I don't like to go to doctors in general and the experience of the past three days reminds me why…read more There is apparently no "standards" in standard of care anymore or maybe I just don't know what that means. I've had severe, almost unrelenting pain radiating from my neck down my entire left arm with most pain localized in my arm/elbow area. Started over the weekend and got bad enough that I went to this urgent care Monday night. They did provide a prompt exam and cardiac work-up which wasn't conclusive so recommended I go to the ER because my blood pressure was "crazy" (165/110) as described by the PA that saw me. I also filled out paperwork to set up a primary care provider here before I left. Went to the ER Monday night (UIHC Iowa City - another place to avoid!) and after five hours to certify that I wasn't having heart issues, I was discharged with likely cervical nerve pinched or damaged. Despite the pain I was experiencing, the University of Iowa ER wouldn't even give me a Tylenol while I waited or before sending me home. Wednesday (2 days later) I go to PT at the University for my first appointment. Too much pain to do anything beyond applying a TENS unit at max power for 10 minutes with no relief. They send me back to my primary care provider because they state that I need something strong to get the pain under control. So, I go back to this Mercy "Urgent Care" in North Liberty and my primary care account isn't set up yet or something (pain makes it hard to concentrate) AND the best they can do is set up an appointment for me the following Monday!!! WTF is "urgent care" when they don't even screen your vitals, see you with tears on your face from the blinding pain and again, can't even offer you the medication you were sent there to recieve?!? Now I'm home, searching for the gabapentin the vet prescribed for our dog (one of the meds they mentioned at the PT appointment) and will have to use WebMD to find out what dose I should take. Maybe I'll find some old leftover opiates in the medicine cabinet somewhere, again, on my own to determine how to live with this pain for another 5-6 days. Thanks for NOTHING!!!

We have the best healthcare in the USA right here in Iowa City, and at our age, this is the highest priority. We especially appreciate the blood drawing staff at the IRL Laboratory. They are the best anywhere in the UIHC system. We appreciate the main hospital staff who are willing to come to the clinics of IRL. A huge thank you to the entire IRL staff.

Not only that, but to live minutes away from this location is a Godsend-- as I do NOT have to go to the main hospital for them to get the care they need. (Eek, I get the heebie-jeebies just thinking about navigating the parking and elevators.) Additionally, there is free parking at the IRL location. The staff is friendly here. The doctors are top notch. The building itself is well maintained and updated. I love the art throughout, as well. Absolutely no complaints. The fam popped in for flu shots and COVID boosters a few weeks ago (which I conveniently booked online via My Chart) and we got in with a minimal wait. The nurse was wonderful. Going to the doctor isn't always painless-- but this location helps make it more so.

She's easy to talk to, a good listener and answers questions before I even thought to ask them! We moved 100 miles away from her office 11 years ago and I still drive the 100 miles to see her as my health care provider. I'll never regret the drive. They have HUMANS that answer their calls, they KNOW me and remember me. They have office staff that has been there for years! They RETURN a call if need be, they refill prescriptions with ease and NO confusion to the pharmacy attached to their office in very quick fashion at the Amana pharmacy, which is another hidden GEM in the healthcare environment. I can get in possibly the day I call but if not the actual day, most likely the next day. This office is VERY BUSY but they care for their patients who need to be seen. Sara takes the time to know her patients and you never feel rushed. She is so intelligent, informed and compassionate. You'll never find a more CARING medical professional than Sara Schneiders or an office staff that cares as much as Amana Family Clinic. They truly are phenomenal!

I had communicated to all the staff and administration that I had just died and was turning into an adult, therefore super sick. I honestly thought they were a reputable nursing association that cared about people, not a corporate cleaning business. I was really hurt by the phone call. Now that I look back it's probably for the better. Most of the housekeepers just come in and throw your cleaning supplies around for a half hour and leave. I don't recommend the VNA to anybody that seriously needs help with their household and is a dependant adult.

I told her nurse I knew she couldn't address all my concerns today, but I was hoping Lynette could help me figure it out. I was hoping to just get started. Maybe get some referrals. Lynette came into the room, and said she couldn't help me with everything, I made my appointment for my back. I said I completely understood, I would come back again. She the repeatedly said I needed to pick one. She only has 30 minutes. I said forget it and walked away. After reading her notes in my records she implied I was late. I was on time for my appointment and waited patiently in the waiting for 15 minutes.

Was proactive and helpful in guiding me to additional care that would be beneficial beyond a PCP. Her level of expertise and care met my needs. Unfortunately, I received the dreaded letter that she's leaving West Branch. If I could follow her to another location locally, I would! It's becoming a thing that PCP providers aren't sticking around. I had one for 25 years with Mercy. Dr. Loeb was amazing! She retired in 2019. The next one at Iowa City Family Practice was awesome and she left after a year to specialize in anemic patients in 2020. The third PCP with Mercy canceled our meet and greet due to illness and I wasn't able to schedule with her again, but with another in the office that I liked. However, she too left after a year. The fifth one was with Iowa Health (sadly Mercy was taken over) canceled after a nice meet and greet, due to family issues, and rescheduling was 4 months out?? I finally landed on Lynette! Was excited and looking forward to the level of care that I'd had with my first two doctors/PCP. Now I'm tasked with finding someone similar to Lynette Rice. It's becoming a game that I'm not interested in playing. Whoever lands with Lynette Rice will be fortunate! I hope I am able to painfully find someone similar to her. How that will happen, I do not know. It's Groundhog's Day over and over, paying copays just to meet with someone to see if you mesh well and then they leave. Wishing Lynette the best, wherever she went!!! She is terrific! Her staff is terrific as well. They all made me feel heard and seen, which is not learned in the medical field. You either have that niche or you don't. I will only go with someone who does.
