I don't understand how this place is not 5 stars - the miso baked cod, tempura, seared salmon eddie's maki, nasu dengaku, baked oyster are some of the best I've had. The Eddie's maki roll is a must get! Service is impeccable, and the ambiance is top notch. Highly recommend!!
Came here for a dinner and got bento box c! It came with some sushi, sashimi, grilled cod, tempura, beef enoki, some rolls, soup, a salad, rice, and a mini dessert at the end! I found all their food super tasty but my favourite part was the sashimi! it was delicious and you could really taste the difference. It is a bit pricier but I really enjoyed the food! Everything was super tasty and I enjoyed my experience.
Come here for your sushi fix. It's a little on the pricey side though so be prepared to spend a pretty penny. It's nice and quiet at the restaurant with mainly locals and families that come to dine here. Their menu has a variety of food options from raw to cooked, whatever you're looking for they probably will have. Here's what we got: Spicy salmon hand roll 3.5/5 - Could use some more flavour and spiciness to this. It's okay in my opinion. Negitoro roll 4/5 - Lots of negitoro placed on top of the sushi. It's great for sharing. Torched salmon aburi 3.5/5 - It's pretty standard but again thought it could've used more flavour. Fish soup 3/5 - Thought this was really bland and definitely needed more flavour and salt. I ended up giving my portion to my friends to eat. They loved it though! Chawanmushi 3/5 - Again, thought it was okay. It once again lacked some flavour and could've used some salt and umami. Baked oyster 5/5 - I think this was the highlight of the meal. This was so creamy and delicious. The tobiko on top were delicious and popping in your mouth which was such a nice surprise. Think the restaurant can use some more flavour to their dishes. A lot of the dishes unfortunately seemed really bland but has some room for improvement seeing how the baked oyster was so delicious!

Good spot for Japanese food. Service is fast with good vibes. Seatings are spacious compared to other Japanese restaurants which we really enjoy. Since we are detoxing therefore ordered: 1. Sashimi MORIAWASE (18piece at $48) 4/5 2. Green salad 4/5 3. Seaweed salad 4/5 4. Grilled eggplant 4/5 5. Grill zucchini 4/5 Overall the food quality is good and fresh, the option is VERY small though considering the price. Foods are delicious, just Pricy and small portions make it a 4star
A lovely sushi restaurant that was unexpectedly really good! We were hungry and going towards Markville mall but didn't want to eat inside the mall. We decided to find something on the way. We came in here and were greeted with smiles and immediately seated. They gave us a whole kettle of tea for the two of us at the table and we ordered food after a long time deciding. The rolls were small but filling and worth the price. Overall it was clean in there and they made the food quickly.
We got a Sashimi & Sushi platter, loved the thick cut sashimi!!!! Very fresh and satisfying! Thought it was a bit pricey? The combo is about $90, considering all you can eat sushi is available across the street, but I guess it's different quality. Pleasant dining environment, service was pretty quick, not sure if it's because we went at a later time, because I remember having to wait for a bit longer in the past.
Came here for a simple dinner and ended up ordering the tasting menu. The food was definitely one of the better experiences enjoyed in a long while. The only meh moment was the smoked duck salad where I found an identity crisis... did not flow with the accompanying foods presented. The fish was very fresh and could taste it in every bite. The staff is very efficient without being intrusive. See myself coming back to try their other offerings.
TLDR: Driven past this place several times, and to be honest, I had never really given it a second thought. This visit certainly changed that for the best! I made a reservation for 5PM on a Sunday to ensure that we would have first dibs on parking (have read that parking can be difficult to navigate given the small lot, and the high amounts of traffic going into the plaza). Most of the restaurant was empty when we arrived, but by the time we left around 7/8PM, most of the restaurant was full! Means that this place is not a secret in terms of the great quality of service and food haha. Keep reading if you appreciate breakdowns of what to order! The following is what we ordered, how much it costs, and what I would rate it! -[BAKED GOLDEN OYSTER] $8.50 (6/10) Sounded good on paper but probably for the amount of oyster (one large) and the flavor, I would not order it again. It was certainly interesting to try though - seemed like one oyster baked with a creamy sauce, and then topped with cheese. Could have used a bit more flavor! -[SEARED FOIE GRAS & SCALLOP - 5 pcs] $19.75 (8/10) For those of your who enjoy, foie gras (like me), this dish is a no brainer to try! I also enjoy scallop so I had to get it for sure. Each piece is very refreshing, but the foie gras amount is on the smaller side. -[SCALLOP (HOTATEGAI) NIGIRI - 2 pcs] $10.00 (10/10) Haha, the scallop topping each nigiri was HUGE! We originally only got two orders (4 pcs) to split between three of us, but as soon as we bit into it, we knew we needed a third order to ensure it was fair for everyone. The scallop is SO fresh, and honestly, this might be the best place to get it. -[SPICY SALMON MAKI - 6 pcs] $7.50 (8/10) Unlike the name of the maki, it is not actually spicy! I still always enjoy a good spicy salmon roll though, and that is exactly what this was! Highly recommend. -[SALMON SKIN MAKI - 6 pcs] $7.00 (8/10) Always love a good maki filled with salmon skin. Their salmon skin was super crispy, crunchy, and flavorful - just the way it should be. -[EDDIE'S MAKI - 8 pcs] $20.50 (10/10) The inner roll consists of avocado, and unagi. The outside of the roll is then topped with tobiko, green onions, and torched salmon that melts in your mouth All three of us saved a piece of this to eat last because it was just THAT good. Not sure who Eddie is but good on you for inspiring this roll! -[GRILLED SALMON BELLY - 3 pcs] $12.75 (10/10) Salmon belly is always a good call to order! This one followed that rule to a t. Comes with a light teriyako/soy sauce to drizzle over it. The pieces of salmon belly are quite generous in size, so highly recommend it. -[GRILLED SQUID (ikayaki)] $15.00 (10/10) This is basically a whole squid that is grilled, and cut up! A sweet teriyaki sauce covers it that makes it delicious to say the least. The squid is tender, and chewy! -[CHICKEN SKIN SKEWER - 2 skewers] $6.25 (8/10) The chicken skin is crispy, and well seasoned! That being said, it could be crispier but still a pretty solid skewer. -[GRILLED OX TONGUE - 2 skewers] $10.75 (10/10) I recognize tongue is not a cut of meat for everyone, but holy, when it is done well, it is SO delicious. Luckily for us, this place does it amazingly. We ordered another two skewers after trying it because it was just THAT good. -[GRILLED PORK BELLY SKEWER - 2 skewers] $8.00 (6/10) This was a bit overcooked, but the flavor was definitely all there! Due to the overcooked way it was served, the pork belly did end up being on the drier side. Perhaps they'll do it better on a future visit though. -[NEGI TORO DON] $26.00 (10/10) The portion for the negi toro, and the rice was so worth it! The reminds me of the toro don from Inatei many many years ago. I would 100% order this again because it was excellent quality. -[GRILLED EGGPLANT (yakinasu)] $8.75 (4/10) We actually wanted to order the Grilled Eggplant with Miso Sauce (Nasu Dengaku) but we were informed they didn't have it. So, we pivoted and ordered this instead. It definitely lacked flavor -[OSHI SUSHI SABA - 8 pcs] $20.99 (5/10) Saba is mackerel in Japanese, and personally, this would have been amazing if they choose to omit the shiso leaf in the future. I suppose I just am not a fan of the shiso flavor because as soon as I removed the flavor, I enjoyed it much more. Likely wouldn't order this again as I feel like there is better value in their other dishes. They also include a little shot of their daily dessert at the end of your meal. We were treated to a little shot of matcha pudding topped with red beans - love how strong the matcha flavor was! I will definitely be back, hopefully sooner than later :D
Small Japanese restaurant near Main St. Unionville/Hwy7 This place offers a wide variety of Jap food including grilled skewers, sashimi, sushi, donburis/udons/ramens and bento. Basically anything Japanese related they'll most likely serve. Been here several times before pandemic but decided to try again post pandemic! Food stayed consistent for most part. Only one thing wouldn't recommend- they had Grilled Large Scallop as one of their daily specials for $11.99 but it wasn't THAT large. We found it pretty dry so would say save your money and try another item instead. Overall, good place for Jap food. But since it is small, def call and reserve a table!
Came here on a Friday night just impulsively cause I heard many of my friends say this place is good for sushi. The restaurant is super busy.. parking was limited as well so it took a long time to find a spot. However, service is super good here and prompt. The host sat us down quickly. We ordered the bento A box and grilled squid and spider roll. All of these were good and tasty and sushi was fresh as most people here on Yelp mentioned! The steak was cooked to medium rare as I liked it. I do have to say the squid was pretty good and I didn't expect it to be this big of a portion as most places give you a few pieces only, this is a huge plus! I do have to say that this restaurant is on the pricier side. The bento box alone was $35 without taxes yet... so it's pretty steep. I probably won't be visiting often due to the high prices here as there are many decent sushi places around that are just as good quality and lower prices.

This is a very popular and good Japanese restaurant. We came on 2026-07-04 for dinner. We ordered the following: 1. Sashimi Moriawase 18 pcs ($58). 2. Tamago Maki 6 pcs ($6.25). 3. Eddie's Maki 8 pcs ($23). 4. Sake Don ($27). 5. Chicken Teriyaki Set ($23.75). 6. Kinmedai Sashimi 3 pcs ($22). Each main dish comes with a dessert. We chose vanilla ice cream, black sesame ice cream, and yuzu pudding x 2. The service was excellent. Sashimi Moriawase had 18 pieces of Sashimi. It was beautifully plated with vibrant colours. The pieces were very fresh and some were thickly sliced. Delicious. The Tamago Maki had 6 pieces and were entirely eaten by my son. It's like he hasn't heard of sharing! The Eddie's Maki consists of Seared Salmon, Unagi, and Avocado. The Sake Don is Salmon Sashimi on Sushi Rice. My son ate this entire dish. The Chicken Teriyaki Set comes with miso soup, green salad, and steamed rice. The chicken was quite tender. The Kinmedai Sashimi was on the daily specials menu. It was presented well. The Kinmedai is a highly prized deep-sea fish and had a mild unami-packed flavour. There is a sushi bar where you can see yhe sushi chefs work, but there is no counter seating. The diners were very loud. If you pay by cash, you get 5% off. If you have a VIP membership card, you get 10% discount when paying cash; I got that card. The colour scheme is black and gold, with Japanese waves as their theme. There were a few private dining areas, separated by curtains. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. Got their Chirashi bowl, and a side of torched salmon belly nigiri. The nigiri was worth the try, but not sure it was wow enough for me to get again. The chirashi has some of my fave items, but then some not so exciting ones. Fave: salmon belly, herring roe sashimi, ika (squid), tamago, shiso leaf, hotate, and tuna. Unfortunately the hotate only looked like half the piece. Not exciting: imitation crab and cooked shrimp. Their octopus was a bit chewy. It also does come with some pickled yellow radish and pickled mushrooms which is nice. Altogether it was around $40 before tip... might try their sashimi platter next time. Parking lot is tiny, but there is street parking 9-5/6. Service is great. read more
Love the generously-portiomed sashimi slices! We ordered a 40 piece take out platter and we were very happy with the taste and freshness of the fish. Their vegetable tempura was also worth mentioning. It's a true mix of 8 d9fferent vegetables including okra, eggplant. We just love this neighborhood gem! read more

The atmosphere and service were both pleasant, variety options from the menu. The pricing was higher than expected. The Spider Maki Roll for 5 pieces at $17 didn't meet expectations unfortunately, while the 18-piece Sashimi was beautifully presented with generous cuts. read more
Went again! We ordered specific amounts of hamachi and salmon. They gave us nice thick cuts and to be honest, I was full from eating sashimi. It was very fresh and twice the size of your typical sashimi at other restaurants. Loved it! Their grilled ox tongue was also very good. It was a little chewy on the outside and super tender on the inside. The flavor was perfect and it really made me smile as I was eating it, skewer by skewer...okay I only had 2 skewers because we shared. haa. read more
Been passing by Hibiki for many years and finally got to try this place out! We got the following: UNI SAKE IKURA DON (pictured) HIBIKI DON KATSU DON The deep fried pork loin from the katsu don was a tad dry side but everything else tasted fresh and delicious! Portions could be more generous. All 3 dons came with green salads, miso soups & desserts. The lychee pudding was very refreshing - such a nice way to end our meals! read more
My favourite sushi place of all time. Who needs AYCE when you have hibiki?! I've been going here consistently for about 4 years now and I've never been disappointed. I love the whole vibe of the restaurant from the decor to the mismatched but adorable dishes and cups. I highly recommend going for lunch instead of dinner because their lunch specials make it much more worth it to eat here. Some of my all time favourite specials are the udon special (comes with 6 pieces of maki, salad, soup and dessert) and the bento box with grilled salmon & beef enoki mushroom rolls. They are totally worth your money and delicious! A recent special I tried has been the 4 pieces of sashimi & salmon chazuke. The chazuke is a rice porridge dish with grilled salmon and salmon roe! It is under the light lunches and makes for a very comforting lunch. I also want to point out how amazing their dessert puddings and coffee are! I wish the pudding cups were 2x larger because they are just so tiny. But they top off the meal so well! Hibiki is definitely the best sushi restaurant in Markham! The food here continues to be really good. Came here last night for dinner and by 7pm it was completely packed. I suggest that you make reservations especially if you are coming on a Saturday night. The food was definitely 5 stars. However, I docked off 1 star because I feel that the service is lacking and portions are a bit small given the higher prices. Also, I wasn't too impress last night when they brought us 6 salads for 7 people. I asked the server if they had forgotten 1 salad and they said that only 3 of our meals came with salads and he actually gave us 3 additional salads as complimentary. Okay, it was a nice gesture but they couldn't throw in 1 more salad. Wow, that's really poor service. We order lots of food and the bill came to $200 so I was very surprised that they were being so petty to give us that one extra salad. I would have given them a perfect score. On to the food, the sushi was exceptional as usual. There was a nice variety of sushi in the Sushi Funamori set but it was a little pricey for $64.99 but remember it's quality that you are paying for. As usual, the Negi Toro (blue fin tuna) Don was delicious, it's always my favourite dish here. We do really enjoy the food here so we will continue to keep coming back. read more

Revisited Hibiki again after a couple years and the food was still fresh and delicious. Uni sake ikura don: salmon was generous and fresh, uni was buttery, and roe is always good for tying them together! There's even a shiso leaf if you want to add a pop of shiso flavour with the dish. Their lunch menu also came with salad, miso soup, and dessert. Takowasabi: pretty big octopus pieces for an app, larger pieces than other places I've been to. I love love love wasabi so I didn't mind how strong it was, however, for mild wasabi takers, this is quite "spicy" I drink lots of tea so I appreciated them leaving a teapot for us at the table read more

I am going to steal Wendy L.'s great Yelp taglines (so cool...hope I'm not violating yelp trademarks) - just this once...only! WHAT TO TRY! Uhm...nothing...I didn't have much choice nor did I want to choose. I'm in cruise mode. I let JK choose as she is intimately familiar with the staff and their menu. Hibiki is "conveniently" located, next to Platform Espresso Bar, and since we were just their for a morning java jolt! That still means parking is a mad-zone. Once you can park your urban form of transportation, you can relax in the tranquil and oddly quiet restaurant. Isn't it funny when you go to a Sushi joint, you all of a sudden find your moment of ZEN!?!? Hey! Someone break out the Taiko Drums - it's just too serene! Lots of wooden funishing provide warmth to the restaurant with comfortable booths and tables. Chefs expertly craft delicious sushi and sashimi, from behind their large bar, to appreciative customers. I wonder if they are doing Omakase?!? I want! The lunch was a combo sushi with sake maki. Some tempura, Udon, and a tuna hand roll as well. A good meal was had and off we went to have another meal at a Korean run Japanese Katsu place! Why not, we just had a Chinese run Japanese Sushi meal! Lord I luv Canada and the confusion of Asian cuisine! If your reading my reviews, you know where this is going next! LAST TIP?! Get their coffee. I've previously picked up sushi platters here but this is my first time dining in. Ordered the "Uni Sake Ikura Don (Sea urchin, salmon, Salmon roe on rice)". I expected the portion of uni to be bigger, as it was mainly salmon 50% and 10% uni and 30% ginger, wasabi, cucumber and 10% fish roe. The bowl was decent but not amazing. I was not happy with this place. First of all, the host made us wait 15-20 minutes for a table that had been available since the time we arrived. Although the decorations and vibe of the restaurant was nice, the service was subpar. I tried to order the sushi appetizer, that came with 3 pieces of sushi and 4 maki. However I only like to eat raw salmon, so I requested that all of it be changed to salmon instead. The server completely denied to accommodate this request, even if I wanted to pay more. Usually most sushi restaurants will just charge you an extra fee, but not this place. Her attitude towards me was just very dry and rude especially when I asked for this accommodation. As I just opted for Sake Donburi (17.99). It was so expensive and the sashimi wasn't even that great. All in all, this place has high end price without the high end quality and service. The food was fresh and good quality. The environment was comfortable. So these are definite good points. Obviously you come for food! The value is so-so since the prices are a bit high for what you get (we only ordered sashimi/sushi). Service was questionable. They were not overly busy since we came after the dinner rush. After getting seated quickly, we had to wave to order and get tea. The food came quickly enough but they kind of plopped it in the corner or where ever convenient. We finished eating the last dish and with empty plates and no tea, all the servers were too busy to clear tables (no one waiting for tables outside) as opposed to serving us. This went on for over 15 minutes til my patience gave out and we got the bill instead of ordering more food! I actually had four stars til the end and reduced it to 3 on the basis of being ignored for so long- That was quite a disappointing end to a decent meal. I may come back in the future to give it another shot and hopefully things are better for the entire duration of the meal. read more

Enjoyed a great lunch meal in January at this quiet sushi place. Sashimi were fresh and delicious. Would recommend those who haven't tried yet. Lunch set also comes with a complimentary dessert. read more
I ordered the Negi Uni Toro Don. It came with a house salad and miso soup. I had high expectations going in because their sushi trays are always quite good with high quality ingredients all across the board. But for this time in particular, I had a poor experience. The house salad was very disappointing with barely any dressing and bitter greens. After this bad experience I decided to wash it down with miso soup, but it lacked a lot of flavor. Nothing close to what I expected. The Negi Uni Toro Don was also just mediocre. The uni did not have that briny, deep rich ocean flavor you expect. The Toro was chopped up and while it was seasoned well, I didn't get the fatty flavor that I was hoping for. The saving grace for this dish was the rice. It was perfectly cooked, seasoned well with a hint of vinegar and pleasantly chewy. I wouldn't really order this again, but I will continue to order their trays because they are quite good. read more

Ordered takeout on a causal Wednesday with some expectations of good food ( I had dined in for their lobster sashimi before, and it was AWESOME), and gotten something beyond my expectations..it was so good! Very surprised at the selection of fish, especially the Umi sushi (what?) The sashimi was super thick cut, fatty and super fresh. It's basically double the size of what you normally get. Spider roll was really good. I'm a big fan of softshell crab and this one has really thin batter and not oily. This shop has officially become my favourite Jap take out shop. read more

I never write updates unless there's a change in rating and I rarely write them in the first place (3 including this one). But Hibiki is shattering my status quo because it's shattering my expectations! Time and time again, I am blown away by the type and quality of food offered at such reasonable prices!! Came here with my SO and the Lobster Sashimi Set caught my eye. $98.99 for an extravagant 6-course lobster dinner for 2 seemed pretty reasonable to me. And it turned out to be more reasonable than expected, practically a steal! 1) Starter - Blue Fin O-Toro Carpaccio with Seaweed Salad. The flavour of the fatty tuna with a tiny bit of salty scallion was mindblowing. FYI the Tuna Lovers Sushi Set with 2 lean tuna, 2 Chu-Toro, and 2 O-Toro sushi pieces is $24.99. Here you get 6 pieces (3/person) of thick decadent O-Toro sashimi as part of a set that costs $50/person. You do the math. 2) Sashimi - This was actually two courses. One whole live lobster sashimi (shared) where the lobster was still moving. Doesn't get fresher than that and the meat had the most amazing texture and sweet lobster taste. Then came a plate of striped jack, sea bream, salmon, yellowtail, and sweet shrimp sashimi; thick-cut and tasting like it just jumped out of the sea. 3) Sushi - Seared salmon belly, fatty tuna with sea urchin, salmon roe with quail egg. Somehow, Hibiki created a sushi platter of literally all of my favourite things without even knowing me. The salmon belly sushi even had a slight sear on the rice. This was where I died. 4) Soup - Seafood broth in a beautiful earthen teapot. You pour out the broth into a tiny cup and sip it like you're drinking sake. It was so light, so simple, and took on the flavours of the tiny clam, shrimp, and fish meat inside. You can then eat the broth ingredients. 5) Appetizers - Grilled scallop, lobster roe steamed egg, butter baked clams. The flavour of the char on that giant scallop was unbelievable and the smell of the buttery and garlicky clams made my SO want to bottle it into a cologne. The highlight for me was the steamed egg though. Smooth with generous amounts of lobster roe (which is another one of my favourite things), topped with mushroom and citrus peel. How am I supposed to watch my cholesterol with something like that, Hibiki?? 6) Main Course - Matcha Soba with lobster claw. This was alright to me. The broth was a bit too salty and the soba, though green, wasn't noticeably different from regular soba. There was a good sized lobster claw and other seafood in it though. 7) Dessert - The only other item that was shared. I think it was some sort of tofu pudding cake with almonds. It was creamy, not too sweet, and the perfect light finish to a pretty perfect meal. This isn't your stuff-your-face-until-you-die AYCE but there's no denying that every pretty penny is WORTH. IT. And honestly, for this kinda quality, I don't think you have to sacrifice as many pretty pennies as you think you do. Of all the sushi places in Markham, seldom owned by Japanese people, Hibiki is at the top of the list, the cream of the crop, the top tuna. The sushi here is impeccably fresh. I love getting sashimi from here because the cuts of fish are sooo big. The entire platter was $65 for 42 pieces but it was worth. My favourite fish is the herring roe which is the yellow fish. It has a nice crisp texture which is super refreshing with a hint of sea salt. I love this sashimi platter for its variety from scallops, mackerel, octopus, squid, and shrimp! I was a little disappointed because the shrimp was a little small in comparison to previous visits, but I will still always go back. read more

Not sure if he was super busy during the lunch rush because we didn't interact with him much but he was a nice person. [DÉCOR] - 5/5 Classy and modern with Japanese-inspired decor. [QUALITY] - 4/5 Salmon was fresh and duck breast was high-quality and prepared very well. [ORDER] - 4/5 - Salmon Teriyaki Set Course - $12.99 (served with green salad, miso soup, and dessert): salad was refreshing and came with a tangy dressing (very different and better than ones at AYCE sushi restaurants). Salmon was pan fried beautifully, was paired with rice and lots of delicious stir-fried veggies. Black sesame pudding and tasted smooth and nutty. - Smoked Duck Breast Soba - $12.99 + Salmon Maki - $2.50 (served with green salad & dessert): smoked duck breast was smokey and tender. The broth absorbed smokiness from the meat, yet tasted clean and non-greasy. Soba noodles tasted a little too well-done. Salmon sashimi in the maki was fresh & the rice was cooked perfectly. I would say this place is pretty close to 5 stars. First off, the food was amazing. We ordered the lobster set for 2 , which was $158 and included a whole lobster served as sashimi and used for a broth with vermicelli. We decided to replace the vermicelli with udon noodles and recommend for others to try that as well! The sushi was delicious as it looks and the o-toro and Wagyu beef foie gras rolls which literally melt in your mouth. We were impressed all throughout the meal. All in all, we were quite impressed throughout the meal. Other than the last meal which was a lobster broth udon which was a bit underwhelming as it just included some lobster parts, udon and some mushroom cabbage. The owner was also very generous and considerate ensuring that we were able to drive prior to leaving as we each had a drink. His hospitality was greatly appreciated. This has quickly become one of our new favourite spots for sushi! read more
