Positive-Applied adequate pressure for a deep tissue massage. Negative-The first session, I understand the questions and the need for communication. But at the end of this session, I informed her that I prefer to not communicate during a massage. Thinking that I would be listened to, I then booked two appointments online. The next one I wanted to leave within the first 15 minutes of arriving. She did not listen to my request to not have ongoing communication during the session. But that wasn't the main reason I wanted to leave. The first 15 minutes of the session she asked me what worked and didn't work for the last session, I told her places on my body that I did not want touched. I felt like I was being argued with for the next 15 minutes as to why she felt the need to touch me in those areas. Then at the end of the session when I was tired, and just wanted to go home, she spent another 10 minutes trying to show me in a book why she felt the need for these areas to be addressed. I already said no. But I'm not listened to. My other massage therapist was wonderful and listened to me and never touched those areas. Unfortunately she's too far away For me to continue to see and so that's why I thought I would give Lauren a chance. During the session she kept bringing up reasons why she felt the need to go in those areas. I also felt like I was being talked down to about why she felt the need to work on those areas even though I said no. I am BIPOC and some of the things she was doing were not culturally sensitive. I understand as a white practitioner she may not understand these issues, so I spent part of that time explaining it to her. I was still not listened to and she insisted continuing to do these things. I wanted to leave the session, but I had already paid, so I stayed. I left that session, feeling frustrated, angry, and demeaned. I went online to cancel my next appointment and she sent me a text back saying that she would not refund my money. Adding insult to injury. I didn't want my money to fully go to waste, so I sent a Caucasian coworker to use my remaining session. She, too, felt that the session was more chatty than she likes. She, too, will not be returning. Rarely would I write a bad review. But this one had me so upset I just had to. There's so many massage therapists in the city. In 2018, I initially went to see a chiropractor for my aches and pain while pregnant. After my chiropractor appointment, the doctor suggested getting a massage to relieve any muscle aches, and joint pains, and just improve relaxation. Of course, I then booked an appointment, and the massage therapist was Lauren. From there on, I have seen Lauren for prenatal, postnatal, and therapeutic massages - she has been my official massage therapist and my husband's! I used to only drive 15-20 minutes to get massages from her, but since she relocated, I now drive about an hour. I did consider looking for a massage therapist closer to home, but I worry that it would not be the same as Lauren's massages - it is hard to find such an incredible massage therapist like Lauren. Lauren is amazing, she is very knowledgeable and passionate about what she does. I have had many massages but none of them can compare with Lauren's. Her patience, soft-spoken tone, pressure points/levels, and much more are what keep me going back to her. She listens to you and will work accordingly. Being a dental assistant to a hygienist, a mom, and playing physical sports massages from Lauren are much needed. If there is any muscle tension Lauren would tell you during your session or afterward and let you know any stretches, exercises, and/or activities to do to relieve the tension at home. It is crazy to believe that I have been getting massages from Lauren for four years now and within those four years I have recommended Lauren to many friends and family members. Those that have sought massages from Lauren all had positive things to say about her and their massage session, they also did mention that they will be going back to see her. Communicating with Lauren is very easy - every time I schedule an appointment with Lauren, I would always get an email from Living Tree Wellness, with confirmation, reminders, etc., and if Lauren needed anything else, such as if she had a question, she would send a quick text. She has a quick response time - either on that same day or at least one to two days. I have never had a problem communicating with Lauren. Every time, before heading out to my massage sessions, I always ask my husband to tag along with me as I would not want to drive back home an hour after my massage session only because I would be too relaxed. Literally, words cannot describe Lauren's work, you must go in and give Lauren a try! Her massages are unbelievable, after every session, I feel so refreshed. I will definitely be going back. I'll start off this review by saying I usually HATE massages. I've been gifted so many but I never enjoy the experience. Sometimes I feel uncomfortable saying that what they're doing is uncomfortable and I just never get any positive outcomes from it. Recently my doctor suggested that I see a massage therapist because of some issues I've been having with stress and some muscle strain in my shoulders and upper back. Someone at work recommended this place so I thought I would give it a chance. Lauren was THE ABSOLUTE BEST. I finally get it now when people say massages are relaxing and they feel rejuvenated after. After the first day, most of the pain in my neck was gone. I had such a relaxed sleep that night as well. She was a great listener and understood my concerns coming into my appointment. I discussed some health issues I have been experiencing and she created such a safe space so that I was comfortable telling her what was going on. She was great at explaining her process and what was going on so we were on the same page the whole time. I've been seeing her for the past few weeks and already I see a huge improvement in my stress and my posture. Even my skin looks clearer! Lauren is a miracle worker for sure. I wanted to give an honest review of a situation that I recently experienced with this business. I won a gift certificate for a 60 min massage at a public city event in the month of May. I attempted to book the massage online with the coupon code listed on the certificate but the coupon code didn't work. I then called the phone number listed online but there was no answer and the voicemail box was full. I continued to call until Lauren answered. At that time, I booked an appointment and Lauren didn't go over a cancellation policy with me. On the day of my appointment I had an emergency and had to reschedule. Again I tried calling Lauren but there was no answer and the voicemail box was full again (2 months later). I tried this number 3 times. I then found a different phone number listed online and called this number and again there was no answer, but I left a voicemail asking Lauren to call me back ASAP. During this time, I also sent an email saying that I needed to reschedule my appointment. I never received a call back from Lauren but I did get an email saying that there is a 24-hour cancellation notice policy and that the gift certificate couldn't be used anymore. Lauren stated that when I booked there was a terms and conditions that went over the 24-hour cancellation policy. I sent Lauren an email stating that I was not made aware of this policy because when I attempted to book online it didn't work and Lauren didn't go over this policy with me on the phone. Lauren still hasn't responded to this email that I sent over a week ago. It seems unethical to give out a gift certificate at a public event where the business would get free advertisement and then not have the coupon code work and not answer the phones and have the voicemail box full. Even if someone does call to cancel before 24 hours there wouldn't be proof because the voicemail box is always full. read more
