As I'm getting older I realize I need to do more to take care of myself. Going to the gym wasn't doing it because I had nobody to go with. No incentive. I remembered my son going to UTC as a child. The people were always friendly and patient. I decided to sign up. It's always been a dream of mine to study some sort of marital art. Not for self defense but for the discipline and fun. Master Kwak has delivered on all levels. Even though I'm a beginner he takes the time to work with me and encourage me. I'm so glad I'm doing this. Simply put, an excellent school where kids are treated with great instruction. UTC offers a great balance of playful stimulation and discipline needed to progress. My son has been attending classes for a little over 2 months and has loved it since the first day. He has grown tremendously in confidence, respect, endurance and agility. I have seen incredible progress made by kids younger than him as well. Master Arthur, Master Kwak, Master Ryan and all instructors are very professional, friendly, kind, encouraging, and most of all passionate. I am proud to support this small family owned business that has been around for many years. I enrolled my kids here several months ago and it is clear why many families have stayed with them for so long. My kids not only learn good taekwondo skills and get good exercise, but more importantly, Master Arthur makes it a point to teach them life lessons (including but definitely not limited to resilience, respect, kindness and taking pride in one's efforts). Master Arthur, Master Ryan and all the junior instructors keep sessions fun so it never feels like work or a drag. And they know each and every kid's name (how?!) to make it clear they are seen and part of the family. Being an instructor is clearly Master Arthur's calling and I look forward to having my kids work with him for years. I hope my kids stay involved and interested long enough to eventually be one of their junior instructors in years to come. Master Kwak (Arthur's father) has also been great at getting me to exercise. This place is amazing my kids absolutely love coming here! We love the unlimited classes not only tire my kids out but also work their muscles. Their classes focus on balance, strength and following directions. I have a child woth special needs and its helping him tremendously. I have known Master Kwak for 10 years. He has taught my son Ryan humility, compassion, loyalty, discipline, respect for family and others. He also taught him the art of self defense and when to use it. Not to bully others but to defend oneself and protect the weak. Now Master Ryan imparts those same lessons to the young children who attend classes there. After 3 years of studying Politcal Science at Stonybrook College and getting good grades, I am proud to say that he decided that his love for teaching Taekwondo was greater than his love of politics. He is a great teacher and his and his students love and respect him. As I have heard Master Kwak say on many occassions ' Aah Ryan, everybody loves Ryan but I don't know why." I've known Grand Master Kwak for almost fifteen years now. Though it's been several years since I've last visited his school, I wanted to leave a review for his institution out of gratitude for all the years of great service and friendship. Grand Master Kwak is more qualified to teach than the vast majority of the Taekwondo Masters in the area. His international credentials are some of the best in the entire region. Not only that, he's so great and experienced with kids that I've never heard of any obstacle--emotional, physical, or even psychological--that he wasn't able to help a child overcome.
