Always a winning experience at Ukrops! I was there on 12/23/25 and the place was PACKED! The line went all the way around the store, but the wait was worth it. The unique, food items, the monthly specialty cakes, the prepared sides (that Mac n' cheese!), the fried chicken, the deviled eggs, the ham on White House rolls, the cookies and baked goods, the banana pudding, the salads, and so much more!! This is a Richmond staple. The entire market is so clean and the outside area is so nice in the warm weather. The seating available is great but the real highlight is the food. The fried chicken is amazing but the rest of the hot bar is hit or miss. The real stars are in the prepared sides, like the different potato salads and the AMAZING cakes. After searching "Best Fried Chicken in Richmond", Ukrop's Market Hall came up. Yelp reviews did not disappoint. Walking in we felt like we were walking into a familiar place. It was set up perfectly with plenty of room to find the things we needed without getting in anyone's way. We purchased the eight piece fried chicken meal which came with two sides and rolls. We also added some à la carte prepackaged cold salads that we wanted to try as well as various desserts. The chicken was fantastic, seasoned and fried to perfection. We had the corn casserole and potato salad as our hot sides. Both were delicious and I can't think of anything that would have made them better. We also got the California broccoli salad, as well as pickled cucumbers and both of those were perfect as well. I can't even talk about the wide variety of desserts, which were the perfect ending our meal. Everyone who worked there were considerate and efficient. They thought of everything. If you lived in Virginia, you should know what is UKROP'S. Everyone I know that lived here and still lives here knows the name UKROPS. They used to be a grocery store that offers amazing foods hot and cold. they have the best employees and their locations are always nice and clean. Sadly, they closed their stores many years ago :( but then they opened this amazing Market Hall which is located at Three Chopt Road, parking is not too bad on the weekend since all the other offices there are mostly close. They close on Sunday and Monday. If you grew up in Richmond, VA, then you know about Ukrops. Years ago, it was a grocery store. Actually, the best grocery store. Over the years, I've still ordered Ukrops cakes for every occasion. Today, we decided to go to the Ukrops Market hall to pick up something for dinner. We live about 40 mins away but to think about my childhood, I was excited. We thought it would be more hot food options but it was just chicken and pizza. We got the 8 piece meal and it was so greasy! I was so disappointed. We got there 2 hours before they closed and they were out of green beans. And it was just one pizza option. That was pepperoni and I have a child that only eats cheese pizza. We got a few different slices of cake. I was excited to have the cake of the month which was the pineapple coconut cake... and I was very disappointed at how dry it was, the flavor was delicious but it was not Ukrops quality by any means. It is great they created this space for Richmond to bring back a little bit of what they had in their stores. One negative: the chicken and potatoes wedges weren't as good as I remember (both could benefit from being a touch more crispy). The pizza was on point. Super cheesy and a huge slice. I've always loved Ukrops for the desserts and the quality never lets me down. In particular, they had a strawberry banana cake. The cake is banana flavored, but it's not thick & dry like banana bread. The cake is a soft, light texture just like their other cakes. The icing is strawberry buttercream. I think it is made with real strawberry rather than syrup or dye because the strawberry smell of the cake is very authentic like fresh strawberries. The overall cake is not too sweet. read more

Richmond, VA - The Handsome Husband and I were on our way to Williamsburg and needed a brief respite on our journey. Upon entering we spotted rainbow cookie running shirts, oven mitts and baby bibs. Being new to Ukrops we decided since there was so much rainbow cookie merch we ought to give them a try. We bought a grab and go cup of cookies for $3.99. The cookies are a bit bigger than Nilla wafers and a festive green and red color. They have a little bit of crunch and a nice vanilla baked good flavor. Would buy again! Additionally we admired all the cakes on hand. Bought a slice of the cake of the month for less than $3 which seemed like a good deal compared to our local grocery. The flavor was candy cane and I recommend it highly. Service was quick and efficient. The whole shop was clean bright and tidy. My recommendations are strawberry buttercream cake (available 6/1-9/1) , their Bar Cake which is a 6 layer yellow cake with chocolate icing and their rainbow cookies. It is the Thalhimers department store recipe. Those who don't know Thalhimers department store was located downtown and has an historical history! I finally have experienced the Ukrop's Market Hall, twice. Because of extremely long lines, I waited until February and went on a weekday and had no wait. Be prepared that there are two entrances. One for the fried chicken and potato wedges. The other entrance is for the bakery and "Icebox " and everything else. My visit today was to procure a 8 piece chicken meal, that includes 2 sides and 4 rolls. I arrived at about 3:40pm, and after waiting over 20 minutes in below freezing temps, with their unused outdoor heatlamps. Then I had a longer wait inside. Even by 4:35pm, I STILL had no food. In fact, when I gave them my order, I was told I had to wait 10 more minutes. Even though there was a huge platter of chicken right there. Well, they didn't have enough legs and wings to fulfill the orders. And guess what? I had, on top of the 8 piece order, added an extra wing and an extra leg, for a total of 10 pieces. And surprise surprise, only 8 pieces were in the box. I didn't receive the extra wing and extra leg. This discovery occurred at the dinner table when the wing lover in the family was looking for that extra wing. So dissaponting. And as an aside, apparantly they ran out of macaroni and cheese. Before 5pm. So, I won't be buying fried chicken from Ukrop's, again. Kroger fried chicken is perfectly acceptable, and less $ and I have never needed to wait at Kroger. Chick fil a macaroni and cheese is better, too, by the way. Those dang potato wedges, though. The building IS beautiful. They kept the windows from the church, which creates a lot of ambiance. Though the line for hot food is slow and steady, the checkout is swift. People working there are polite and friendly. In my honest opinion, a lot of the stuff sold there is also available at Kroger, exceptfor the obvious (breakfast pizza). A lot of Ukrop's bakery items are available at Kroger. It is nice to go to a Ukrop's store, but I cannot see myself spending soooo much time just waiting, especially when my order wasn't accurately fulfilled. read more

Wowie, wow! Ukrop's Market Hall was definitely worth the visit. It's not particularly close to me, but I would definitely put it on my regular 'to visit' list. Recommended by a friend, I popped in early the day before Thanksgiving. Housed in a former church, the store footprint is not large, but they definitely make the most of the space that they have. Because it was pre-Thanksgiving, they had plenty of fixin's for folks to choose from. There is a bakery section where you can order treats, and they have those treat scattered around the store as well (I found a small turkey cake and grabbed it to take with me for turkey day - totally cute). A chilled grab-n-go section that has sandwiches, salads, and desserts (get the banana pudding - you won't be sorry). I grabbed a container of sammiches on their famous white rolls (for dinner at work later in the day- just so you don't think I am a total pig eating all that food at once!! ha ha) and it was wonderful. At the back is the hot food area. Fried chicken and pizza seem to be the go-to options. I tried a slice of the breakfast pizza and it was truly sublime! Pizzas are sold by the slice or a whole pie. Both hot foods and bakery items can be pre-ordered. Ukrops is immaculately clean and well-organized. I would highly suggest a trip here just to experience the yumminess. Get here early on the weekend, or come during the week since it gets pretty busy during peak shopping times. My parents and I stopped by this morning to pick up lunch and check out this place. It was pretty crowded, but everyone had their masks on. Maybe we went at a busy time, but they also had a line going outside for hot foods like fried chicken and potato wedges. We ended up buying a baked potato dish, a potato salad, and some London beef broil. Everything tasted really good, but the instructions on the beef broil stated microwave for 2-4 minutes! I did that and it came out really overcooked :( next time, I'll definitely have to check the wattage. Beware of vague instructions on the to-go meals.
