We celebrated my 40th birthday in Kona and when my family asked what I wanted to do Parasailing was my immediate answer! The concierge recommended UFO and the Yelp reviews were great so we got it booked! The whole process was incredibly easy from start to finish and they gave us an educators discount, 15% off! The only reason this is not full stars is because we got duped on pics. They specifically told us to not bring a phone and they would take pics and then at the end - no pics were provided. I'm terrified of heights so this was a really big deal to me and majorly disappointed to not have photos. But I felt incredibly safe and the captain was wonderful. Highly suggest bringing your own phone regardless of what they say but otherwise a great experience. read more

This was my first time parasailing and it was a great experience! I am afraid of heights so I was super nervous to do this but the crew made me very comfortable and I felt safe the entire time! They were so great at giving instructions and really listen to your needs. I am glad my husband and I did the dunk! You get wet and it's so refreshing but of course you have the option to not (I don't recommend this, the dunk was so worth it!). It is so peaceful when you are up there that anyone who's afraid of heights can do this! I will definitely be recommending UFO Parasailing! read more

I would have never guessed that I would even ever try parasailing, but after being suggested and reading up on some reviews, I decided to face my fear and made reservations for the 10am time slot which also offered a 15% discount. Up to 8 people can sign up for the time slots provided and including us, our group had six. Fill out your waivers online and show up 30 minutes prior. Validated parking is available at the Courtyard by Marriott King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel, 3 hours for $2. We ended up getting it free when we inserted our ticket on the way out. The crew was super friendly and we got started once we moved away from the dock. You can store all your belongings beneath you. The water was pretty peaceful the day we went, so we were able to hold onto our phones and take pictures during the boat ride when it wasn't our turn. We went first and after our straps and life jackets were fitted to us, we were strapped in. It was such an awesome experience, no queasy feeling in my stomach, just an overall feeling of peace. It was quiet up there and you may swing, but it is so slight. You climb to about 1200 ft according to the website and it felt like we were up there for about 15 mins. The views were gorgeous and the day we went a cruise ship was in the area. We were dipped in the water coming in, but just let them know if you don't want to get wet. We purchased the media package onsite for $30 and received them via text. If you're thinking about it, do it. We had a blast! read more

Wow! Great experience despite delay. Saw from our condo balcony, taking people out and the name of the place was on the boat. Realized I was terrified but wanted to do it anyway. Note that I'm anxiety prone generally and have some back issues. Went to the website and read about it. Made a reservation online easy peasy. Added the photo package cause photos or ot didn't happen. Walked down to dock next day and they'd had a technical difficulty. Rather than take it as a sign I shouldn't do it, we had them move us to two hours later. Younger guy Christian (had a deep soothing voice made for radio) and the captain were great! Obviously done it a ton. They ran through procedure and made me more confident. Husband and I went third out of four couples. Launch was easy! We went up to around 1200 feet. It was so quiet up there. And not as windy as we expected. Couldn't even hear the boat. Back was just fine. I did great .... Till we started to come in. The harness made some snapping and whipping sounds with significant jerks that really freaked me out. Landing easy also. Turned out those noises were perfectly normal. And my only tip here is they should tell people to expect it on the way down. Would totally do this again. read more

I was sitting by the pool looking out into the beautiful ocean when I...what is that I see? People parasailing?! I watched for about the next hour while soaking in the sun and decided I wanted to try it too. I looked it up online and booked it right there on the spot! It stated on the website you can do 1, 2, or 3 people but must be less than 450 pounds total. If you are a single rider, you must be at least 160 pounds. Since I'm not 160 pounds, I convinced my husband to do it with me. He was a little reluctant as parasailing combines both of his biggest fears...heights and water. They sent over a confirmation with clear instructions guiding us where to meet them the next morning. I filled out my waiver online ahead of time and was ready to go the next morning! There were 8 of us on the boat and each group was in the air for about 10 minutes. The views up there were just amazing and took my breath away. Surprisingly, it was a very peaceful and calm experience. You have the option of getting your toes and legs a little wet if you want or you can ask them to not let you near the water. We also opted for the extra photo package which was $29 and included a memory card filled with photos of us - totally worth it. The crew on board were amazing as well. They were friendly, kept us on schedule, and made us feel comfortable. Make sure to tip your crew! It was a fun experience and I would recommend it to anyone! It's a lot less scary than you think! read more

We went today, 6/12/24 and it was an amazing time!!! The staff are great! There is a difference between the boats, there is the "A" team Casey and Don went out of their way to make it the most amazing experience ever. Don't be confused with the "B" team who I'm sure is ok, but the "A" has a amazing music selection playing while on the boat and even let my kids ride twice, one with me and once with my wife!!! Best staff, great customer service !!! Military discounts as well, don't forget to ask! read more

This was a fun experience. The 2 gentlemen running the boat were so friendly and focused on safety which I appreciated. We felt that even though we were sharing the ride with other couples, it still felt very intimate and not over crowded. Not to mention being that high in the air over Kona was just breathtaking. The only negative we had was that finding the umbrella on the dock was difficult. They should say "walk all the way down the dock and then start looking for the umbrella". We passed a bunch of umbrellas and thought we were in the wrong place. Luckily we just kept walking and finally found them. read more

OMG!! How sweet was this experience. Captain Ty and Crew Member Doc were just the best. They had the best tunes and great vibes! Our dad has Parkinson's and has a hard time getting around. Doc did a great job instructing and assisting him get on and off the boat safely. Captain Ty even let us put his wheel chair in the truck. From the first moments they were friendly and humorous. They had an amazing banter and a relaxed, playful attitude, while also being very professional and down to business when it was time. The flight itself was next level. Planning ahead for the smoothest take off. The ride was out of this world (pun intended). Captain Ty was awesome at slowing down, speeding up, and turning to give a fun ride. It never felt sketchy. We went up and down and had a blast. Even dunked at the end. It was good energy all around. There was a younger girl (not in our party) who started to get scared when her turn got closer and they both did a great job in managing her feelings and helping her feel comfortable and as safe as possible. The 9 minute ride felt longer so I would say don't even worry about it feeling short. read more

Incredible! Captain Ty and crew Doc were cool, calm, collected and knew what they were doing. They made this experience so awesome that we went twice! The parasailing itself was so relaxing and beautiful. The boat ride was fun and interesting with good music. Doc knew how to get everyone into their harnesses and lifejackets and everything was done safely and securely. I really enjoyed this experience and would recommend it to anyone! My girlfriend has been waiting to parasail for years now. I have always been scared of heights. I finally told her I would go with her. When I booked it, it says 1200 feet. It's 1200 feet of rope but you're only 500 feet up in sky. When taking off it's little nerve racking. Once you're up in the sky, it's like another world up at top. No wind and can't hear anything. It's VERY peaceful and relaxing. I overcame my fear of heights. 100% highly recommend. Staff was awesome and respectful. I wouldn't hesitate to book again with UFO parasailing. read more

Established in 1985.

UFO Parasail is a company that started on Maui in 1985, bringing new and exciting ocean experiences to the island's many visitors. The company is owned and operated by Greg and Rich VanderLaan, both graduates of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and both holding BS degrees in Nautical Engineering and U.S. Coast Guard licenses. Today UFO Parasail/UFO Adventures operate 5 boats on Maui and also has operations on the Big Island, and on New Zealand's Bay of Islands. Moreover, the VanderLaan brothers have invented much of the technology that makes the UFO Parasail winch boats among the most popular and best in the world. The men were rude, condescending, and I felt bullied into making the reservation. If there was an actual reason for why they do it the way they do, that would have been helpful to know instead of them just talking over me and demanding my information. Also the explanation of "it would take longer to look up your reservation number" honestly just communicates laziness to me. So there IS some sort of reservation database you COULD pull it up from, you just don't want to do it? That alone says a lot about the kind of business he runs. He also made our anniversary feel extra special by providing a fresh seafood lunch with fish he had caught himself, which was such a thoughtful and unexpected touch. The tour was about 3.5 to 4 hours total. From the marina, it was roughly a 10 minute boat ride to the snorkel spot. The ride itself was very comfortable. There is some shade on the boat, but it's not fully covered, so definitely bring solid sun protection. A long sleeve rash guard or sun shirt is a good idea. On the way out, we saw a few whales in the distance and once we were in the water, we could actually hear them singing. It was surreal and honestly kind of magical. The snorkel location itself was beautiful, with several sea turtles, tons of fish, and colorful coral. There was only one other boat nearby, so it felt remote and almost private rather than crowded or rushed. Hunter, our snorkel guide, was relaxed and helpful, and we were able to move at our own pace which made the whole experience feel unhurried and personalized. We didn't get to see any whales up close unfortunately, they just weren't cooperating that day, but even hearing them underwater was something we won't forget. Matt was friendly, down to earth, and clearly passionate about what he does. He offers both land and water tours, and we appreciated the local perspective woven throughout the experience. If you're looking for a more intimate, locally run excursion instead of a large crowded boat tour, I would absolutely recommend Liquid Hawaii.

Captain Vasi and Azure were amazing and fun throughout our excursion. Their love and respect for the mantas came through and was contagious. My 9 year old daughter was feeling anxious about jumping into the water off the boat and they were both patient and kind. She ended up loving the experience! Bucket list experience for us all!

Groupon times were very late and also cost an additional fee for the "manta guarantee", which is unclear that it costs more. It actually says you get the manta guarantee "for FREE" on the Groupon but that it only applies to certain bookings. This is misleading. Then it says to call the office to get more info on this insurance but again it was extremely difficult to reach anyone initially... The crew was amazing. We didn't see mantas on our first tour, but we were rebooked for the next day. Jake was very nice and amazing with communication, providing info, and renting us our wetsuit shirts. Erica and Kua were great captains and made us feel safe and welcome. Cody and Greg were knowledgeable and caring. All of the crew deserves 5 stars. This company has a lot of potential, but there needs to be some administrative improvements. This company needs a better system for getting in contact with them at first... like setting up a voicemail box or simply texting back after you call them at their office phone number. If someone had a question regarding accessibility, safety, or a concern, the likelihood of having actual helpful communication with the office seems slim. I urge management to come up with better systems so this crew can continue doing an amazing job. If you book directly online, you won't be disappointed. The crew members are passionate about what they do and we really loved it.

They also rent life jackets if you need that. This tour is definitely geared toward people who are comfortable swimming and being on an open-air boat. If you're nervous in the water or can't swim or prefer a more relaxed boat ride, this isn't it. If you're looking for excitement, it's hard to beat. What really made the experience special were the crew members. Our captain and lifeguard were laid-back, friendly, and made everyone feel safe while keeping the atmosphere fun. The highlight for me was racing along the coastline at nearly 50 knots, bouncing across the waves and taking in incredible views of the island. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I was very scared at first but all four of use decided to take the plunge! I would recommend getting the whole thing videoed in the package price. Our boat drivers were very fun! They played some great music and even went out of their way to take us to see a pack of nearby dolphins! That was my first experience seeing a baby dolphin in the water learning to jump. Once you are up in the air the experience is very smooth, I would even say that the boat ride was bumper than the flight itself! Go on a clear day when the VOG isn't so bad:) read more

We had an amazing time. Dusty (from Maui) and Captain Rob made our experience fun and comfortable. I'm afraid of the water (not a swimmer) and I don't like riding in a plane and here I was suggesting to my family let's go parasailing, youngest is 6 years old. Of course me and my 2 daughters went first, because well of course they knew I was the most nervous lol. But they've made this experience so fun and unforgettable. We loved it! UFO Parasailing is the most Amazing experience I ever had. My mom(69) and daughter (17) went up together and my husband and I went up. Captain Rob and Dusty(from Maui) were absolutely wonderful. They were so nice and gentle with my Mom who isn't in great health. They both deserve major Kuddo's. My mom and I were so nervous but they made it so easy.
