Don't let a child run your business. I took my car in this morning at 9:30. I brought my own equipment for them to install and although it was my fault for ordering the wrong part, they neglected to tell me until I had a $200 bill. How did this start? I walked in half hour after opening and the employee walks from the back like he just woke up. I explained I had the premium sound in the car and gave him the equipment with a list of all the items in the box. Feeling very dismissed because he was the pro I decided to leave it for them to do the job. If they are the pros why wouldn't they have informed me before I accumulated a bill. Ok fine my mistake for leaving the car. It should have ended there with me being upset at myself. But nope. After arguing with the employee and being talked over the whole time I paid and left. On the way home I found blemishes that were not there and a half reinstalled original system. The stereo now sticks out 1.4 of an inch from factory flush and I have scratches on interior pieces. So for a $200 bill for nothing I have to find non existent interior trim for a 15 year old sports car. The only thing stopping me from taking back to fix what I paid for is fear of more damage to the car. I highly DO NOT recommend taking anything to them. Completely unprofessional, a total Waste of my time and my money. If the owner reads this my advice from one local business owner to another? Hire someone other then a kid to run your business. You know what they say? Getting one good review is impossible but getting a lot of bad reviews is easy. AVOID THIS SHOP! FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! I felt I needed to share my experience with Ultimate Sounds to try and save others from having to go through what I did. I bought my wife a Nissan 350Z Convertible as a Christmas Present and as a audio enthusiast, I wanted to put a nice sound system in it. We were down in Wilmington for a vacation and I looked around for car stereo installation shops. I found Ultimate Sounds and it seemed like a good option. That is a decision I have come to regret. I went in and talked with them and decided on a Kenwood DVD/Bluetooth head unit. My wife liked to play music from her iPhone and this unit had the ability to link to her iPhone via bluetooth. I also wanted to improve the bass so I bought a JBL amp and a Rockford Fosgate sub to replace the stock Bose sub behind the drivers seat. The total came to about $1000. For some folks, that is a lot for a head unit and sub upgrade, but years ago I used to compete in car audio and knew what I wanted to get. The install took a little longer than planned but I have gotten used to that. When they took me back, the first thing I noticed was that the dash was horribly scratched all around the head unit. They weren't going to mention anything to me and I looked at them in disbelief. So you have some background, this car was pristine. My wife kept it immaculate and the dash was like new. What was left after the install was incomprehensible. And them not bringing it up immediately was truly mind boggling, as if I would miss something like this. I only wish I could post a picture of it, you wouldn't believe it. In any event, I told them they were going to have to fix it. Honestly, I could have done a better job myself buying the stuff from Crutchfield and installing it myself. It literally looked like this was the first time they had done this and used a screwdriver to pry the dash off. I walked into the shop and had them write up a promissory note to me saying they would fix it which I still have. I have worked with enough install shops to know that once you leave the shop it is over. The new dash kit is $300 which I certainly don't want to pay for but it can't stay like this, it looks awful. To make matters worse, about 1 week after the install, the subwoofer failed. When I took it to a reputable audio place in Raleigh, they indicated that the install was just atrocious. The sub was not sealed in the box and had blown because of the install and that it wouldn't be covered under the manufacturers warranty because of the install. At this point, all I wanted was my dash back. I wasn't about to buy another sub from Ultimate Sounds so I went ahead and bought one in Raleigh and had them install it. Another $400 out of pocket, but at least it was done right. So to make a long story shorter, I have spent the last year (yep, a year) trying to get them to replace the dash including two separate trips to Wilmington when they said they would have it in, only to mysteriously say it wasn't there when I arrived. I even offered to have them just ship it to Raleigh, which is about a 3 hours drive away so I could have it installed locally. No dice there either. At first, I had a real good feeling that they would take care of it. The owner had talked to me and seemed like a stand up guy and said they would make sure I got it taken care of. Unfortunately, over time, he stopped responding to my emails and I knew it wasn't going to end well. So to say I had a bad experience with Ultimate Sounds is an understatement. I hope this review helps you choose somewhere...anywhere else to get your car audio done. I think of myself as reasonable but this situation was beyond belief. Save yourself the headache and the cost and avoid Ultimate Sounds. read more

They actually were awesome to me and got my system hooked up beautifully in my Mini Cooper! This is not an easy car! They did wonderfully, I might buy some rims through them. The other reviewers must be trippin because they were professional and very helpful. read more

Folks - stay away from this place!!! I had them install my own subs and coax in the front doors of my car. Well, they didn't install correctly (left out the neoprene gaskets) and tried to fix by tightening the speaker grill... didn't work of course. Took it back yet again and "Marcos" told the guy working to charge me $35 because it was 1 week over the "month labor warranty"!!! Um, SORRY it was their incompetence in the first place and then to try and charge me again to fix what they didn't do right the first time or the second time (tighten the grills). They lost me a customer - ALL beware. Funny I was also going to buy and have them install another set of speakers for my other car... Guess what? I just left and will fix their incompetent work as well as buy and install my own speakers. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! read more

Terrible experience. Dropped off a car at 230 like they requested, saying they were busy, understandable. Dropped the car off at 230, they said it would take about an hour to install two simple speakers, fair enough. We go back at 345 to find they still haven't even started working on the car, and asked us to come back in an hour. Came back when they were closing at 5, only to have them tell us they couldn't install the speakers in a Honda Civic of all cars. Then they wanted to charge us for labor and "hooked us up" with a lower rate. We went back and forth to this place four times in a six hour period. They were extremely unprofessional, would not let us speak with the "boss man" upon our request, and upon returning the car, failed to reconnect a speaker they had to disconnect to begin with. This people will not look after the customer. Very sketchy experience, would NOT recommend. read more

First of all this place is disgusting. Everything about it screams sketchy. We went to get new speakers out into my boyfriends car and they took 2 and a half hours with no other cars to work on there. When my boyfriend left he noticed his window is making a noise when he rolls it down and back up. Went to get it fixed and they tried to act like they are busy and it was already like that. Please. You all are run down with too much time on your hands. If you can't install it right you shouldn't be working there. I would never recommend going here to anyone. I had a tv/dvd / back up cam installed. Had to go back to the store 3 times for them to get it right. They also over charged me for the installation, and they dud not take my cd's out of my radio before they installed my new stereo. They have young kids doing work and not taking it serious. Went to this store to purchase a radio harness for my car. The owner, after doing some online searching, provided me with a harness that was open. He stated that the item was new, but upon inspection, it wasn't new because the wires had already been open and cut. Still I purchased it. Once we were ready to install the ready, which was 2 hours later, we realized that this was the wrong harness because of wiring coding and placement. I went to return the item, and they say no refunds. I stated that this was the company's fault be selling me the wrong item and he didn't have a replacement to give. Instead they offered store credit. Very bad business tactics. read more
