I've been to this location so many times and prefer it HEAVILY over Sephora's that may be in a kohls because of the limit of brands and variety as well as them being sold out of things. THIS location however never is!!! As much as I love other make up stores there are simply some brands exclusively being sold here and unless you're heading to Neiman in the cosmetics department so this is amazing!!! My best friend and I come here quite often and I am a rouge member my shopping addiction of cosmetics is a little out of control, not to mention this one specifically is right next to a Starbucks in the mall and across the Apple Store. Lethal. Anyways there was a few Dior lip products as well as patrick ta that I was looking EVERYWHERE for and the girls here are so sweet they not only helped me find what I was looking for but right before I left I got a couple more things as cute too faced lip gloss and liquid Armani pink blush which pairs so nicely with my Chanel blush on top of it or Patrick Ta. Took my mom Mother's Day to get her some blush she's not fully educated on application of makeup and neither am I. we use Minimal makeup daily . However the employees weren't as helpful.I felt like I had to engage more to get service. Would have been nice to have better customer service to help my mom get some options for blush to match her skin tone and make her feel more comfortable and explain more instead of just assuming that every person he walks in the store, knows how to use all the makeup correctly. I had an unpleasant experience after leaving from this Sephora location while trying to use my merchandise card. From the moment my boyfriend and I walked in, we felt unfairly profiled. What should have been a simple purchase quickly turned into an awkward situation for us due to the way it felt staff was treating us... they were watchful, and unnecessarily suspicious just because I declined wanting a basket to shop, since it was a quick simple essential purchase...There was no reason for us to feel singled out or judged for using a merchandise card as well, that I finally had some time to come in for since you are forced to use them at an actual store and not online. Funny how the vibe quickly changed towards us at the fact we were actually in line waiting to buy the items as if they expected us to walk out with lip balms and eyeliner? Worst experience I've ever had. The workers were racist and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. They kept staring at me and watching my every move like I was doing something wrong. At one point, I took my inhaler out and put it back in my bag, and they assumed it was a vape. Went into the store on Wednesday 2/4 at approximately 4:45 pm to buy a very specific lipgloss my daughter wanted. A Sephora rep pointed me in the right direction and mentioned once I decided on the color, she could check what was available. After taking a few minutes to decide on color, a second employee came up and asked if I needed help. I asked her if she would grab the color lipgloss I had chosen, in which she rudely stated they were out (without checking). I told her the first employee mentioned checking a drawer for stock. She was adamant they didn't have any until their next shipment and DID NOT check. I was almost out of the door when I decided to check online for nearby stores (my daughter really wanted this lipgloss). The store I was currently in (dale road) showed it was in stock and available. I decided to give it one more go and walked back to the lipgloss area. A third employee offered me help immediately and opened the drawer to check. Low and behold a complete FULLY STOCKED product in the drawer. The associate then relayed into their employee ear pieces to make sure to check the drawers for stock. I was able to get the lipgloss without having to drive to another store. I paid for my product and was happy it worked out. This would have been ok had it ended there. However, upon my exit, as I'm literally hand on door ready to leave, the second (remember not so helpful/rude employee) walks up and in the most condescending/rude (yet again) tone says, "you enjoy that". Well thanks TINA, I will. However what I don't enjoy is the lack of customer service and unwillingness to attend to a customer. She could definitely use some re-training at best and at worst maybe look for a job NOT dealing with people if she dislikes it so much?! Was this long winded- yes. A first world problem with so much else going on- sure. But is TINA walking away without being called out- NOPE. Probably won't visit this location again. I walked in as a first time shopper not knowing what I was looking for as a gift for my young daughter who asked for Sephora. I'll also add that when I'm not at work, my look is best described as homeless with an apparent allergy to properly applying makeup. I didn't feel judged AT ALL. Amanda was very helpful and walked around the store to show me what would be great for a beginner and what she's not ready to use for her skin and age. We picked out quite a bit together. I went in thinking $50-60 was a good range but ended up walking out spending almost $150, she loved everything! I wasn't pressured into buying anything and she really knew her stuff and was able to explain things in depth. She was -by far- the most efficient and helpful person I've dealt with at any beauty store. I often will pick up stuff for my wife on my way home from work. Time to update my review as the old employees I talked about I don't see here anymore. Every time I come here I'm helped by Angela & honeyyyy she is the best!!!!! She goes above n beyond to help me. She's extremely knowledgeable about all the products. In fact anytime I'm helped out at San Jose location or by anyone else I always end up having to make a return & it's extremely frustrating. I never get the right product. But every time Angela helps me she does such an amazing job helping me. She was the only person who nailed my daughter's color match for foundation. 3 times I had to make a return. Not with her. She knew exactly what we were looking for and matched my daughter beautifully. I'm sad to see that she's not at Sephora as much. I'm going to tell you I only want to go if she's there. Otherwise I'd rather order online. Because I'm tired of wasting my time with employees who aren't as knowledgeable with products and can't color match. It's much easier dealing with a an experienced beauty advisor. And she absolutely has the best personality!! She's easy to talk to , friendly, & so so helpful. Just got color matched a few weeks ago and the cosmetic specialist made me feel like I was a super inconvenience and was trying to help everyone else as she was trying to color match me to my correct color.(usually order online only) I ended up buying all the products she recommended spending a few hundred dollars. I did my make up a few days later and I looked so white !(casper white) I just returned all my make up two days ago and ANGELA helped me re match to my correct color. She's literally the only one that knows what she's doing and was so nice about helping me and was very patient. YOU GUYS NEED MORE ANGELAS! I'm literally only going to go to her when I go in. I've been to this Sephora multiple times and I've always had a great experience. I go so much that Brandi always recognize me and assist me. Yesterday I went in and of course I saw Brandi but this time Tabitha assisted me. It was my first experience with her and she was phenomenal as well. She spent a lot of time helping me find the products I wanted and compare them to other products that I didn't know about to see which was a bettet fit for my cosmetic needs. I'm pretty sure they were thinking I was stealing and honestly it made me so uncomfortable I didn't even buy anything and had anxiety and left. I got asked 5 times if I needed help. 3 by the same person. She handed me a bag for 2 things i was just kind of looking at the colors of so I put them back and the bag. then found me again to ask me about if i changed my mind about the item. like clearly? if i didn't have them in my hand ma'am. Went there the other day. So many employees but no one was really helping only a couple were busy. Most were standing around talking. The door greeter was of great assistance though he was pleasant. After years of going in there once in a while. I've come to the conclusion that they're picky on who they offer help to. Maybe they thought i didn't have money to spend. But every experience I've had at this location has always been MEH-. Ulta on sisks is always a pleasant place to be. They're always walking around with baskets just Incase you need one. I asked the girl if she knew what silk lining eyelashes were she said no. it's a mascara that helps your eyelashes grow white looking good. The sheer fact that Sephora carries the Nars line alone sets it apart from other beauty emporiums. Way, way apart. Since this is the Modesto store, smaller town translates to smaller selection compared to the SF stores. Such is life. Unfortunately, the small town thing also translates to the really coveted items selling out. But they'll happily call the jcpenney store, right here in the same mall, to check if they have your item in stock. And most of the time, they do. The real gem here is Jane. She knows products & inventory like the back of her hand. When you consider the inventory runs in the thousands, that's beyond impressive. Ask for Jane. Not happy with their customer service. I had to look through the whole store to find what I was looking for. So I found what I was looking for, the glow recipe clay mask and and the Tarte big ego brow pomade. Went to pay and I still ordered the glow recipe kit and it will be delivered to my home. So I spent over $100 and when I asked if she had any samples to give she opened a little drawer by the register and said no we don't. She made me feel like it was coming out of her make up bag. You would think for what I spent I could get a little something. And that's not all. She didn't offer for me to use my points. Today I went in with my son. Due to covid they have you wait outside then they let you in. Stephanie (The store director) made conversation with me while I waited and she made me feel welcomed. She also was super sweet to my 6 year old son. While I did my shopping I was approached by Kenzie. She asked if I needed help with anything and I told her I needed a skincare routine. She was so knowledgeable and everything she recommended I purchased. She even color matched me for a new foundation. I've never felt comfortable going in makeup stores because its a tad bit intimidating. I was super happy with my service and my purchases. Well I don't know much about standards on makeup stores so I'll just share my experience. I went there of course because my girlfriend couldn't resist. My first thought of the store was this must be a girls paradise. I believe my girlfriend was exploring foundation so I went walking around as she and a sephora worker talked business. I saw some amazing makeup kit deals that I think I will get her for Christmas or her birthday. As we were checkin out the cashier was very helpful at describing the different texture of the make up product. My girlfriend is a sephora member and she just had a birthday so I guess she got eyeliner and lipstick for free so that's cool and she even gave me a small sample red polo cologne. I left happy I give them a 5 because even thou my girlfriend says they didn't scan her face to show her exact skin ID like other sephoras. I needed a foundation for a wedding in Montana. I had some suggestions from friends and I went in early in the morning because I have anxiety and needed to get color matched. Maria went above and beyond helping me! She got me color matched to my preferred makeup style and was able to educate me on some different concealers for my skin type. I can usually always find what I'm looking for. The only issue is the employees. Few are very nice, while others are very stuck up. It's like if I go in looking good I'm treated great, but if I'm going after a work out or after I drop my kids off from school, I'm treated like I'm trying to steal or like I know nothing about makeup. The girl who does this the MOST is the one with black hair to her shoulders and a few colored pieces in her hair. She's the one that is always switching attitudes depending on how she views you.
