Uma Marisqueira II is a welcoming seafood spot near Praça do Comércio that has some real highlights but also a few areas that could use some attention.
The bread arrived in a sealed plastic packet, which feels out of place given how many excellent bakeries are nearby that could easily supply something fresher. The white wine was a great choice though, nice and dry and a natural match for the seafood.
The fish cake was a standout, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. A dipping sauce would have elevated it further, something like a simple aioli would go a long way. The salmon, while a visually impressive cut, came out dry which was a little disappointing. The seafood rice came in a generous pot with a solid variety including shrimp, crab and mussels, but the rice flavor was on the bland side and could use more seasoning.
The meal ended on a high note with the staff pouring complimentary shots of ginja, a lovely touch that left a warm impression. The team were welcoming throughout and genuinely took care of us, which counts for a lot. A bit more refinement in the kitchen and this place could really shine. read more
