Unfortunately I had to return the stuff I bought because it didn't work out and when I went back these people made me so uncomfortable. I seriously felt like they were talking about me and my daughter. It was shocking since I had such a great experience the 1st time. We'll never again. I felt so uncomfortable to the point where I just left with nothing I needed. I hated the way these three employees made me feel so I left and went to the other location on sisk Rd and they were AMAZING and even apologized for how the riverbank location treated me and my daughter. I'm honestly shocked by how unprofessional and dismissive the customer service was during my visit to this Ulta. This is now the second time recently that I've come into this location and had a horrible experience. I came in needing help finding a few products and tried to ask an associate for assistance. Instead of being greeted or helped, I was completely ignored. The employee looked right at me and continued what they were doing as if helping a customer was an inconvenience. Standing there waiting to be acknowledged and being brushed off is extremely frustrating and frankly very rude. What's disappointing is that this wasn't a one-time situation. I specifically came back hoping the last visit was just an off day, but the experience was exactly the same. At this point it feels like customer service simply isn't a priority at this location. Ulta is supposed to be a place where customers can get guidance, recommendations, and support while shopping for beauty products. Instead, the atmosphere here felt unwelcoming and dismissive. When customers are spending their money in your store, the bare minimum should be acknowledging them and offering assistance when they ask. Management seriously needs to step in and address the lack of professionalism and basic courtesy from the staff here. Four hours go by & I called the store to get a status update to only have them tell me "I'll start it right now give me 10 minutes." This has been my go to Ulta for sometime now. I live not so far from the store. My wife loves to shop here and if I'm in the mood for product, this is where I'll go. I feel like they have a good selection of colognes and products for men. They have a points system that is tracked with your phone number so when you accumulate enough points, it can go towards products. I went in today to pickup my order but I was unsure if the foundation I purchased was the right shade. I asked the lady at the pickup counter if it was possible to check the shade before going home and she was super nice and helped me find the correct shade I needed. The one I had purchased was actually way darker than my skin tone and she got multiple shades and swatched them to on me to help me find the correct shade. Her name was Johleen I believe. Super friendly and very helpful! Will be returning to this location because all the workers I interacted with were nice and helpful with recommendations! My experience here is phenomenal. They welcome you in. And not right away which is a good thing , then ask if you are in need of assistance. As a woman of color it is bad form to ask right away do you need assistant because that imply you really are not welcome. They just want you out and follow you around. I tend to avoid talking to the sales associates as much as possible for reasons like this. Out of all the Ulta's near Modesto this one has to be the one with the most rude and entitled workers, take your business elsewhere maybe like the Ulta in Turlock where they can actually talk to you like a paying customer and will help you and your experience be better. I went to the salon to get my hair dyed darker. I never in my life would've guessed that dying my hair dark would be damaging. I told the "expert" salon hair stylist I wanted to go back to black or dark brown. She asked if I wanted olaplex or keratin and explained that both would help keep my hair healthy. I opted for keratin because I have gone to another Ulta salon before and did the express keratin and loved it. When she was finished with my hair it felt terrible but she said once you wash it, it will be soft. Well when I washed over 8 hours later as instructed, I look like I got electrocuted. The whole top of my head and top layer of hair all the way to thhas broken off little fly aways, I have a chunk of hair that's short and broken in the top layer in the middle of my head, she chopped off. 1/2 and inch and the ends still feel like hay and all down the top part of my hair are baby fly aways that stick out. I have two big events coming up and tried to reach out. All ultas response was to buy more things to help it. Pretty disappointing as I previously told her I had damage 5 years ago and after all the work of trying to restore my hair the damage is back. love ulta, in store experience is good but i always wait 10 mins for a curbside pickup order. it was never this bad but i usually do a pickup order once a month and these past couple months ive been waiting 10 mins for my pickup order. every single time. i'm currently waiting for a curbside pickup order, i got here at 12:45pm it's currently 12:55pm. its making me want to shop somewhere else update: never got an apology for the wait, they weren't even aware i was waiting and they made a mistake by putting my order under a different name and had to wait another 5-8 mins for that to be sorted out. would change my rating to 1 out of 5 stars read more

I'm not one to make reviews on anything if I'm being honest so this just goes to show how upset I was with my last two experiences here. Pretty much with both visits I was ignored when I clearly needed help and again it's okay I get they are busy but it was weird how everyone else around me was getting asked and assisted but me. I didn't even get greeted, just overall the vibe was weird idk how else to say it (I wouldn't solely make a review on this alone, there's more to it). The reason I'm upset is because my last visit I stood in line for about 5 minutes with absolutely no one helping me or even at the very least saying a simple "someone will be with you shortly" Not one single acknowledgment. And the counter was full of workers and they all made eye contact with me several times. I work in retail and have for many years so I know this is not acceptable at all, there was no reason for me to have had this bad of an experience. I do look young so I'm not sure if that's why I wasn't being assisted properly but that should not matter. I dont like to leave negative reviews, so when i came home and immediately posted a bad review, i felt bad and deleted it. Now after several washes I can safely say : DO NOT GO HERE. I wanted some highlights to lighten up the front of my hair. I now have completely different coloured hair than i started with. Its by far the ugliest hair ive had since the box dye years of high school. I dont know how she fucked up this bad but Leti MESSED MY SHIT UP. I made a point to learn the words for what i wanted from my two previous hairdressers who live out of state and i am flabbergasted at how she messed this up so bad. I want some brassiness toned out-i now have some terrible color thats like brown and looks like dirty paint water. The highlights? A full in joke. Its pathetic how bad it looks. I stopped at Ulta last night to buy my friends daughter a birthday gift. Right away I was greeted by an employee who was very helpful. I explained I wanted something for a teenage girl and was hearing a lot about the Ariana Grande perfume. She showed me the different perfumes and shared what her personal favorite was. When I still couldn't decide she showed me a mini collection of each perfume. It was perfect!! I really appreciate her help. The line moved quickly and when I got to the counter Elizabeth checked me out . I had some questions & she was happy to answer all of them . She was very nice . Came in blonde (2pics above not their work) & came into ulta few weeks after just to get a bright tone over to freshen the blonde up but left brunette... (bottom two pics) I am never one to leave bad reviews but I don't want anyone experiencing what I did. This was the first time I went into the salon for a service at the riverbank location and I wish I cancelled the appointment. Got a refund back after being told to "just wash it out a few times" but still was brunette... was given negative energy by the GM manager when I came for my refund. I apologize for any inconvenience my complaint caused and thanked her for understanding and she said nothing to me. Another amazing transformation by Leti! I booked a highlight session online (definitely should have done a consultation before so I could have prepared her for the time) but we ended up doing a major color correction to strip my color out and go blonde. Leti as always is extremely talented, so kind and informative and will always prioritize the health of your hair. I didn't even think we'd get to anything above a golden blonde, but MAN did her work BLOW me away. I came home and my husband couldn't stop obsessing over it. Highly recommend booking with her a month in advance as she is always booked, but I've also seen the other stylists work/art as well and they're also amazing!! read more

Went here today to get a toner that was listed $7 online but was initially $14 (side note: it was not an online exclusive sale) and went to the store physically, saw FIVE toners on the shelf, and was told it was "only online exclusive" even tho the app said it wasn't. Not only that, but getting help from the workers was a STRUGGLE. No one wanted to help and were avoiding our glances and would talk and gossip among themselves. Went to the ulta in Modesto and they called the managers in riverbank about the sale and kept insisting there toners were "OUT OF STOCK." WE WERE JUST THERE 30MIN AGO?!!!! (the app also says there in stock!!) Luckily the Modesto employees were EXTREMELY HELPFUL and I was able to get the product FOR THE PRICE IT WAS LISTED ($7) and were really nice overall. Providing two reviews for this store. My first review is for the salon. I recently made an appointment to get my hair colored and cut, but was not provided with an honest estimate on the overall pricing. I was told over the phone by an experienced stylist that I could come in for a consultation and didn't know she would be charging me for every minute I was there. I spoke to two different stylists who differed in their pricing drastically. I spent about 5 hours at the salon and was charged over $600! I am only giving two stars instead of one because I actually got a close enough color match to what I had described and shown through pictures. The stylist bragged about her work and I have to say, she did okay for the price I paid. I have been to many salons who offered just as good quality of service for half the price. I understand the economy has changed and prices have increased but I was not notified when my tab increased from $200 up to $600. My hair felt dry after it was washed and styled. Just a suggestion to management, train your staff to be upfront with all pricing instead of letting stylists do a bunch of things to someone's hair and then charge them an arm and a leg for it. I will not be returning to this location. I feel like I was wrongfully charged when my stylist was late, had to run around doing other things and did not notify me of additional charges. Thieves! As far as the store as a whole, it's pretty neat and organized. The few times I have visited, the store had mediocre stock of things. But during Christmas time it was awful to visit this location. People were rude and were giving a lot of judgmental looks. They are terrible at answering their phones. Not sure why either because they aren't incredibly busy. If you're visiting this store, I would strongly suggest just to buy products. Don't go to the salon. read more

Went here for some mommy me-time and it was amazing. I had an all-over color and some highlights added to the front and under of my hair. Leti was absolutely amazing, she listened to everything I wanted, she offered water, a new mask after mine got all dirty, and she even went to the brow section to find out if they had an open appointment for a wax-which they did! Sky waxed my brows today and she did an incredible job and made them look perfect. They weren't even that red after the waxing and it didn't hurt very much during. I was in need of a haircut so I booked a curly cut and a deep condition through their website. A day before, someone from Ulta called to confirm my appointment and informed me that a deep conditioning came with all curly cuts so she took that off my booking. When I arrived to my appointment I was offered the conditioning and said yes as I thought it was part of the curly cut. In the end I did not get either a curly cut (it was completely normal and not for my type of hair) and was charged for the conditioning. Ulta please do better to train your employees on what is part of a package and what isn't. Also don't advertise curly cuts if you don't have the skilled employees to do that. The haircut isn't bad but with my curly hair I look like Lord Farquaad :( read more

Honestly if I could give this one star I would. My MUA cancelled on me at 11pm the night before an event. So I made a last minute appt at Ulta despite my hesitation. The stylist was not bubbly or outgoing. She takes me to the Clinique bar & has the girl there color match me. None of the colors were a "full coverage match" they use "stay matte" on me. Why would you absolutely insist on using that foundation/brand when there is only 16 shades available? Stylist takes me back to the chair & does my makeup. When I say my one year old niece could have applied smoother foundation I mean it. I was clear that I wanted full coverage. For background I have dark spots & acne scarring. She didn't use a concealer or anything. The bottom half of my face looked like I had no foundation. I asked for a Smokey eye & I looked like a raccoon. The lipstick we decided on together made me look like a clown, but she didn't say let's pick another. When she spun the chair I was fighting back tears of wasted time & complete disappointment. She was supposed to do my hair , I was looking for half up/half down. She started teasing the crap out of it like it was 2001 one & I gave a mortified look & she brought the tease down. The fly away & non smoothing looked half asses at best , again I could've done my hair & much better at that. She used a 1inch barrel curling iron & the curly had pretty much fallen out by 7pm. After getting up from the chair I found tester makeup remover & removed the lip & foundation. I only had thirty minutes to get to the venue, could not reapply the eye. Redid my entire face (minus eye) & didn't have time to redo my hair. This experience at Ulta truly ruined my night bc I didn't take pictures bcuz I was embarrassed of my hair & eye makeup. In small talk with the stylist -- she told me that she wasn't an MUA & I mean okay I understand but Ulta should not be allowing people to work on peoples faces charging "full glam" prices if they literally have no idea what they're doing. I was at ultra riverbank yesterday, the lady that helped me with mascara was very pleasant. I went to check out and was not satisfied with the service. I have the receipt with a name. I had received a gift card and handed it to her and she slid it back and said "well open it." I did and I wasn't sure about sliding it in the machine so I asked. She was getting very aggravated because of my questions. I did leave the wrapper from the gift card on the counter she was not pleased with me. I had no where to put the wrapper and received a look. Don't have your hair done by Leti and Sequoia! I came here to have my hair done by Leti. She introduced me to her assistant Sequoia who was rude from the beginning of my appointment. She rolled her eyes at everything I asked about my hair and scoffed everytime she had to do something. It made me really uncomfortable. Then Leti who told me that she has been doing hair for so long, like over ten years, makes my hair dark brown when I came to be brightened up with highlights. I even had a picture of what I wanted and I told her it came out brown where is my blonde and she said to just "give it a few washes". Um no. All of my blonde was gone and I was now seriously a brunette. I was so embarrassed I didn't want anyone to see me. I still had to pay for the full service and just hope a "few washes" fixed it. Has anyone else had a rude experience with the old lady with glasses ? I believe she has a little color in her hair and she is possibly a manager. I was shopping for my granddaughters last week , I noticed this associate being very short and rude with a woman who was possibly Syrian? . I frequent Ulta at least once a week, This is the second time I witnessed her arrogance while attending to an ethnic customer. I felt so bad for the Syrian lady.
