I am an almost-daily client of Umi Falafel, Mary Street. I love the food very much, and I bring my family a few times a week (the other days just my wife and I go), and invited several friends who have become regular customers too, etc. However, there is something that I have been disliking about the employees, even before the pandemic started, which is the lack of hygiene, which I can't stand. There is no point in using gloves to put the food in the pitta breads, when the same gloves are used to touch the buttons of the Card Machines (which many clients touch to type their card PIN), touch coins and notes received by the clients, and take the plates/trays from the tables, or touch their own phones. At no point I see the employees changing the gloves or at least wash them. Unfortunately, as I find this lack of hygiene disgusting and DANGEROUS during the pandemic, I regret to say that I will no longer go to Umi Falafel, until you let me know that this behavior is changed and that the employees have received training for public health and hygiene. I will also inform the people I brought there of the situation. Ah, and by the way, none of your employees seem to know how to use a Mask. The mask isn't supposed to cover the chin. Its a nice ambiente, the people who work there are very friendly and the food taste delicious! When I ordered it just took a few minutes until I had my food - which was awesome because it was so fast! And also the special price for a Falafel sandwhich + any drink for 7,50€ before 17:00 o'clock is really cheap. This is the best place for falafels in Dublin. They are perfectly made, crispy on the outside and tender and soft on the inside. The wrap options are fantastic too, and the humus is great. Torn between 3 and four stars so it's more a 3.5.. I love falafels so much I crave them ever since I've had my Lebanese friends ones in the food markets. I crave them so much and it's been my lunch every Sunday along with the vine leaves (drool) for the past year !!! So when I seen Umi Falafel and the good reviews I couldn't wait to try it out. I arrived just as it opened so the place was empty. The staff looked a bit grumpy to say the least. Went and picked my seat, which I wasn't too fond of it was sort of a fast food type seating area and the room was very dark.. Wasn't great for my little one but ah well we got on with it. The menu was great and had a lot of choices. I loved the €7.50 lunch deal that came with falafels, your choice of salad, pitta bread, hummus and other sauces I didn't really know but where bland. You also got a drink but it could only be a soft drink or water, not the juices or teas on the menu. I also ordered some potatoe wedges for my daughter. The food arrived and the presentation was great looked amazing. The falafels where good and nice and green inside, very tasty. The salad was nice, it was the Fatoush salad (a Lebanese favourite) and it had tomatoe, cucumber, lettuce, parsley and it was topped with some sort of filo pastry that was crispy and sweet.. Abit too much lemon for me was very acidic. The sauces where all bland even the hummus.. Needed something extra maybe garlic? And the wedges where good but overpriced for the portion and I'm assuming they where frozen. What was also off putting is the minute they bring your food over the bill is thrown at you.. Felt as if we were rushed out because it got busy at the lunch hour. All in all I wasn't too blown away I might come back and try the vine leaves and baklava :) read more

I mean, it was ok. Maybe I expected more because of all of the enthusiastic reviews beforehand. Or maybe it just wasn't to my taste. I got a falafel salad, which was basically four falafels (which were very nice) on a bed of coleslaw made with garlic mayo. It was far too creamy for me, so wouldn't really be good for eating on it's own, but maybe for sharing in a tapas style. I also got grilled aubergine which was kind of mashed on a long plate with lots of spices and garlic. Again, it was nice, but very cold, as if it had been sitting in the fridge waiting to be eaten. Which brings me to my next point - I asked if I could substitute one thing for another and I was told I couldn't, as everything is already laid out on plates ready for serving. The lightning speed with which my order was fulfilled would have been testimant to that. Call me crazy but I just don't like the thoughts of eating something that's been pre-packed onto plates that morning and has been sitting in the fridge all day. OK there's nothing technically wrong with this, but it just puts me off. On the upside, the place is decorated nicely, the waitresses were polite (though not particularly friendly), and it's definitely excellent value. So if it is your thing, you will probably love it. I finally got to try this place. See, I come from the Middle East, and I get quite offended at what some shops try to sell as falafel. It is *supposed* to be crunchy, those meat balls you find in other places are not falafels at all. I had the lebanese falafel and the filo cheese rolls. The filos were lovely and the falafel sandwich was as close as it gets to a lebanese one. The tahini they have in it is delicious. The place's name is sweet, and the calligraphy on the wall is lovely. I just love this place. I can't wait to go back and try the stuffed falafels everyone keeps talking about. Best falafel I've had. The place is the perfect combination of fast food and restaurant. The prices are cheap but there's table service and everything is very clean, and you get proper cutlery. Stopped by here for some post-yoga grub = Sharing platter which included falafels, hummus, quinoa salad, cheese and spinach rolls. Falafels were good but salad was a bit too cold like it was taken straight out of the fridge. Fried cheese rolls were delish! The service was a bit left to be desired - there were quite a few tables uncleared resulting in a cluttered looking seating area and a longer than required time to get seated. I was really looking forward to trying the falafel here, but it just didn't live up to my expectations. The falafel wrap was on the small side, and didn't have that much flavor. Surprising since they are hand made! The mint lemonade was amazing, however, overpriced. I also got the cheese and spinach filo rolls, which came 4 to an order. Way too salty, and again, overpriced. The customer service wasn't great, no craic, and no real friendliness. If you love falafel but don't love the skeezy joints that tend to offer this delicacy, this is the place for you. Went here for lunch with a friend today; we both had the lunch special for 7.50 and we loved them! Not sure why some reviewers thought the falafel was too crunchy, this was puuurfect. Like contemplate-getting-a-second-round perfect. The cute seating area and nice plating of the food were added bonuses. Only constructive criticism would be to 1) serve the quinoa salad with a wedge of lemon, it needed a little more oomph and 2) make the red sauce a tad spicier (its much milder than I've had elsewhere). I absolute loved this place... I was taken there (for the first time) by my lovely partner for lunch on a normal working day (mid-week) as they have a great lunch special - Falafel plate (4 pieces), hummus w/ bread, salad (you can chose from the list!) and a drink for €7'5 - IT WAS MEGA-YUM! I chose the Fatoush Salad and my partner picked out the Moroccan Quinoa Salad and both are yummers and highly recommended!! I've been recommended to try out Umi for awhile but I never really checked it out properly until last week when I went for dinner with some colleagues and I have to admit--everything here is delicious. I also love how my meal had no meat at all and I was still very satisfied. I had a Lebanese Falafel, Tahini Salad, Filo Cheese rolls and I think I'm craving them already. The Baba ghanoush was probably the best I've ever tasted and I'm definitely coming back just for this! The staff are very friendly and the service was quick. Yum! We decided to try this place out since it seemed like it was the best option for Mediterranean food in the city center area. Oh my goodness - the falafels were AMAZING. I have tried and eaten many falafels in my lifetime but this place is fresh, delicious, and flavorful. I have yet to find a place in So Cal that comes close to what we ate in Dublin. It was so good that we ate there two nights in a row. Yum yum! The service was on point, as the waitresses were very friendly. Delicious falafel. I have tried both the Lebanese and the Palestinian falafels and they are both very tasty. The staff are friendly and the service is quick. I love the fact that the food is so tasty and also so healthy so its a double bonus. I have always taken my food away but they do have seating at the back with waiter service. The food comes quickly and the prices are very competitive. I think next time I will sit down and relax and enjoy my falafel there. read more

I'm definitely a fan of Umi! Their Palestinian wrap - NOM. They do a great lunch deal (eat in only) - a falafel wrap, nicely spiced fried potatoes and a drink for 7 euro. Some of the sides are huge. I had the Palestinian style falafel sandwich. I am a big fan of falafel and have had many, mainly from Tel Aviv, and the favor of this was a bit unlike any falafel sandwich I've had, but not in a bad way--it was really quite good! The difference was the garnishes they use. This restaurant cooks your falafel fresh, which is essential to great falafel. I must bring up one aspect of my experience. I was given my sandwich and I assumed that I could proceed to the seating area in the back of the store and eat. As I sat down I was told by an employee that I had purchased my food from the To Go menu and couldn't eat at a table. I hadn't realized that and left feeling a bit embarrassed. I might suggest to the management that as you greet customers that you ask of they would like to dine in or take away their order. read more

Stopped in at the restaurant down the street from our hotel after having a craving for middle eastern take out food. They have a large variety of middle eastern and Mediterranean food on their menu. I had the Palestinian Falafel and some dolmas (stuffed grape leaves) which were outstanding in flavor. The prices are very reasonable, I would not hesitate coming back here again. read more

One of our favorite places to eat in Dublin. The food is so fresh, so cheap, and so quick. My favorite thing to order is the fattoush salad for 5 euros, which you can compliment with some falafel if you are very hungry. Oh my goodness, mouth watering falafel. Literally the best I have probably had in my life! The ingredients were so fresh and hot. It is clear that this place produces quality food. I get takeaway lunch from here quite a bit. How can you go wrong with a delicious choice of falafel wrap for €5. The wrap is warmed, the falafel is crunchy on the outside and soft and tasty on the inside just as I think falafel should be. The accompaniments inside complement the sandwich and the pickles (which generally I'm not a fan of) are crunchy and fresh. The staff are very pleasant. Hard to beat for lunchtime falafel noms. A fiver for a takeaway falafel sandwich, Lebanese or Palestinian style with large generous falafels; crunchy with a lovely soft flavorful interior. The Palestinian style is my favorite with grilled aubergine and spicy tomato sauce. I'm salivating just thinking about it! Service is mostly good, have had some less friendly experiences but I've been in a lot since and it has improved since opening. Never been tempted by the salads as the falafel is my favourite and I'm a creature of habit but they look lovely. I have been frequenting Umi for months now and will probably continue to do so. It's a great place to grab a filling lunch and is excellent value for money. The last two times I have sat in for food the service has been very hasty and at times impolite. Having said that, the sandwiches always arrive at lightening speed which is great when you are starving. I think my relationship with Umi will continue with their sandwiches to go but the restaurant itself isn't my favourite place to hang. read more

Best falafel in Dublin. Super service, comfortable and quick. The food is fresh and very tasty. Uncomplicated smallish menu makes it easy to choose. Very good value also. All rounder. I eat here more than anywhere else in Dublin. It is basically a place to get good quality food in a pitstop. You wont spend an hour there, probably no more than 30 mins. That is what makes this place work. Before I catch a film in the IFI i go there knowing I will be in and out in no time. I have had Falafel in eight Middle Eastern countries and I can't think of a place that serves better falafel than Umi. Not only are the ingredients fresh and the highest quality but the pricing makes it the best value for money in all of Dublin. I highly recommend the Palestinian Falafel and the Moroccan Quinoa Salad. Their freshly squeezed juices are also out of this world. A couple of other reviewers mentioned this and I would have to agree- avoid the Falafel Salad, it's probably the one menu item that is geared towards Irish tastes. So unless you like overpowering garlic mayo; go with something else. Everything else on the menu is great. Oh and if you order to go- all menu items are 1 Euro less! read more
