Sushi may be a little overstatement. Fusion is a better description ;) Having local friends show you around is unbeatable. Asian food here is not the same as what we can get at home and one friend misses state-side sushi and Thai food terribly. But at the same time, we were advised that we had to try "Puertorrican sushi" while visiting. She wasn't kidding. It was a one-of-a-kind experience. First, our local friend advised that genuine Japanese sushi isn't popular here. All this beautiful seafood and Puertorricans aren't too keen on raw fish as it turns out. So their versions include skirt steak and plantains (!) The sushi rolls were filled with cream cheese. Pionono Roll - steak, avocado, maduro, queso crema (cream cheese.) Friends that tried it said it was good. If you can get any Puertorrican sushi with crisp plantain chips on top, I highly recommend it -- the crunch is really good! Gringo Roll - chicken tempura, avocado and queso crema. Surprisingly decent, if a little bland Shrimp dumplings - frozen har gow (like the kind you can get at Trader Joe's) Shrimp and crab egg rolls - don't forget that cream cheese ;) and remove the 'c' from the "crab" and replace with a 'k'! We had other rolls that tasted similar. There were two exceptions: Lobster Volcano Roll - (Note: it's not lobster) and has krab and more avocado. The whole roll is completely drenched in a powdered cheese sauce mix that was strangely homey and satisfying. A food that I'd make at home on a cold day when I felt like Spaghetti-O's or something. Cheese sauce and sushi. I know. I read the words now and they don't make sense to me either Paradise Roll - Smoked Salmon (Note: it's not smoked salmon) krab, cream cheese & avocado. People were deep in conversation when I took the first bite. I tried to chew and swallow it but couldn't summon the courage and I had to spit it out. The salmon was like eating ultra-sweet fish jam/jelly in both taste and consistency. Blargh. Needless to say, it wasn't finished. Although...one guy ate a few pieces...hmm The bottled beer selection covers beer from Beligium, to the PNW -- crazy. If you want to be a true Boricua, you'll have to try some Puertorrican sushi!

Kumo has a sexy inside but who's sitting inside while in PR and they have a cool outdoor rooftop.. Ahhh, not us!! It was pretty full but we were able to be seated immediately at a hightop table, even though we were 45min early. The food was awesome. We had the Branzino, beef skewers, BBQ salmon skewers, and the giant prawn skewers. I have to agree, she said, they can leave the damn sticks, just cook the food..lol The skewer sticks were a pain in the azz to pull out.. Jus sayin! Our server was about business and not overly friendly I'd say. There weren't many servers so she didn't have time for any unnecessary chatter.. Lol There were a few items missed that I'd normally see at Asian Fusion restaurants. For instance, Rock Shrimp and some form of sushi, should definitely be added to the menu. All and all, it was an outstanding experience and I'd definitely come back because the views can't be beat and the food is pretty damn good!

I admittedly had low expectations for Chinese food in PR, but the lo mein with chicken was delicious! They also had a few vegan options, like the imperial ginger w tofu (essentially sweet & sour tofu) that comes with a side of rice. My lo mein did not come with a side of rice but the portion size could be split among two people, and you can add a side of rice for a small up charge. The vibe is a black & red Asian decor, with a rap around bar and a few restaurant tables. There is also a walk-up boba bar attached that's available on the dining menu.

We tried the pan fried veggie dumplings, scallion pancake, hongkong noodles, imperial ginger tofu, black bean chicken, ube pudding and donut with condensed milk. Also 4 drinks - ranging from floral soju based, tropical gin based to fruity bourbon ones. Everything tasted alright - but don't go here expecting authentic flavors - just get ur trip fix ins for asian inspired food. Also I'd skip the imperial ginger and anything that has sweet spicy description as those dishes only lean toward sweet sugary sauce flavors. Service is good but they took really long to come out with the desserts and then the check.

Parking is a bit of a downside since there isn't much available, so I had to pay for parking. Once inside, though, everything moved incredibly fast. I got my food in less than 10 minutes, which is probably the fastest I've ever been served at a restaurant. It almost made me question how fresh it was, but after eating, I can say it was actually very good. I ordered the grilled white fish with lemon and egg fried rice with yum yum sauce on the side, plus shrimp tempura sushi to go. The yum yum sauce tasted like a mix of ketchup and mayonnaise, but when I mixed it with the fried rice, it was really, really good. The fish itself was tasty but needed more salt I ended up adding salt and squeezing lime over it to bring out the flavor. It seemed like it was only seasoned during marination and not finished properly. The salad wasn't anything special, but overall, for how quickly the food came out, the quality was impressive. Portions are generous, and the pricing matches what you get. We came around midnight and left close to 1 AM when they were closing. The place looked packed, but service was still quick and efficient. Our server was okay--nothing standout, but no issues either. Overall, I'd come back. Fast service, solid food, and a good late-night option.

The sushi rolls left a lot to be desired for - the one with the beef in it wasn't quite good. We only ate a piece of it. The crab Rangoons were decent - nothing to write home about. The service could have been better - even with such few people in the restaurant we were waiting many times for service, water, cheque etc.
