I had a tooth where the crown came off probably ten+ years ago and after many attempts to glue it back in place, finally it came out and was out for probably seven or so years, during which it became infected periodically, but I did not have it extracted, as I was advised many times over the years. Fast forward, my wife and I moved to the Annapolis area a few years ago and we had to find all new doctors. Dr. Miele was recommended to my wife to do a complex procedure that should have been quite painful, but my wife told me that Dr. Miele performed magic, as her procedure was painless and perfect. Dr. Miele sets the bar to the top as an incredibly warm, compassionate and extremely professional doctor. I think the warm and compassionate traits are somewhat rare in the medical field, my wife and I are truly lucky to have found Dr. Miele. Now, to my procedure, magic! Yep, that's about all I can say. It was the second to the back, top tooth, close to my sinus and tricky to extract without any complications. Dr. Miele, again, demonstrated warmth and compassion, while being a top doctor in her field. My only issue was the heavy meds they prescribe as a matter of course. Another friend mentioned that too. I did not need the oxy pills and I never intended to take them, which I did not. The second time, I had gum grafting done. Again, during the surgery, Dr Di was very caring and professional. My follow up appointment was about six weeks later, and I still was having lots of discomfort and had another adjacent tooth that was numb. That was a very difficult appointment, not because of the doctor, but because of rough handling by the two assistants. I also have never regained normal feeling in the roof of my mouth (the donor tissue site), and it has now been over two years. I was told after the surgery it might take up to a year a year for the nerves to heal. I wish there had been more review of possible complications and negative potential outcomes before surgery. I don't recall seeing an informed consent form or discussing that with anyone on the team.

What a master Dr. Kaufman is.   Ably assisted by his very bright and cheerful associates, who explained everything to me as we went along, Dr. Kaufman removed the old cracked (but recalcitrant) tooth effectively and efficiently.   Then, he built up the area and later, after a rest of several months, implanted a metal post successfully.   Now, he has completed the job and readied the mouth for a new crown to be placed over that post. The pain has been minimum, but the results maximum. In addition, his office is on the side of the patients, operates with great ability, and actually argues for the rights of the patient with the insurance company. This is the state of  the art for periodontal work.   Any person with teeth should definitely go to Dr. Kaufman when it is time to schedule tooth repair or tooth replacement with an implant.  It is worth traveling many miles to obtain the services of Dr. Kaufman and his skilled associates.

There was consistent administrative friction around things that should have been simple, and nearly every visit came with a new recommendation for additional work. One example: I mentioned tooth sensitivity and was told it didn't qualify as a cavity, but a composite resin could be placed for about $450-$475, not covered by my plan. At a later visit, I was presented with another roughly $400 in charges. Over time, it felt less like care tailored to my needs and more like I was being tested on what I'd be willing to pay. If you go, I'd recommend asking for a clear explanation of why each procedure is necessary, what your plan covers, and getting a second opinion before agreeing to anything out of pocket.
