I walk in with a vague idea, maybe a random Pinterest pic, and somehow--bam--he gives me exactly what I wanted (sometimes better than I imagined). I purchased an online order. Received it today and upon arrival opened order and my 33.8 oz Paul Mitchell shampoo was spilled all over all the items in my shipment. I follow the return instructions states to take it to local store in original packaging. The manager tells me to go see if it's in store so I do and bring it back and she asks if I used points and I confirmed that I did so she takes the damaged one and rings me up for a new bottle making me pay for it because I used the points that I earned by spending a lot of money there. I then stated I wanted the damaged bottle back then since I paid for a new one and she told me no that she had to keep it for damage control and that's store policy. read more

I love ulta ! But today was the first time I used their salon services which is actually what my review is for. I booked for a everyday makeup and told the receptionist I only really wanted to learn how to apply lashes and liner. I was told it was $45 which I was okay with. I think my MA was Olivia ? After said and done with my makeup she told me it would be considered a formal makeup since she took time to teach me things and it took like an hour. I think something like that should have definitely been discussed BEFORE hand bc the price went from $40 to 70$$. She knew what I was scheduled for. I paid for it BUT I will not go back for services and would not recommend. I also don't ever do this but I didn't tip because of it. Felt like she was kinda being sneaky honestly. If I could leave a -Star I would. When I go to Sephora, an employee can pull up my account, ask for. ID, verify my date of birth and give me the promotional gift. If Ulta is going to offer it, why can't a company as big as theirs make it simple? I went to this location and I was waited on my a woman named Michelle but I believe she went by Shell. I know this because she took a phone call as I waited in line. No big deal at this point right? I'm not mad she took a call. What happened next was infuriating. I said "Hi, I had a birthday so I'm here for my gift." I started to pull out my wallet to get my ID out. She said "Do you have your email?" I said "No, I could probably check on my phone." But as I looked into my purse for my cell phone, I asked her "Couldn't you pull up my account and see my information?" She immediately turned nasty and gave me a dirty look and said "No you need the email. Can't do it without it." Listen, if that is the store policy, it's lame at best. At worst, why the attitude? Why look at me like I don't belong in there? I'd expect that attitude from Sephora's employees but not here. It's why I stopped shopping at Sephora and gave Ulta my business. But now, I can't say I'll never go back to an Ulta store because that's silly. But that experience rubbed me the wrong way---really shitty birthday experience to have. Got some red highlights done here some weeks ago and could not be happier with the results! My hair "bled" in the shower for the first couple of washes (totally normal) and felt a bit coarse from the bleach the first couple of weeks, but nothing some deep conditioning can't fix. My highlights have faded a tiny bit, but I love them even more now. Totally worth the random impulse hair change! read more

I have been coming here for over a year now for my Brows and I have to say I will not go any where else. Danelle is Awesome and consistent. After my regular stylist went on maternity I tried the salon at Ulta. I was lucky enough to get Darlene and he does a wonderful job both color and cut. After much LONG though before reviewing... ULTA has been a playground for me. The prices aren't ridiculous and if you find sales and use their coupons you get amazing deals. The reason I gave only 4 stars is because in my many years shopping at Ulta, I HAVE run into a grumpy girly or two. However, ONE bad apple in the basket doesn't mean they are all ruined. Sometimes I am checked out by the sweetest people. (Today's example: Rosalind. Who is sweet as sugar! ) Every place has their ups and down but Ulta has been a positive experience all around for me. I miss the wonderful lady at the browbar, I suppose she may have moved? I have not had the opportunity of having been taken care of by the new brow tech. Although, she did seem nice the time I did see her at work on a client. I've been serviced in the salon. The young man who helped me did a great job despite struggling with my long massive crazy curly hair. He did keep trying to convince me to thin it, which made me want to scream but generally he was just doing what HE had been taught in order to deal with hair like mine. I just so happen to know "thinning" my hair isn't the solution for ME. Overall, if you're a beauty newb, someone is there to help you. But keep in mind... beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Love that it's a lot larger than Sephora - gives room for the "cosmetic store smell" to disapate a bit. However, wasn't super impressed with selection & the staff. Half of the nail polish racks were plain empty - and trying to find someone to help was nearly impossible. Maybe a bad day? Either way, parking is a lot easier at Ulta than Sephora, so I'm more likely to return. read more

I consider Ulta a necessary evil, only because Sephora lacks a full nail and hair product selection. If Sephora would expand to include more of those two categories, I would never set foot in an Ulta, mainly because of their service, which consistently falls into 2 categories - nonexistent and terrible. I can't tell you how many times I've gone to Ulta and had to interrupt two employees having a personal conversation in order to get help with finding something. Returns are a hassle as well. This goes for this location and two other Ulta locations I've visited, so this appears to be a company-wide problem. What I'm guessing it boils down to is that as a company, they don't treat their employees well, and it is reflected in the service (or lack thereof) that trickles down to customers. Here's the good. They carry a great fragrance, nail care, and hair care selection. Make sense, given that they double as a salon. I adore Pureology for hair (hard to find outside of salons) and Essie for nails (I know Target and Walmart have started carrying some Essie variations, but the colors don't seem to be as good - or as plentiful - as in salons). I love that Ulta carries these brands, and their holiday gift sets for various products, including shampoos, etc cannot be beat. Their makeup selection (BeneFit, Urban Decay, etc) is also good, with many gift sets in that category as well. Another plus is that they carry regular, drugstore brands as well. It's pretty cool to be able to pick up a cheap Maybelline Great Lash Mascara and an expensive, high-end mascara at opposite ends of the same store. So cool, in fact, that now that I think about it, I'm upping them from two stars to three stars as I write this. Final thoughts: Ulta is a terrific concept (salon, nail care, hair care, high/low end cosmetics), with a strong need to improve their service. If the service could rise up to meet the quite impressive product selection, they would have an edge on Sephora, which has consistently good service, but fewer product lines (and while we're at it, a much better rewards program and free samples every visit). For me, service wins out in the end, especially when you can get the same product in two places. read more

I thought they would be super expensive, but found them to be comparable to departure stores, if not cheaper. There is a lot to see so take your time and enjoy yourself. They have a salon there also with very reasonable prices. Every one was super nice and helpful. I purchased the Ulta brand powder (well wet to dry) foundation/powder combo and love it. I went in today around 1-2 pm. I had a woman with curly hair ring me out and I greeted her and she didn't answer only abruptly asked for my phone number. I asked if I had any points and she seemed annoyed and barely made eye contact with me. Although not technically rude, I don't see the point in treating a customer like that, that is trying to be nice. We need to not make a bad situation worse. With how the world is going it would have been nice if I was treated in the same pleasant manner that I treat all of my customers. There is no reason to be so impersonal. read more

I moved to Allentown from NYC in August 2015. I found Ulta to be very close to me and convenient. So i decided to go there and get my hair done. I went in and wanted a perm. I spoke to a so called high end stylist or their top notch stylist Darlene. She assure me my hair would look amazing. I even showed her a pic of what style of curly i wanted. She said "it would come out amazing and no damage in my hair". I decided to go through with it. After finishing the process for 3 hours and paying $210.00 my hair was a nightmare. It wasn't curly at all. It was even more limp then when i walked in and now super frizzy. She said give it some tome and me being not experience with how i perm should turn out fell for it. I left and came back after a week of my hair smelling bad and getting worse. Not curly at all. When i went back she offered me a complimentary oil treatment which valued $20.00. It still didn't help. I decided to give it a while before i go back for a solution. 2 weeks later with having do deal with the only bad hair i decided stupidly to go and get a keratin by them this time by the stylist Tanya. Now at this point they see that i was only there 2 weeks ago for a perm and they went ahead and did another chemical process on my hair which is the keratin . This took another 3 hours and cost me $200. I was told after i wash it in 72 hours it would be smooth and easy to maintain. I decided to wait a whole week to wash it and when i did it was the same place i started when the perm messed up. I called up Tanya and told her and she said she spoke to her manager Andrea and said to come in and they will fix it. I went in the next day she did a complimentary treatment again. Now this is 3 chemical processes done within a month. I waited a whole week again to wash my hair out and this time my hair started breaking and falling out at the tips of my highlights. I went to a salon called Stylist of America on a Sunday when this happened to get an opinion and they clearly stated that nothing should have ever been done after the perm and this is why my hair was breaking due to over processing. I went back to ULTA to show them and request a full refund for both services and they refuse. They clearly saw the damaged caused and refused. Worst customer service I have EVER had!!! I wanted my retouch done. Not only is the color not right, they ruined my long extensions. She had no idea what she was doing. My extensions match the length of my real hair. Plus, my hair was so choppy, I went back for her to blend it. The manager couldn't take the time out of her day to help the stylist. She cut over 6 inches of my hair. I spent $300 on extensions, another $200 on having them put in, not by them, they're corporate can't even give me the time of day to fix this! Worst company ever. I made an appointment to get my make-up done at Ulta for an event. I asked for a soft, natural look and even brought in a picture. The inexperienced "make-up artist" took over 45 minutes to do my makeup and never showed me what she was doing during my appointment. Once she showed me the final product, I was horrified. She had put so much mascara on me that my top and bottom lashes were getting stuck together, the eyeliner was so harsh looking and the light pink eye shadow that I had requested was grey and I looked like I hadn't slept in 3 days. The manager was then sent over to "fix" my makeup. I showed the manager the picture I had brought in with the soft, natural look. With major attitude, she told me that I looked exactly like the picture. I was completely taken back with how rude she was with me. I said I wasn't happy with the product so she gave me a tissue to try and take off the mascara. Well, it was on so thick, I couldn't get it off. It actually hurt to try to take it off. The manager tried to "soften" my look but she didn't make a difference. Tears then starting rolling down my face because I was already late to my event and I looked nothing like myself. The manager looked at me, rolled her eyes and started putting her stuff away. She never apologized or offered a solution. I had obviously made her very mad with how unprofessional she was acting. As I went to the cashier to pay for this awful service, I asked to speak to another manager. She was great and sympathized with my problem. She did not charge me for the service because I told her I had to rush home to wash my face and do my own make-up. I will never return to Ulta and would advise others to not use their services. read more

I walked in this store for the first time...very excited and prepared to spend a small fortune. I walked around looking at products but wasn't quite sure what I needed. There were several associates standing around gossiping. Not one of them asked me if I needed help. After about 20 minutes, I grabbed 1 item I really needed and went to the counter...where 2 more associate were standing around gossiping. I asked to see the manager. When she came to me, I explained that as a previous store manager myself, I was EXTREMELY disappointed in the service there. She responded with "I'm sorry, we busy and short staffed"...there were 5 customers in the store and at least 6 associates doing everything but helping customers. I will never shop there again. This Ulta is huge. And I absolutely love the girls who work there. They are all really nice and genuine. Alexa seriously knows her stuff, she was the first person to match my foundation EXACTLY to the color of my neck. The color seriously couldn't be more perfect. (Lancôme Teint idol TRY IT!) She was such a down to earth sweetheart, and very knowledgeable. The girl at the register (I didn't catch her name unfortunately but she kinda resembled Alexa) was also a pleasure, huge smile, gorgeous makeup, she was patient and helped me adjust my email because I wasn't receiving coupons for years. * WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE** I must admit that I'm a makeupholic I love makeup, I love shopping and free samples ( so I can shop more lol) so anyway last week I bought What's up by benefit cosmetics, a brush, concealer and spray from ultra BUT I went to other store and gave the money to my sister to pay ( she was at the salon) so she pay at the salon and I never had my free samples, so I went back 2 days ago for more makeup and beauty products and I asked about the samples they cashier said she didn't knew about that blabla so I said Oh no worries ( I'll go to Sephora for makeup next time lol jk ) like whatever they're just samples BUT ( this is why I'm giving them 1 star and I'm giving them a lot wish I had a sad red face instead of a star) another RUDE, skinny blonde girl was like: WHATS GOING ON? So the other girl explain and she gave her a sample for me saying: HERE, THIS IS OLD SO NO PROBLEM. No problem? You're giving me AN OLD SAMPLE with a RUDE attitude? I didn't say anything because she obviously don't know anything about beauty products ( just looked at her skin) and I'm Mexican so I can get pretty mad and I didn't want that but I won't go back, you don't say that infront of your customers, common sense. I've heard tons of wonderful things and seen some great videos on youtube about the Benefit Brow Bar at Ulta stores and was excited to check it out. I called prior to visiting the store to see if I needed to make an appointment or if a walk in was fine. I was told its a walk-in service and that someone would be there when the store opened at 10am. So the next day I headed over to Ulta and arrived about 2 minutes after 10am. When I arrived I was told unfortunately there was a recent schedule change and they apologized but I could come back in 2 hours to get my brows done. That didn't work with my schedule so I made an appointment for the following day. I arrived slightly early for my appointment with Joanna and was told she wasn't in yet but would be there shortly. I waited and waited and waited and still no sign of Joanna. Finally they let me know she was running late but it shouldn't be more than 5 minutes. Again I waited and waited and waited. She finally strolled in about 20 minutes late acting like it wasn't a big deal and that I shouldn't have the annoyed look on my face. Even though she was late for work she still had time apparently to smoke a cigarette (the smell was quite strong especially when someone is that close to your face) and stop by dunkin donuts. The reason I was trying out the brow bar was the experience of getting tips and tricks and I loved how they are supposed to draw out your eyebrow shape beforehand and explain things as they go. The only time she really even spoke to me was asking me what I want done with my brows..... She didn't map them out, didn't ask if I was allergic to anything, didn't ask if I've done any treatments that could affect the waxing experience. It wasn't anything special and definitely not worth the price they charge. My brows didn't look any different than if I get them done at a hole in the wall nail place. The only difference was they do apply some foundation/powder etc. so that your aren't advertising to the world that you just got the hair ripped off your forehead so that was nice not having a super red forehead while running errands. read more

First time "trim" with Leigh ended up being disaster. She did tell me she managed a medical spa before and was relatively new. The salon manager, after having the cut for 3 days, was able to even it up except for the one area where she basically cut my hair down to 1/4 inch long. But the style is not my style or one I'd pick. Literally it will take a year for my hair to grow back to the length it was. They refunded my money, manager did give me offer to help me style it (hope she is available when I need it as I definitely am going to take her up on it and she had trouble herself doing it this evening) and a 30% coupon off my next salon visit! Oh by the way if you decide to go, mention me and we both get $10 off our next visit!!!!!!!! Just save yourself and don't use LEIGH! I think I could of given my 2 year old grandson a pair of blunt school scissors and ended up with a better cut! read more

It's a pretty big store and they usually have a ton of different products ranging from drugstore to higher end. However, it does seem to run out of new items fairly quickly, and popular products are usually low or out-of-stock, but it's a busy location so other than that I love this Ulta. I love Ulta, it's a fantastic beauty store that supplies a wide array of beauty products ranging from drugstore to high end. This is one of my favorite places to stock up on my regulars. They have great sales every month and it's very budget friendly. I also love their rewards program and birthday gift offer (in-store only.) Most of the time I shop online, and go to the store maybe no more than 5 times per year, as this store is located a half hour away. As far as this store goes, selection is limited compared to the website and other stores. I see different people working there every time I stop by. Most of the girls are very helpful and have been in recent years, but occasionally some aren't attentive as they should be. Sometimes I'll browse and be asked if I need assistance, sometimes I'll have to find an employee. The last two times I stopped in the store-- November 2015, was assisted by a very friendly young lady who was informed and a great help. March 2016 I came to exchange an item I bought online that was cracked and leaking. I found the item and waited in line for a few minutes (totally fine with looking at the checkout kiosks full of travel sized products!) while the person ahead in line checked out-- I could have sworn the register was empty before that. I had no problems returning the item and wasn't met with any comment, good policy. Although, the cashier wasn't necessarily friendly, initiated no small talk with me, but was chatting with her coworker who was asking questions about cosmetics she had just tried on. I can't say she was bad at her job, but I prefer customer service to have a personal touch and sense of hospitality. It's a mixed bag of store experience, but I adore and am a loyal customer to Ulta. read more

I LOOOOOOOVE me some Ulta. They have great hair care products, makeup (including Bare Escentuals which I am a big fan of,) amazeballs selection of OPI, China Glaze, Orly and other great nail polishes and supplies. They also have rows of hairdryers, flat irons, brushes...you need it? They have it. Selection of perfume is fantastic as well. Prices are reasonable and staff is helpful. I live on the other side of town, but make a point to drive to Ulta when I need nail polish and other beauty products. read more

I do not usually write reviews but the experience I had here was awful. I had a consultation and later that week to get my hair done. I usually got my hair done in my home state but being at college I wanted to find someone in the area. Five hours later, I left looking nothing like the picture I showed the stylist. She gave me highlights and a toner when i wanted strawberry blonde hair. After a few washes (three weeks, as I only wash my hair once or twice a week) my hair has bright red roots and blonde ends. I was completely botched. I had an emergency appointment at my home salon to fix this. This is where every stylist in the salon commented on how awful my hair looked. They asked if a friend did it and said the quality was so poor there was no way this was a professional job. I spent so much money trying to fix my hair without it falling out. I reached out to Ulta who said to call the salon I got it done at. The manager then told me I could have come back within a 10 day window. I told her I was not comfortable at the salon and it was after 10 days. She laughed and said she would not do anything. I told her I was going to reach out to Ulta as a whole and she laughed and me and said they wouldn't do anything and to get over it. I reached out ot ulta about the situation. They sent an email apologizing about the manager and told me they would contact me for further assistance. I received no further feedback and have been periodically reaching out to Ulta for any closure. I overpaid for the service, had to shell out additional money to fix the problems, was belittle by the manager, and then ignore by Ulta. I am a college students who works to pay her way through college so this expense on expense is not something I can take lightly. I save up to get my hair done! I am so upset. Ulta use to be my go to place for products and assistance but I feel they do not care about their customers and are just after money. CAN YOU TELL I'M UPSET. read more
