Of course, I wish it could become an international airport someday, but it's probably not busy enough for that. Even so, I'm very fortunate to have such a convenient airport nearby. I used to take the Airporter to SFO, but it's so expensive, about $52 each way. For many domestic trips, it's actually easier and more affordable to fly directly from STS. Whenever I have the option, I choose to fly from this airport. I also wish STS had an airport lounge, but I can't be too picky when the airport is this convenient. It's a small airport, but it has everything it needs. The staff are friendly, the airport is easy to navigate, and the whole experience is stress-free compared to larger airports. Overall, I'm grateful to have such a great regional airport so close to home.

Definitely a much better alternative to the busy SFO or OAK airports, especially if you need access to the north bay area. First, parking outside is super easy. There is a short term parking area that's free and the long-term parking is very affordable. Secondly, There are push carts available to move your stuff to the ticketing desk from the curb to the counter. Thirdly, There are only a few airlines that service this airport so none of the interior is complicated to use and navigate. I generally like the food options. They have several food concepts and coffee bars inside. There's even a wine bar! There are also upscale vending machines with nice items available for purchase. I really prefer to fly in and out of this airport when I travel to Northern California. The Snoopy decor is a delightful welcome, and the atmosphere is generally fairly light and lively. Check it out!

We flew in for the day for food and drink (no wine for the pilot...hmph!). The runway and taxiways are in top shape. Parking is secure, and Avgas is cheap! 4 temporary spots for transient parking and the admin building has clean bathrooms and lots of wine country brouchures. Call Healdsburg Taxi Co. (707) 433-7088 for a $20 ride into town ..... or pack some folding bicycles in the luggage compartment and pedal to town through some beautiful wine country. There are numerous wineries right around the airport, though I highly recommend going into town for the experience..... not to mention the fab food ! Tips* -Write down the security door code before exiting.... you'll need it. -Small runway, final gets a bit squirrely in a crosswind, so be ready.

Want to travel to an airport that's user friendly and convenient?…read moreMy advice would be to go somewhere else because Healdsburg is just a bare bones kind of place where you can buy gas or if the moon is right, you can have maintenance done. There's maybe 3 dozen airplanes based here that don't fly much, an ineffective local pilot group without much cohesion, and an average maintenance facility that runs the airport like their personal fiefdom. The city of Healdsburg would rather sell the real estate than manage an airport so that piss poor attitude is reflected in a minimalist facility.

My folks loved the restaurant at this airport. It was so unique because the chef would put a big river rock on top of the steak to cook it through. Never seen that done before. The ramps, especially the one in front of the Napa Flight Center is well paved and maintained. The CONS: Not a radar equipped facility. I was handed off to Napa's tower and asked for location and altitude. Kind of the last thing I need to worry about on my final approach into the airport. When departing, I was asked to depart on 28L which is just over 2,500 feet long. When I'm flying solo, it's not really an issue but, with a full load and passengers, I need and would like a runway over 3,500 feet. Because they are not a radar equipped airport, I couldn't request a VFR departure. I had to wait until I was airborne and radio Oakland Center with my flight following request. Napa's a nice airport but, I think a bit behind the times. A city like Napa, with it's clientele deserve more and better.

Why are their systems so old, they can't even attach my TSA Pre-check or GOES ID numbers to my ticket? Why is there NEVER anyone at the Hertz counter and it takes 30 minutes to help one person? Why doesn't security know that a laptop and notebook are essentially the same thing and a TABLET IS NOT A NOTEBOOK? Ugh. But, you only have to arrive about 20 minutes before your scheduled flight, so for a perpetually-running-late person like myself, it makes it worth it to put up with minor frustrations... most of the time. I elected to fly into Sacramento and drive to Chico for the next few weekends. I just wasn't in the mood to hear, "We don't do that here" over and over again.

Of the dozen times I've used this airport, over half the flights have been delayed or cancelled. At this point, I only fly out of Chico as some form of penance. There has been much discussion in Chico regarding the financial drain the airport is on the community and why its patronage is continuing to decline. Not getting to your destination on time is the only reason no one uses this airport. Chico would be wise to add either a LAX or DEN route. Until then, your best option is to drive to Sacramento. Hopefully things improve, but I'm not holding my breath.
