After standing in the middle of the store for about 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging me--hair in a bun and a child on my hip--I was starting to feel a little overlooked. I completely understand that the store was busy, with a long line and about four cashiers working the register. Thankfully, a very kind, tall, beautiful employee named Alex came up to me and asked if I needed help. Right away my grandson reached out to her and he's not one to warm up to just anyone . She was incredibly sweet, thorough, and genuinely attentive. Alex took the time to help me with four different facial products, making sure I felt confident, happy, and satisfied with each recommendation. She truly made me feel seen and valued as a customer. The Ulta Beauty in Santa Maria is excellent. The store is very clean, associates are friendly, helpful but not overbearing. Yes, there have been some rude employees in the past but they do not last. With the free Ulta Beauty Rewards membership I receive benefits and promotional offers, coupons, discounts, and gifts with a purchase of popular brand items. Came in looking for help shade matching foundation. (I would like to add I came in 10'min after they opened hoping it would be slow and I wouldn't be bothering people) Asked if they had a shade in stock bc I was unsure if I was between the two. Associate went and checked, came back said "nope don't have it" and just walked away and went back to setting up a display leaving me in the aisle. I have always been happy shopping with my daughters at Ulta and was so glad we have one in Santa Maria.The staffs are nice and helpful. I have discovered many new products by their help and assistance. But last week I wanted to try their salon which I horribly regret. I booked got a haircut and highlights. I showed my photos to give her an idea for the color highlights. Already the haircut was not what I wanted but most of all the color is horrible. It didn't turn out well at all after spending so much time ( got a work off) and money. I am now so miserable. I really regret to have tried their salon and so expensive. My hair is ruined looking like dry straws. I want my beautiful hair back. What shall I do now. My husband says my hair looks dead she ruined my hair and I need to shave it and wear a wig. Great location, with plenty of parking. The store has a nice lay out that is pretty standard of most Ulta's. The selection is good and I have always been happy with the customer service. My wife still LOVES this new store; however, it needs more help to keep the line moving. One register open on a Saturday night is not too kind. Santa Maria is responding and we hope the inventory stays stacked. Cotton balls and Tissue paper needs constant refilling. Layout is pleasing and well-thought out. I have a complaint for a girl named Yvette that rang me up on 12/28/23 in the evening. She rang out customers before our turn and she complained very loudly to her coworker about them; also threw in the F bomb as she was complaining. Extremely unprofessional. Look I know she probably hates dealing with people because of the holiday season but just because she's not having a great day doesnt mean she should talk shit LOUDLY and complain about a customer. I never thought I would review an Ulta, but their customer service is so off the charts that I have to! I placed an online order an hour before the store opened because I realized that I forgot my make up bag back home, which happened to be an hour away past this store. Not being one to go winetasting for a day without makeup on (lol), I headed up to the store to be there when they opened, even though my order wasn't ready yet. The staff were SO nice and picked my order as soon as I showed up, even though I was there early. They were so genuinely kind and pleasant while I waited. They chatted cheerfully with me and even playfully teased my boyfriend who was shopping and refused a bag, despite him having like 12 things in his hands! The store that's close to me should take lessons from this store about how to be friendly and helpful. Their inventory was much more stocked than the store in my town. All my brands were in stock. I have worked in retail and customer service for 10 plus years and let me tell you these girls don't know the first thing about it. First off I am a prime candidate for an upsale and not one girl asked me if I needed help. When I went to checkout they were demanding a phone number, I said no I'm fine thank you for the tenth time. The girl was in disbelief that I wouldn't give my phone number that she called a manager over and the manager said what's your phone number and I said no, I'm not giving it I'm ok, I don't need your "deal" or "program". The manager proceeded to tell me I could not purchase without one. So rude, pushy, and lack of skills is an understatement. Needless to say I still have over $300 in gift cards! I got home & tried to fix them but since she fused some into a clump, didn't reach the outside edges, & was so far away from my natural lashes - I just had to rip them off. So disappointed I wear them from time to time & place them but I thought I'd treat myself. Totally dissatisfied with this store from the employees who have no work ethic to the quality of work being done by a hair stylist. Corporate management needs to revamp the hiring of employees with better experience not be dependent on the outcome of an employee after being trained to perform in their job. My wife had a terrible experience from a hair stylist who claimed to have expertise in hair coloring. $384.00 was spent total for 2 hair coloring treatments. It was still not done the way it was said by the stylist. When approached to discuss the hair coloring done the stylist became disrespectful stating that she had personal issues at home and with my wife as well. This is unbecoming of an employee who gave us the impression that she knew what she was doing. No customer should be treated in this manner when asking a question. This employee should be reprimanded in the manner of being replaced in another position or terminated. Solely, based on her poor attitude and disrespect. If this happened to one individual it will happen again to another paying customer. If someone has personal issues they should ask for time off to clear up their mind and not take it to work. This stylist's name is Cheyenne Owens, She is taking advantage of her position and overall stepped her boundaries on treating a customer and misleading their expectations. My friend and I (both male) went in the other day because he was looking for an eyeshadow pallet for a female co worker of his. When we walkes in there was an employee stocking near the front and merely looked at us and didn't say a word. I didn't think much of it, but as we shopped for rougly 15-20 minutes I noticed that most of the employees would stare or watch, but none of them would come up or offer assistance. I even verbally mentioned to my friend that I was trying to find a specific eye shadow pallet near earshot of the employees and still nothing. I was honestly surprised that the entire time we were there no one offered any help or greeted us. Really disappointed in this location. Customer service is lacking. I asked to be color matched for a foundation and the sales associate proceeded to try to talk me out of it due to my skin type (Sephora recommends this foundation due to my skin type ). She recommended a different foundation which I'm currently using and dislike. Another associate couldn't believe I didn't like that foundation and still wouldn't color match me to the one I had requested. She then asked me what my skin care routine is, because she still couldn't believe I didn't like it. Also, the lines here are really long as they don't seem to have enough cashiers. Was shopping in this store and witnessed an employee named JoJo being extremely rude to a new employee. Said employee was kind to me and asked me if I needed help earlier. She simply asked him a question and he snapped very rudely at her for no reason, in front of me any my friends. He berated her for asking a question and told her in a very rude manner that she can worry about that after her shift. All she did was ask a question? It wasn't even busy, and they were fifteen minutes from closing. First of all, it was very unprofessional to snap at a fellow employee in front of customers. I made an appointment at the Santa Maria Ulta because I can never get a Saturday appointment in Lompoc. I made a 79mile round trip drive just to be told that the sylist Karen could not do that style. The other stylist next to her also chimed in and said oh no we can't do pixie cuts. The picture I showed her was a stacked bob. If 2 stylists there can't tell the difference between a pixie and a stacked bob then they should not be working there. First off when I got there Karen seemed surprised and annoyed that I had an appointment. I have my appointment confirmation on my phone and even a reminder. She kept asking me what I was there for several times without giving me a chance to even get the words out. If you want an expensive trim then that's the place for you. If you want a real haircut don't go there. Save yourself the time and money to go there. I had to give one star but I would have loved to give zero stars read more

Holy crap I have never felt so welcomed in an Ulta store before! I went in today looking for skin care products that I could take in my carry on and had no less than three people help me! Three! Every single one of them friendly and helpful, not at all pushy and they all acted like they actually cared. I love Ulta, but this is the first time in an Ulta store where workers actually seemed to care about me being there and not act like I was an annoyance when asking questions. Even better, they helped me find just what I needed and I'm looking forward to trying the products out. The store itself is clean and well organized, and I look forward to a return trip. So really, for my first time in this particular Ulta it was an awesome experience. I really hope the company realizes what a gem they have in their people here. read more

She called a manager over and Manager tells me they have no promo items left they only got 5! I am disappointed every time I go to this store. Somehow, I forget... need sometime and go back and then I'm angered again! Final straw was yesterday when I discovered they lied to my face so that I would not take a refund instead of exchange an item. I bought too faced concealer instead of foundation in the shade I wanted. At home I had received a sample of the foundation "light beige" and it's perfect. I asked for an exchange. They went to grab it, she brought 4 other colors and said they were out of that shade. I said that was the only one I wanted. They explained the concealer works just as well, I basically said no thank you I would like a refund. They were getting ready to process that when another girl came up and said "are we having another light beige dilemma? " I had no idea to what she was referring. She said "The foundation does not come in that shade. " lNow I'm really confused because I was almost sure that was the name on the sample I had at home. She said there is a natural beige? Thinking I was mistaken. I made the exchange for that. This morning I looked at my sample package... it IS Light BEIGE!!! I checked on line Light Beige IS ONE of the shades in the foundation. They just didn't have it in stock and didn't want be to get a refund the day before they closed their doors for 2 weeks for COVID-19 or possibly longer. I won't return to the store!! I found all the makeup lines I love and guess what? No snotty Sephora-like employees! I spoke with Kaitlyn at the benefit eyebrow bar and made an appointment to come back for an eyebrow waxing . Went back at the appointed time, she was ready for me! And I almost don't want to tell the yelp universe how great she was because then she will get so busy, but I am going to do it ! You know, I promised myself some time ago that I would not post any more 'one star' reviews...but then something terrible happens. Ulta is terrible, well actually, their customer service is terrible. We have a "Ulta Beauty" credit card that we use here at the store and online for orders, but recently we've had problems with the card, and their customer service folks don't care! Or they lie to you or they are incapable of doing their jobs properly. Not sure which is true. First we had a problem with a late payment charge. We called the credit card company and discussed the issue with their customer rep, and she assured us that no fee would be charged. We'd sent the full payment to them in plenty of time for it to arrive, but the mail swallowed it for about 10 days...when it finally arrived, it was "late" and we were charged a penalty after being assured that we would not. Then more recently we discovered two fraudulent charges on our account made by some crook somewhere. After initiating a claim with Ulta the first charge (a lower amount) was forgiven, but the second criminal action was not forgiven. It was for $140 to AirB&B and they said that charge was "examined" or researched or whatever, and then denied. Please understand, dear readers, NOBODY in our entire family has ever used AirB&B nor have we traveled anywhere in the last 2-plus years because of the pandemic. Maybe Ulta uses a third party credit company to run their credit card business, but even if they do that does not matter. It is all still the same company, and the bottom line is that the Ulta credit card sucks. Their customer service process is unfair and idiotic, and the people are impossible to deal with. Don't ever get their credit card and don't bother calling customer service because they won't believe you and they won't help you. read more

We came back 5 minutes before the appointment and waited.....and waited....and waited. 25 minutes later we walked out. The manager came to the front and assisted the checker with sale and left and there was another worker behind the counter with her back turned putting stickers on something. My wife loves Ulta. She frequented the SLO location before the new one opened in Santa Maria. This new location lacks heavily in customer service and inventory upkeep. My wife is a makeup aficionado and often the makeup consultants at this location lack knowledge on new products. I think regular training and better management could improve this location, but until then my wife is making me drive her to SLO to buy her makeup. read more
