Good spot to grab a quick bite, sometimes it can be quite busy and hard to grab a table but they have some outdoor tables, and on a rainy saturday I was able to find a seat inside. It can be a nice place to work or read when it's quieter. I got the cauliflower shawarma bowl, which was flavorful and juicy with delicious hummus and fluffy pita. Another hit from the Miss Ada team! Ordered ahead on a Saturday at 1:30 PM in hopes of saving some time (Thea had a huge line when I visited the weekend before), but that wasn't necessary here. It was pretty empty and we easily grabbed some seats. The chicken shawarma hummus bowl was amazing, and the whipped ricotta was perfect - identical to the one at Miss Ada as far as I could tell. Only after learning that its name is originally derived from the Arabic word "sabah" have I come to appreciate that the sabich is in fact an excellent choice for a breakfast sandwich, what with a boiled egg for protein and fried eggplant to add a bit of zest to the day. I had been wanting to come to Nili's for the longest time because I'm a big fan of Miss Ada (a restaurant with the same owners) but unfortunately Nili is a bit out of the way. The inside is somewhat small but there are a few tables inside, and a lot more seating out front. There was also a restroom inside as well. Once you order, they will call out your name when the food is ready. I got the BLT on a pita bread and it was delicious. The bacon is thick and the pita and sauce were both great! It is a little bit on the sweeter end because I believe they use a maple honey syrup of some sort. Another small complaint was that while the bacon slabs were incredible, there weren't any in the bottom half of my BLT - only lettuce and tomato. That said, for $10, it was a great sandwich and I definitely want to come back for other things. read more

Nili is a small cafe that has a little bit of everything, from coffee and parties to cans of beer and sandwiches. The coffee was pretty good, no complaints on that front. The space, however, is TINY and fills up quickly. If you're grabbing things to go, the wait can creep up a bit as a result of how small the operation is. If you're staying, like I did, know that you'll have to be flexible about seating given how limited the options are. Plus, the tables and floor were kinda dirty -- with the staff busy trying to keep up with orders, I doubt they had much time for cleaning (or anything else). Ordered the latte and beef shawarma bowl which came with hummus, pulled beef, pickled red onion and sliced pickles. Wouldn't really say it's a true shawarma dish but was delicious. I'll start by saying I cannot speak directly for the locations interior as I did not go into the establishment. I also had no interaction with staff. However I was told the interaction with staff was pleasant and he was spoken to and explained the different items. What I can speak on is the hummus. I was brought 3 different kinds, hummus, sweet potatoes hummus, and I forgot the 3rd.... May have been the labne and they were fantastic. The sweet potato was absolutely my favorite; slightly sweet with a smooth and creamy base. The unknown was good, kind of reminded me of a thick rich salad dressing...but I mean that in the best way. And the regular hummus, I could eat for days. The pita was also warm and pillowy soft. But I have literally been finding things to eat these with.... Veggies, bread, eggs, roasted veggies, sandwiches. Will return to try other items in the menu. read more

Came through this morning to show support on Nili's first day! The team was hustling but still took the time to explain everything to me and my partner. We received samples of the granola which is DELICIOUS, then ordered drinks and a croissant. My cortado was warm and rich, and the cold brew also impressed. The almond croissant was sweet and delicious, a fresh taste that brought back great memories. For coffee and a pastry, Nili nailed it. The menu is going to expand over the next couple of weeks, and I plan to update my review after trying more of the food offerings. Ordered a bacon egg and cheese sandwich--it is first of all huge--if the $9 price seems steep for a BEC, trust me, you'll get your money's worth. It's served in a pita, which I thought was interesting and is an absolutely stuffed pita--gotta be 3-4 eggs deep, with generous slabs of bacon. I'd say this is probably the perfect sandwich for a number of people out there--just not for me. The pita was a nice twist and I enjoyed the hints of spice in the eggs, but the cheese seemed absolutely non-existent and the bacon was sweetened--I think maple flavored? I realize this might be a plus for some, but just contrasted with the savory flavor I was craving, and was not what I had been hoping for. I'm trying to be more patient these days, but combined with a wait so long my coffee was a bit lukewarm to go with my sandwich, it just wasn't optimal. Still, I like the vibe of the place and the menu is very interesting with some very tasty sounding options that largely feature a middle eastern flair (which I love), so I would definitely be willing to give it another try. read more

I can't speak to their coffee yet, but I love their unique pastries! They've done an excellent job sourcing pastries that you don't often see in other coffee shops. My drool-worthy fave is the Feta Bureka. The pastry itself is the perfect consistency and flakiness. It's croissant like, but not at all dry, which is so common in America. As soon as I found out Miss Ada had a sister cafe, I changed my weekend plans to include stopping by for a Sunday bite-- well what I thought was going to be a bite but turned into a feast. Not mad about it in the least. ' Nili cafe has a small sunny interior with no real indoor seating but if you're lucky enough to grab they have quite a few tables outside. My friends split some pre-made mezze from the fridge (hummus and labneh), fresh pita, some orange wine and a medley of breakfast sandwiches. That labneh was so dreamy and creamy, I would find any excuse to scoop it on anything. I would actually just eat it straight with my fingers without utensils if I had to. But having their warm fluffy pita to dip into it was amazing. I also got to try their mushroom breakfast pita which was equally phenomenal; the portion was big and definitely could split one sandwich between two people in order to try more goodies. I can't wait to come back in attempts to enjoy their fresh pastries, but inevitably convince myself to stay for mezze and a bottle of wine. If you're not including Nili cafe in your weekend brunch or happy hour line-up, you're doing it wrong. I've only ordered delivery twice from here, so I can't speak to the service or the vibe of the store itself, but the food is incredible. I've gotten the hummus bowl with chicken shawarma and various dips (labneh, sweet potato hummus, and whipped ricotta), and everything is just amazing. The hummus and shawarma is so flavorful and goes so well with the pickles and the pickled radish/cabbage - it really melts in your mouth. The dips are all great texture and flavor wise; the labneh is tangy and creamy, the sweet potato hummus is delightfully sweet but not cloyingly so, and the whipped ricotta is some of the best I've had - the browned butter and fried sage bring a level of sweetness that balances the richness of the ricotta. Finally, the pita is so fluffy and chewy and the perfect vessel for scooping the dips and hummus. Can't wait to try more! read more

They have a nice location that gives them a pretty outdoor space and a small indoor area. However, on weekends they are attempting a half sit-down brunch, which seemed to lead to more issues and confusion than success. It seems like the normal cafe take-out with self-seating is the better model. I did like the live music set-up and the cute patio area. Very conveniently located next to the Carrol Street station, Nili has some good coffee and great hot food. Cappuccinos we're well done and they have a lot of less common milk options like macadamia, pistachio, etc. The mushroom, egg, and cheese pita sandwich is very good, and they stuff that pita full. The bacon and egg sandwich is also good, but because the bacon is lying on top of the egg (instead of broken up and mixed in), once it's gone there's just a lot of egg left. I really like Nili. The food is delicious (especially the bourekas) and the lattes are solid. It is my go-to for coffee amongst a sea of mediocre overpriced coffee shops on Smith street. Although the shop is adjacent to the train station, it is best to allow plenty of time when grabbing a morning coffee and snack. There is often a wait. They also need a bit more ventilation inside the shop. Very nice corner cafe. This is a very lively spot; with life chelo music on weekend days, excellent coffee and great pastry. People working here are super nice, easygoing and sweet. The decoration is simple but beautiful. This place makes arriving in the subway a joy. If only this spot could be inclusive with older non-privileged people it would just be perfect. Not sure if it's because of "peak hour" or if it's just the bean selection, but the espresso isn't hitting. I ordered a black americano today and as a barista myself I know if shots are left out too long they go flat. I've been here before where I have heard the coffee grinder go off the moment after I place my order, I don't think that happened today. While I am "understanding" of why a flat shot would be given, during a heavy rush, I don't think the store was overcrowded at this moment to warrant the use of an old shot. Especially in an ice americano, a black iced americano. "Possibly" acceptable for a latte where the milk over powers the drink. The color of the coffee was cloudy and not a vibrant red, like when a fresh shot lands. Considering how I've come here before on a whim and loved it enough to come back, I know it's the consistency that is the issue. For a five dollar americano, I expect the espresso to always be pulled fresh. Since that is what I'm trying to taste, the notes and flavor. read more
