Horrible customer service , meanwhile every fragrance is locked away. It was like an insult to ask an associate for any type of assistance to get a cologne that was locked away and out of sight. One cashier seemed totally disgusted and really showed it. I avoided going to "HIS" register and instead waited for the other cashier to be free. No "thank you" or form of courtesy whatsoever. This is the first Ulta I have ever been to where the sales people try their best to avoid customers. I ended up just buying the cologne without even knowing what it smelled like , there were no sample bottles and I was told I would have to "buy it to know what it smells like". Love this Ulta Beauty located in Garfield. The ladies that work in the store are super nice. This is a smaller location, quite frankly they are the best location I have seen in Northern NJ. What I love most about this store, is they always have vegan, animal cruelty free products which are the only products, I will purchase. Everything I buy is always in stock, if it's not, the ladies are more than helpful with getting the item for me or directing me to the store that has the item. I bought a product online and drove 31 minutes to pick it up. From past experience with "ethnic" products, I knew to check to see if the item had been tampered with before I walked away from the counter. I was so flustered that I did not check until I got home to see that they got my entire online order wrong. I ordered a nail buffer, and got make-up wipes. Incompetence, and bigotry.... The jar had, in fact, been opened; the safety lid peeled back, and the contents dipped into. When checked for similar tampering, the other two jars on the shelf had also been opened in a similar fashion. When the obviously flustered, very helpful, employee checked in the back, there was no more of this product. Also, the next delivery which would only include 1 (ONE!!!) of this particular item was not due until next week. She was forced to refer me to the store manager who was at the register because there was a line of 6 customers and the only one available employee was doing her best to assist me. The customers waiting in that line of 6 people, literally, were asking for someone else to come to the register. This online, pick-up, experience took almost an hour of my time. Rather than offer a discount, or top off one jar while declaring the other of THE ONLY TWO JARS on the shelf a "misfire," she chose to become rude, ugly, and hateful. The oversized, poorly applied, false, eyelashes on her face screamed her true character. This $21 product is $44 on Amazon; the hate is real and cancerous. Who is that important? :( I'm really disappointed with how my hair became. I dyed it 10 months ago and the color went from copper to a complete blonde within 1.5 months. About 4 months ago I decided I wanted to dye it back to my natural brown/black, However...in these four months that I've been trying to change the color, it fades within 2-3 weeks back to the blonde each time! The last stylist I went to finally figured it out, saying that this Ulta put in WAY too much lifter and that's why another dye isn't sticking on top (including the original copper color). I had to do 2 conditioning treatments for the dye to stick. I mean, they did leave the lifter in my hair for over an hour but I thought that was normal? My recent stylist said maybe 30 min would have been fine, but anything more than that was harmful due to the strength of the lifter they used. If you have dark hair and are looking for a lighter color, this may not be the place for you because it is very difficult to change it afterward. read more

Wow! What a great experience. I usually like to order cosmetics online but we needed to make a purchase right away before a trip on a Sunday and this store was open and showing that it had what we needed when we checked online. We were greeted and offered help by several smiling staff members. The young ladies we encountered that were working there were all so nice and helpful. Thank you to the young ladies working there today for being so kind and helpful because I had actually had an awful experience a little earlier at a different location. The store is bright, clean and organized. This is actually one of the nicest Ulta stores I've been in and I'm glad I went. Customer service was great, they were helpful without being pushy and items we needed were in stock and easy to locate. The cashier looked for the specific gift with purchase and they actually had very nice gifts with purchase which were in stock. It's an ulta, Nothing spectacular from other ulta's. When you walk in you have the perfume in front of you and the Makeup to the right. As you circle around the store you will find a plethora of hair and skin products. If you turn around quick enough you will catch a rare glimpse of an infamous "store employee" following you around to make sure you are not stealing. Their mating call sounds something like "is there anything I can help you with". November seems to be their mating season. Their perfume is a bit on the expensive side and sometimes Marshall's has the same scents or brands for half the price of not cheaper. I like to go to Marshall's first and see what they have, and because they don't have samples I will then head over to ulta and sample those scents, then head back to Marshall's and pick it up. Now while in the "perfume zone" if you are super quite you will be able to scope out one of the stylists swinging around in their stylist chairs or doing a "satanic ritual" aka "a perm". Seems a bit weird to put a salon right next to another salon (supercuts) but I guess it is a different clientele... Now as you wind the round about and hit the registers don't forget to pick up a few WAYYYY overpriced little travel sized bottles of products for about half the price of a regular sized bottle but only an 1/8 of the size. As you are leaving the store do a good deed and stop into pet value and make a donation to a local shelter or what ever they happen to be fund raising for that month. read more

I visited this store this past Sunday to purchase a gift for my nieces sweet 16 I wanted to get her Gucci bloom perfume she loves and a couple cosmetics maybe also. First thing I was approached by two "managers" maybe they were maybe they were not but both seems to be very interested in everything I touched and followed me in every isle I was in. It seemed as though they thought I was going to take something and to me was very rude and obnoxious. Once they stopped they had a employee present to be a shopper and literally stand next to me and act like a weirdo the whole time she had a turban on and was a big lady she pretended like she didn't know what she was looking for but stood next to me the whole time if I was right she walked next to me. There were two women in the store stealing Urban decay makeup and a couple of the small perfumes and the alarm went off twice while I was in the store. I am a platinum member and a ulta Mastercard holder. I spend thousand of dollars at ulta every year and never was harassed like I was in this store I absolutely plan to go in and make sure I get all of these women's names and complain to their corporate about how I was treated ! I bought cotton balls and will never spend a dime in this store again. Everything happens for a reason...the reason was I met Lisa at the MAC counter. She was incredible!!! I was going to a Halloween party dressed up as Cher. Before I got there, she already researched all the different ways Cher wore her makeup. She took her time to make sure it was perfect and it was!!! She nailed it. I recently started going to get my hair done here by Jamie and she is absolutely amazing. She listens and does exactly what I want, she's extremely personable and easy to talk to. So this Ulta Beauty is new and extremely large with a lot of inventory and I give it two stars for that. However, I've only been here once and I'll probably never visit again. I came to this Ulta because I was told by a store associate at another Ulta that this Ulta would have what I am looking for. So I enter the store and was immediately impressed with its large size and that is was new, excited me. I was greeted immediately then asked the store associate for the product that I am seeking; I included in the conversation that I was told by another associate in another store that the product was here. The other store associate that told me the product was here was on the phone with another store associate at this Ulta location to confirm. I witnessed this conversation with my own eyes. But girl that I spoke with at this location was clueless but helpful ONLY in the beginning. We couldn't find the product but I knew they had it, my instincts told me and I don't believe what everyone says anyway, lol. I requested managerial assistance and waited A WHILE to get it. Finally the manager comes out, another clueless chick with little to no direction, we then searched the beauty isle for this unique yet popular product I was eager to use but she too couldn't find it UNTIL she dropped something on the floor then went to pick it up and waalaah there was my product, several of them just sitting there lonely and unpretentious.. I was happy finally and the manager apologized. So after that I stayed in the store a little longer to look around and felt like I was being followed or watched. I didn't appreciate having that feeling at all. I am an Ulta platinum member and don't deserve that kind of treatment especially after being drained out of my mind from dealing with ignorant little girls posing as knowledgeable professionals. Probably one of the worst Ultas to go to in terms of customer service. I went twice in a week and both times I had a similar experience. The first time I walked around looking for an item for a few minutes and did not receive assistance as two associates were more interested in discussing a possible shoplifting attempt earlier in the day. I'm not sure that loudly discussing this in front of customers is appropriate. The second time I went the male associate who rang me up was extemely rude. He first walked away while I was on line to attend what seemed like a personal matter outside. When he returned he did not even call me over but asked me my phone number from the other end of the line. Then did not bother to ask me how I wanted my receipt as he was more interested in looking at the purple lipstick on a purple haired associate who leaned over the counter to show him her look. I had to grab my own receipt and was not even told to have a nice day as I was being ignored while he marveled over her lipstick color. i have been there to get ombre done, i showed the picture to Erica and she said fine. But the outcome was neither like the picture i showed to her nor ombre. it was like top of my hair dark color, bottom was orange, like two separate colors, nothing blends in. What I was looking for wasn't orange at all either. And then we scheduled an appointment with the designer with blue color girl to fix it. Now, I don't know which one is worse. I spent 5 hours on my first visit and on the 2nd, I spent 2 hours there with addition to $200 and more, and I'm so embarrassed to go out with this hair, I really need to get dyed again.
