiet). Front desk said "god damn it" on the phone and hung up, did nothing about it as they continued then threw a loud party in their room until 6am. The service improved from there. The bartenders were all extremely friendly and made great drinks. The view was incredible, and check in and check out were super easy. I am giving this place a 4 star only because they typically are great. I believe it was Alex that I was trying to work with, but he wouldn't book me a room, told me I only get a room with a refrigerator if I am a preferred member. I have got that room several times and have around 30 total night there this year. He sounds conceded and entitled on the phone, argued with me about getting a room, and generally belittled me. All that said, the place is awesome and everyone else is great. I have worked with him at the front desk several times and he will ignore you until he finishes his conversation. He did t even ask my name before starting to tell me things that were not true. I.e. I can only get a room with a fridge if I pay through Hyatt.com. He has routinely talked down to people and must have only a couple of years experience in hotels and service. Very disappointing, but everyone else is great so I still recommend it. Cheers! *update* I came down to check in and DAVID not Eric was there. I recognized his voice. I told him that I thought he was rude, and instead of apologizing, he continued to argue with me about what room I can stay in. They had 1 room left and ERIC stepped in and asked David to take the phone call as he was getting very worked up. Eric was fast, nice, professional, and honestly he turned a really bad experience into a great one. I had this place at 4 stars, but I believe everywhere makes mistakes and what matters is how they handle them. Eric was a rockstar and could not of handled that situation better. 5 stars for Eric and the hotel, 0 stars for David and his conceded attitude and inability to listen to the guest. Im gonna start by saying it is a beautiful property. Fun. Convenient location and love that theres food options near the lobby. What i didnt like was the front desk staff. The guy who checked me in was extremely dismissive and didnt let me know about the $360 "deposit" they added to my card. I only stayed 2 nights. I had paid online but then got charged something completely different after btw. I went to front desk the next morning and asked about it. Girl working there was nice and acted genuinely confused and thats when we noticed another $130 charge. She said there was a glitch in the system and to give it a day, maybe it'll go away. Moxy Hotel tried to charge me 6 different more times. All with different amounts that night. Even when i checked out i was still getting attempts. I even got one for $1 which was crazy to me. I contacted them again for that and also because they charged me for valet for an extra day when i didnt use it and -- again, told me to give it time. I did get the refund... but the next day it didnt show on my bank account anymore. I find it weird how many times they tried to charge me. Ive never stayed at a hotel where they would charge me multiple times with different amounts each time while i was still checked in. read more
