Beautiful ocean views, great ambiance, wonderful and informative hostess. Lots of great adventures up and down the coast...or just take the private trail right up the bluff from your room to access miles of hiking trails with beautiful sweeping ocean views. The house made gumbo was the best we've had! Very romantic and peaceful setting. A definite return!

Amazing views from this Inn. Owner and staff are so friendly and helpful. Restaurant and a pizza place within walking distance. If you're unable to climb a lot of stairs this isn't the place for you but we loved it and will be back!

One month ago, we suddenly realized we didn't have family coming for Thanksgiving, so I started trying to find somewhere for three of us (me, hubby and mom) to spend the weekend. We love the NorCal coast, and I cast my net wide because I knew there wouldn't be much available. The Wharf Master's Inn popped up, with the Wharf Master's house - two bedrooms, one bath, small kitchen, living room and private deck - in our price range. We dig Point Arena, so it seemed like kismet. We arrived on Thanksgiving day, in the afternoon. The staff was fantastic at every turn, especially the innkeeper Karen (owner, host with the most, wearer of all hats!) and her front desk associate Vanita (with all the Southern charm). Cleanliness, good beds, abundant towels, quality linens and rocking chairs on the private deck for our beautiful view of the ocean were part of our perfect experience. I pre-booked Thanksgiving dinner at Wharf Master's Wave Lounge, it was delicious. Happy hour snacks on Friday and light breakfast offerings in the morning were nice bonuses. There are many stairs in the Wharf Master's house and all around the property, between that and many walks down to the wharf and back, we definitely got a workout with our vacation! If you're looking for a hotel getaway with personalized service and boutique feel, this is the place to go.

This stay was utterly fantastic. I desperately needed a chill place to get away and focus on school work without losing my mind. The serenity at this inn was seriously off the charts. Karen, the owner, made sure we had everything we needed, and then some. I even scored some retail therapy in the lobby merch, because, priorities. Our room was clean and comfy, and the jacuzzi tub was pure bliss. The bed was super comfy, but a little creaky, which was kinda funny. The view was gorgeous, and the weather was nice and cool, just what I needed. They served an amazing cup of coffee, along with a yogurt bar, croissants, and fresh fruit for breakfast, because, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. There were also DVDs and board games to spend some quality time with your Peeps, and even lawn games in the courtyard, because, why not? We'll definitely be back, and next time, we're bringing our A-game for those lawn games! Hoping next time it's warm enough for Tilly to be out showin off her beautiful self

A perfect location! This was a quick overnight getaway for us from Marin County. Our first time staying at Wharf Master's Inn, but definitely not our last. We stayed in Room 123, the furthest out, closest to the ocean. Nothing like sleeping and having the waves lull you to sleep. The room as immaculate, tidy and nicely decorated. Everything you need, fridge, wine glasses and a deck with beautiful views. The weather was perfect this weekend. We couldn't have asked for a better time. Karen was especially lovely to speak with as she showed us around the property. I'd love to sit around the fire pit with Karen and enjoy a glass of wine. This is a not to be missed destination. You will thank me

By the way, every room has a private bath, unlike a lot of B&Bs. The house has a variety of rooms and amenities, so do your homework to make sure you get what you're looking for. The WiFi was very spotty and cell signal is non-existent, so plan accordingly for this. The breakfast, while lighter than some B&Bs I've stayed at, was delicious. Everything is homemade by a very talented staff. The service all around was terrific. We ate dinner the first night at the Pier Chowder House, just a 2 minute walk to the waterfront. Good food, lots of local beer and wine to choose from. The second night we found out about a scampi and crab feed at the grange in Manchester, a few miles north of town. There's also a decent Indian Casino just outside of town. There's a great coop market in town (a mile away, back on Hwy 1), as well as a small movie theater that used to be a playhouse. They sometimes have live music events there, too. Be sure to drive 4 miles north to the lighthouse. You can actually climb up the 145 steps to the top and see for miles. Take your camera! There's a small museum and gift shop as well. All in all, we had a great weekend. It was well worth the drive. We'll be back!

Just got back from an amazing and relaxing LONG weekend up the coast with the wife. We spent two…read morenights at the Coast Guard House and I have to say, this is one of the quaintest and coziest little B&Bs I've ever stayed in. The location is right on the Arena Cove waterfront; secluded and - most importantly - quiet. The house was actually used by the Coast Guard back in the day so it has lots of history behind it. Your typical frilly Victorian B&B decor (bleh) is non-existant...think more turn-of-the-century craftsman. Our room (Surfmen Cove) was spacious, with a gas fireplace and sunken tub in the bathroom. Downstairs in the living room/parlor there is a wood burning stove that is usually lit in the mornings and evenings with a nice sitting area in front of it. Mmm, love that smell... The innkeepers, Kevin and Mia, have been operating this establishment since the mid-1990s. They are very friendly and willing to help you secure local dinner reservations as well as give you ideas on what to do with yourself while in the Mendocino area. Mia is originally from Philadelphia, so east coast feistiness + plenty of caffeine = enthusiastic "audio/visual presentations" over breakfast on local sights and activities. Fellow inn guests were just as friendly. The group this particular weekend was mostly from the south bay. One evening we ran into another couple staying at the inn at the Arena Cove Bar & Grill (just a few steps away from the CGH...another plus!) after driving back from dinner in Mendocino. We ended up sharing pints, stogies and port well into the wee hours. I would definitely come back here, and maybe next time try one of the two cottages they have on the grounds in addition to the five rooms in the main house. Holiday weekend note: The CGH can be flexible with reservation minimums. The website (which allows online reservations) says there is a three-night minimum required in order to make a reservation over a holiday weekend. For Memorial Day weekend, we actually wanted to stay at the CGH for only two nights (Friday and Saturday) and then head to Napa to stay at the Carneros Inn on Sunday night. On the previous Monday, I noticed online that there still seemed to be rooms available for the weekend. I phoned Kevin and he was agreeable to making an exception to the three-night rule and allowed us to complete our reservation for just two nights.

We went on a Saturday morning in February, so the experience was peaceful, quiet, and calm. While not a whole lot of animals were out during our slot (just doing their animal thing!), we were still able to see a nice variety of species. The absolute highlight was getting to feed the giraffes at the end of the tour! They are such majestic creatures, and it was a fun, interactive activity. We finished the tour fairly quickly since many animals weren't right up against the fence that day, but it's a fantastic activity to add to your itinerary if you're spending a full day exploring the coast. You can truly tell that the caretakers value and care deeply for these animals. It's a great experience that supports an excellent cause!

We live FT in The Sea Ranch so Harbor House is an easy drive and it's like having our own neighborhood Michelin star resort and dining in the hood. Lunch was as good as I remember it. We started with a raw smoked trout stater and it was gently smoked which kept the trout firm and with only a hint of the curing process. Their freshly made bread followed and that kelp churned butter is to die for. The next two courses were a poached black cod in a home made miso sauce that was a lesson in how to ferment properly ! Delicious. The pork loin followed and I must admit it was a little tough - perhaps not rested enough post cooking or just a little over. The dish had teenie tiny wasabi leaves among all the veggies and greens on the plate and they really imparted a lovely natural zinginess...desert was some sort of a custard with a thin meringue and some other wonderfulness that made the whole thing refreshing but not too sweet and a lovely end to the meal. It was our 34th anniversary and we had made it a point to mention it when we made the reservation but they didn't even stick a candle in the dessert they gave us as a part of the meal...which seemed a missed opportunity IMHO. Just saying, we eat out quite a bit and most of the time not to celebrate anything special so it's nice when an establishment makes mention and notice of it in some way... We had the wine pairings ($100/each) along with the five course lunch ($150/each) and they do a nice job with the pairings, mainly featuring nice Italian varietals and of course some local favorites from the area - like Baxter (Pinot) and a dessert style wine that was very nice and not something I would have normally thought to order on my own. The grounds are as beautiful as always and now that spring has sprung and the flowers on their grounds are in full bloom and the beach area is starting to take on that summer sheen - it was a stellar afternoon once again. We will be keeping this place on regular rotation for sure and we look forward to our next meal later this summer when the tomatoes are ripe and the fruits and vegetables are in all their glory ! Highly recommend.

The walk down to the beach via steep stairs is worth it, someone in our group even had expensive shoes get ruined on the way down, but she still said the beach experience made it worthwhile. That said, our visit felt a bit off. It was an off day for them...the fridge wasn't working, the staff seemed flustered, and there were service issues like the wrong wine being served. The food had moments of quality, but the experience overall didn't feel as polished as expected for a 2 Michelin star restaurant. Incredible location and setting, but the execution didn't match the reputation on this visit.
