uBreakiFix is a chain, but still with a name with that how can you not be skeptical? Well I have an iPhone, and my family decided to go with AT&T's insurance plan. When I dropped my phone and had a white line going down the screen, I filed a claim to have it fixed. I was expecting to have to go to an AT&T store, but all the uBreakiFix spots popped up as well. This spot is closer to me than any AT&T store so I came here on a Monday morning to drop it off. It wasn't busy, and after giving my phone number they were able to look up my claim and asked me to come back in 90 minutes. Used that time to get lunch (but was also sadly reminded a lot of restaurants are closed Mondays). I came back a little early and my phone was all set to go. Since it was via my insurance the payment just shows up in the phone bill. My only complaint was they put a screen protector on which I thought was nice, until I realized it was covering up the part of the phone you put your ear on - I was confused why my calls were so muffled. Still, not much to complain about! Obviously this is a unique scenario as I'm not just coming in with a random problem, and I assume my issue was a common one, but at least I can say they fixed my minor phone problem well. read more

They did a nice job about replacing the battery on my laptop. Since getting it back, I notice a rattle sound inside the case. I assume it is the battery. When I open up my laptop, I constantly get the gray start up screen (with processing lights at the bottom) before the standard desktop background. When I called asking to bring it back it I got: 1) It will need to sit here for a few days 2) You can make an appointment, but it will still be in cue and then you will still wait for days. WTF?!!! Ubreakifix is a Google authorized repair provider for Pixel phones - great, I broke my screen and needed someone dependable. They also sell "warranties" which sound great on the phone, but are ultimately a hustle. The warranty comprises of a screen protector, and a postcard that refers you to a third party to activate. The provider isn't google or Ubreakifix corporate - but you don't know this though until after you were sold the warranty over the phone, and the screen protector's installed. Upon "activating" this third party warranty, warning bells start going off. Unnecessarily difficult process. Inconsistent process between what the store tells you, and the warranty provider. Before you can repair your phone, you have to start a claim and get authorization. So one trip to the store for a quote, then once it's approved, another trip to perform the repair. The provider might tell you your claim is approved, but they don't actually send the reimbursement check - I've been waiting 3.5 months for mine. I reached out to the store to let them know about this, and the person who answered played ignorant. When you google their provider - "instaprotek" - it's eye opening! They earn one star reviews across the board with similar reports of abuse of customers. Ubreakifix, you do just fine repairing phones, but why the side hustle of the "warranty" service? Please make it right for me, and stop peddling this terrible service to customers who trust you as Google's authorized repair provider. read more

Nothing I can write can come close to describing my euphoria at having found an electronic device repair place I can trust. Technically capable, fair policies, honest as the day is long, and friendly/helpful. Rarely do firms deserve the full five stars for outstanding service - Ubreakifix deserves the five stars and then some. I went to the one in Lakeview (Chicago). Just one example:. Brought the wife's laptop in, charging stopped working. I've seen this movie with other PCs - if the charging port is a fixed part of the mother board, it's not likely to be a cost effective repair. They order a new charger, and a new charging port to fully check out the problem. Turns out it was just the (original) Lenovo charger. Charge:. $0. I'm not kidding! They even recommended buying a new charger on Amazon instead of the Lenovo one for twice the $. They also diagnosed and swapped the screen on my cell phone in two hours! The best uBreakiFix in Chicago! I went to another shop after confirming they had the parts & then when I got there they didn't! With this shop not only did they actually have them in stock, but they were able to take care of me the same day. Dropped my phone off & it was ready in 2 hours just like they said. The phone even had the plastic on like it was fresh out of the box! Though the service is good, uBreakiFix loses a whole star for the following reasons. They are charging almost triple what the back glass actually costs & almost double what the front glass & digitizer (touchscreen) actually costs. They also seem to be charging a $70 labor fee PER PART even though it's on the same device & you have to take the back glass off in-order to repair the front glass or any other part anyway! I had a suspicion that my gaming laptop battery had expanded due to some warping of the casing and took it into this shop. They ran a diagnostic test at no cost, and immediately followed up with a call the same day to discuss the options after confirming the problem. They were able to save my machine and replace the battery in a few days (they had to order the battery replacement and replaced it the same day it arrived). They even cleaned up my casing at no extra cost (some dust had been stuck in the speaker holes that I previously couldn't dislodge with duster/canned air). They saved me a load of cash; the OEM company wanted to charge me an arm and a leg for "professional battery replacement" and ubreakitifix were able to perform the same fix for a fraction of the price. My daughter broke off the headphone plug in her tablet. It is a simple fix with a $10 tool. Rather than wait a few days for the tool to arrive I made a same day appointment to bring it in. I figured I would rather pay to have it fixed immediately. I went in and she fiddled with it for 5 minutes, came out and said she could not fix it. She then Googled taking it apart and said she can fix it but it would be $150 and she had to take it apart. I bright in my iPhone X to get a cracked backplate fixed. The phone worked perfectly fine but just had some cracks. After getting the phone back, it constantly shuts down and turns back on which makes it practically unusable. It's great that they fixed the backplate but ended up making the phone unusable. I should have recycled the phone or got it repaired at an Apple Store instead of going here. Wouldn't not recommend getting any type of repairs here. read more

Learned about the existence of U Break I Fix when the back of my Samsung Galaxy popped off because the battery was swelling. (!!!) What a great little shop this is! They ordered my replacement battery on a Monday (I have the Smaller Galaxy 10), it arrived by Friday & my phone was ready to go in about 2 hours. While I was there people came in for various other repairs. The techs were knowledgeable and very courteous. They get bonus points for having bottled water in the lobby, particularly on my first visit which was a sweltering day. I needed to fix my broken screen on my phone and since I had insurance, I used Asurion. The Clark street location called me promptly to tell me that it would take a day to order my screen. That was nice since clearly they saw my claim from Asurion on their end. The next morning they called me to tell me the screen was in and I could bring my phone in. When I walked in the store I told the lady behind the counter that I was called and I was told that my screen was in. She said she was the one who called me and asked for my name again to look me up in the system and she clearly said "I found it," Which to me meant that she found my claim. They said it would take 3 hours and to come back at 1:30 PM. Once I got there to pick up the phone, the kid behind the counter gave me my repaired phone and said $299. I said there must be a mistake since I had insurance and offered to give my claim number again. He gets very flustered and tells me I am inconveniencing him because I didn't tell them this morning that this was an insurance case and now he has to do "all this work!" I told him that they had called me twice about my claim and when I was there in the morning I was told that she had found it, which I took to mean she found my claim! He tells me there are 5 of them working there and they don't talk to each other, which made zero sense to me. Why is that even my problem? That wasn't even my point, my point was that she looked me up in the system and found me, therefore the work order should be under my claim! After all why else would I be in the system if not for the claim?! Now I am standing there with my child in my arm who is hungry and needs to go to the bathroom and this kid is telling me how he is "inconvenienced!" He says I need to come back in 45 minutes because the work they did was with the assumption that it was a retail sale not an insurance claim. I asked why would changing a screen be any different whether insurance paid for it or I paid for it? He mumbles something about diagnostics, which again made no sense. What did they do to my phone once they realized this was an insurance case? The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth and made me doubt the quality of the work they had done. Since my review I have had to have this screen replaced TWICE and it just cracked again tonight over nothing! This will be the third time in ONE MONTH I've had to replace THEIR glass. I needed to replace the speakers in my 5 year old macbook. I called around. The fanciers mac repair stores were WAY more costly and would keep my mac for around 5 days! I brought my laptop to uBreakiFix. They did free diagnostic and confirmed that I needed new speakers. They ordered the parts and let me have my machine back I the meantime. I have an iPhone X, so I've had it a while. It was in perfect condition until I accidentally dropped it screen down from a high counter. I brought it to Ubreak I Fix in Lakeview for screen repair. Initially, they were very nice, explained everything and the process was simple. However, less than 2 days later, my phone had a big scratch on the screen. They promised the glass was the exact same as Apple. I find this hard to believe as I had my phone for years with no issue, and 2 days after having it repaired it's scratched. When I called U Break I Fix, they said they did not damage my screen - agree, I'm complaining about the glass quality. They have a warranty, but not for accidental damage (because I purposely damage my phone???) They were rude and said I'd have to pay another $30. I no longer recommend this store. read more

CHECK YOUTUBE FIRST!!! I brought in an external hard drive that when I tried to open it on my computer I got a message saying the drive was corrupt. I brought it in on a Saturday morning and explained the situation. The following Friday, I spoke to them and they said they were unable to retrieve the files and the drive was "too far gone". I picked up the drive the next morning and when I got home I decided to check Youtube if there were any videos on how to access a corrupt external hard drive. I fond a many videos, watched one which addressed the exact same issues I was having, did as the video instructed, and am now able to open the external hard drive and access all of my files. read more

I needed a new battery for my iPhone 7 and the Apple Stores, Best Buy Stores, etc have all been closed because of the COVID lockdown. Now that things are opening up, the Apple Stores were still closed so I decided to chance my repair with these guys. I called them in the morning, and got a verbal estimate after the technician made sure the parts were in stock. I thought going in that I also needed the charging port repaired, but after a complimentary forced air clean of the port it was working fine. Since I was convinced it was damaged the technician could easily have just replaced it and charged me parts and labor. Instead, the final price was only about 1/2 what I expected and finished in less than two hours! Excellent service and value. I can't say I've ever been compelled to write a review, but hands-down the most rude service interaction I've had in a very long time. Made my appointment online TWICE because I never received the promised confirmation email - even took a screenshot the second time just in case. Showed up and said I had an appointment at 3pm for my ipad and immediately the woman at the counter didn't bother to look me up, or look at my appointment confirmation and told me very rudely that "I didn't have an appointment". After explaining that I did and perhaps there was a system error because I was having some troubles booking this morning, she continued to glare and insisted that I did not but that "She'd help me anyway, if I want". I said okay and took out my device, she didn't ask what needed to be done or any details and told me it would be 24 hours minimum. Came here to get the glass replaced on my ipad screen because it is cracked, solely chose it because the website verbatim says: "We know you don't have all day so we'll return your device as quickly as possible. Most of our repairs can be performed in under two hours." It also says: "Almost all repairs can be completed while you wait in 30 minutes or less by one of our experienced technicians. The only repair that cannot be completed while you wait is the water damaged repair service.". Instead, she told me it would be 24 hours, continued with her rude tone and demeanor and I left. Honestly just left thinking wtf was that? Will be going to best buy after that experience. read more

My daughter broke the screen on her iPhone. When I researched places to have it fixed, I purposefully chose ubreakifix because they guarantee the products they replace for 90 days. I confirmed this with the manager. It is also stated on their website, in the store and on the recording when you call. So when the glass on my daughter's phone cracked within 90 days, I reached out to them. I explained that the glass was broken when she came in from the cold. There was no trauma to the phone and the screensaver was not cracked. The only thing that was broken was the glass they replaced. The store would not help me but told me to call customer service. I called from the store and sent the pictures they asked for. I was told I would hear back within a few days. After 1.5 weeks, I called again and spoke w the same representative. He apologized for not getting back to me but said that based on the photos, "it was clear that the phone was dropped." I disputed the statement highlighting that NOTHING WAS BROKEN BUT THEIR REPLACEMENT GLASS! In addition, their guarentee has no disclaimer. The rep promised to review the case and would get back to me to within a few days. Again, i heard nothing. This place makes false claims and does not back their products. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!
