5 Stars for a great salad in a mall food hall- who would'a thunk! I was at the Florida Mall and looking for a healthy lunch option nearby. Luckily, Yelp led me right the the food court for a salad at Ugrean! I'm still in shock that this option was available, and the portions and quality. I opted to build my own salad and picked arugula, kale, quinoa, chickpeas, pesto, and tofu. They put the ingredients into a large bowl and mixed it all up before serving it in a to-go container. I *love* when salad places do this because the dressing and toppings are super well distributed. Big plus! Also, they didn't skimp! This salad could've lasted for two meals- and the tofu was huge and plentiful! It is wag at appeared to be raw tofu, so be sure to get a good dressing that imparts flavor, but a non-meat high protein option is always a hit in my book! They also have salads you can choose from if you're not great at making your own combinations, along with meat protein options and plenty of veggies. Stars are for the price and customer service, and the fact that all of the food is very fresh. That being said, every part of my salad (besides the bleu cheese), lacked flavor. I spent most of the time looking for pieces of bleu cheese to combine with the chicken, lettuce, and onions to bring some sort of taste. The chicken was just that, grilled chicken. This is the 2nd time I have eaten at Ugrean and have chosen the Vegan Cesar Salad. All of their ingredients are fresh as far as veggie options. Not sure about the proteins like the chicken and fish; those appear to be pre-cooked. I can tell you that I ordered falafels and the guy was just coming out with hot and fresh ones! Who doesn't love hot and fresh? I was not disappointed. There are various options here for making your own salad or you can choose from their menu of their signature salads...like I said, I chose the Vegan Cesar and loved it. Every time I go to the Florida Mall I hit this place up in the food court. It's one of the few options to get a healthy meal that's also very delicious. You can get virtually any kind of salad and there's tons of toppings to choose from as well as different proteins from shrimp to tofu, and chicken and steak. The options may be overwhelming so there's also a preset menu Of traditional salads you can choose from. On my last visit I opted to get a blend of Romain and kale and top it with a hard-boiled egg, chickpeas, walnuts, quinoa, tomatoes and Caesar dressing. For my protein I got chicken. My salad was so delicious and absolutely huge. Everything was super fresh and the chicken was very flavorful and tender. It's kind of costly at about $14 for a salad but when I tell you that I ate so much and had the same amount left over for the next days lunchI'm not even kidding. I also got a Ugreen juice that Pineapple banana kale and other things I can't remember. It was a little sweet for my taste as I prefer my green Juice to taste a little more on the green side but this is a great option for people that like it sweeter and do not like to taste the kale. The concept is simple pick a base of greens and go along the line while employees add items you'd like at each station. I picked mixed greens and spinach. The second is toppings I picked strawberries, tortilla chips, feta cheese, walnuts. I selected Caesar dressing and with 10 or so salmon filets staring at me it was hard not to ask for one. I was told by a manager the salmon was wild caught and not farm raised (kudos to Ugrean for offering that) The end of line is large fruit cup area with pineapples, strawberries and other items available for purchase. I chowed down on the salad I created and it was delicious. Ugrean is a great concept serving very large portioned salads. I paid $13-14 with salmon added. I complimented management on their establishment, appeal and fresh food offerings before leaving but they acted like they'd heard it all before. I LOVE the create your own salad concept, and think it's a great addition to the not-so-healthy (pack-on-the-pounds) usual fare of the mall. Since the remodel, I have noticed a change in cuisine at the mall. For healthy, however , U grean takes the cake...er....Kale. They have different proteins to top your salad with, ranging from tofu,chicken, seafood and steak. You pick two base items, between greens or rice (I usually do spring mix and brown rice) and build on that with fresh produce toppings. After you pick your four toppings, the dressing is added and the salad builder tosses everything together in a large bowl. The proteins can be placed on top, or mixed into the salad (I like them being mixed in). The final product is placed into your serving bowl and ready to be enjoyed. You'll start at one end and order either an option that's already listed on the board, or custom make your own. I went with the salmon salad, which had mixed spring greens, kalmata olives, feta cheese, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, olive oil and lime juice, topped off with fresh salmon. I grabbed a bottled water at the end. It was $15. Watching your food be made is fun since you can see exactly what you're getting. Everything looked super fresh. They have a good selection of topping to choose from including quinoa :) I usually add half an avocado for $0.50 extra. It's chock full of many choices for greens, fresh veggies, fruits, and proteins. The portions are generous. I ordered a custom salad with chicken as my protein choice and it was a reasonable $9.99. You can customize even further with other ingredients for a small fee. I added avocado, egg, and some brown rice and with tax, it came to about $14. You start off by picking your base which is two items like kale, brown rice, spinach, mixed greens, etc. Then you choose four toppings like carrots, feta, quinoa, shaved parm, avocado (.50 more), and can add one of the various dressings... there are a LOT of options. Then you can choose to add a protein for an additional charge. I added salmon for an additional $6 but it was a nice piece of freshly cooked salmon. The only downside was the price. Located in the Florida Mall food court, I probably looked down my nose at Ugrean four or five times before finally being fed up with the vegetarian/vegan offerings at the other establishments. I really should've come here sooner. My salad was super, and I do not say that about salads often! You choose your base from the various types of greens they have, or rice. You can choose two varieties. Then you add 4 toppings from a wide selection, which is not limited to vegetarian toppings. They include various meats or falafel or tofu. Finally, you select your dressing, which includes several vegan dressings. I chose spinach and arugula as my base; beets, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and black olives as my toppings; tofu as my protein; and vegan caesar dressing. They toss everything together before adding it to your bowl. First, the fact that they toss the salad before serving makes a big difference. Perfect proportions of dressing to contents. Second, the tofu! I can't tell you how many places offer up tofu in a half-hearted attempt to please the plant-eaters and do nothing with it. Not here! The tofu was marinated in a delicious flavor and served warm. Yummy! Finally, their vegan caesar dressing was amazing! And, according to the man behind the counter, is made in-house! I'm going to be needing that recipe, sir! This is a great option for the plant-based diners at the mall. Far superior to a veggie delite sub from Subway, let me tell you. The salad tastes excellent as the portion size was always fair for he price. Even with the mall discount seems fair. I looked at the portion size of the salmon and since the owner wants to save money, he reduced the portion size. Meanwhile other restaurants in the shopping center pay less and have more. I have never heard of pesto as a dressing and was very happy that she gave me a sample....without me having to ask. I went with the pesto and was super happy for a different taste.
