We had to reschedule our hike day..due to the Kona low and the office staff were more than helpful. This is not our first hike with Hike Maui... we've come to Maui for the past 50 years..37 times to be exact... and Hike Maui is our go to during the past 20 years when we want to get out into the rainforest. We have taken three of their "Morning Walks" with our grandkids and it's a perfect introduction to hiking. Honestly we've had three different ...wonderful.. experiences. It's not strenuous and you're taken back to some private land that you'd not have access to if you just drove up and parked (if you found a parking spot) and hiked back in. We were lucky to have the lovely, fun, and knowledgeable guide named Randolyn ..aka Ran. She was the perfect blend of kind, patient and engaging with the grandkids, and very helpful with us old folks! I wasn't sure what to expect. Michael was a priceless guide to the natural world and he is a great host and calming presence. I was worried it would be hot, but I was never hot or cold because there's shade and swimming. The hike was pretty challenging due to uneven terrain, mud, loose rocks, and creek crossing but easy in terms of distance and pace. This was the highlight of my trip. read more

I would give 10 stars if I had the choice. This was an easy Rainforest walk package with a little adventure of diving and swimming in the water added in, if you wanted to that is - no force. Brian was just soo fun, and soo informative. He balanced all our interests absolutely wonderfully, it was just amazing. The kid was thrilled with the his dino costume (Oh my god! the costume, he wore it on the Entire trip except when jumping off the rocks ofcourse), the adult in the other group with all the geological tectonics knowledge that flowed like an uninterrupted volcano from his mouth...non stop, and me with all the native plant life info. The Hala tree amazed me and so did the big red flower- torch ginger, which actually looks like a vibrant staff fit for a king. I would never have learnt about them in detail if not for this trip. All this besides the actual trip to the waterfalls, the encouragement he gave to the other group was astounding (I don't swim myself unfortunately, or the fun would have tripled for me). He supported, guided, advised, and made them have the time of their life with the diving and the swimming. Three cheers to the B.Rex. Hike Maui site itself had useful info for the walk and I brought the water shoes after reading about it on their site, it really worked great out there. Pick up was right on time and the directions were pretty clear, but u could have mentioned near Kahului Park and Ride, I mistook the 8 min drive for 8 min walk, and walked up from my hotel ! Hike Maui arranged for backpacks and that was very useful too. To just it throw it on our shoulders and walk freely. The little snacks were good after the walk. The best part was the passion fruit which was handed out as a parting gift. It was my first time to eat that fruit too. Note: The waterfalls are accessible privately with rental car too. You could explore the area in your own sweet time. But I did notice there were not many signs with specific directions inside the forest. And no labels on the plants. Most places no mobile signals either. That said, you could do it on your own. I cannot say enough about this trip. It is for all ages and a great little Maui to explore comfortably. The hike was awesome, so much to see walking through the rainforest. It was great going with Hike Maui because they have access to areas you can't get to on your own, or wouldn't even know about. Michael was an absolute vibe! His knowledge of different edible plants and flowers was awesome! Our guide, Joel, was fantastic. He determined the hike based on our skillset and I would say the hike was mostly moderate with several elements of difficulties. We arm linked and walked sideways through 3 raging waterfall which was over our ankles. There were also several very steep sections. Joel provided great guidance and made sure everyone was safe. You do get very muddy - we wore hard soled water shoes and did okay, but hiking water sandals would have been better. If you show up in tennis shoes expect them to get completely ruined. read more

Momo was our guide and she was fantastic and very knowledgable about the flora and fauna as well as any other topic we brought her way. We were a multigenerational family ranging from 6mo old to 73 years old and she made sure every single one of us felt comfortable and had fun. She came on time to pick us up from our hotel in a large roomy van and was fully prepared with a car seat and two boosters She taught us so much on the way to the hike. Once there, we were given snacks, a clean restroom, and backpacks and supplies for our hike. On our hike she had us taste various berries and flowers. This was a beautiful hike through rugged Maui complete with waterfalls, swimming trails and delicious fruit trees. You must have a bathing suit and shoes that can get wet. Hiking in your swimsuit is easiest as there are many areas to cool off and swim and walking trails through water and mud. read more

My teen daughter and I went on the Waterfall & Rainforest Hiking Adventure in March. Directions to parking location were clear. Transportation to the hiking site was clean and comfortable. The location was beautiful and our guide was very knowledgeable about the local area. She pointed out local flowers and fruits, even provided some samples of this those that were safe to eat. We hiked to different waterfalls and those who were brave enough jumped in! A sandwich, snacks, water and backpack were supplied. Bug spray and ponchos also available if needed. We booked a hike for my family of 4. Gail was our tour guide and she was amazing. She picked us up from our hotel and greeted us with a smile. Once everyone was picked up she was telling us all about Maui. She was very knowledgeable about everything (history, plants, animals, ext). My husband wanted to do a rainforest waterfall hike while we were in Maui. I booked Hike Maui thru our concierge. Unfortunately, the night before the hike my husband got a stomach bug so it was me and my 3 kids. We aren't the most adventurous so I wasn't sure how it would go, but willing to try. Michael, our guide, picked us up at our hotel about 15 min late. I was worried something got messed up with our reservation, but I think he got a bit behind picking up the other family from a nearby resort. It was about an hour drive to the rainforest and Michael did his best to keep us entertained with introductions and some fun facts about Miami. He was a great guide from the first minute. We each took a backpack courtesy of hike Maui filled with a pre ordered lunch (ex pb&j), water and ponchos. I decided to skip the ponchos since we would get wet anyway, but regretted it when the downpour started a few min later. We walked to the first waterfall and the kids had fun swimming and exploring. After that my youngest decided he was done yet there were 2 more waterfalls to see. And when my youngest is "done" there are typically no negotiations. Michael showed us to a food stand and told us to wait at a nearby bench and he would finish up with my older 2 kids and the other family. We enjoyed pineapple smoothies, banana bread and chased around some chickens to keep busy for 1.5 hours and then they came back- happy, dirty and tired. Overall, everyone had fun...even my youngest, but one waterfall was enough for him. We got pretty dirty and muddy and I wish we had worn keens based on what our sneakers looked like after, but it was a fun day of memories. read more

Our guide Dave was very knowledgeable about the island and gave us some great information which why we gave it 3 stars. Unfortunately this was definitely not worth the cost. Lunch and snacks provided were basically a 3rd grader lunch ( crappy "turkey" on wonder bread or pb and j on wonder bread & a mini size bag of Cheetos or Doritos). The actual hike was less than 2 miles and we basically walked in circles to burn time. The waterfalls were nice but nothing we haven't seen before on other islands.
