I've spent hours sourcing the best cappuccino in the Carroll Gardens / Boerum Hill / Cobble Hill / Park Slope neighborhoods. And this is it. I haven't tried them all, obviously -- too many coffee shops -- but what I have tried, and come back to, over and over, is the products of the amazing team at Posto. It's not just about the skillfully made drinks or the balance of flavors, the fresh, Italian-style coffee or the filled-to-order Italian donuts and Maritozzos (iykyk) -- it's the overall ambience. You come here to put down the screen and enjoy the moment. So often do we rush through our coffees, or even bring them to meetings, at the beck and call of the city's hustle. But at Posto the kind, talented, customer-first team asks you to slow down and escape all of that, to savor every sip of coffee in the classic Italian style. Walking in feels more like a poem than a cafe. Gone are the transactional, disingenuous "how are you's" and instead you get to discover all sorts of fun barista (and bar) creations, Tuscan products, and fresh pasta. The servers and owner are always read to provide a recommendation, and like in Italian cafes, they bring whatever treats and drinks you land on to you. (My favorite aperol spritz is also from Posto.) Outside, the peaceful garden hosts two large umbrellas. It's vibrant, as if you're in a neighbor's backyard and they are willing to share a colorful moment with you, birds chirping overhead. As I finished the last drop of my cappuccino this morning, I realized that forty-five minutes had passed, and every sip of coffee was just as good as the last. Thank you! read more

The things I usually look for in a coffee shop: a friendly neighborhood vibe, a nice place to work, a stellar brew, and perhaps a delectable snack to go with it. I don't feel like Un Posto hits the nail on the head for any of these. The menu is incredibly confusing--one part is on a chalk board, another is written under the countertop, another two are printed out next to the register and they all say different things without explanations of what any of the drinks even are. I spent at least 10 minutes letting other folks in front of me at the counter because I was paralyzed by choices I didn't understand, luckily the baristas were able to provide clarity on some of them. They have cocktails, coffee cocktails, coffee drinks, and several food menus. We came hungry, only to see the sandwich menu taken away because they were out (this was at 3 pm, and they close at 7). This is such a New York thing, but if you're selling cocktails and groceries until the evening, running out of mortadella sandwiches is not the same as when Radio Bakery sells out by noon... Maybe it's me but I'm not particularly looking to get a plate of prosciutt and burrata with my coffee (which is what they had left), and the sandwiches here are supposed to be amazing and were the main reason why we chose this place. We had come here to co-work, but saw that there were no laptops allowed, not even in a specific window, just period. I take issue with this because for some of us, coffee shops are vital spaces not to get sucked into the void of our screens but to write, share ideas, and work in the company of our support system. The coffee I got was an Italian iced coffee with no milk and almond syrup, pretty good but a smallish portion. My friend's latte was white, and tasted like foamy milk with just a hint of espresso... very odd. Usually that cool pretentious European vibe results in delicious food and drink, so I expected to be blown away, but it was just okay. Some of the higher-up staff are quite snippy, doesn't seem like the kind of place where if you're a regular people know your name and want to chat. The accusatory sign in the bathroom really says it all. The best part of this place is the gorgeous back patio, but it's harder to enjoy it when you've walked into a place that already makes you feel like you don't belong there, implying you're a toilet-clogging laptop addict who doesn't know any coffee lingo. I could see stopping in to pick up some fresh pasta and grabbing a cappuccino to go, but what's the fun in that? read more

Beautiful space and really charming! The atmosphere here is really relaxed and pretty much always crowded but rightfully so. They have great backyard space and a decent amount of seating inside as well. The staff is really friendly and make delicious coffee. I got a bombolone and a latte. Walking around Park Slope we were looking for a distinctive place to enjoy a light lunch and coffee. The reviews for Un Posto were enticing and so we stopped in. The energy is inviting and very relaxed. Ordering at the counter, we closed the Tina sandwich and ricotta sandwich. They were both excellent with bread that's just amazing. The coffee is absolutely fantastic. We enjoyed the bread so much , we bought another piece to eat. The pastries are also really good. We enjoyed tboth the Nuvola and pasticciotto. Un Posto Italiano has been on my list to visit for years. It's renowned in the neighborhood for its authentic housemade pastas, but there is also cafe seating throughout the store where you can order from a limited selection of sandwiches and pastries. I ordered a simple fresh mozzarella salad that came served with a light touch of olive oil and a tasteful garnish of greens. Wow amazing. I would own a cafe like this with a little space in the back, backyard in the summer, make fresh pasta and delicious grocery imported from Italy. This is a dream but the price is a little expensive. It is worth it thou. The space in the front make look small but they have a huge back room. We grab a table and 4 chairs luckily without any wait. Order some drinks when we got a table and just chat for a few hours. It's a place people just meet and afternoon coffee. The drinks are great but the sandwiches could be better. I am a little disappointed with it being cold and not much to taste for a $15 price tag. They can do better imo. I would come back again to hang and maybe skip the food. read more

Lovely place with lovely food. We got a honey cornetto, Prosciutto and cheese on focaccia sandwich, what I believe is a hazelnut bombolone (donut), and two lattes. The pastries and sandwiches are fresh and delicious. The lattes were decent. There is a cute little enclosed patio on the back along with indoor seating. The workers were friendly. This is my new favorite place in Brooklyn. This tiny side street shop is simultaneously: 1. As New York as anything can possibly be. It's a hole in the wall that does one thing (pasta), and does it better than I can imagine it being done anywhere else. 2. The antithesis of our high-speed, on-demand city. Once you walk in the door, you're no longer in the perpetual hurry that defines our lives. And if you are, you better slow down and relax, because you're killing my vibe, man. There's a board to the left of the counter that lists the pasta of the day. If you want spaghetto, Antonio will take out a pound of dough, and carefully roll it out, fold it up, roll it some more, and feed it through his pasta machine. There is no urgency, just a calm and deliberate display of skill. No wasted motions, just precision and practiced expertise. After the pasta has been floured and carefully placed into a box, Antonio will write specific instructions on the box. The spaghetto should be cooked that same night, for eighty seconds. Not a minute. Not a minute and a half. Eighty seconds. Pair it with the fresh jarred pesto in the mini fridge, or anything you'd like, and you will have happiness in a bowl. In this frantic city, it's soothing to watch this gentleman work. It will take a couple minutes longer than throwing a box of pasta into a grocery cart, and it will cost a few dollars more than you're used to paying, but the product is well worth the wait and the price. I think I need to stop going out for Italian and just buy pasta from here to cook at home instead. The raviolio and gnocchi sold are authentic and superb. Even the frozen ravioli sold here is superior to anyplace else I've found. Make Marcella Hazan's three-ingredient tomato sauce and you've got a true Italian meal (Google it, the recipe is simple and sumptuous.) **UPDATED REVIEW** Antonio the owner has been great, he truly cares about his craft. He uses diverse ingredients, and he's constantly looking for new, locally sourced ingredients so that's why you'll see many reviewers referring to how he runs out quickly as he's making limited quantities of certain items. As for the menu - I've tried the tagliatelle, chitarra, gnocchi, lobster ravioli, and sausage ravioli. In addition to that, I've pretty much tried all the pasta sauces. My all time favorite pasta from Antonio is definitely the sausage ravioli - a perfect blend of savory sausage flavor, which is not too heavy. It's a perfect flavor balance against the creamy, al dente, eggy wrap. Do try the pasta sauces - it's got no preservatives so you won't get that tangy or sour taste you get from supermarket sauces. IMPORTANT TIPS: Go earlier in the day, he tends to run out in the afternoon (pretty much out by the end of the day). The menu is rotating quite often so don't expect him to have your favorite type of pasta or a pasta you ate the week before. The box and presentation makes this ideal if you need a gift in a pinch. It's a unique gift too as you really can't find this kind of stuff around. Everything is fresh though so if you let it sit in the box too long without refrigeration the pasta may start sticking together. read more

THE fresh pasta place bordering Gowanus / Park Slope. He knows his stuff. He makes it on the spot sometimes, as towards the end of the day, he's frequently sold out of everything. I've gotten some pasta here before and let me tell you, this is the kind of pasta you want to eat the DAY you buy it. Does not taste as fresh and delish the second day. He also makes some really amazing sauces - pesto, a red sauce with olive oil / garlic / tomatoes / onions, and one with anchovies are the ones that I've seen. It's a bit small, and I think given the lack of fresh pasta places in the area, I can see this place exploding soon enough.
