The reviews of this local establishment is spot on. Only Euros accepted and they speak Portuguese, as they should be. Why would they need to speak multiple languages? Their warm invitation to us was above and beyond. We primarily saw local diners who enjoyed the fresh and flavorful menu options. First visit we had the Iberian black pork ribs which came with fries & a salad and the steak. The amount of the tasty food was alot for our lunch. We decided to return for dinner on our last night at Lisbon. Wanted the seafood and delicious Iberian black pork ribs again! This is not your average touristy place. You're going to need to bust out your Google Translate and speak a little Portuguese. It's not fancy but it is cash only and it is mighty tasty. A few bumps with my lack of Portuguese and their lack of English, despite the English menu. I was finally able to successfully order a beer and point to my neighbor's amazing plate of bacalhau with vegetables. It was about 30 minutes from then until my dinner arrived. Perhaps because I was a table for one where a big party of ten in the center who arrived after me had several platters come and go? None-the-less, I enjoyed my beer and then dinner. The fish was absolutely delicious though it took some serious work to pick out the many many bones. I guess that's just how they do it over here. Love this lil' spot - it seems to be a locals favourite and I think they were surprised to see my group here (four tourist asian girls). But we saw they had great reviews so we decided to give it a try. The guys running this shop are super friendly and tried their hardest to understand us with the language barrier (we only speak English, they only speak Portuguese). This was a nice local restaurant near my hotel I tried one night. It was packed with locals from the neighborhood and no one spoke English but they were very kind and helped me through their selections and were very attentive. I had a snapper dish which was very good and the portion was so large I could barely eat it. Had chocolate mousse for desert which was very good. We came here for dinner wanting to try standard Portuguese fare. Hubby was tired of seafood so he was quite happy with his steak and egg with fries. The tomato rice that came with the steak was tasty, particularly after it soaked up juices from the steak, but the rice was also cold and hard, so points off for that. I ordered the grilled sea bass thinking it would be a whole fish but instead got fish steak. There were actually two sea bass options on the menu and I guess I should have clarified before ordering. The fish was bland, though the waiters do bring olive oil and vinegar and tell you it's for the fish. Sides included flavorful potatoes and a simple salad. I think this place is cash only based on other reviews. We saw other diners pay with cash so we did the same. The buzz on this restaurant seems to be based off its affordability, good fish, and local feel, none of which I experienced here (everyone in the restaurant was a tourist). Travelled to the restaurant with my family due to wanting to experience a authentic Portuguese meal. However, as soon as i entered the establishment I was met with negative stares by the staff members that did not want to engage with eye contact. We than had to ask to be seated and was met with hostile hand gestures to leave despite being loads of tables available. It was tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. It came with salad, rice, and fries. Even the rustic bread was fantastic. Crusty on the outside , soft and moist inside. It came with mixed olives, butter, sardine pate, and soft cheese. For desert we had rice pudding and flan. Also deliciously prepared. The flan may have been the best I have ever tasted.
