Red pizza with sausage and spinach
    Lena M.

This review is just based on their red pizzas! I would love to come back and try other things on their menu. 8 1/2 is a super charming takeout Italian spot. It's ideal for warm days so you can take your food to picnic in Scuffletown. I've only ever ordered a red pizza here with toppings when I've visited. I had a blast doing this once with my mom and partner. This week, I decided to spend my lunch break with a friend having pizza. We ordered a red pizza with spinach and sausage. Our bill came out to about $26. It took about 35 minutes for the pizza to be ready so we went on a walk while we waited. There were about three seats to sit at too if you prefer to wait in the restaurant. When our pizza was ready, they offered us napkins and red pepper flakes. We took our pizza to the park to enjoy! It's nice to see how fresh the pizza's are. It's slightly greasy, but thin crusted. 8 1/2 also has a lot of delicious Italian pantry goods for purchase as well as wine. It's a pretty small space on the customer end, which is fine for a takeout spot! If you don't mind that things are on the pricier side, this is a nice spot to get take out for a scuffletown picnic.

3.5 stars. I'm on the search for the best pizza in Richmond, so wanted to give this place a try! Mostly because i've had the pleasure of smelling their pies every time I pass to get some scoops ice cream. Once inside, this place is solely for takeout. There possibly might've been a chair, but I cant be 100% sure. I ordered a pepperoni pizza with arugula salad to take home. Pizza was about ~$17 I think. Pizza was that thin, more Neapolitan style that I usually like. Flavor was pretty good. Arugula salad was just that. A take out box of arugula which made me feel a little silly for ordering. I think if you rank it among take-out places, it's a good pizza. But for the how overpriced it is and the fact that you don't really have the option to sit there and eat it, I think i'm still on the search for a better pie in Richmond! I might come back to try some of their other items though.

Calzone, i added my own seasonings on top bc of how bland it was, but didnt help much

Disappointed and Overpriced - Worst Calzone We've Ever Had We were really excited to try this place because of all the high reviews, but were sorely disappointed. I ordered the calzone, which set me back $20, and honestly, it wasn't even that big. The biggest letdown was the filling--it was absolutely stuffed with ricotta and barely had any mozzarella. When I cut into it, there was zero cheese pull, just a bland, flavorless mess of ricotta. The marinara sauce that came with it was delish, but it was way too oily imo. The bread had an okay taste, but the texture was a huge fail--it was soggy and soft, not crispy at all. It seriously felt like it had been microwaved. Given how busy the restaurant was when I arrived, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happened. I don't understand how this place has such high ratings. This was hands down the worst calzone I've ever had. I plan on reaching out to the restaurant to see if they'll make this right, because $20 for this was just ridiculous. Edit: We reached out to the restaurant, the manager was very polite, understanding, and listened to my concerns, which i greatly appreciate, and he refunded the order

I've been coming to 8 1/2 for over 12 years and it's always wonderful. Anything you try, it's going to be amazing! The pizzas are incredible and I'm obsessed with the arugula salad. I didn't get the lasagna this time, but that is also absolutely delicious. give it a try!!

Love this takeout gem. Pizza, eggplant parm, penne with broccoletti. All delish! Limited menu but they do it great!

Best pizza in Richmond I finally found it! Arugula salad is pretty good - mine was slightly dry so maybe dressing on the side.

Pizza is real Italian/European style with a zesty red sauce. It's a bit of a wait as everything is made fresh and they are very popular!

The recipe changed... the red pizza is not as thin, greasy, crispy anymore. What happen?

Friendly service, good crispy crust. Not quite Neapolitan style, but I'd definitely go back.

Still the best pizza in Richmond. Crispy crust. Ugh so good. Can't blame the business for the pricing. Everything is expensive nowadays.

Hector is the coolest, hands down--great energy, great personality, the kind of person who makes you want to come back. Oh and did I mention you can get pizza by the slice! The variety is mind blowing and they always have vegan options!!!!! I'm a thin-slice person. I need the right ratio of crust to sauce to toppings, and Zorch nails it every time. Plus, no flop! The cheese slice is a classic and was my favorite... until I discovered The Upside Down. Listen, when I bite into that slice, I literally close my eyes. I see a lot of people say it's greasy. For this one, grease me down baby. The flavor does everything it needs to do. Layered, bold, and honestly addictive. After that slice, I don't even want a regular one anymore. Next up on my list: The Grandma. And for context, I've had Angelo's in Philly. Respectfully? It doesn't compare. Sorry to all the other grandmothers out there lol. One note though-it's heavy on the garlic, so if that's not your thing, you might want to pivot. If it is your thing? Strap in. It's been a few years since I've been able to say I found a legit pizza spot in RVA. A spot that I bring others to often! I'm happy to say I've found my pizza home. Much love to the Zorch crew. See y'all soon!

I decided to give it a try since I would be down the street after VCU homecoming basketball game. Upon entering the restaurant, we were told they were not quite open yet. It was about 255pm and our reservations were for 3pm. We did see a couple seated on the restaurant side. When I made my reservations on the open table app I asked to be seated in the restaurant side and not the bar side. When the host came over to seat us, she seated us in the bar area. We had to get the attention of someone to wipe the seats off because food was in the seats. She did ask us were we there for the repass and we told her no we had reservations for 3pm on the restaurant side. We studied the menu for about 10 minutes and decided to order appetizers and soft drinks. The server came over and took our orders. She was back in less than five minutes. Our drink orders looked very light in color and hardly no bubbles were in our drinks. The ginger ale looked like water and the pepsi was extra dark in color. The server never came back to check on us. We decided to get up and leave. First impressions are everything to me. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt but...I will not be trying this place again

The New Yorker was a cheese pizza while The Wire was a Crab Pizza with pesto sauce. I didn't get a picture but the cheese pull was insane on both! The drinks were good as well. I had the "Pornstar Martini" while my cousin had the "Velvet Notes" I love how the restaurant has 3 different parts. The right side was for the conservatives, the left was for the not so conservatives and the basement was where the party and hookah was at. The only downside of this place, was the service. It was sooo slow! Although, our bartender "Devin" made some amazing drinks!
