We had to reschedule our hike day..due to the Kona low and the office staff were more than helpful. This is not our first hike with Hike Maui... we've come to Maui for the past 50 years..37 times to be exact... and Hike Maui is our go to during the past 20 years when we want to get out into the rainforest. We have taken three of their "Morning Walks" with our grandkids and it's a perfect introduction to hiking. Honestly we've had three different ...wonderful.. experiences. It's not strenuous and you're taken back to some private land that you'd not have access to if you just drove up and parked (if you found a parking spot) and hiked back in. Michael was an absolute vibe! His knowledge of different edible plants and flowers was awesome! He told great stories about Hawaiian folklore and was so kind to everyone on the tour, but especially our kids. I would give 10 stars if I had the choice. This was an easy Rainforest walk package with a little adventure of diving and swimming in the water added in, if you wanted to that is - no force. Brian was just soo fun, and soo informative. He balanced all our interests absolutely wonderfully, it was just amazing. The kid was thrilled with the his dino costume (Oh my god! the costume, he wore it on the Entire trip except when jumping off the rocks ofcourse), the adult in the other group with all the geological tectonics knowledge that flowed like an uninterrupted volcano from his mouth...non stop, and me with all the native plant life info. The Hala tree amazed me and so did the big red flower- torch ginger, which actually looks like a vibrant staff fit for a king. I would never have learnt about them in detail if not for this trip. All this besides the actual trip to the waterfalls, the encouragement he gave to the other group was astounding (I don't swim myself unfortunately, or the fun would have tripled for me). He supported, guided, advised, and made them have the time of their life with the diving and the swimming. Three cheers to the B.Rex. Hike Maui site itself had useful info for the walk and I brought the water shoes after reading about it on their site, it really worked great out there. Pick up was right on time and the directions were pretty clear, but u could have mentioned near Kahului Park and Ride, I mistook the 8 min drive for 8 min walk, and walked up from my hotel ! Hike Maui arranged for backpacks and that was very useful too. To just it throw it on our shoulders and walk freely. The little snacks were good after the walk. The best part was the passion fruit which was handed out as a parting gift. It was my first time to eat that fruit too. Note: The waterfalls are accessible privately with rental car too. You could explore the area in your own sweet time. But I did notice there were not many signs with specific directions inside the forest. And no labels on the plants. Most places no mobile signals either. That said, you could do it on your own. I cannot say enough about this trip. It is for all ages and a great little Maui to explore comfortably. This was a beautiful hike through rugged Maui complete with waterfalls, swimming trails and delicious fruit trees. You must have a bathing suit and shoes that can get wet. Hiking in your swimsuit is easiest as there are many areas to cool off and swim and walking trails through water and mud. read more

My teen daughter and I went on the Waterfall & Rainforest Hiking Adventure in March. Directions to parking location were clear. Transportation to the hiking site was clean and comfortable. The location was beautiful and our guide was very knowledgeable about the local area. She pointed out local flowers and fruits, even provided some samples of this those that were safe to eat. We booked a hike for my family of 4. Gail was our tour guide and she was amazing. She picked us up from our hotel and greeted us with a smile. Once everyone was picked up she was telling us all about Maui. She was very knowledgeable about everything (history, plants, animals, ext). Once we got to the hiking trail she did a great job finding cool things to stop and show us. We got to try many delicious treats she found. The trails were beautiful. Our guide Dave was very knowledgeable about the island and gave us some great information which why we gave it 3 stars. Unfortunately this was definitely not worth the cost. Lunch and snacks provided were basically a 3rd grader lunch ( crappy "turkey" on wonder bread or pb and j on wonder bread & a mini size bag of Cheetos or Doritos). The actual hike was less than 2 miles and we basically walked in circles to burn time. The waterfalls were nice but nothing we haven't seen before on other islands. This is something anyone could do on their own if you stay on the trails and follow the signs. read more

My husband wanted to do a rainforest waterfall hike while we were in Maui. I booked Hike Maui thru our concierge. Unfortunately, the night before the hike my husband got a stomach bug so it was me and my 3 kids. We aren't the most adventurous so I wasn't sure how it would go, but willing to try. Michael, our guide, picked us up at our hotel about 15 min late. I was worried something got messed up with our reservation, but I think he got a bit behind picking up the other family from a nearby resort. It was about an hour drive to the rainforest and Michael did his best to keep us entertained with introductions and some fun facts about Miami. He was a great guide from the first minute. We each took a backpack courtesy of hike Maui filled with a pre ordered lunch (ex pb&j), water and ponchos. I decided to skip the ponchos since we would get wet anyway, but regretted it when the downpour started a few min later. We walked to the first waterfall and the kids had fun swimming and exploring. After that my youngest decided he was done yet there were 2 more waterfalls to see. And when my youngest is "done" there are typically no negotiations. Michael showed us to a food stand and told us to wait at a nearby bench and he would finish up with my older 2 kids and the other family. We enjoyed pineapple smoothies, banana bread and chased around some chickens to keep busy for 1.5 hours and then they came back- happy, dirty and tired. Overall, everyone had fun...even my youngest, but one waterfall was enough for him. We got pretty dirty and muddy and I wish we had worn keens based on what our sneakers looked like after, but it was a fun day of memories. read more

Did the rainforest waterfall hike yesterday and had an amazing time! Naomi was a wonderful guide and was so knowledgeable about Hawaiian history, culture, and the environment. I went with my husband and two daughters and everyone enjoyed themselves. It was not an aggressive hike with plenty of great stops along the way. A highlight was cliff jumping at the waterfall. Hike Maui has all of the provisions you may need from water to insect repellent to ponchos. What I didn't realize before the hike was that we got to access waterfalls and areas that you need a permit to see. Definitely well worth the money and we would do another Hike Maui trip in the future. read more

We did the full day Hana experience for our Anniversary. It was a last minute booking that we squeezed in on our stay in Maui. The last time I've been on the road to Hana was in 1980. Enrique was our guide, he was very knowledgeable about the history and culture of Maui. The ride is winding and some areas only 1 vehicle could pass. I recommend taking a Dramamine prior. Enrique was a very safe driver and tried to make the ride as comfortable as possible. The views along the way are well worth the drive. Enrique had snacks, water and lunch prepared for the day trip. Once arriving at the hike, he gave us ponchos and hiking sticks to assist us. The hike is not to strenuous it was 1.8 miles one way. The end goal was Waimoku Falls which was beautiful. The ride back we had time to stop at Puaa Kaa State Wayside Park to see the waterfall and Ho' Okipa Beach Park to see the turtles covering the beach. Overall, my wife and I are satisfied with the excursion and would recommend it to others. read more

We did the waterfalls hike with Allison as our guide. Allison was amazing -- a super-chill surfer-girl turned botanist, naturalist and historian! She was an endless font of interesting information on the flora, fauna, history and current culture of Hawaii. Her enthusiasm and love for Hawaii is contagious ---even to my two teenagers! When I booked this trip, I was wondering if I could do these hikes on my own and find these waterfalls. The waterfalls seem to be partially on private land. It's not totally clear what parts are private and what parts are public. But it doesn't matter, because even if it was all on public land there is NO WAY I could find these sites. The trails are completely unmarked. Additionally, Allison advised us on what was safe and what was not safe. We went after a day of heavy rains so some of the sites were not safe for cliff-jumping or going into the water. We enjoyed it all just the same. The sites were very beautiful, particularly the site called "The Cave" which is a waterfall that goes over a large cave beneath it. A great trip!! Thank you Allison! read more
