Any time one visits the hospital, it can be a nerve racking experience. This feeling was immediately put behind me when I had the privilege of being introduced to my nurse, Hillary. She had a bright and cheerful personality and I really felt it was genuine. At one point she had me laughing so hard because she had a truly special gift for finding humor in the world. All of my worries melted away. The best thing is, I could tell she really cares about the veterans who she is devoted to helping. I felt I was in good hands. Mahalo Hillary for all you do. I showed up Jan 14. They told me "BY" means "ON" Feb 12. It doesn't. The dictionary says that "by" means "not later than." Then they said "by" means a hard date." It doesn't. ChatGPT says that "BY" means "before a given date, which is usually an expiration date." Simple. So here I sit continuing to fast and get hungry and thirsty and unhappy and sit and sit and sit waiting for the busy doctor to re-enter whatever info the lab thinks it needs, in their special language, so I can take my tests. The order was written months ago, btw , so their misinformation is especially baffling. Approaching my 2nd hour+ here and thinking This is a terrible introduction to Scripps lab.

Everyone on my care team has been outstanding -- doctors, nurses, physicists, and radiation technologists. Professional, caring, compassionate, helpful ... approachable. Communication is excellent -- in-person, by telephone, and through the myScripps portal. Located across Torrey Pines Road from the Scripps Torrey Pines campus, the Center itself is state-of-the-art in a smart looking building. The entry and main seating area are sunlit, bright and airy. Receptionists are welcoming and clearly patient-focused. There's no charge for parking. What more can I say? I highly recommend everything about the Scripps Cancer Center.

The care of the patient I was visiting seemed friendly and caring, tending to her pain level needs sensitively. She did have one nurse that she thought was insensitive to her needs and talked to her in a condescending tone. The last straw was when she was made to feel like it her fault that she fell (patient is a fall risk), so she ended up requesting a new nurse and all was great after that.

I came into the hospital 2 days early to have my care coordinated due to a high risk pregnancy and we didn't see any specialists during that time despite asking/reminding nurses and doctors . We didn't speak with anyone about the delivery "game plan" until the morning of so it felt like my extra two day stay was completely unnecessary. Additionally, I experienced a post delivery emergency and was sent down to get an MRI and CT without a gown and with medical patches on and that seemed to greatly irritate the MRI tech. Whenever I had a question I was directed to a specialist (obgyn, neurologist, anesthesiologist, etc.) that would then direct me back to the person I originally asked the question to. And my final complaint is that all the lactation consultants gave me conflicting information. Overall my stay felt sloppy and uncoordinated. I didn't feel very confident about the care received and the billing that followed was equally as disorganized. In comparison to an earlier stay I had a sharp memorial, the experience was night and day. I would avoid UCSD if at all possible moving forward. Sharp care was very organized and much more professional.

Recently though, including twice this week, we have had UCSD cancel appointments because of THEIR administrative failings. To add salt to the literal wound, they offer makeup appointment months later! We aren't going to these appointments because it's fun. We are going because we have medical issues that impact the length and/or quality of our lives! They are so heartless! Get your act together, UCSD!

Checked in on advice of my Cardiologist on Monday noon about a week ago. Very low heart beat and…read moredropping all over the place. I was checked out by several cardiologist and given a lot of tests and much blood was drawn. After several hours of this activity I was moved upstairs to a room and more tests and X-rays and blood was drawn. Slept well that night and woke up to more of the same and more of the staff Specialty Drs mostly. It was my heart shutting down and stopping at times. By that afternoon 2pm I was in surgery and had a new Pace-Maker. Slept good that night and was at home the next afternoon. Over a week later and I feel grate and love UCSD MS. The way they took care of me was more than I could have asked for and the Drs. And Staff were Excellent and gave me the best of care!j

Used to be that rich people would go over to Germany to some fancy stem cell clinic. These under-the-radar treatment centers would offer people on their last health legs, stem cell therapy. Well, now here in San Diego, we have the new San Diego Stem Cell Treatment Center. Their website noted that "since 2013, top orthopedic surgeons have been using stem cell therapy to treat patients suffering from arthritis and other orthopaedic conditions." This is the first step in utilizing stem cells for health purposes, while more clinical research is done to see how to treat more complex illnesses like cancer and muscular dystrophy. SD Stem Cell Treatment Center now offers to treat hip, knee, shoulder or back pain by utilizing your own stem cells with minimally invasive procedures. (Probably big needles.) The website states that "Stem cell treatment offers the potential for millions of viable mesenchymal stem cells to differentiate into normal healing tissues and can be injected into painful joints, around painful tendons and ligaments and given as an IV for systemic use." Their stem cell treatments are done on Friday afternoons, which I figure, allows for the patient to use their weekend to rest and recover from the procedure. I called today and asked about what insurance, if any, this new business accepts as I would love some stem cells in my arthritic knees. Unfortunately, and the reason for deducting 1 YELP STAR for this business, is that it is CASH ONLY. And just to begin the treatment process costs $8,000. Which sounds like money well spent but I might have to wait until I hit the lottery to start the stem cells flowing.
