Last time I went to a brick and mortar Ulta, I guess it must've been Covid. Without all the testers, visiting the store was much more tedious than just buying stuff online. What a relief today was. I could actually sample products before purchase. I gotta admit online I was limited to products that I had purchased before. Although Ulta has a generous return policy, which I find reassuring just in case I'm allergic to something, I'm not really comfortable buying completely new products online. Giving the testers a try gives me a chance to figure out if I'm going to have a bad reaction. For me, this makes the physical store significantly more attractive. Customer Service was very cheerful. I was greeted at the door and one of the staff members although busy stopped to ask if I needed help. I just went into browse and had a great time looking for new products. I didn't really buy anything partially because I was in a bit of a hurry to get to my next errand and didn't really have time to try too many testers. Although they had a pretty good looking sale, I managed to get lucky with my favorites at the last sale and I'm still completely stocked up. I was looking for one or two new products but I gotta admit the store is big enough and there are enough different brands that I got a little bit lost. Obviously, I need to come back. read more

I stopped in to by a Bobby Brown concealer and I bought way more than that. Initially, when I walked in, every person that worked there was talking to each other in the front by the cash registers. I was briefly acknowledged with a very very brief welcome. They never stopped taking to interact with me. I was lost as I walked through the store to located the concealer because I never been to this location. There was even a group of girls who were in standing for long periods of time chatting in certain areas. They could have honestly been stealing because literally the women who worked in the store were too immersed in their conversation to walk around to check. There was a cashier who stepped away from talking when I finally came back to the front because I was lost with locating what I needed. There was a beauty expert on the floor and although she was helpful with her suggestions, she missed the mark with nanny if the items that she passed me to purchase. She gave me duplicates of the blush (Although she showed me 2 different ones that she said was perfect for me), she said that a soft black eyebrow pencil was good for me although I'm a brownsjin female with dark brown hair (Which I mentioned to get ally my hair color) and then she suggested 2 different highlights, but gave me 1 that was totally different than what she chose for me. I think she needed to pay more attention to what she was passing me and recommending instead of trying to make a sale. I am still new to makeup buying and I bed those that help me to know what they are doing. Overall, I was able to get quite a haul because of her. However, I need to go and do exchanges on many of the suggested items smh. read more

Where to begin! I've sent comments on poor customer service directly to Ulta before and never received a response. So this doesn't seem to be a productive approach. Consequently, I decided to post my story here. I went to my local Ulta store yesterday for a particular product and as is often the case, what I needed wasn't on display. I spent 15 minutes looking through all the tiny boxes to find my shade with no success. I was right up front in the Clinique section, so I looked around for someone to help me and there was no one to be found --even as I walked around the store. As usual there are always small groups of young clerks standing around chatting and laughing never asking if a customer needs help. So I went to the check out desk to ask for help. A very young gal wearing way too much makeup and looking annoyed walked with me to where I was searching for my product by reviewing the many boxes on display. She said nothing to me but started grabbing the boxes and looking for my shade and I told her that I had already looked through all the boxes without any luck. She didn't even acknowledge my comment and continued to check the boxes. I asked whether she'd heard what I said and without even looking at me and in a rude tone said, " We must check all the boxes before we open the drawer. That's our policy." I asked if this was required even when a regular customer says she's already spent time checking all the boxes, and without either looking at me or acknowledging me continued her required task. Of course she didn't find what I needed and then went to the drawer and continued with the same process without a word; no comment, no apology for how long this was taking, etc. Finally she found one of the products in my shade and just sighed, handed it to me and shut the drawer. There were some rude, disrespectful comments during this process, but they're not even worth mentioning. This is definitely not good customer service. She made me feel like I was bothering her with this tedious task. I knew there were other products in the drawer because I've been through this many times before, and I thought about opening the drawer and searching myself, but decided that was inappropriate. If I'm ever in this situation again, I will help myself. I left the store with a knot in my gut, angry with myself for putting up with this treatment--AGAIN-- and not just walking out. I'd prefer to not visit this store again but it's the only show in town. If you visit on a weekend when the managers are there, and sometimes even district or regional managers, you'll see a completely different behavior from the staff. Outrageous. I know this is a long story but it's so common and disturbing that I just needed to get it out there. read more

I rarely make reviews, but I just want to let any potential clients know that if ULTA Beauty stylists make a mistake on your hair, you are NOT getting a refund. I came in for honey brown, and my virgin hair was bleached to borderline white (confirmed by the stylist). My stylist confirmed that anybody that wants blond or brown is recommended to get bleached that level of white. At the end of 4 hours, I did NOT get the hair color I wanted and walked away with gray/white fried hair. Just a disclaimer, the consultation provided to prospective clients protects ULTA from giving refunds to hair disasters and unsatisfied customers. This motion is supported by their stylists, managers and district managers. BE CAREFUL! read more

This store is awful, from the clutter to the customer service. The staff are ALWAYS unhelpful and unfriendly. They do acknowledge you when you walk in, but it ends there as far as service and help go. At checkout, they could not be more miserable. In general, Ulta promotions are unclear and most are never valid on what you are buying. There is small fine print that eliminates most brands, but usually the staff cannot show you where it's stated. Won't be returning when the products can be found elsewhere without hidden/fake promotional "deals". read more

I come to Ulta for all of my makeup needs and have so for years. Today, my experience was especially exceptional and that is due to the fabulous customer service that Nikki gave me. I came in with a very specific thing that I was looking for, knowing that it no longer exists but was set on finding a substitute. Nikki went above and beyond helping me find something that would be comparable. She listened to my description and off we went around the store, trying different products. Her patience was much appreciated- when she showed me something that wasn't quite "sparkly" enough or not the exact shade I had in mind, she didn't let it phase her and was determined to help me find what I had in mind. It was hard for me to describe the exact shade and all you can really do is keep searching and she was by my side, leading the way until not only we found something that I liked, but found an additional item that I liked too! Nikki's kindness, her energy, her authenticity, and her patience are extraordinary. It would have been so easy for her to just give me some half-@** service and go on about her evening, but I could tell that she truly cared about helping me. You can teach someone to sell things, but you can't teach them to genuinely care and you can't teach someone how to be their authentic self. Nikki has all of that naturally. As someone who works in customer service myself, I would just like to say that this is the type of person that a business wants when working with the public. I will be honest, I was very hesitant in coming in for my appointment today. I schedule a last minute hair cut and partial highlight. I was immediately greeted when I arrived with my stylist. Beware of Adan A., a stylist at Ulta in Napa, as he was deeply disrespectful to me. Adan called me ONE HOUR before my appointment on 2/7/2026 with him for an updo to cancel the 2pm appointment I had made on 12/24/2025. He insisted that he was not cancelling my appointment but that he could only see me at 3:30pm that day. How is that not cancelling my 2pm appt? Gaslight much? No apology, no explanation, no care for the fact that his cancelling the 2pm appt had thrown my plans into disarray. He just made his incompetence to manage his schedule my problem. He would not answer my question about if he had tried to resolve the conflict by contacting his other client. He just flat out refused to acknowledge that canceling my appointment ONE HOUR before its time was an issue! He insisted that I accept his offer for 3:30 right then during the call. I told him that I needed time to think about how I can manage my schedule before I could commit to 3:30. BUT Adan would not have it and insisted that I commit to 3:30 right then. He had already cancelled the 2pm appointment. I told him that I could not commit. Later, I went to the Ulta store and talked to the manager, Myea. I showed her the texts for the appointment made on 12/24/2025, confirmations, and the cancellation done by Adan at 1:02 on 2/7/2026 the day of the 2pm appointment! She offered to make things right, but it was too late for me. Adan had done such damage that there was no trust. There are many competent people doing a great job and I don't need to bother with someone who is disrespectful. I would have given Adan a chance if he had admitted that he had made a mistake and that he needed to reschedule. The honest and respectful way to deal with stuff that happens in life. We all have days like that... I get it. BUT no not Adan... Ulta has lost me as a customer. read more

I had an appointment for color with Gina at 11:30 but she was still with her previous client. She wasn't ready to see me until 12:10. Not off to a great start but I was willing to give her some grace. Then later into the appointment, she tells me that she needs me to wait because she needs to curl another client's hair, who has this as a weekly regular appointment. This ends up taking at least another 40 minutes. I would have understood if she wanted to serve her other client during processing times where nothing else could be done with my hair like while the bleach/color is setting, but this was in between processing times and ended up extending my appointment time needlessly. In total, I lost at least an extra 1 hr 20 minutes and was there for 6 hours. Also, it seemed that my appointment was cutting into her next appointment, which ended up starting an hour after the original scheduled time (4:30 appointment time that didn't start until 5:30). Apparently this client told Gina that they had to be somewhere by 6 when she asked if they could come back later. And the worst part was that at the end of it all, my color didn't turn out anything like I asked for. I'm so disappointed because I did this for a vacation coming up and probably won't have time to fix this before I leave. I've had this same color/service done at other Ulta locations with no problem. I will not return to this salon. read more

I don't have any issues with this location, I find the staff very friendly and welcoming. Open to chat for a few moments and are helpful when needed but also don't hover around you too much. The only reason why I am giving 4 stars is because there are a few ( & and I literally just mean a few, because as I mentioned above, the majority of the staff are very nice and friendly) employees, usually at the register, that you can tell just DO NOT WANT TO BE THERE & a little bit make You feel like You are a bother to their existence... plus I always have to remind them to check my points & this makes the cashier usually have to go back a step in the check out process...wouldn't it be easier to just say "would you like me to check your points before proceeding with your payment? ", rather than assuming and having to back track, since you already seem so bothered? I've been on the receiving end of retail jobs, and I understand it's not always rainbows and unicorns, but it's your choice to take on the job... why not make the most out of it while you're there ? Katie, the salon manager, works miracles on my fine hair. She carefully chooses what to use on my hair and spends the time to make it exactly right. My hair looks awesome in any lighting because of her. She's guided me to the best products for my hair and I'm so happy with her suggestions! My daughter, 6yo, even asked for Katy to color her hair so now kiddo has several inches of lightened bright pink hair that is a huge hit. Katie brings an experience to the Ulta Napa Salon that we don't have at our local Ulta so I happily drive to her. She's also extremely friendly! 5:00PM on a Friday, I'm browsing and buying. I'm in the same aisle with two sales associates. It sounded like there was training going on and that's awesome until I hear the berating of customers not returning products into the correct location, customers like to hide products, why can't they just bring it up to the front and say they changed their minds and we can place it in the go back. It's so annoying that customers will just do things. Ummmm you are aware there are customers shopping and can hear every word ? Is this the tone you set up for new employees? Today I had my hair cut and colored by Richie. Going into this appointment, I was so nervous about getting my hair cut and colored the wrong way, but many workers reassured me that he knew what he was doing. Color-wise we played it safe and I trusted him to give me subtle highlights. I'm pretty pleased with the color he went with. However, going into the appointment I had shown him several pictures of the cut I wanted--only for him to give me additional layers I hadn't asked for. Although he meant well and thought it would look good with my natural curls, I'm so sad by the length and amount of layers he gave me. Also, I had mentioned limiting the cut to a trim--maybe 1 or 2 inches and he gave me short layers that almost makes my hair look like a bob with long layers at the bottom. My hair is something that brings me confidence and currently I'm deeply saddened at the way it will look for a while. Richie is kind and means well, but I don't think he understood what look I was going for even when I showed him pictures. read more
