I do not live in Portland and was visiting this club for the first time. Needless to say, I will never return. First, I want to say that all of the employees I interacted with were polite, professional and efficient. The bartender was terrific; she kept my drinks full and easily served a round of drinks for the table for me. So why the one-star review? Simply put, this club does not have any luck keeping out of control patrons in check. I was seated at a table with a guy who repeatedly made rude comments, including comments that bordered on predatory and rape culture. So much so, he was actually called out by the dealer and his seatmate. But to no avail. He continued to make comments and was continuing to be served alcohol despite his obvious intoxication. When I busted out, he spun around and around in his chair laughing like a drunken toddler. As a woman, I was offended, demoralized and felt somewhat threatened. It was not a welcoming environment in any way. What a shame.

I need to feel comfortable, not distracted, safe, and there of course needs to be parking. The Game Poker Club is CLEAN! Well organized! And the owner always puts on the personal touch for everyone. NOT just the house regulars. What a breath of fresh air! Literally! Nobody wants to walk out feeling like they don't want to go back. You could also park in the front of the hotel for quick drop off if you miss the parking structure. Our check in process was a bit disappointing. There was only one worker doing the check in, and he was SO SLOW. I don't know if it was the computer issue or what, but it took me half an hour to check in, and there was only 2 people in front of me. Having a live music band a few feet from the check in desk also was not helping. The room is clean and everything works as expected. The breakfast was included with our package, and this was one of the highlight. It was not regular buffet breakfast, it is actually restaurant-grade foods at the lobby, I think it's called the Melrose? The downside is wait time is horrendous. My work around for this is order them to go first thing in the morning. They have a barista there too that makes great lattes. Location is very convenient, walkable to all the restaurants on my list, there is a communal food trucks area just a block from the hotel. The other downside is there was so many hobos in the area... but that is not in the hotel's control.

For $20, you get 310 credits, which can actually last a surprisingly long time depending on what you play. I definitely appreciate being able to spend a good chunk of time here without burning through everything immediately. I played Street Fighter, Mario Kart, and a bunch of other arcade games, plus several of the pinball machines. There are so many classics packed into the place that it really does feel like a giant nostalgia trip. So that we would just be around the corner and popping in here would be easy during our stay. Luckily I was able to come in on two different days, and at different times! We got both the night life experience and the day time experience. I think I preferred the day time because it wasn't as busy. Night means cover charge ($4) and bag check. And no kids. You might see some kids during the day. What a cool place, with yummy drinks (no food), and all my favorite arcade games, and then some! They operate on a card system, so no coins needed when you visit. My pinball wizard friend had been traveling arcade ready with coins in her bag, but it turns out they weren't needed. Ground Kontrol supplies free lockers to store your stuff; just follow the instructions and don't forget your code. I learned a lot about pinball during my visits here, and played more pinball than I usually do because of that. I mean, why not? I played one of the newest pinball games, released within weeks of my visit, which was Pokemon themed, and I played one of the more vintage pinball machines, Xenon. And everything in between! It was awesome. $20 loaded onto a card will get you 15ish games, but there is a different cost depending on which game you're playing. I was satisfied with the value and would, and did! come back again. Highly recommend stopping in if you're in the area! Make sure to check out the whole place, as it's bigger than you think and there are more games (mostly pinball) upstairs.

I did enjoy having the nice couch, though there were some stains on it. The view wasn't anything too special, it overlooked the next-door building. The bathroom was clean, well lit, and I enjoy not having the little bottles of shampoo and conditioner, and instead the larger containers for less waste. It was generally quiet in the room, though you could hear the light rail go by. Wasn't a huge fan of the fact that the mini fridge was full of things that if I touched it would charged my room. If you wanted to bring leftovers from nearby restaurant, you can't because there's no space in the fridge to put things. Overall it was a good place to stay while in Portland.

So when you come in, pass the valet riveters to the left, and take the elevator up. The check-in process was fast, but the elevators took longer than they did. To access the elevators to the room floors, you need a key unless you're going down to the 1st floor or lobby. There's a restaurant on the 15th floor that had a line at the elevator because they wanted to access it without a key, and I think that's what kept the elevator area busy. The rooms are pretty big and spacious, with your usual amenities and mini-bar items. The couch was a good size. However, the TV does not move, so if you are on the couch and watching TV, the angle is sideways. The in-room dining menu is limited, with little selection, and even the restaurant/bar behind the lobby has a limited food menu. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were very flat when you lay on them. The housekeeping staff was very friendly and nice

We had won a free night there but the phone number on the gift certificate ended up to be the wrong number & the same story with the email printed on it. I had even called the hotel to book directly and explain about the certificate. But they couldn't help. It seemed like I had to book on my own, pay and then I hoped to get a refund at the hotel. I don't know how but I ended up booking through Expedia. The woman at the desk at Moxy helped me sort it out and thankfully Expedia refunded me on the spot. But it was a stressful way to start our mini getaway for our anniversary. She also upgraded our room, which was very nice of her. The room had an en-suite with a couch, tv, workspace and second bathroom. The toilet off the main bedroom part kept running and it was noisy. My husband ended up turning the water off at the wall and we used the other one. I informed them at the desk when we checked out. We hadn't wanted to bother with someone coming up late at night to fix it. I agree with another yelper about the building across the street. Our shades were so thin we could see into the building across the street. We could only cringe and hope nobody could see us. The other problem was how light it was because some of those lights were on all night. So our room was dim at best, not dark. That's a pet peeve of mine with hotels. I need darkness to sleep well. And quiet. They provide a device on the wall for white noise but that in itself was too noisy for my husband. The next morning as we were walking out of the room and to the little elevator hallway we could hear a woman...well sounding like she was in a porn movie. She sounded just like an actress. It was kind of comical but not what I wanted to hear. Another woman waiting with us for the elevator rolled her eyes and remarked about the paper-thin walls. We had a coffee maker in our room but no coffee cups. Just 2 drinking glasses. I decided not to bother with calling downstairs to have some sent up. Coffee pods and powdered creamer wasn't worth the bother. I might have made some if we had had cups though. Ok so now for some good things. It was fun to stay downtown as locals to the area. It's right within walking distance of lots of restaurants (we had our anniversary dinner at Dolly Olive-see my 5-star review). Dolly is only 2 blocks away. After dinner we walked to Powell's for a nice browse. We also discovered some other little shops we didn't know about, which was fun. So we enjoyed our stay, but improvements could be made. And it was free for us so we really shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. We appreciated that! If you do stay at the Moxy, bring an eye shade & earplugs, and check the toilet & mugs before you settle in for the night!

I didn't know if I had walked into the right place until I saw the big arrow stating to "check in here". I checked in on a Friday night, so the bar was lively with lots of people mingling, and loud music playing. I luckily didn't hear any of that when I got to my room on the 7th floor, but I can imagine being on the 2nd or 3rd floor, that might be an issue if you value the quiet. My room was very clean, but quite small. I think it's the perfect amount of space for a person traveling solo, or maybe for a couple who are used to sharing a small space. Each room has a sound machine as well, so that was nice to block out any noise. The rooms are not carpeted, making them very echoey, so I definitely utilized the sound machine! The bathroom only had a sliding barn door, which was fine for me being by myself, but I don't think I would have been comfortable with that if I shared the room with a friend or something. The toilet was also oddly close to the main entry door to the hotel room, and that was a little strange for me. The view from the room was looking right into the building in front of us, and I could see directly into their rooms. I imagine they could see into mine too, so just be aware of that. The hallways are very dark when traveling down them when the sun goes down, and I had to use my flashlight at times. This wasn't too big of an issue for me, just a little eerie at night! I wanted to order room service the second night for dinner, but options were super limited. If you have dietary restrictions, you might run into the same issue. However, the hotel is right in the heart of downtown and a walkable distance to restaurants and convenience stores. I was also able to doordash a meal without an issue. Moxy is definitely a new and modern style hotel, and meant to be a social hub. I guess I didn't really understand that when booking, and only booked here for the affordable rate. I'd maybe stay here again when traveling solo, but probably not if I traveled with my partner. The staff was very friendly!
