We had to reschedule our hike day..due to the Kona low and the office staff were more than helpful. This is not our first hike with Hike Maui... we've come to Maui for the past 50 years..37 times to be exact... and Hike Maui is our go to during the past 20 years when we want to get out into the rainforest. We have taken three of their "Morning Walks" with our grandkids and it's a perfect introduction to hiking. Honestly we've had three different ...wonderful.. experiences. It's not strenuous and you're taken back to some private land that you'd not have access to if you just drove up and parked (if you found a parking spot) and hiked back in. We were lucky to have the lovely, fun, and knowledgeable guide named Randolyn ..aka Ran. She was the perfect blend of kind, patient and engaging with the grandkids, and very helpful with us old folks! I would give 10 stars if I had the choice. This was an easy Rainforest walk package with a little adventure of diving and swimming in the water added in, if you wanted to that is - no force. Brian was just soo fun, and soo informative. He balanced all our interests absolutely wonderfully, it was just amazing. The kid was thrilled with the his dino costume (Oh my god! the costume, he wore it on the Entire trip except when jumping off the rocks ofcourse), the adult in the other group with all the geological tectonics knowledge that flowed like an uninterrupted volcano from his mouth...non stop, and me with all the native plant life info. The Hala tree amazed me and so did the big red flower- torch ginger, which actually looks like a vibrant staff fit for a king. I would never have learnt about them in detail if not for this trip. All this besides the actual trip to the waterfalls, the encouragement he gave to the other group was astounding (I don't swim myself unfortunately, or the fun would have tripled for me). He supported, guided, advised, and made them have the time of their life with the diving and the swimming. Three cheers to the B.Rex. Hike Maui site itself had useful info for the walk and I brought the water shoes after reading about it on their site, it really worked great out there. Pick up was right on time and the directions were pretty clear, but u could have mentioned near Kahului Park and Ride, I mistook the 8 min drive for 8 min walk, and walked up from my hotel ! Hike Maui arranged for backpacks and that was very useful too. To just it throw it on our shoulders and walk freely. The little snacks were good after the walk. The best part was the passion fruit which was handed out as a parting gift. It was my first time to eat that fruit too. Note: The waterfalls are accessible privately with rental car too. You could explore the area in your own sweet time. But I did notice there were not many signs with specific directions inside the forest. And no labels on the plants. Most places no mobile signals either. That said, you could do it on your own. I cannot say enough about this trip. It is for all ages and a great little Maui to explore comfortably. This was a beautiful hike through rugged Maui complete with waterfalls, swimming trails and delicious fruit trees. You must have a bathing suit and shoes that can get wet. Hiking in your swimsuit is easiest as there are many areas to cool off and swim and walking trails through water and mud. read more

Our guide Dave was very knowledgeable about the island and gave us some great information which why we gave it 3 stars. Unfortunately this was definitely not worth the cost. Lunch and snacks provided were basically a 3rd grader lunch ( crappy "turkey" on wonder bread or pb and j on wonder bread & a mini size bag of Cheetos or Doritos). The actual hike was less than 2 miles and we basically walked in circles to burn time. The waterfalls were nice but nothing we haven't seen before on other islands. Once everyone was picked up she was telling us all about Maui. She was very knowledgeable about everything (history, plants, animals, ext). Did the rainforest waterfall hike yesterday and had an amazing time! Naomi was a wonderful guide and was so knowledgeable about Hawaiian history, culture, and the environment. I went with my husband and two daughters and everyone enjoyed themselves. It was not an aggressive hike with plenty of great stops along the way. A highlight was cliff jumping at the waterfall. Hike Maui has all of the provisions you may need from water to insect repellent to ponchos. What I didn't realize before the hike was that we got to access waterfalls and areas that you need a permit to see. My husband wanted to do a rainforest waterfall hike while we were in Maui. I booked Hike Maui thru our concierge. Unfortunately, the night before the hike my husband got a stomach bug so it was me and my 3 kids. We aren't the most adventurous so I wasn't sure how it would go, but willing to try. Michael, our guide, picked us up at our hotel about 15 min late. I was worried something got messed up with our reservation, but I think he got a bit behind picking up the other family from a nearby resort. It was about an hour drive to the rainforest and Michael did his best to keep us entertained with introductions and some fun facts about Miami. He was a great guide from the first minute. We each took a backpack courtesy of hike Maui filled with a pre ordered lunch (ex pb&j), water and ponchos. I decided to skip the ponchos since we would get wet anyway, but regretted it when the downpour started a few min later. We walked to the first waterfall and the kids had fun swimming and exploring. After that my youngest decided he was done yet there were 2 more waterfalls to see. And when my youngest is "done" there are typically no negotiations. Michael showed us to a food stand and told us to wait at a nearby bench and he would finish up with my older 2 kids and the other family. We enjoyed pineapple smoothies, banana bread and chased around some chickens to keep busy for 1.5 hours and then they came back- happy, dirty and tired. Overall, everyone had fun...even my youngest, but one waterfall was enough for him. We got pretty dirty and muddy and I wish we had worn keens based on what our sneakers looked like after, but it was a fun day of memories. read more

We did the full day Hana experience for our Anniversary. It was a last minute booking that we squeezed in on our stay in Maui. The last time I've been on the road to Hana was in 1980. Enrique was our guide, he was very knowledgeable about the history and culture of Maui. The ride is winding and some areas only 1 vehicle could pass. I recommend taking a Dramamine prior. Enrique was a very safe driver and tried to make the ride as comfortable as possible. The views along the way are well worth the drive. Enrique had snacks, water and lunch prepared for the day trip. Once arriving at the hike, he gave us ponchos and hiking sticks to assist us. The hike is not to strenuous it was 1.8 miles one way. The end goal was Waimoku Falls which was beautiful. The ride back we had time to stop at Puaa Kaa State Wayside Park to see the waterfall and Ho' Okipa Beach Park to see the turtles covering the beach. Private waterfall experience unique to Maui. We've done two experiences with Hike Maui and both were incredible. The guides are super informative and take you to three different waterfall areas to jump and play. Each hike is tailored to the participants level. We were able to jump from all three spots and two of those were quite high jumps - 15 or so feet up! This remains a core memory for my kids and something we came back to do with more family members after having such an amazing first time. Our guide Brian was super friendly and knowledgeable about Hawaii's climate, plants and animals and culture too.The ride in the van was comfortable and chill. Amazing experience!! It all started with our guide, Enrique (we call him Rocco because he is family to us now). He is AMAZING!! As soon as we walked up to the van, his positive energy was infectious. He was funny and made us feel comfortable. He was SO informative on every question we had. The hike, which was much more like a nature walk, taught us a ton about the flora and fauna. Rocco was always cautious and caring as we crossed streams and climbed rocks to jump off the waterfalls into really cool natural pools. My family (my wife, myself, and our 7 yo) went on a small(er) hike toward the beginning of the Road to Hana - with the highlight being two waterfalls. Our guide was Des and she was terrific. She was enthusiastic, incredibly knowledgeable, and - most importantly - an excellent communicator when it came to Maui history and the flora and fauna we encountered. She was also a great photographer, using all kinds of camera tricks to really capture the majesty of the trek -- way beyond what we'd get from crowded selfies. The hike was just our speed (low effort) and offered plenty of opportunities for fun experiences -- I jumped off a cliff.
