I have a full-on love affair with Zorch Pizza. I crave it. I think about it when I shouldn't. And while they've got more than one location, this review is strictly for Carytown because that's my spot. The vibes are always right. It feels like community the second you walk in. Hector is the coolest, hands down--great energy, great personality, the kind of person who makes you want to come back. Oh and did I mention you can get pizza by the slice! The variety is mind blowing and they always have vegan options!!!!! I'm a thin-slice person. I need the right ratio of crust to sauce to toppings, and Zorch nails it every time. Plus, no flop! The cheese slice is a classic and was my favorite... until I discovered The Upside Down. Listen, when I bite into that slice, I literally close my eyes. I see a lot of people say it's greasy. For this one, grease me down baby. The flavor does everything it needs to do. Layered, bold, and honestly addictive. After that slice, I don't even want a regular one anymore. Next up on my list: The Grandma. And for context, I've had Angelo's in Philly. Respectfully? It doesn't compare. Sorry to all the other grandmothers out there lol. One note though-it's heavy on the garlic, so if that's not your thing, you might want to pivot. If it is your thing? Strap in. It's been a few years since I've been able to say I found a legit pizza spot in RVA. A spot that I bring others to often! I'm happy to say I've found my pizza home. Much love to the Zorch crew. This is a tiny slice shop, with a couple of tables and a bar with half a dozen seats or so. A large portion of the shop is devoted to displaying the slices. While I did consider other options, the comparison of a margherita slice and a grandma slice appealed to me. Both were delicious but distinctively different. The crust is quite thin and floppy on both. I did not get the vegan grandma slice but this was available for those in need. They had a range of beverage options and given the heat I might have been well served by getting a seltzer, which I didn't simply because I didn't notice it there initially. There is a larger pizza shop which has more appetizers and salads and things, which I am convinced is worth trying. read more

Even though I had leftover food back at my hotel from lunch, I came to Zorch because I had to try their vegan options as an out of towner with no idea when I'd be back. There was a location near my hotel but I got confused and came all the way out to this location--but no regrets! The staff was incredibly nice with my confused self. They were helpful answering questions about my friend's food allergy concern and generally just super nice and welcoming. The place itself was pretty large, had a bar you could sit at, lots of tables, some arcade video games to play, fun cartoons from the 90s on the way. Such a fun, casual vibe! Also, vegans rejoice. Not only did they have vegan pizza but they had vegan wings AND CAKE. That's right. I didn't try those but wish I had the room to! Fresh ingredients, Detroit square pan style pizza that's, thin but not "thin crust", nice crust that gives chewy and crunchy at the same time, delicious sauce that tastes homemade, and excellent toppings. I also had wings which were saucy, meaty and delicious. Will definitely make this place a regular spot when it's time for a pie! The restaurant is small, maybe 10 tables and a small bar, and parking is limited so prime time hours are going to be tough. The pizza is already made and you get to order what you want from the cashier. The inside of the store is really tiny. When we first walked in it wasn't clear what we were supposed to do. The staff wasn't going out of the way to help us figure things out either. It was really hot in there and the cashier was visibly annoyed. Eventually we snagged a table and ordered a few different slices of pizza! One of the pizzas we ordered had a dessert pastry crust which was the perfect companion to the sweet tomato sauce and gooey cheese! The standard cheese pizza was also really enjoyable. The crust was cooked perfectly with just the right amount of crispness to it! We also got an upside down pizza that had the sauce on top. Easily the best pizza in Richmond. Zorch is doing something that others aren't. Their fresh and innovated menu has something for everyone (including those who are vegan or gluten free). My favorites are the hot honey & pepperoni slices and the upside down (vodka sauce with basil). I love the selection of beers and the cozy intimate environment. Zorch is a quaint shop located right in the middle of Carytown. I love stopping in on Fridays for a quick slice. Leah, the front-of-house server, is always kind and attentive to me and anyone I bring with me. There is limited seating, but I think that adds to the space's charm. My go-to slices are the Grandma and the Upside Down. The Grandma is a square slice with a crispy crust, topped with fresh mozzarella and dollops of marinara. After coming out of the oven, it's finished with fresh basil. The Upside Down is made with a creamy vodka sauce. The mozzarella is placed underneath the sauce, hence the name. The vegan wing night special (not always on the menu) was maybe the best thing I've ever eaten... and my nonvegan friend agreed! You can sit at the bar for a beer and pizza, grab a table inside or out, or opt for a picnic table in the rear yard with takeout. They have a parking lot but beware it's rather small. Residential street parking is available too. Beware also that on weekends they sometimes have to turn off phones and online takeout orders because they're that busy! But worth it.. just drive in. This is a tale of two reviews. They average to a 4 star. First the food. We each had a slice and an order of fries. The slice of pepperoni and the slice of cheese were among the best, if not THE best, I have had in Richmond. Really tasty, showing quality ingredients..... small cup pepperoni, lots of good quality cheese, crust that was properly cooked, with scorchy bubbly places on the crust. Yummy! The fries came out hot and well seasoned and I could have eaten them til I burst. Really great food is what we had. 5 stars. But.... the service situation was weird. The restaurant has 3 tables and 5 seats at the small bar. One of the three tables was not available due to a lack of chairs. (They were in use at the other two tables. What, not a single extra seat in the place? None?) So we sat at the bar with the door opening and closing behind us in January. We ordered our (again, delicious) food but before we ordered the fries we tried to order the Toasted Ravioli. We were told by the bartender "I don't think we sell that at this location." Huh? Then why is it one of three appetizers you have on the menu? Why disappoint your guests before they take the first bite? Anyway, food came out and we tucked in. We got the slices and my wife asked for a fork and knife. The knife was granted immediately. The fork got forgotten by the bartender. Even when reminded he had to go to the kitchen and discuss it with someone in the doorway. The fries didn't arrive til we were nearly done with the slices. Um..... We also ordered a slice to go..... it was given to us on a paper plate with another plate on top..... the crust and the other end protruding from the plates. Really? I need to transport this in my car like this? You don't have slice boxes? To be fair service was friendly. Just scattered. Service/set up/ambiance gets 2.5 stars. We decided the quality of the food would bring us back if what we wanted was a slice from the limited choices. But for anything more expansive (like a sandwich) or exotic (like sausage) or larger (whole pizza was a 30-45 minute wait) we'll go a few blocks up the street. read more

Pretty good pizza! Recently was voted the best pizza spot in RVA in a March Madness-style bracket, so we were excited to try it. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options which was awesome! In order of our faves: 1) Goat Cheese + Peach Jam - super creamy, flavors were well-balanced, slightly on the sweeter side, my personal favorite. 2) White Out - caramelized onions, basil, ricotta, garlic, you get the idea - this one was good as well but didn't feel SAUCY which we were really craving. 3) Red Sauce Thick Crust - forgot the official name for this pizza but it was a thick crust (square slices), with tomato sauce and cheese. Very satisfying! Your classic pizza flavors. 4) Vegan Sausage - forgot the official name for this too but you really could not tell it was vegan. Really liked this as well, it was just a little bitter as you continued to eat. Overall would probably try it again for some other specialty slices (I like that they sell by slice so you don't have to buy the full pie) - however, it does lose its tastiness as it gets cold, so def eat hot. read more

We went to try out the newest neighborhood pizza parlor and were so unexpectedly impressed! The pizza was huge and we were able to do a half&half of any pizza on the menu. They also offer slices of plain cheese or pepperoni if you don't want a whole pie. They have some good happy hour specials on drinks and food and it was quick service. The place is pretty small but they have inside and outdoor seating available. Parking is limited and it gets super busy on Friday nights. The only downside is that my husband was excited for the nostalgia of an old school pizza parlor and while the decor was correct, the arcade games were a bit lacking. But that won't take away from the real reason you need to go...the pizza! Definitely recommend! read more

This place is located in Carytown, across from the Theater. Overall, this is pretty solid pizza, and better than a lot of the pizza not only located in VA, but just anywhere in general. It's super thin, NY style pizza with a twist. I think they change their specialty slices once in a while but they're all pretty good. Service is quick. They reheat the pizza, and then you're on your way. The store itself is pretty small. If there was a rush, you probably wouldn't find a seat. But typically, it's not too busy.
