    Tempura lunch special.
    Mei Lan M.

This restaurant is solid. This is my third time visiting and I've enjoyed it each time. Came here for lunch during a weekday. We didn't have to wait long to be seated. Service was still very courteous and attentive. The lunch specials are great value. I ordered the salmon teriyaki bento box, tempura lunch, beef teriyaki and salmon poke bowl. All dishes come with miso soup. All were priced from $12-17. Not sure how long this will be on for. And you have to pay cash or debit card to order off this lunch special menu. The only thing is it took a little longer than expected for our food to come out. Not sure why. And my daughter had to wait extra for her beef ramen. Overall though we enjoyed our meals and I still think this restaurant offers yummy food at good prices.

Previously I'd had some of their party trays as take out, but this was my first time dining in. At the entrance there's a small shop selling some Japanese foods as well as sushi grade fish. Once you walk past it you enter the restaurant. It's nothing fancy but the fish was fresh and the prices were reasonable. There was also a promotion going on at the time to get some free items at certain spend levels. Overall it was very good value for our large group! The service was friendly and attentive. It was a great place to have a casual dinner.

Came here for lunch with a church group and they were super accomodating for 22 people. I had the maki set A and my friends ordered the bento and other dishes. The garden salad included with the combos had a really good dressing. I was satisfied with the portion size for the maki set, but the bento portion looked a bit small compared to other sushi places. Its a bit out of the way for me, but it wasn't a bad one time experience.

Umami House is a hidden gem for sushi, donburi, sashimi, Asian fusion spaghetti and other Japanese staples. There is a convenience mart and fish market attached to the restaurant selling Japanese goods. Some menu items were unique such as different baked noodles with cheese on ramen or spaghetti, lobster uni spaghetti, crab claws, chirashi donburi, donburi and rice bowls, such as unagi with cheese on rice and poke bowls. The bento boxes were decent. We ordered the tofu teriyaki bento and the salmon teriyaki bento. Both came with spring rolls, few pieces of California roll, salad and miso soup. For drinks the mango passionfruit* fruit tea & lychee peachy fruit tea were quite good. Staff are super friendly, very hard-working. The food selection is great and they have such a good varied menu with many influences.

Umami House has a casual and clean ambiance, and many food options to choose from! I went with the Beef Yaki Udon, and the flavour was perfectly mellow and flavourful! The portion size is plentiful, enough for a second meal. I look forward to going back and trying other dishes soon!

Saw this Japanese Restaurant and it's was 8pm Sunday. It was not very busy and entrance has a small grocery section before going into the restaurant. There is huge menu. Price is reasonable. The server is very polite. We got a sushi boat. It was a surprise when it serve. There were ice smoke in the glass serving plate instead of sushi boat. It looks pretty. 50 pieces of sashimi and sushi for $53. Taste is a bit bland, I think it is not fresh enough. I ordered grill ox tongue also and this taste good.

We have been regularly coming to and ordering from Umami House because the quality of their dishes to the price cannot be beat! This party tray was $40 and bentos for dinner are around $15-18, cannot find that price anywhere for the flavours and quality that you get! Though it does get busy in certain hours and seating gets full, the turn around is quite fast and definitely worth the wait! Our favourites are PTC and the tempura!

A friend and I went out for our annual October Scary movie date and I suggested this place to go eat prior to the movie as it was close by Fairview Mall. When you first walk in, they was a tiny store selling Japanese snacks and products. Almost like a mini J-Town, very cute. Amature move, but I didn't make a reservation so we had to wait 20min to sit, which made us sweat a bit because we were catching a show. We arrived before 6, so I was surprised they were that busy.. so it would be a good idea to make a reservation! When finially sat down I ordered the appitizer 5pc Sushi and the Mixed Tempura Bento Box. The 5pc sushi was decent, qualtiy was good. They were the usual assotment of salmon, tuna, crab, white fish, shrimp. Next came the bento box. Came with 2 shrimp and mixed veggie tempura. also 6 california rolls and 2 spring rolls. I thought this box ok a little heavy with the grease and there was a big portion of rice. Id probably choose another box if I go back. My friend ordered the chicken teriyaki box and she said she really liked the teriyaki sauce on the chicken. There is a medium amount of seating in the restaurant and parking in the plaza is limited. Servers were attentive and friendly. Prices however are reasonable i found and they offer a 10% cash discount. I would try this place again, there are alot of items on the menu to pick from.

Umami House has a ton of different options from sushi and burgers to ramen and fusion pasta. The food is usually pretty decent, where some things are better than others. The last time I ordered a salmon poke bowl and salmon+avocado roll. Overall it didn't taste super fresh and I didn't love all the mayo. I find that when they leave the skin on the salmon, it leaves a stronger fish smell and lowers the quality. The rolls are also pretty big. Some of my preferred choices to order from here: * Tiger Shrimp & Scallop Spaghetti * Sake & Ikura Don

A hidden gem on the cusp of Scarborough and North York. I visited with a few friends on a Friday night and it was pretty busy - we waited about an hour, but we were a pretty big group of 8. I got the Dynamite Maki set and asked them to torch the assorted sushi ($3 surcharge) and it's the perfect amount of food. They have many dishes, from maki sets to donburi bowls to bento boxes so there's something for everyone. The little market of Asian snacks at the front of the restaurant is also really cute! I'll be back :)

The party trays at this Japanese restaurant are of decent quality, but if you're looking to specifically discuss what's worth trying, it may not be easy to pinpoint. Overall, it's not bad, but it's not exceptional either. If you happen to pass by, you can give it a try, but it's best not to have overly high expectations. 呢間日本餐廳嘅party tray水準係唔錯,但如果你要特別去講有咩值得食嘅話,就未必真係講得出。整體嚟講,水平唔錯,不過不失。如果經過嘅話,不妨試吓,但係唔好抱太大期望。

This place has been open for a while. First time came here was 6 years ago. Recently visited again, same layout. Like their sushi rolls, thin rice layer with lots of fillings. Takoyaki balls were yum too. Nice service, the waitress was cute. Food (quality, presentation) - 4/5 Drinks (quality, variety) - NA Ambience (interior, cleanness) - 3/5 Service - 5/5 Value - 5/5

I'm shocked at the low average reviews. However, I think all the lower reviews are mainly from over two years ago, and my recent visit around Mother's Day was very good. The front of the house is a small fish market, so you can buy the supplies needed for a sushi night in. When we dined in, the sushi tray was beautifully displayed with dry ice smoke pouring out of the plate. The fish was fresh. We also got another specialty roll set where we could choose up to six rolls from their specialty rolls menu. The rolls were massive and tasty and had a great ingredients-to-rice ratio. It wasn't too busy when we went there on a weekend, and it was quite spacious, brightly lit, and clean. I'm giving it five stars because it surely deserves at least four stars based on my recent experience, so I'm hoping this will bring the average up to reflect what the experience is like now. Don't let the overall reviews on this place deter you from a great sushi meal. They also have an extensive menu of donburi, bento boxes, noodles and more if sushi and sashimi isn't your cup of tea.

There's no reservation system but they do have a waitlist on Yelp which gets you in line (highly recommended). First to know is you can't pay with credit card here--there's an ATM in the front of the restaurant. As far as the restaurant goes, it was fantastic from start to finish. Our table of 4 was seated and serviced by 1 main staff member, Lydia, who talked us through the whole menu and ordering system, recommended some great starts and then kept us frequently updated all throughout dinner. She checked up on us along with her assistants who were also bringing items and servicing the table. The food quality was excellent with juicy and flavorful cuts of beef along with the shrimp, pork, veggies, side dishes/ponchon, and rice--it kept coming consistently. Grill changes were frequent as well. The atmosphere is lively and there are a lot of servers so you aren't trying get someone's attention all the time. But it doesn't feel too cramped at the same time. As it is AYCE, everyone in our group left full of course and enjoyed each course. I liked the almond tofu at the end! ----TL;DR---- Pros: great selection of meats, quality was top notch, huge portions of course as it is AYCE, service was prompt and all staff were really friendly. Cons: no reservations so need to be on a waitlist. The no credit card system is a bit of an inconvenience. Bottom Line: we loved it--definitely would go back again and enjoy more of their selections! You have to try them if you like meat and AYCE!

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

The fishes were plated very pretty and because it's sushi of course it tasted good. But I was surprised at the level of wasabi that was plated. Cleared up my sinuses for 30 seconds. The establishment is very clean and bright and a great place to head to if you're in a rush.

We got a bunch of dishes to share and overall liked most things but some things (like the oyster) unfortunately didn't hit as well. Wagyu - thin slices but very tender and very flavorful with the cheese - surprised by how well the flavor combo worked out. Tofu - easily one of my fave agedashi tofu. Huge tofu slices with very chewy outer texture, a bit gelatinous . Really went well with the sauce and toppings Carbonara - nice chewy texture to the udon, not too soft and not too firm. The sauce was nice and creamy. Not as truffley as I thought it would be, wish it was a little more but it was still pretty good Oyster - least favorite of all the dishes we got today. It was a bit sour and the cheese felt like it didn't really help the flavor profile of the oysters. It was super oily from the cheese, felt like it was drowning in cheese/oil flavor Cod - it looks good but something is lacking, maybe in taste? Feel like maybe the marinade did not penetrate enough. The texture is still nice and soft , with a crisp skin . Also was a bit too oily for our liking, compared to other miso cod we have had. It was also a relatively smaller piece of cod. Overall, the appetizers were really good! The oyster and cod were a bit disappointing. Would come back for the carbonara and the other appetizers mentioned though!

The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done. Some of the fried dishes leaned a bit richer with the creamy sauces, but they were still enjoyable, especially if you're in the mood for something a little more indulgent.
