My boyfriend, sister, and I stopped by Ume Tea and unfortunately had a pretty frustrating experience from the moment we arrived. We got there about 5 minutes before opening. The door was already open, and we watched another gentleman walk in and order four drinks, so naturally we assumed they were serving customers. However, when we entered, an employee told us to go back outside and wait until they officially opened. No problem. We waited and came back in at 12:02 PM. Once we were ready to order, we asked for a drink with regular tapioca boba. The employee told us it wasn't ready yet and suggested crystal boba instead. We explained that we were willing to wait for the regular tapioca, but we kept getting the impression they really didn't want us to order it because they repeatedly emphasized that it would take a while. Crystal boba is not the same thing as traditional tapioca boba. At that point, the employee was also having issues with the POS system and seemed very stressed trying to make the previous customer's drinks while simultaneously texting their manager for help. We were asked to wait off to the side. About 10 minutes later, who I assume was the manager arrived and helped get everything sorted out. After asking about the available toppings and trying samples of the crystal boba, we finally placed our order. Unfortunately, two of our three drinks came out wrong. One drink was supposed to be a plain Jasmine Floral Milk Tea with lychee jelly and light ice. Instead, it came with no jelly at all and regular ice. Another drink was supposed to be a Strawberry Jelly Watermelon Slush with crystal boba, but it arrived with lychee jelly instead. By that point, after waiting through the opening confusion, POS issues, topping availability issues, and ordering delays, we honestly didn't feel like spending even more time having drinks remade. For nearly $25 for three drinks, I expected a much smoother experience. I understand that opening can be hectic, but it felt like the shop wasn't fully prepared to serve customers when the doors opened. The drinks themselves were fine, but getting two out of three orders wrong after such a long wait was disappointing. The Ume Tea shop is very pink and cute. The mural inside is also very cute, I wish they offered stickers that represented different sections of the mural, I would buy them all. I love boba drinks, especially a refreshing black tea almond milk boba. Ume doesn't serve that, but their boba milk tea is really good. The boba was fresh, soft and melty, not too chewy. I ordered this at 70% sweet and it was perfect. I also tried their yumberry slushy. I was told the slushy is very sweet and opted for 50% sweetness, but I could have lowered it even more, to 30% and it still would have been very fruity. My slushy had a good amount of jelly in it, but somehow the pieces melded together becoming chunky. I had never heard of waxberry before and was curious to try it. The flavor is very berry like/jam, maybe a combination of raspberry and red grape? It really reminded me of a berry popsicle in drink for and I wasn't disappointed. read more

Wow, this place is pink! So much so as we sitting enjoying our drinks my friend asked if I switched my makeup because I looked very pink. Lol! Counter person was friendly and helpful and despite the fact she was alone, drinks came out quickly. The drinks were pretty good. I had the Oreo Creme Brûlée Boba Oolong Milk Tea: described as "A delightful creamy crème brûlée with crunchy cookie bits and boba pearls in freshly brewed oolong milk tea." I chose 25% sweetness. While the drink was good, it didn't seem blended well enough. The first sips were tea and Oreo crumbles by the time I drank most of the tea, what I can assume is the crème brûlée, since it was a pudding like consistency was all at the bottom. Maybe it's supposed to be that way, idk but the crème brûlée tea I get at another tea house I go never seems to have the custard at the bottom like that. Ume is a super cute and the kids enjoyed the drinks with the cup that has a toy at the bottom this cup is more expensive ($9); the boba was decent and the drinks were customizable. There are a a few tables to sit in, but people quickly rotate in and out. There a few places to take photos, one large stuffed pink bunny with its own large drink and then a pink plush bunny on back wall. The large mural of Tucson is a nice touch. Had the popcorn chicken today. Flavor was good but the chicken was RAW! I thought hmm maybe it's a thigh piece so it's more moist. Nope. Raw. Almost half the batch was this way. Scary to think there are no temping practices let alone cross contamination prevention measures especially when dealing with poultry in close proximity to tea and dessert items.
